Speaker 1 (00:13):
As the spirit was
moving over the waters.
The spirit come over us, come, rest on us, come, rest on us.
As the spirit was moving overthe waters.
The spirit come over us, come, rest on us, come, rest on us.
(00:41):
So, calm down spirit when youmove.
You make my heart pound whenyou fill the room.
You're here and I know you'removing.
I'm here and I know you'll fillme.
Calm down Spirit when you move.
You make my heart pound whenyou fill the room.
(01:03):
You're here and I know you'removing.
I'm here and I know you'll fillme.
Speaker 2 (01:14):
Sorry, I just really
like that song and I was kind of
not struggling so much butstruggling, let's be honest I'm
struggling To think of somethingto talk about.
I don't know, whenever we getclose to like holidays and
things that are important, it'salways like I feel like I can't
figure out what to talk aboutand I don't know.
(01:37):
That song popped into my headand, yeah, just as this
beginning of the year comes overus, that's the feeling I want.
You know that I want God tocome, rest on us as we begin to
(01:57):
imagine what this new year canbring and begin to think about
what this new year could offer.
Sorry, I'm like really stuffedup and I feel clogged, like
thinking lies is a lie.
That's a horrible way todescribe it.
But then I realized two thingsthat I've read or heard in the
(02:24):
past day have been about thesame person and it had nothing
to do with being new years.
One was from a book and theother one was from a YouTube
video that randomly popped upand there's literally been tons
of this person offered or likethat's it been popping up on my
(02:45):
YouTube like recommended orwhatever you want to call it,
and I was like God, just as we,as we tend to do, god, whatever
video I see next, let me justwatch it and listen and hear
something from you.
And I'll be honest, I haven'tbeen watching any YouTube videos
like I think that in a while.
(03:07):
I was just like God, just youknow, do your thing.
And, lo and behold, it was thesame kind of message.
And what were these two things?
Talking about different formsof media, mind you, one in a
book and one in a video, butabout Lot's wife, and I guess.
I guess the thing is, I'm drawnto Luke 17, where Jesus felt
(03:38):
the need, when he's telling thedisciples about the coming of
the kingdom of God, the reminderof Lot's wife, and Luke 17,
verse 32 through 33.
Remember Lot's wife whoevertries to keep their life will
lose it, and whoever loses theirlife will preserve it.
She was so concerned with, youknow, keeping the life that she
(04:07):
had that she lost her life.
She was so concerned with, youknow, the pleasures and things
that she had enjoyed in thestuff that she was used to her I
don't know the word for it herusual, her habitual, her regular
(04:28):
.
She was comfortable, and notonly that, but she was
comfortable in sin.
But I think I've mentioned this, this idea that Lots wife could
have been put into any situationjust because she was in sin.
(04:49):
I mean, that is the sin, but wecan all be put into situations
where we have to remember lotswife.
It could have been a beautifulplace that she was living.
It could have been a terribleplace.
It could have been any kind ofplace.
The issue of sin is notnecessarily the fact that we are
(05:11):
leaving some disgusting, dirty,no good, rotten kind of place.
The issue of sin is notlistening or obeying God, doing
something that brings you ortakes you further away from God
or prevents you from movingforward with God.
And I guess, as the New Year iscoming up and creating New Year
resolutions and we are, you know, expecting all these things
that the New Year has to offer,we have to remember it is
(05:32):
sometimes the New Year and Godis going to bring us into
situations that take us out ofother opportunities or what we
considered an opportunity.
That move us out of somethingthat we believe was good for us,
that move us out of somethingthat we believe was made for us,
move us out of something thatwe may have prayed for or wished
for or begged for, move us outof something that we can't see
the purpose of.
(05:53):
But, god, why am I, you know, being taken out of that job?
That I think is amazing, likeGod.
Why am I, you know, losing thecar that I had forever?
Or God, why am I being forcedto move?
Why am I losing my house?
Why am I?
Why are you telling me to stoptalking to that friend?
(06:14):
Why are you telling me to stopgoing there?
I've gone to that churchforever.
You know I don't necessarilyknow the situation, because God
only knows the things that he'sgoing to have us move out of.
But we have to remember that notevery New Year's resolution,
not every year, is going tobring stuff that we're moving
into.
Sometimes it's going to bethings that we're moving out of.
Sometimes a positive isn'tnecessarily, you know, getting
(06:38):
something, but instead it couldbe ridding ourselves of
something, it could be movingaway from something that was
keeping us or preventing us fromhaving a better relationship
with God.
Or, in this case, god just hassomething else planned for us
and we need to get rid of thatfirst thing first before we move
into the second thing.
And it's these situations where, oh, but it's not bad, it's not
sinful, you know they're not.
You know dwelling in sexual sinand doing all these horrible
(07:01):
things like Sodom and Gomorrahwere.
But it's still sin when we'rebeing disobedient to God.
It's still sin when we're, youknow, not moving forward, and
it's not even necessarily sin,but we have talked about how
even if it's not necessarily sinlike, but God I'm praising and
worshiping like God, but I lovethat church.
I, you know, I give and I titheevery single day.
(07:22):
We're thinking about thatmaster who invited those people
to dinner that we talked about aweek or two ago and sorry, not
a week or two, three weeks, buta couple episodes ago is what I
mean?
An episode time where he wasupset and so he said you know
(07:42):
what?
You're not going to come todinner, I'm going to offer it to
someone else.
And so these situations wherewe're asking for new things and
God is like I'm going to giveyou new things, but in a lot of
these cases we're going to haveto give up something of the old
and we have their mind of selves.
Not everything is going to be ajoyous, momentous thing.
It is going to be like that, like that verse to be free.
Whoever tries to keep theirlife will lose it, and whoever
(08:05):
loses their life will preserveit.
I remember reading this thing onInstagram and I think I kept it
.
Let me.
I know I sent it to someone andI thought it was.
I thought it was such a.
Let me read it so it said thisisn't verse, but it's verse
(08:26):
inspired.
It talks about the fact, excuseme, talks about Mary, because a
lot of people tend to think ofMary as a favorite one and there
are favorite ones in the Biblethat had to lose something first
before they gain something, that went through sufferings
(08:48):
before they gain that blessingand that renewment, that
changing we focus so many times.
I'm pretty sure someone's heardit behold, the Lord is doing
new thing.
But while the Lord is making menew, he's making rivers in my
deserts.
But we have to sometimes, maybeall the times, move out of
(09:09):
something that we werepreviously seeing.
It's not going to happenbecause we're standing still,
because we're doing the exactsame thing.
We have to change, we have togrow.
Anyway, the verse says Mary wasa favored one but her husband
almost left her.
Mayvard was a favored one, butthe impossible happened to her
and many saw her as crazy.
Mary was a favored one and shedelivered her baby in a stable.
(09:31):
Mary was a favored one and hadto endure seeing her son be
persecuted in the worst way.
Being a favored one of the Lorddoesn't mean you'll have an
easy life full of many materialblessings.
Having favored with the Lord isbeing seen as faithful and
obedient to whatever the Lordcalls you to, regardless of what
it means for your worldlystatus, for your quote unquote
(09:52):
life, because you know that yourseat in heaven is secure and
that in itself is enough for you.
We don't need to chase favor,we need to choose faithfulness.
And then it shares a verse, luke1.45,.
And blessed is she who believedthat there would be a
fulfillment of what was spokento her from the Lord.
But, just like Mary, I bet sheremembered Lot's wife.
(10:17):
She remembered that whoevertries to keep their life will
lose it, and whoever loses theirlife will preserve it.
And so, with this upcoming newyear and all these new
resolutions and these thingsthat we're asking God for, we
have to keep in mind that, notjust with the things that we're
asking us, asking God for, butjust you know, being in a
(10:38):
relationship with God, he'sgoing to have us move out of
things.
And so, yeah, there's going tobe tons of claiming it Good
things that come this year, butthere are going to be some bad,
some quote unquote bad things, some things that we don't
necessarily see as preservingour life but in actuality are
giving us life.
That may be quote unquotetaking our life, but preserving
(11:02):
us spiritually, preserving us ina way that we right now, or
even in the future or short termfuture, cannot see it.
Just remember that as time isgoing on.
To be faithful, to be obedient,to respect God, to fear God
regardless of the situation, tonot just fear God when things
(11:22):
are good, to fear God regardless, to be faithful, not seeking
out favor or seeking outblessings.
And that's what it means to bea Christian.
I'm only having a goodrelationship with my parents, or
giving me everything I want, and saying yes, yes, yes to
everything I need.
Now, a good and healthyrelationship is having
boundaries and being respectfuland loving my parents,
(11:43):
regardless of whether or notthey're giving me things.
I'm not going to respect themonly because you know they
decided to give me money today.
I'm going to respect thembecause they're my parents.
And so same thing with God.
I'm going to respect himbecause he's my father.
I'm going to respect himbecause he is God.
I'm going to respect himregardless of the situation and
(12:06):
regardless of whether or not itmakes sense.
Anyways, as always, let's goahead and end with prayer.
Dear God, first off, thank youfor bringing us into another
year.
That in itself is something tothank you for, and I feel like
(12:28):
you're already giving us manyblessings with that in itself
For giving us the time to listento this message, for giving us
the time to wake up and to evenhave the opportunity to listen
to something like this or, in mycase, to record something like
this.
Lord, I thank you for theblessings that I know that you
(12:49):
have for us, whether we knowthat they're blessings yet, or
whether we find out theirblessings later, next day, next
week, in the future.
Lord, I just ask you to openour eyes.
Help us to see past what webelieve to be a blessing, past
(13:10):
our understanding and more intoyour understanding.
As things begin to fall upon us, as things begin to move into
our lives, as we begin to shift.
Help us to remember Lot's wife,to be respectful, to not try to
keep our life and end up losingeverything that we wanted and
everything that we needed.
(13:30):
Lord, I just pray that you helpus to step into a new place of
obedience and a new place offaithfulness and a new
understanding of what it meansto be faithful and obedient, to
help us continue to grow withyou and to bless us with a
better relationship with you, nomatter what direction that
takes, because ultimately thatis our goal.
(13:51):
I pray that you forgive us ofour sins.
Lead us not into temptation.
In the name of Jesus, amen.
Hi, thanks for listening tothis week's episode of HFC.
I'm not necessarily entirelysure of what direction this
(14:12):
podcast is going to go.
As I previously mentioned, classes may be beginning soon
and I'm not really sure howthat's going to affect me.
I'm not really sure if thatmeans I'm going to keep doing
podcasts or if I'm going tospend more time on my private
relationship with God.
I'm not really sure whetherthis will which way, because I'm
(14:32):
going to trust God that this isgoing to help me strengthen my
relationship with him, but I'mnot sure in which way that's
going to go.
So I just ask that you pray forme as I pray that he helps me
to understand what to do.
But either way, I wouldcontinue trying to do this.
I just don't know in what way, whether these things would
(14:53):
become shorter or whether I'donly be doing one once a month.
I would still want to do them.
I just, with my time being 8 up.
I don't want to feel like I'mjust pulling things out of a hat
.
I'd rather spend more timemeaningfully with my
(15:14):
relationship and then stilloffer something to you guys that
I discovered in my own timing, than trying to discover
something or hear God at thesame time while I'm recording.
Ultimately, god can do amazingthings and if he wants me to do
one every week still, then I'mgoing to trust that he's going
(15:36):
to give me insight andunderstanding in the time that I
have now between work andclasses and everything else.
Anyway, like I said, I pray thateverybody has a great New
Year's.
Yeah, other thing I think I'mgoing to start taking holidays
(15:58):
off just as a precaution.
I think it's just going to be agiven now.
That way, if there is somethingfor holidays, it's like a nice
surprise, because I find myselfgetting kind of overwhelmed but
I relax too much and I kind offorget everything because I'm
(16:21):
like, oh, time off and I justkind of sleep.
I spent time with God.
It's just like I kind of losetrack of the days.
Not going to lie.
Like I said, everything elsekind of up in the air right now.
It's just going to move infaith and obedience and it's
(16:42):
scary.
But yeah, have a great week anda great year and yeah.
Speaker 1 (16:52):
Bye.
