Rapper NBA YoungBoy, whose real name is Kentrell Desean Gaulden, has pleaded guilty to charges related to his involvement in a large-scale prescription drug fraud ring operating out of his home in Utah. On November 18, 2024, Gaulden appeared in a Cache County, Utah courtroom and pleaded guilty to two counts of third-degree felony identity fraud, two counts of third-degree felony forgery, and six counts of misdemeanor unlawful pharmacy conduct. He entered 'no contest' pleas to the remaining charges, which were part of the original 46 charges against him[2][3][4].
Gaulden was accused of running an illegal scheme where he would pose as a doctor, using real people's names and birthdates to call in prescription drugs that his associates would then pick up from area pharmacies. Authorities alleged that he even tried to disguise his voice to obtain the medications when prescriptions were flagged[3][4].
As part of the plea deal, the four felony charges were reduced to Class A misdemeanors, and Gaulden was ordered to pay a $25,000 fine, which he paid on the same day. The judge, Spencer Walsh, agreed to suspend a prison sentence in Utah due to Gaulden's prior agreement to serve over two years in federal prison and 60 months of probation in a related federal case in another jurisdiction[2][3][4].
Gaulden is also facing a federal gun case in Louisiana and had previously been convicted in a weapons case. He was under house arrest in Utah following his arrest in April 2024. The judge encouraged Gaulden to take advantage of his future opportunities and reach his full potential after completing his federal prison time[2][3][4].
