a while, but we got to change that. And then,
if you would like to support the show Patreon, dot com,
slash hopspeek News, we'd like to go into what we're
reading or watching. We talk about some news typically and
then we go into the Superman talk. However, this week
(01:12):
we do have a little bit news. Never mind, I
was gonna say we didn't got much news, but don't worry.
We feature a beer of the week, which this week
is Calusive Brewings. Happy Colors from there in Florida. Lauren's
one of her favorite breweries aside from Sidewords. She always
always loves this and I took it from her. I
guess on accident when we were in Ashville last week together,
which was a pretty fun time. But I chose it
(01:33):
just because the Happy Colors Man. It's got red, green, blue,
all that good stuff on the can. Can't wait to
talk about this, Lauren. What more say you about this
delicious beer?
Speaker 2 (01:41):
I'm drinking in too, so you know, obviously we like
to tie it to what we're talking about, so one
you could tie it. Actually, Matt, you mentioned the story
before we started recording. The first time Superman was on TV,
he was in black and white, and now he is
in very much so Happy Colors. Especially in this movie.
It was very colorful, very beautiful. However, Calusive Brewing is
based on the CALLUSA Native Americans, which were the obvious
(02:03):
original Americans, which is further proof that we are all
immigrants in this land except following yes and so here
today we are celebrating one of the most infamous immigrants
to America ever, as he grew up in Smallville, Kansas,
but he was born on the planet of Krypton.
Speaker 1 (02:20):
You know, it's rather hilarious that these people this is
I feel like that we're being tested. I feel like
they're being tested just to see how much they will
really actually follow along with in their simple brains. You know,
if oh, Superman's gone woke, Oh man, he's gone woke.
Yeah he's they're talking about immigration, it's brother sister the thing.
(02:42):
First and foremost. Superman debuted Action Comics nineteen thirty eight,
and he was fighting fascism then. And there's this thing
on TikTok where I was actually talking about this and
somebody was like, leave politics out of comics. I just
want to come to comics and get away from politics.
And so then I proceeded to be like, well, let's
go on a little teaching, because you have the X Men.
Doesn't get more political and comic books than that. Captain
America debut fighting Hitler. Fun fact in case you well,
(03:06):
a lot of.
Speaker 2 (03:06):
These characters were created as an escape from World War Two,
in which yeah, we're fighting Nazi.
Speaker 1 (03:13):
The seventies and eighties were a massive political revolution.
Speaker 3 (03:15):
And comic rights, and yeah, that's when I came out.
Speaker 1 (03:19):
You know, if if you sit there and like I
go to kind of comic books to get away from politics. Buddy,
I don't think you're really reading comic books, and neither
are any of these people that pretend to go on there, so.
Speaker 3 (03:31):
It has no actual lines.
Speaker 1 (03:33):
But even then I'm sure there's anyways anyways but hilarious. Yeah,
people just they are ridiculous. We're going to dive into
Superman soon, but let's talk about what we've been reading
or watching first. I have a laundry list, so Lauren,
why don't you go ahead and talk about what you
first have been reading.
Speaker 2 (03:50):
So last week I reviewed Sisterhood, which is a High
Street story that was actually, yeah, you you did the
video review on that one, and that was fantastic. So
this is starting a run. It's not a standalone and
if you've been following any of the Ghost Machine comics
from Hyde Street, then you will not be surprised at
how phenomenal the story is. It's two young girls who
went through some trauma when they were young. They're in
(04:11):
college and they're going through some more trauma. And you
never know when you're going to step onto High Street
and where some spooky stuff is going to happen. And
that's exactly what's going on. Very spooky, very gorgeous art.
Speaker 1 (04:21):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (04:23):
Yeah, it's a lot of fun. If you love any
sort of comic book, there's something in Ghost Machine for you.
Whether you want to read military comics, family comics, happy
go lucky comics, to escape the real world.
Speaker 3 (04:36):
We're dark, creepy, ash.
Speaker 2 (04:38):
Stuff like, there is literally something for everybody in Ghost Machine.
Other comic I did was Laura Kinney Wolverine. I've been
talking about this for a while. Last issue she had
broken from a true Wolverine fashion from some mind control stuff.
But the mind control stuff is over but still lingering
with her, and so this issue, not too much happened,
(04:58):
but it had. It connected a lot of dots and
came full circle. So it really like connected like the
first issue and some other issues as well as a
past run of Laura Kenney that I read that I
didn't love that run, but I like that they're still
recognizing it in this because I feel like when you
do that, you're fixing that run to make it better.
Speaker 3 (05:14):
If that makes sense.
Speaker 1 (05:15):
Yeah, no, that makes sense, but.
Speaker 2 (05:17):
No, Laura Kenny's been great and if anybody out there
is like really likes Wolverine comics, but they're sleeping on
this because oh she's younger, Oh she's a girl, whatever means,
like she is one hundred percent her father's daughter. She's
just a less emotionally constipated and she plays better with others,
which gives us some phenomenal team ups. And Wolverine does
have phenomenal team ups, but he's always reluctant to do them,
(05:38):
which she is little but not as much. And like
like Luke Cage showed up in this and it was like,
you know, he's still mayor, and that worked to her
benefit that she knows the mayor and so you know
she'll do anything for mutants. So I'm standing on this, Like,
if you like Wolverine comics, give this a chance, because
Laura Kenney, a lot of these younger mutans are the future.
Speaker 3 (05:55):
But she's so good and the art is so phenomenal
because they don't oversee sexualize her. I think, as it's
drawn by a woman, she's still awesome and sexy and
bad ass, but the sexy is not there for sex appeal.
The sexy is there to showcase how bad ass she is.
Speaker 1 (06:11):
Yeah, I really like that because you know, obviously there
is sometimes when you get women in comic books being drawn,
they are always barely wearing any clothes, or they're very
busty or like yeah, you said their ass is hanging
out or you know, drawn a certain way, right, And
so that's you don't have to do that if you're
making a really good character, which actually kind of leads
(06:33):
into one of the comics I did read this week
because she's a very badass character. It's Supergirl. Number three
is out from Sophie Campbell, and that's the DC all
In series, and now this one is very much not
as serious as the other ones. However, there is a
lot to take away from it, and I think it's
very relevant. It's more or less like not for me.
I think this is more geared to a younger crowd
(06:56):
or different crowd, right because Supergirl there's French, has a
big theme between Lena and the bad guy in this,
and then there's just a lot of that themes of
feeling that Loyos put back to your hometown and finding yourself,
and a lot of that is throughout this comic book,
and it's it's done very well. Sophy Campbell does everything,
(07:17):
so it's super super good. I highly recommend people check
that out, but she has a strong, badass character and
she's taken care of business and they're working together, and
it kind of is setting up in the next big,
big arc, big villain, and the bad guy doesn't understand
why everybody's still cheering for Supergirl in this, which I
thought was pretty interesting as well. But so you're right,
(07:37):
I really enjoy when they're kind of written that way.
But I did read some more comics Aquaman issue seven.
This is the penultimate episode if you episode issue if
you Will by Jeremy Adams, Rex Locus, Dave Sharp, Michael
Scheffler before he faces off against Dagan, and it's still phenomenal,
very well drawn. This is just colorful. There's so much
color in this it just throws itself off the page.
(08:01):
But this sets you up like Arthur is this badass. However,
there was a big twist in this issue that I
did not see coming, and so you go from you're ready,
you're gear in fight mode, You're yeah, Arthur, he deserves
and then you go to, oh, oh man like it.
It turns on a dime and there's a really heartbreaking
scene that really pulls out the heart strings and I
(08:22):
don't want to give it away for anybody who hasn't
read it yet, but it was very to It took
me off guard because, like I said, you go from
one extreme to the next and then you get mad
again by the end of it.
Speaker 2 (08:31):
So really like Jeremy Adam should have written more supernatural
episodes likes and yeah, just hearing that, like with the
twists and then the heart strings, it's supernatural ever comes back.
We need to get a petition going that Jeremy Adams
gets to write more episodes.
Speaker 1 (08:44):
He should. Honestly, he's so good at storytelling. And it's
evident you know, you still got the adventure aspect of
what this overall run is so far this art but
again the way he's weaving between emotions and gets you
fired up just to bring you down and then it
gets you fired up in a different way. Oh and
then just what Rex and Michael are doing with the artwork,
(09:06):
it's it's so good.
Speaker 3 (09:07):
So wet comics with oceans seem to kill the artwork.
It's just they really do not have it be beautiful,
like Martin when he did the Polar One that was
under phenomenal. Like name more comics are always so gorgeous, Like.
Speaker 1 (09:22):
I wonder if it's because they feel like they can
showcase more in the water because there is a lot
of different colors and things. I don't know. I'm very
curious to see why that is, you know, because it
could also be hard to draw fluidity in the water
and like their motions and their movements and this is
the use the coral.
Speaker 3 (09:37):
And everything and sea and I think it's awesome.
Speaker 2 (09:39):
It's like we've never explored the whole ocean, so they
have that mystery aspect. Oh yeah, sometimes play into that
and anyone who's ever snorkeled, I mean it's gorgeous.
Speaker 1 (09:47):
It's like it is the ocean's beautiful.
Speaker 4 (09:50):
Man.
Speaker 1 (09:51):
Stop killing the oceans, you know.
Speaker 2 (09:53):
Seriously, check your sunscreen. If it's got those nasty chemicals
thrown in the garbage, don't even use it.
Speaker 3 (09:57):
At the lead to the ocean they do.
Speaker 1 (10:02):
And you know, fertilizers are also what's causing a lot
of red tide, man, you know, so that's half Anyways,
I also read Batman.
Speaker 3 (10:11):
We've turned this since you a episode.
Speaker 1 (10:13):
What I know, preaching Batman Gotham by Gaslight a League
for Justice issue one. Now this is a continuation of
the Gotham by Gaslight series. However, this is a western.
It's by Andy Diggle and Andro Fernandez, Matt Hollingsworth, Simon Boland. Yes,
we are in the Western era. We get to see
a very creepy Martian Manhunter, a very badass wonder Woman.
(10:34):
You know, we have a well green Lantern shows up
in his cowboy boots. But Superman is in a Domino mask.
He's got cowboy boots on. He is out there, rough
and tough brother. But it's really fun. It is super good.
It's a Western style Justice League story is super fun.
And that's what this one is. It's you've got some
(10:54):
bad guys. Yeah. This this this particular kicked off the
Batman Gotham by Gaslight was about Batman and they were
finding the mystery of the Kryptonian basically, which led into this.
Now this is the old Western talent Smallville that Clark's
protecting he's the sheriff. But then obviously he becomes Superman
and you have Lex Luthor who sends Harley Quinn and
(11:16):
Hit his suicide squad out there after, you know, to
rob the town essentially, and that's when Superman gets in
and then stuff goes from there. But it's really funny.
A lot of the dialogue is really fun. I love
a good Western, and this is a good Western as
far as superheroes go. I really enjoyed this issue. And
aside from that Superman Treasury issue twenty five, we haven't
(11:36):
had a Treasury in DC comics for about ten years now.
So Dan Jurgen's Kate, Philippie Brett, breeding Dave Sharp, Bruno Verdondo.
It's eighty pages of Superman and it's a very cool
story showcasing. It's massive. It's like large, so it's supposed
to be big. It's a bigger issue. There's a lot
of really cool scenes of the Superman flying high, like
(11:58):
these really cool actions shots of Superman and they're essentially
battling Maxima and Bizarro or not Bizarro. It's a cyborg
Superman and so she's mad because Superman had a baby
with a human and she wanted Superman's babies, and so
she's come to Earth and the whole there's a really
beautiful shot of the whole Justice League crew together and
(12:20):
it's just fun. It's just a beautiful comic book in
homage to Superman. A really good story, and the last
comic that I read this week was Fantastic for issue
won by Ryan North Humberto Robin. So you read it, yes,
Victor of Elaziba, Travis Langnam, So why don't you tell
us a little b about this? So I've been rambling.
Speaker 2 (12:36):
So this one I actually screenshoted apart from the back
of the comic because this issue of Fantastic four it's
also issue number thirty four of the story that they
started in twenty twenty two, and it.
Speaker 3 (12:46):
Is part of the ISU.
Speaker 2 (12:47):
It's also it says, with our previous issue number one
and issue number seven to twenty seven of the story
that Jack Kirby and stan Lee actually started back in
nineteen sixty.
Speaker 1 (12:55):
So I'm glad you caught that because I put that
in my review that there was this end of the comic.
It wasn't actually issue one, it's a continuation. I thought
that was wicked cool.
Speaker 2 (13:04):
Well, especially because when it first started, like I did,
they put that at the end of the comic, so
you don't realize that. But when it started, you know,
there's all this underdoom going on, and if you've read it,
you know, not any Marvel comic in the last six months,
but a lot of them are under Doom, whether it's
X Factory, and so I'm just thinking we're playing on that,
and then Doom basically sends all four Fantastic Four members
(13:24):
to different timelines, but they have protocol for what they're
going to do if.
Speaker 1 (13:28):
That happened, Yeah, the Foreverstone.
Speaker 2 (13:30):
But when they get to one of the characters, she
can't ruined it because I said, she oh damn it.
Speaker 1 (13:38):
Yes, she's too far in the future that the earth
is now roasted and gone and the oceans are gone
behind it.
Speaker 2 (13:43):
Yeah, so I'm like, wow, what is she going to
do next? I'm thinking it's going to be solved in
this issue, and of course it's not. But how they
all go for the Forever Stone and where they all
get sent was really kind of cool.
Speaker 3 (13:52):
The artwork was beautiful. It was fun to get to
see them all in these very different times.
Speaker 1 (13:56):
Johnny Blaze at this handlebar stash.
Speaker 3 (13:59):
Well and Johnny too.
Speaker 2 (14:00):
I feel like he's so known for being a goofball
in like pop culture sense, that we never give him
credit for being intelligent, and honestly, he hangs around with
one of the smartest guys ever, so clearly he's picking
up stuff and yeah, figure it out and did was
very very clever.
Speaker 1 (14:16):
Yeah, you know that sequence. I don't want to really
spoil it because it's really well, that was the most
suspensible to me because you're reading it, you know he's
going to be fine. But while it's happening, I felt
my walls kind of closing in a little bit.
Speaker 3 (14:31):
Don't you know he's fine. But about a year ago,
we did all watch Johnny Storm violently get ripped to
pieces with his skin pulled off, so you never know, actually.
Speaker 1 (14:42):
You're I was thinking, I was like, wait a second.
In my head, initially because I'm thinking I would watch
you Fantastic four, I was thinking stranger things. I was like, Lauren,
that's about seven years ago at this point, because we
haven't had a stranger because I was thinking that, you know.
Speaker 4 (14:54):
But then I realized, oh, you know Chris Evans wolverin,
Oh my gosh, shout out to our Patreon Gibson because
we were watching the movie this weekend and Gibson off
Rip out of memory quoted that entire sequence of it.
Speaker 1 (15:11):
Yes, because at first I was so confused what was happening,
and he off Rip did it, and it was amazing. Dude,
it was hilarious. Yeah, it was so good. And but
this this comic was good. Yeah, he offered it like
dropped it out there. Yeah, oh yeah, and you can
quote me.
Speaker 3 (15:33):
It was.
Speaker 1 (15:33):
It was good. And now moving on, I did watch
two movies this week aside from Superman, Right, I did
watch Warfare, which is a twenty four film. It was
based on true story written by a guy their actual thing,
who were in combat. Right. It's something always funny about
American war movies because we go into these countries and
then we make a movie about them. But this movie
(15:55):
is done. It's very stacked cast, a couple of marvel
so the new Johnny Storm, isn't it? Adam Warlock, isn't it?
For example? Michael Gandolfini's in it, and it's got a
stack cast. The sound design is really really well done.
And there was a couple I got caught off guard.
And then you know, my first deployment was carrying flag
draped caskets and sending them back home to the States.
(16:19):
So while I was never out there actually doing what
these guys are doing, it still did invoke some memories
of things that I have done, and you know, it
played into that which I thought was really interesting. It's
a really well done movie, well acted. It's not very long,
hour and a half, you know, get in, get out.
So I thought that was a good movie. And then
Clown in a Cornfield. So this is a indie kind
of film, and so it's about a doctor and his daughter.
(16:43):
They moved to this very small town and they it's
very small town. They have us annual celebration essentially where
they celebrate clowns and this other stuff, and it's about
clowns killing the kids. The clowns are killing the kids,
that kind of thing. I can't talk really more without
giving away the twists and stuff in the movie. But
(17:04):
it was a fun hour and a half long slash,
funny movie.
Speaker 3 (17:09):
With clowns killing children.
Speaker 1 (17:11):
It Yes, it was an hour and a half long. Yes, honestly,
I could see it being It wasn't vulgar and it
wasn't anything so I could see Brielle probably enjoying this
movie just because it wasn't scary. It was just your
run of the mill, funny slasher type film and it
was very self aware and it had some cool sequences
(17:34):
in it, and the twist was pretty cool as well,
and the way it ended was funny as hell. And
I liked this movie. I did. It had a very
short theatrical run. It was really good. I enjoyed it.
So I watched those two movies. I have a couple
of hours I want to watch, and then of course
Superman that we're gonna get to here soon. So what
did you watch?
Speaker 2 (17:52):
The only thing I've actually watched them last week other
than Captain America because it was fourth of July and
Independence Day.
Speaker 1 (17:57):
And we watched iron Heart.
Speaker 3 (17:58):
Oh yes, and Ironheart that episode should have already dropped
where we've given all our feelings. Yes, so time cut.
Speaker 2 (18:05):
So speaking of Brielle anybody, Yeah, Brielle is my almost
thirteen year old who loves horror, and so she recommended
this movie on Netflix.
Speaker 3 (18:13):
I have to say it wasn't the best. It is
a time traveling horror movie, but it didn't really feel
very horror. So if you like Totally Killer, which was
fantastic where the girl goes back.
Speaker 1 (18:22):
To like this movie was made before Totally Killer, which
is hilarious. I was explaining this to Brielle.
Speaker 3 (18:27):
Oh that's where Briell got the info from.
Speaker 1 (18:29):
Then she was telling us that, oh yeah, see I
passed some knowledge on. She listens, Yeah, we were talking
about this. You've been replaced.
Speaker 3 (18:40):
It wasn't that good, so it.
Speaker 1 (18:43):
Was totally killer is way better. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (18:46):
So this girl, it's her sister died and basically she
exists because when her sister was murdered, parents then did
IVF and everything to have this girl. And she feels
like she's always lived in the shadow of her sister
who was murdered, which seems that's understandable. So she accidentally
time travels back to two thousand and three. And here's
one of my big issues. I was I turned twenty
(19:08):
in the That was.
Speaker 1 (19:09):
Tough seeing two thousand and three because I was having flashbacks.
Speaker 2 (19:12):
Outside of the music. Though the fashion choices were not accurate.
Speaker 1 (19:17):
There was no I would definitely agree.
Speaker 2 (19:19):
Breil kept asking me, She's like, did you guys actually
wear that? I'm like, no, no one wore that.
Speaker 3 (19:23):
And then I did like that.
Speaker 1 (19:24):
They had jeans codies.
Speaker 3 (19:26):
Well you were a boy, sure, but it was all
low rise jeans. We did wear belts over shirts. I
don't know why we did that. Us. I feel like,
are still around, Oh can't.
Speaker 2 (19:36):
I did say something to Brewn'm like, you literally stole
that tank top out of my closet like six months.
Speaker 1 (19:40):
Yeah, there was one of them. The big thing was
my ex girlfriend actually would always wear like a Hollister
Abercombie's half zip up and she had a Cammi underneath
that was and then she wore the ugs with you
know the pant. Yeah, oh yeah, I.
Speaker 2 (19:52):
Mean I still have that. Well, it's not in my
closet anymore, Braille has stolen it. But I still have
like those clothes from two thousand and three that she
has since stolen. But some of it was like excessive,
like no nobody wore rainbow things or whatever. And we
were still getting dress coded in two thousand and three.
But I guess the movies they never were anyways. I
spent many a day in internal suspension for my attire
(20:12):
so interesting this movie.
Speaker 3 (20:14):
One of the times was for flip flops, like come
on man.
Speaker 1 (20:18):
In Florida, South Florida.
Speaker 2 (20:20):
We weren't allowed to have strapless shoes and I had
dropped a rifle on my foot the day before. My
foot was all swollen, so I wore like slip ons
with very like like crazy.
Speaker 1 (20:30):
It was the wild West. In Massachusetts, there is no
they didn't care. We could wear it.
Speaker 2 (20:35):
Also, back then, they didn't sell shorts for girls that
weren't like really short or made you look like a grandma,
and we had to have fingertip length shorts.
Speaker 3 (20:43):
So I got sent to Eternal Sension for shorts one time.
Speaker 1 (20:45):
Harper has to do that in Virginia.
Speaker 3 (20:47):
Actually, that's ridiculous.
Speaker 1 (20:50):
Yeah, she's tall. The problem is we can't find shorts
and stuff long enough because she's so effing tall. So yeah,
my eight year old, Yeah, yeah, they do have that
here actually, which is funny.
Speaker 2 (21:02):
Anyways, this movie is a very good, light hearted horror movie.
If your kid wants to watch horror and you're concerned
about showing them something that's too graphic or to whatever,
this is a good introduction to horror.
Speaker 1 (21:13):
I feel like put on clown in a cornfield.
Speaker 3 (21:15):
I don't know, I haven't say that one.
Speaker 1 (21:18):
No, it was. It was definitely not as good as
Totally Killers. So let's go into some news now. Kevin
Smith is coming back to comic books with a Daredevil
Green Arrow crossover. It's part of the big Batman Deadpool
crossover that we're getting at the end of the year.
Speaker 3 (21:33):
He's written for both.
Speaker 1 (21:36):
He wrote, No, I think he's writing a fresh story,
a fresh little story. It's going to be fresh. I'm excited. So, yeah,
there's another big news. This is actually two big things.
Why don't you start us off here because I have
a follow up to this one.
Speaker 2 (21:53):
So Vought Rising is going to start filming next month,
according to Jensen Apples in this show, so this is
The Boys. It's a prequel for the Boys, and they
will be doing the Origin of Soldier Boy as well
as storm Front Storefront.
Speaker 3 (22:06):
I just added that auto correct Stormfront. But I'm glad
that you.
Speaker 2 (22:10):
Know Stormfront is a Nazi group, so I'm glad that
my iPad was like, probably didn't. We're going to change
that to Storefront and it's going to be a nineteen
fifties murder mystery. So obviously anything that's The Boys and
Jensen Apples I'm all for.
Speaker 1 (22:24):
Yeah, No, I agree. Now that means I would like
to let you know that the final season The Boys
has wrapped up filming. I saw a couple some of
the you know, Eric Krypti, for example, posted something on
social media being like, that's really weird. This is the
final day on set. You know this is all going
to get torn down. Blah blah blah. This is a
place that we've you know, spent a lot of time
(22:45):
and things. So the final season is done. It's yeah,
it's coming, it's a coming. And with that, we're right
on the doorstep of San Diego Comic Con. A sensitive
subject here for me, however, there's a lot of news
that is being withheld. So in the next couple of
weeks and of July, expect a lot of news. I'm
hoping a lot of good DC news. Marvel's not going
to be there, but DC will be at Hall H
(23:07):
and then I expect we might get some trailers of
some good stuff. And then who knows what other you know,
Universal might be doing something and things like that.
Speaker 3 (23:14):
So who knows news in New York with Agents of Shield.
Speaker 1 (23:18):
Oh you're holding onto that one, huh?
Speaker 3 (23:21):
I am, And it is.
Speaker 2 (23:22):
At first I was like delusional, but you know what
Deadpol and Wolverine happened, And it makes sense. Why you
all that, You got to you got Daisy, you got
Agent Coulson, all going to New York Comic Con together?
Speaker 1 (23:36):
Come on, Yeah, that's true, that's true.
Speaker 2 (23:38):
If I was going to be there, I would one
hundred percent go to whatever panel they were.
Speaker 3 (23:41):
Going to show up at.
Speaker 1 (23:42):
Now, you know, let's go on and take a quick
commercial break and come right back where we're going to
spoil the ship out of Superman Man b RB. We're back.
We're flying high up here. Look in the sky. It's
a bird, it's a plane. Nope, it's spoiler filled Superman Action.
So if you have not seen the film yet, you
(24:04):
can listen if you want. And uh, you know, we're
going to go into it. So Warren off, by the way,
I got my Crypto popcorn. This is what forty dollars
gets you. Of course it didn't, you know, I actually
go into it. Came with a giant tub like this
is a boog a tub of popcorn, and so I
(24:24):
didn't really much the popcorn, but I got they didn't
put the popcorn here, which I actually like. Uh, and
I can use it maybe, you know, as a penholder
at work if I really wanted to. It's got this thing.
But Crypto. I love this because Crypto is one of
my favorite parts of the film, and so it's adorable,
doesn't make noise or anything, but it's freaking sick and
I'm not going to spend eighty dollars on Glactus, So
at least I got something from the summer Blockbusters now
that said, what are your initial thoughts before the film?
Speaker 3 (24:49):
Before the film?
Speaker 1 (24:50):
Or I know that this was like your most anticipated,
so why don't you go ahead? How did you did it?
Speaker 2 (24:57):
Live in the Daredevil was my I most anticipated. This
movie surpassed my expectations. This was, hands down, to me,
the best DC movie I've ever seen. I don't want
to compare them to Henry Cavell because they are so
different in their portrayal, and Henry Cavill could have the
potential to be on my list, and this guy's a
(25:17):
little young, so putting that aside, he did a phenomenal job.
They The story was so good and so solid that
you sometimes forgot you were watching a superhero movie, because
I feel like a lot of times Superman is so
ingrained in like this is a comic book movie and
this is clearly fictional, and like we're just gonna have
these bad guys do this and do that, and like
I feel like characters were flushed. Everything made sense. I
(25:41):
think the quick catch up at the beginning was fantastic
because no one needs to see Uncle Ben die again.
Nobody needs to see Krypton explode again. Nobody needs to
see Martha Wayne's pearls go everywhere. James Gunn understands that
even the person who's never read a comic book in
their life now knows Krypton exploded, knows that Drell and
Laura sent It's just.
Speaker 1 (25:59):
Some things that we all are ingrained in pop culture that.
Speaker 3 (26:02):
We know, and I appreciate that.
Speaker 2 (26:03):
I feel like they're respecting the fact that we are
knowledgeable enough to just like catch us up real quick
and let's get to the story. And I also like
with Henry Cavill, he became Superman so fast, and it's like,
you know, people gave him shit because, oh he killed Zod,
he didn't have training. So this we're like jumping ahead,
so we know that he's done some training. We know
that he's you know, been practicing.
Speaker 1 (26:22):
At the part he was still relatively new. At the
same time, I feel like, you know, yes.
Speaker 2 (26:26):
Yeah, and he just got his ass kicked for the
first time, which is very humbling. But the lex was Okay,
I already said my initial thought, I'm gonna stop because
I have a lot more opinions.
Speaker 3 (26:34):
So what were your ina, I.
Speaker 1 (26:35):
You know I've this is my anticipator right here. The
trailer made me feel things going into it. We know
that I'm a DC guy through and through, but I've
never been a Superman guy. I felt things that a
superhero movie has not made me feel in some time,
and even to the point where Carrie turned to me
and she goes, this is better than anything. And I
(26:56):
don't want to make the same Marvel versus DC things.
My point being with this sentence is that this is
how you know it was good for general audiences. She
turns to me and says, this is better than any
Marvel movie I've seen lately, because she's very much I
were in the bubble. Carrie, my wife is very much
like a casual She's a casual superhero film fan. She
(27:17):
doesn't live and breathe and stuff like we do. And
she said, and this is big because she doesn't like
to go to the movie theaters. Twice she goes, I
want to go to the theater and see this again,
which is huge, and because that's not who she is,
she does not do that. It was special, man. I
thought it was super special and it lived up to
everything I wanted and it's there was a lot. So
(27:39):
what I really loved about this for the Amazon preview,
it made you feel you know special, you know, hey
there's like a little premiere. Yeah, it felt it.
Speaker 3 (27:48):
Gave Yes, nobody left the credits scene.
Speaker 2 (27:51):
I'm used to walking out after the end credit scene
and being like one of a handful of people, Like
this was everybody was still in there.
Speaker 1 (27:57):
The movie was buzzing too, like the movie theater. The
lobby was buzzing, and it was live. There was lines
for the popcorn. Rightea. It was nice because I don't remember,
you know, it hasn't felt like that in a movie
theater in a while. And I always talk about Dark
Knight being the last great movie experience I've had besides
maybe Endgame, but like a true midnight release. And you're right,
(28:18):
that's what it felt like. And it captured that essence
and yeah, it's fair. And then so going in there,
there's no there was no trailers either. You got into
the movie.
Speaker 2 (28:27):
We watched some weird cat in the hat trailer. You
didn't get that we got a cat in the hat trailer.
And then it was Superman and Friends saying like welcome
and joy and we're like what we don't have to
watch twenty minutes of trailers. And of course people were
coming in late because they assumed they did.
Speaker 1 (28:42):
Well that's we thought it was. So we went to
the brewery. We were with our friends Chris, his wife
Hannah and their their son, and we were at the
brewery like right around the corner, and I was like, hey, guys,
what if they don't play trailers because this is a special.
I had the weird in my mind. I'm like, why
don't we go? And you know, so we got there
at like six fifty or whatever. The showtime was seven,
(29:05):
and I'm glad we did because I walked in they
went to go set down. The line was long. Carry
surprised me with the crypto and as we walk in,
that's when the words are up on the screen. I
was like, oh shit, there were no trailers. Thank god,
because we were gonna get there fifteen minutes after and
we would have missed or the movie.
Speaker 2 (29:22):
Man.
Speaker 1 (29:22):
Yeah, it jumped right into it. I like that. And
then it jumps into the scene that we've been seeing.
He's on the snow, and that's after him getting his
ass beat and crypto comes. I like that because and
then that to me set up, Oh, we don't know
anything that's gonna happen in this movie, because that is
the scene that we've been seeing with the fortune, like
the first five minutes or so. There's a couple other
(29:44):
scenes that happened, but by and large, we didn't know
what was gonna happen. We hadn't seen anything in the trailer.
That's how movie trailer should also be, because any trailer
I've seen hasn't shown anything aside from the big moments
like Lex walking to the trailer. Well, that was pretty
much hash clips of that, and you know, we knew
Guy Gardner and stuff. So what let's start with some
(30:04):
things that maybe you didn't necessarily like, was there anything
about this film that you wish they did not do?
Speaker 3 (30:09):
I honestly can't think of anything that I have an
issue with. I really don't.
Speaker 1 (30:14):
I will say I was surprised when they actually Lex
shot that dude in the head.
Speaker 2 (30:20):
Oh my gosh, my jaw dropped. I feel like my
jaw was open for a few minutes. But that was
that made it a phenomenal scene though, because like that
guy was his name was Malik.
Speaker 1 (30:29):
I believe, yes, he.
Speaker 3 (30:32):
Was such a sweet guy.
Speaker 2 (30:33):
And like not to sound like Homelander, but like he's
the real hero. Like he even said to Superman, don't
tell him anything. I don't have any family, Like nobody's
gonna miss me. Like that was a hard scene and
it showed we're so used to Lex being almost comical
at times to where he's not that scary, and I
feel like that made this specific Lex just brutal.
Speaker 1 (30:55):
That yeah, well you're right, because we thought, oh, this
it's peachy. They're not going to go there, right, I didn't.
Speaker 3 (31:01):
Think a lot they really they did.
Speaker 1 (31:03):
They did that ship and there was a bitch twice
or something like that.
Speaker 5 (31:07):
You know.
Speaker 2 (31:07):
They just funny and the difference between PG and RS,
like they're they're like, well, this word.
Speaker 3 (31:11):
We can say, and they used it as much as
they could.
Speaker 1 (31:14):
And you know, but that scene really made my jaw
job too, because I I didn't think there would go
there and they didn't do it up close obviously and
like no blood or anything. But they zoomed out and
he shot him in the head and I was just like, damn, wow, okay,
I this is what we're doing and it happens like
half that was.
Speaker 2 (31:30):
The movie that was a pivotal moment though, because it
made the one guy whose name at first I was
Martian van Hunter, Like I didn't know who that was.
Speaker 1 (31:39):
I wasn't they No, it's it's Element.
Speaker 2 (31:42):
Well yeah I know that now, but like at first
when we first saw him and they were putting him
in the cage with him, it was But but I
don't think that he would like I think he realized,
like lex as no regard for human life, so why
would he have any regard for alien life? So how
was my son ever going to be safe? And I
feel like that was the moment where he was like,
(32:03):
I'm just going to risk it all because what do
I have to lose?
Speaker 1 (32:06):
Yes, the guy who actually played Metamorpho, otherwise known as
Element Man is Anthony Kerrigan plays him in the film,
and we know him. Yes, So he's a he's kind
of he's a bald dude, right, he's white, baald dude.
He was in Barry. He's the bald, creepy white guy
from Barry. Did you watch that show?
Speaker 3 (32:26):
He did not Dan.
Speaker 1 (32:28):
He was in Gotham as Victor Zazz.
Speaker 3 (32:30):
He was, Yes, Oh what do I do I know him?
I think I know him from Gotham.
Speaker 1 (32:35):
Yes, he was in Gotham's Victory as Yeah, yeah, him.
Speaker 2 (32:38):
In the previews for the show or for the movie.
I saw him in like the Red Carpet and I
was like, oh, I don't know who he is to him, dude,
because he plays a creepy mother effort in Gotham.
Speaker 4 (32:51):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (32:51):
I thought he was great. Yes, he played emotions.
Speaker 3 (32:55):
Wanted to hug him.
Speaker 1 (32:56):
You did, you did, be able the guy. He was
captured for one reason, and that was turned kryptonite and
you know that kind of stuff.
Speaker 2 (33:02):
Speaking of voices, you may recognize how hilarious is it
that K two s So was Gary Gary Robot number four?
Speaker 1 (33:12):
Yes, uh, what do you mean? I would be nice
to have a name, But what for is a name? Well,
not like Gary Academy. Yeah. I liked that, and okay,
so going into a lot of things that we liked.
The quick catchup. We talked about that already and it
didn't start, you know how it started. But I really
enjoyed also how small town his parents felt. They weren't
(33:33):
played by big actors. They weren't pretty, you know what
I'm saying.
Speaker 2 (33:37):
They were interesting at first because we're so used to
these days seeing attractive parents.
Speaker 1 (33:43):
Right, they would have cast some big name actors actresses.
Speaker 3 (33:47):
One guy's from Identity. He's been in a lot of stuff.
Speaker 1 (33:49):
The dad, I haven't seen him anything, so to.
Speaker 3 (33:51):
Me, he's a nobody identity. You should go on.
Speaker 1 (33:53):
He's in Superman and I'm calling him and nobody right. So,
you know, I really liked his scenes with Clark. You know,
it was very heartfelt because you normally would have thought
Martha Kent would have been the more emotional talker. That's
also true, yes, And you know, speaking of which, another
(34:16):
thing that they took from is the fact that, first
of all, I was not ready to see Bradley Cooper
as Joel at all. That that was not something.
Speaker 5 (34:25):
That I.
Speaker 1 (34:27):
Looked at. I like, I knew him and I was
looking and then I go, wait, Bradley, what in Raccoon? Yeah?
And it was cool And.
Speaker 3 (34:39):
Wasn't Michael he's.
Speaker 1 (34:41):
Another one of the robots. Yeah, Michael Rooker is another
one of the robots. Yes, And you know in this iteration,
of course, it's it's written from another comic where Superman's
parents did send him to basically rule Earth. And now
it's kind of open for interpretation whether or not Les
actually didn't doctor that. According to mister Terrific, he didn't
doctor that. I did. I don't think he did. There's
(35:01):
an iteration in comics that he actually was sent there
to do, you know that? And I thought that was
a cool twist, right because that was his favorite thing
to watch, was his quote unquote real parents from Krypton
while he's healing and stuff like that, and how soothing
that was. But then at the end of the movie
it was his childhood memories of everything with Jonathan and Martha,
and I thought that was freaking That was.
Speaker 2 (35:23):
The moment where I definitely lost it. But especially when
Jonathan had him doing Superman. Yes, anybody who's ever had
kids has one hundred percent laid on their back and
put their kid on their belly, of their kid on
their feet, had them put their hands out and yell Superman.
And so you see him do that with that kid. Oh,
I don't know what it was, man, but in that moment,
like I lost it. In that moment, that was incredibly,
(35:45):
incredibly sweet, and.
Speaker 3 (35:46):
It just goes to show you know, to quote supernatural.
Speaker 1 (35:51):
Food.
Speaker 3 (35:52):
And it don't start there either.
Speaker 1 (35:54):
I mean, but you're right, they were there were his parents,
and I'd liked how they basically got rich of you know,
Joel and them, and now we don't have to worry
about the stupid well whatever that we're used to always
seeing him go to the fortress Solitude and get advice
from a robotic AI Joy.
Speaker 2 (36:11):
Right, and it was always good advice in helping him.
So yeah, we've never seen that as far as I know,
on the screen. We've never seen Jorelle and Laura be
bad guys, and they.
Speaker 3 (36:19):
Were bad guys in this. She even tells him.
Speaker 2 (36:21):
Go take multiple wives and everything. But I think the
scene with Jonathan in Smallville when he looks at Clark
and he's like, what you wanted that second half of
that video to be? Makes me so proud of you.
And that was you know, that would prove Lark real
because Clark had a moment where.
Speaker 3 (36:38):
He thought like, am I evil? Because I came from evil?
And you know it was so.
Speaker 1 (36:43):
Inherently am I evil? Right? And he's like, no man,
And that also really ties into that. At the end
of the speech, right when him in Lex they're in
Lex Tower, there's a little machine that flies off right
their tower whatever, very pleasure and he's you're not human,
You're an alien. He goes Lex, that's where you're wrong, dude.
I have feelings. I love, I get angry. I put
(37:08):
one forward every day like you do. We're the same, dude,
We're I'm a human. All that makes me human. I
thought that was a really good moment and it spoke
to a broader audience, right if we look at all
of what's going on in the world right now. I
think that was more of one of those hey, we're
all human. Man, I'm no different than you. You may
think we are, but at the end of the day,
we were I'm human. Yeah, right, And I thought that
(37:31):
was a really good moment. I like that speech. There
was really a lot to take from that speech and
it was really really good and kind of as we
start to break down the characters, I want to start
with David Cordon's what how do you feel he did
as Clark Kent and Superman?
Speaker 3 (37:45):
So we only had like one scene with him as
Clark Kent.
Speaker 1 (37:47):
Because I know, I wish we had more.
Speaker 2 (37:51):
I think we will get more. But I mean, like
we saw him not as Superman, but when he was
with Lois, you know, obviously that's not Clark Kent.
Speaker 3 (37:58):
That's kal el So speak. But I did love that
they didn't have him wearing.
Speaker 2 (38:02):
His glasses or any of that bs because sometimes when
I see him doing it like a Superman and Lois,
but I think he's used to doing it for the kids, I'm.
Speaker 1 (38:09):
Like, Yeah, why you're wearing your glasses with your family?
Right who? Maybe for people to drop by, I don't know, to.
Speaker 3 (38:17):
Them leave them by the front door.
Speaker 1 (38:19):
You can hear somebody's coming to your house first of
all your Superman. I don't know.
Speaker 3 (38:24):
But I did like the one scene that we did get.
He was extra clumsy and whatnot.
Speaker 2 (38:29):
But I thought it was interesting they didn't question where
Clark was when it was going down. But then at
the very end when they're like, how long do you
think that's been going on with Lois and Superman, and
Jimmy Olsen's like, oh, I think like three months.
Speaker 3 (38:41):
So he knew immediately when it was. But whether they
never made it clear, like did they know he's Superman?
Speaker 1 (38:47):
Yeah, you know, I don't think they do, because obviously
there's that scene where nobody's worried about about the article,
right there, were you know, give him shit about the article,
but Clark at the same time as a sports writer
too write. He had that one. Actually, well, he did
interview himself. That was hilarious. Well, no, because I thought
(39:09):
they were talking about sports writing.
Speaker 2 (39:10):
But then again, I think.
Speaker 3 (39:14):
We use more adverbs or whatever.
Speaker 1 (39:16):
You're right, you're right because Clark talked about interviewing himself
and Lois is like, oh, you think about questions to
ask yourself? That sequence is amazing. I thought that was hilarious.
Lois was grilling at him on that and he was like,
what sometimes. And I loved the way that David corn
Sweat made his voice lower when he was Clark versus
(39:36):
higher voice. Yeah. Yeah, The way his voice inflections worked
in this movie when he was Superman and when he
wasn't was awesome. And now a big, big piece of
forgotten comic book lore here talking about the glasses Hipno
glasses are mentioned now, Yes, so I love because that
(39:59):
whole s Princess hilarious too, you know, the hypnoglasses they
make him and then guys, oh, so you know he's ken.
Speaker 3 (40:06):
He's just like, why does Clark tell everyone.
Speaker 1 (40:08):
What if I didn't know? And so Tom King is
actually the one that reminded James Gunn about this forgotten piece.
So Al Schroeder, who was a superfan of wrote in
back in nineteen seventy year, Yes, actually in nineteen seventy
He suggested that Superman used hyper hypnosis, which is a
power that he had, and it was actually used in
(40:29):
Action Comics thirty two and thirty three. So Martin Pasco
and Curtis Swan went and did the Master Mesmerizer of
Metropolis in Superman issued number three hundred and thirty three,
which hit stands the same month as Superman the film. Now,
in this story, kellel fights the Sealis, Batman Villa and Spellbinder,
(40:50):
who wore a terrible costume and used the powers of hypnosis.
Throughout the story, Superman realized that his glasses were more
than just glasses. He explains it because he had crafted
the lens of his glasses using a Kryptonian form of
plexiglass from the rocket that brought him to Earth. It
amplified his super hypnosis powers, which was another thing that
he had and was like never really mentioned. It was
(41:12):
again used in a couple issues of Action Comics. Now,
a Super super Boys story had already revealed that Clark
made these glasses as a teenager. So with that, DC
actually hoped by explaining this that the readers would stop
bringing up the glasses once and for all. However, they
pretty much never mentioned the hypno glasses ever again. So
(41:32):
now we're back to where people were essentially, how is
glasses Clark? And as Guy Gardner points out, their hypno glasses,
it's such a deep freaking cut man.
Speaker 2 (41:44):
But it makes so much more sense too, because yeah,
come on, even the voice is still especially in this
day and age where we can like pinpoint, Like I
knew that was a placeutic immediately as soon as he
started talking, I'm like, I know that voice.
Speaker 3 (41:57):
It was like, why wouldn't be.
Speaker 1 (41:57):
A recognition facial recognition, which you know if you don't
have your my phone with my glasses aren't on?
Speaker 3 (42:05):
Oh really, mine does both. You can program it to
do both.
Speaker 2 (42:09):
Once you get your leasick, you'll have to do that
like I did it with my glasses and without my
glass and.
Speaker 1 (42:13):
With some glass well, but still like you'd be able
to tell, especially with how up close and personal people
in Metropolis get to Superman. You know in this movie
they tell.
Speaker 3 (42:22):
All the social media and everything.
Speaker 2 (42:24):
It's like he made a comment, Oh my god, that
was hilarious or whatever. I think it was in a
comic book I was reading where he and you know,
cause you get to see their thoughts in the comics,
where he says like, I always try to not show
my face in these pictures, and I didn't turn away
quick enough, but it's like it's impossible to do that
these days. And you even saw in a movie when
he crashed everybody with the phones around him except Malik
who was getting him up. But that was I think
(42:46):
the scene with Lex when he like focused on Malik
and pulled up his facial recognition and did all that
and found out immediately.
Speaker 3 (42:51):
Who he was.
Speaker 2 (42:52):
And I was like, yeah, I think it's scary that
we were like getting to that and how he's like, well,
now I'm going to take him even though he didn't
do anything wrong and manipulate him.
Speaker 3 (43:02):
We kicked off with a.
Speaker 1 (43:03):
Little bit, but well, yeah, so let's go into Lex
Nicholas whole. What did you think about his portrayal, because honestly,
in this might be a hot takee I think he
might be the best Lex luthor I've seen on screen.
Speaker 3 (43:14):
Interesting. I like it so hard. I think he did
a great job.
Speaker 1 (43:19):
His motives were there. I thought the flop between anger,
I loved where he's knocking the cups down. You know,
he knocked that one last little puncils up his hubris
his brain over bron. I thought he was, you know,
smart as far as making the Hockey universe, Hocket universes
has a very different thought which we're going to get
to him, and I really liked it. And then the
(43:40):
twist where he basically started that war because he wanted
the government to let him kill Superman. He did that
whole thing not because he wanted to take land, but
because he wanted to kill Superman. And I thought that
was so clever because initially you're thinking, oh, another land
grab lex and out that wasn't the case.
Speaker 2 (44:01):
Which was cute because I feel like that was a
nod to the Christopher Reeve movies, because that was my
first thought because one of them was even named like
leg So I thought that was adorable. But can we
talk about you know, you realized Batman had the same
motivation and Batman versus Superman, and Snyder's Batman or Superman,
so just gooda.
Speaker 1 (44:18):
All is this are you coming around to Batman versus Superman.
Speaker 2 (44:22):
God No, No, I'm just saying how silly that is
that Batman was a hero and he's trying to do
what Lex Luther's trying to do in this when he's
a villain.
Speaker 1 (44:30):
Well, Batman didn't go through with it and cause a
multidimensional rift throughout the.
Speaker 2 (44:34):
Only because their moms are both named Martha. That's literally
the only.
Speaker 1 (44:39):
I just had a mom named Martha. He clearly has
mom issues. The way he treated his girlfriend, that's why
she was off with Jimmy Olsen.
Speaker 2 (44:44):
So kudostar Okay, but I did like that too. They
follow that with the Gene Hackman ones, where like he
had this pretty girlfriend that in the end sided with
Superman and was smarter than he gave her credit for.
Speaker 1 (44:58):
And it was also really dark too, by the way,
how he was keeping people in that pocket dimension, whether
they're political prisoners or ex girlfriends, that was dark.
Speaker 3 (45:06):
And he goes to some dark places him that nobody
else would because I mean, could you imagine a higher
up political leader paying off somebody he had slept with.
Speaker 1 (45:15):
What would never happen? Right?
Speaker 2 (45:18):
No shit, Okay, So Michael Rosenbaum was a great Lex,
but he was flex that got years to flesh out
his character, and I got attached to him and got
to see a good side of him. So this we
only saw evil Lex. So I will say movie wise,
I think he's my favorite Lex. Yes, but I don't
(45:38):
want to compare him to my U.
Speaker 1 (45:40):
I can give you that just because I never grew
up with Smallville. You didn't watch it all, so I
can absolutely two years. Okay, to be fair, I met
more of like you've watched it all and I haven't.
So you grew with that Lex because you've got a
lot of time with that Lex. I haven't. And I
thought this Lex was very akin to a lot of
the comic book iterations of Lex Luthor that we have seen,
and so I really liked I thought even the way
(46:01):
he talked. I loved the way he talked. You know,
it's little things like that. They're the way that they
manipulate their voices and articulate words and things like that
was really good. I thought all the Lex scoons were funny.
And then the way he used you know, Ultraman. Now
I do want to mention Ultraman because he cloned very smart.
He found a piece of Superman's hair then used to clone,
(46:23):
and then there's some keywords here. He's a dumber version.
So I know that first of all, Yeah, what a
dad or daddy I should say, he looked he looked like.
Speaker 3 (46:33):
He was about to slaughter a room full of yemlin.
Speaker 1 (46:35):
Well, so he gets sent into a black hole, but
he doesn't die, and now everybody's like, it's a black
hole he used over getting out of that. Guys, do
you think there's actually an alien Kryptonian flying around New
York City right now?
Speaker 4 (46:50):
No?
Speaker 1 (46:50):
I really think this is going to come to pay
off down the road in a whatever it may be.
That's that's gonna be Bizarro. I think that's going to
pay off. I think that's Bizarro. He's got sucked into
the black hole, and I think he's gonna find Bizarro world,
you know, and become a Bizarro Superman. I really think so,
because they talked about how dummy was he's very strong.
(47:11):
He never really talked all that he had all he
was a clone of Superman. I think that's Bizarro. That's
just my kind of theory.
Speaker 3 (47:17):
But I liked how that when you meet Bizarro and
Superman and.
Speaker 1 (47:21):
Lois can't wait, yes, speak of super and Lowis let's
talk about Jimmy Olsen real quick, because I liked just
real quick. I thought he was excellent. Skyler yeah, uh,
he did deserve more screen time, but what he did
with it was awesome. For example, Uh, he was so
annoyed by Lex's girlfriend, but then Lois is like, dude,
(47:43):
how do you do it? Man? She's hot? And then
it's like he clicked in his brain is hot, and
it's she was so clean genius.
Speaker 3 (47:50):
She's like, uh, your girlfriend's a genius.
Speaker 1 (47:53):
Yeah, yeah, she was an idiot because it turns out
that in the pictures was everything behind her and that
was clever as well. And I know I've seen some
rhetoric online from people I have seen it's, oh, they've
used his girlfriend to find Lex, and I was, well,
it makes sense. She was taking a lot of pictures
non stopping. He thought she was just some arm candy,
but it turns out underestimate.
Speaker 3 (48:13):
Yeah, a pretty girl.
Speaker 1 (48:14):
Man, yeah man, yeah, uh you know, so I liked him,
You're right, not enough screen time with him. I liked him.
And then Perry White, who I cannot remember the actor's
name in looking on IMDb. Obviously, the movie's not out yet,
so don't have the cast list yet, he's definitely familiar.
Oh yeah, I loved that Perry White. I love he
had the cigar they went up to the Misterterrific thing
that was sick. Uh speaking of mister Terrific, all right,
(48:36):
Eddie Cathigi. He gets redemption because you'll remember him from
the X Men First Class film where he uh yes.
Speaker 3 (48:49):
And beast like.
Speaker 2 (48:50):
Kudos again to Nicholas Hoult because I'm so as beast
being a good guy.
Speaker 1 (48:54):
But yeah, so I Mister Trific was probably my favorite
non Superman character. I thought he was awesome. He had
that blend of dry humor, but he's also a combat
expert withing mad genius. I loved how annoyed and bothered
he was by everything, and I loved that he helped
out Lois. I loved his tea spheres or tea spheres
and how Crypto he was so mad at Crypto for
(49:14):
biting down the tea spheres, and then he was a
badass when he was fighting off all of the the
lex sgoons out there at the camp. And I just
I loved mister Terrific, so I would watch the hell
out of a mister terrific film or show, whatever it
may be. I love love mister terrific. What did you
think about The Justice Gang and mister Trific? Because Guy
(49:36):
Gardner was hilarious and Nathan Fillion and then Isabelle Mehricod
who plays Hot Girl. I thought she was great too,
so real quick.
Speaker 2 (49:44):
Perry White was Wendell Pearce. He was in Thunderbolts as
that's right stuff duh, Oh my gosh, Chicago pet suits. Uh,
I think the Wire. I think I saw that on here.
Sure he's in a bunch of stuff, but if he
looked familiar in something recent, yeah, it was Thunderbolt that's why. Yes,
(50:04):
So the only mister Terrific I was familiar with was
Curtis from CW. And I didn't realize how underplayed he
was in aarroverse because they just showcase his intelligence and
then when he gets out into the field, he kind
of just still.
Speaker 3 (50:16):
Seems like a newbie.
Speaker 2 (50:17):
Granted expert, yeah he was, but I still feel like
they kind of made him like a second class superhero
in that, whereas in this they really showcased how amazing
his intelligence is and what all he can do with it.
In all of that, so I very much so enjoyed that.
Speaker 3 (50:35):
And I also nice garage store, though he hasn't had
the time you.
Speaker 1 (50:40):
Built all this and you candn't get a garage that
opens faster.
Speaker 3 (50:42):
I whispered to Tabby during that, I'm like, this is
like Deadpool with the zamboni.
Speaker 4 (50:47):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (50:50):
I really did enjoy his stuff, and I love that
he came back and he was one that reached out
to Lois and they instantly, and like the way he
protected Lois in that bubble. Yeah, it was such a
cool scene, especially because I feel like it really you know,
she's obviously used to throwing herself into danger, but she
got thrown.
Speaker 1 (51:05):
She was very much in the danger in this as well,
Like she puts herself out there on a really really
like Lois lane Wood.
Speaker 2 (51:12):
Yeah, but just seeing her in that scene, like looking around,
like you just see the shock and on her face,
and I feel like it was a pivotal moment realizing
like this is what dating Superman is like. But no,
I really liked his character, and I do like the
one in CW, So don't get me wrong, I just
feel like they kind of made him not as strong
as a character as they should have.
Speaker 3 (51:31):
Or that he had the potential to be in the show, right.
Speaker 1 (51:35):
I do agree, I do agree, I do.
Speaker 3 (51:40):
It was just amazing, man, Paul, you really didn't see much.
Speaker 1 (51:43):
I thought we no, but I thought I thought she
was still badass and she kind of had like that attitude.
I like Isabelle Merricot a lot. She was young, and
I love that she was against the Justice Gang, which
which is sick. Uh. You know, that was great.
Speaker 3 (51:59):
And then Lois calls out Guy Gardner's hair, which was fantastic.
Speaker 1 (52:04):
I do love that Los called out Guy Gardner's hair
because they do bring point to He's like, what did
you say? What did you say? That was amazing? And
three hundred and what twenty eight women happened to agree
or whatever he said. That was really what was.
Speaker 2 (52:15):
Funny is right before the movie started, when we sat down,
like the people next to us were talking about that.
Speaker 3 (52:19):
They're like, yeah, his hair is.
Speaker 2 (52:21):
Comic accurate, and all these people are complaining about it.
And I jumped right into the conversation.
Speaker 1 (52:25):
Oh, I would have too, like that was amazing, of
course it is. That's the best part.
Speaker 5 (52:28):
Man.
Speaker 3 (52:28):
It was.
Speaker 1 (52:29):
It was so good, and you know, I do love
the Justice Gang. I never thought we would get a
Hall of Justice in a movie this soon. So see, I'm.
Speaker 3 (52:38):
Still working on it. Like with the Crane, Yes, hall
of Justice so realistic.
Speaker 1 (52:43):
I mark, I got goosebumps. I was so excited to
see a Hall of Justice. Do you think they're going
to do Justice Society of America or build to a
Justice League because there were some easter eggs in here
that'll talk about in a second, because we did okay,
we did see a Gotham City sign. There was on
the highway when they're panting to the evacuations, there was
a sign for Gotham City. And so I'm wondering, like,
(53:05):
are we because they're working on a wonder Woman movie.
You know, Supergirl is finished filming, and then obviously we
got Metamorpho, Superman, Hawkgirl, Mister Trivic, and Guy Gardner right now.
So I'm wondering if it's going to be a JASA
or what the thing is.
Speaker 3 (53:23):
I feel like they'll do JSA just because we've seen
Justice League with Zack Snyder. We did see JSA in Stargirl.
Speaker 1 (53:32):
We did. We did see a JSA and Stargirl, which
I thought was cool.
Speaker 3 (53:35):
Yeah, and I feel like that show is very underrated.
Speaker 1 (53:39):
Okay, it really was. I will firmly agree with that.
Speaker 3 (53:42):
Even if they pulled some of those characters out or
I mean to bring Luke Wilson back, that'd be cool.
Speaker 2 (53:48):
Well, and Stargirl was so young, you could bring like
a grown up Stargirl to the situation suld Star Woman.
Speaker 1 (53:53):
I mean, yeah, I like the team that they started with.
I think it'd be cool to see a Jasa or
how they evolved. I'm excited to see how they evolve.
Speaker 2 (54:00):
Think the most, yes, I will say when this movie
was like ending, I'm like, I absolutely one hundred percent
need more of the Superman.
Speaker 3 (54:06):
I need more of this world. Like I was. Creature
Commandos was just like, didn't.
Speaker 1 (54:11):
I didn't like Creature Commandos and I don't know why.
Speaker 3 (54:16):
But I hated it at the same time.
Speaker 1 (54:18):
Which actually, okay, so good point here. This makes me think.
So remember the end where Rick Flagg is talking with
the other guy and the other guy's you know, many
humans run the world now.
Speaker 2 (54:29):
And you cannot ask behind your agent to play Rick
Flagg and expect us to trust him at all.
Speaker 5 (54:34):
Do you think he's going to be bringing in this
universe's suicide squad on account that we did get a
surprise Peacemaker, and so Peacemaker came you on the TV
awesome and then they said this movie ties into Peacemaker
season two.
Speaker 3 (54:51):
But I think this is I don't think this is
a peace Maker we know.
Speaker 1 (54:54):
I think it is because the pocket dimensions I was
thinking multiverse. I think pocket dimension are how our Peacemaker
comes from that world to hear, because that is our
This is going to be our Peacemaker that we know
in season two.
Speaker 2 (55:09):
But we're forgetting this Barry Allen and Aquaman, right, Like,
it's not Jason Momoa.
Speaker 1 (55:13):
Or as we Oh yeah, no, no, Jason Momoa is
cast as Lobo like that you announced that. So yeah no.
Speaker 2 (55:20):
But see like Superman at the end of Peacemaker was
just a silhouette. So in my head I thought maybe
they did it intentionally. So it was David Kornswitt.
Speaker 3 (55:27):
But if we're recasting everybody else, I feel like maybe
it's a difference.
Speaker 1 (55:30):
They said Peacemaker season two is our Peacemaker.
Speaker 2 (55:34):
Is this Rick Flagg Junior or seniors Senior? Okay, so
it is it the one from Creature Commandos?
Speaker 1 (55:40):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (55:40):
Okay, but I liked him in Creature Commandos, and I
didn't like him in this, and I feel like it's
because they cast it a hydra agent.
Speaker 1 (55:46):
That's it's the same voice actor in Creature Commandos. They're
having continuity. Yeah, they're doing continuity people that are in
the cartoon. Yeah, that that was the whole thing. Nobody
really got explained. But that that's a whole that is
so essentially in you know there they cast people certain
ways so that way they can cross into the cartoons.
Speaker 2 (56:10):
Okay, I don't know how I feel about that, and
I'm gonna have to wait to see how that that goes.
I assume he would bring in the suicide squad, but
I just that actor is gonna he looks Frank Grilla.
Speaker 1 (56:19):
I love Frank Grilla. He's crossbones right exactly.
Speaker 2 (56:22):
But he looks exactly the same as he did in
Winter Soldier, So like I'm getting the same vibes from him.
Speaker 1 (56:29):
I don't know.
Speaker 2 (56:29):
But but East looks like Lex Luthor, like these other
character look like mister Terrific, like Missus Masel looked like
Lois Lane and.
Speaker 1 (56:38):
She was amazing. We didn't talk enough about her either.
She was amazing.
Speaker 3 (56:41):
He looked like he was about to whisper hale hydro
into Alex's ear like.
Speaker 1 (56:45):
I made it. He is.
Speaker 3 (56:49):
Complaint.
Speaker 1 (56:50):
There you go is Rick Flegg?
Speaker 4 (56:52):
Oh?
Speaker 3 (56:53):
Then I really liked Rick Flagg Junior too. I wish
they hadn't killed her.
Speaker 1 (56:55):
I wish they had neither. I would love to have
seen him back. Now, so we get that surprise cameo
at the end, Supergirl cameo, how did you did you?
I liked that. It actually gave me hope for her
Supergirl film. I liked Millie Icock a cock. However you
say her last name, I'm not very good a pronunciation.
Speaker 3 (57:12):
There the Dragon.
Speaker 1 (57:14):
I knew her house to Dragon. That was like her
first big thing. And now she's a Supergirl. I love dude.
We we get to see her in the Supergirl outfit,
which is awesome, and then her and Crypto and yes,
she goes to plants with red suns because she can
drink and she's like to party. I thought that was funny.
Speaker 3 (57:30):
So he's fostering and Melissa Bennet or whatever. You say.
Speaker 2 (57:35):
No, she did a great but I think it's very
fun to get.
Speaker 1 (57:39):
Yea, yeah, yeah, I thought it was awesome. That made
me really excited. I didn't expect her. I had a
feeling and I was hoping because obviously her movie is
going to be coming out, and so I was hoping
they tied her in and they did and I'm so
pumped for a Supergirl film now can't wait. But all
in all, this movie is Yes.
Speaker 3 (58:00):
When he was saying the dog, I'm like, why aren't
you saying my dog?
Speaker 1 (58:03):
Yeah, because he was foster and well he even mentioned
it was more of a foster situation, but I was.
Speaker 3 (58:07):
Still I was confused. I was like, what do you
mean this is your dog? Why aren't you saying my dog?
Where's my dog? Where's there was the dog?
Speaker 1 (58:14):
I dude, I need to I'm gonna watch this movie
again because there's so much I want to say. Oh, Jitters.
They mentioned Jitters, which is the coffee shop from Flash.
So there's another Easter Bully Burger. Yep, I'm going to
have an article.
Speaker 2 (58:29):
DC businesses are exactly what they are, Like, you're going
to get Jitters, You're going to get.
Speaker 1 (58:35):
I do enjoy that. And then continuity wise, that's like
the one thing that's constant throughout these universes is the
names of their fast food and coffee shops.
Speaker 3 (58:43):
Doesn't change none is Maxwell Lord.
Speaker 1 (58:46):
We did, we did, and he's the one that kind
of did the Jays uh Justice Gang as well, which
I thought was awesome. So what would you give this movie? Then?
What was your rating for this film?
Speaker 2 (58:55):
Holy snikes, I'm going to give this a nine point
five about of ten.
Speaker 1 (59:00):
That's okay, that's what I gave it as well. Just
I don't know why I felt if I gave it
a ten, I'd be a homer.
Speaker 3 (59:07):
And you know, nothing's perfect, you know, I.
Speaker 1 (59:10):
Yeah, I guess I think my liud plaint is this
movie ended. You know, it ended for another two more hours. Yes,
you know it was good. You got they were involved
like they were super sold on it. I need to
see it again. Yeah, nine point five out of ten
for me, that's what we got here. It's my favorite
(59:31):
movie the year so far. I will say that it
has beat Ciners for my favorite movie the year so far.
Very different films. I want you to see Sinners because
I would be very.
Speaker 3 (59:41):
Jos on Hbox, we're gonna watch it this Yep.
Speaker 1 (59:44):
We're going to talk about it. So that said, let
us know your thoughts on Superman. That concludes, we're going
to transition to Fantastic Four starting next week, and get
ready for that film, because we're gonna be rolling in
that film too. Man. We're blessed as nerds and moviegoers
