(00:24):
Good evening everybody and welcome to a another podcast.
It's law house cricket clubs house cast.
The weather's changed quite considerably over the last four
or five days. But you know what Lorraine, the
results haven't another good quality wins at weekend.
As much as I think it's a bit ofa faff recording once every
week, I've been persuaded that we should do it and rightly so.

(00:48):
Not just by the the fellow Co host but down at the club on
Sunday night. Some of the spectators, old and
new were saying I'm much to really enjoy, which we really
appreciate and we'll continue todo them certainly whilst the the
sun's shining on the cricket. So we've got a great show
tonight. We've got the low house draw at
the end of it which I know everyone will be all excited

(01:10):
for. Let's go.
Sharon Stansfield's number comesout so it winds Paul Stansfield
up. Got some great guests on.
We've got Paddy Martin on. I don't think he's DIY in this
this evening for his sister and I think he's he's hiding his
face at the moment. So we'll.
Hiya Paddy. How are you doing Paddy?

(01:31):
Paddy, where are you? Joe?
Where's your brother? He's 9 minutes fast.
He's on his way. On his way for an 8:00 meeting
at 9 minutes past. Yeah, outrageous, outrageous.
So the guest again, he's late, but last time he didn't even
make it because he was repairingsome lot.
But we can chat to him about that.
But we've got some other great characters on that we can talk

(01:52):
to. I'll come back to you in a
minute, Joe. Gary, it's so good to see you at
weekend. You came up, you had a good
catch up on Saturday with a lot of people down at the club and I
believe Chris Scott was was downthere chatting through to you.
You get back all right, Gary, and how you're doing.
Yeah, thanks Skip. Yeah, long journey, but good
with a cup winner and 12 points in bag to see as I see me on my

(02:16):
way. Yeah, not bad.
Thanks. Brilliant.
Brilliant. How was Scott there?
Brief chat. One of our other lorries members
seem to be occupying his attention for about an hour,
gradually getting more and more held down his neck.
So I had a little chat with him.Yeah, but he looked on good
form. Good, good.

(02:36):
He's for those people who are young or old and keep
forgetting, like me. Chris Scott was an absolute
outstanding stalwart for us, theLaw House, but also for
Lancashire came to Cricket Club, came down, oh Cracker, you know,
80s played in the 90s and was a really good stalwart but just

(02:56):
felt it wasn't comfortable coming back down the club.
And we've all chatted to him andtalked him into it and he's been
down from I think three times inthe last fortnight and had a
really good time with his wife Debbie.
So keep it going, Scotty, keep coming down and.
His pictures Our greatest wiki keeper dress.
Yes, he was. He wasn't.
You know, so and he just saw that he picked when I saw him a

(03:18):
few weeks ago. So it was really nice to be able
to be able to tell him that. So we should.
Oh yeah, brilliant. Did you tell him it was on the
podcast and he could listen or? No, I didn't tell him.
That I didn't tell him that. But we can send it.
We can send it. Yeah, we can and we'll send him
this one because if can you remember the the story, I think
it was just towards the end of COVID, what happened when we had

(03:39):
Scotty on talking about his career.
Was it? What?
When? Does anyone else?
Does anyone else remember someone forgot to press record
for the 1st 40 minutes? Anyway we recovered it.
I think we managed to get back. So great to see old and new
coming down the club. I'll go around.

(04:01):
I think our guest has arrived. I've just seen him wandering in
the the background of Joe's Little Room.
But I'm going to wait till the end so I can get you on and we
can talk about the the the cricket with you.
Paddy Gav, great to have a couple of pints with you on
Sunday. How you doing?
You OK? Yeah, really good.
Thank you, Jess. Yeah, yeah, really good.

(04:22):
Thanks. Yeah, we're good to catch up.
See you then watching the seconds.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. A couple of couple of pounds
with Tony. Yeah, yeah.
Good. So get on Saturday, a couple of
couple of pounds. We get it.
Yeah, a good weekend. Yeah, it seemed it.
It's, you know, the seconds are doing a great job and we'll come
on to their scores shortly. I thought you want to come down

(04:44):
the turf with me and Dutch and and Gary Gav.
We we're not bothered about coming down.
No, I thought they'd have plentyof support so I thought I'd go
around and watch the twos and put some money down bar.
Please stop watching the secondsand just get clapping your hands
together. Something like that, yeah.
Brilliant good lad, Good lad Gav.

(05:06):
Great a great Sunday. We had some good wonders around
the pitch, little Teddy with us,so we're no boozing and nice to
to have Frankie walking around with us.
Did you have a good Sunday? Late Sunday because I thought
you might have come back for a pint but you obviously went off
and had some. Went for celebrated with
courages. Oh, good luck.
Take away or sit in. Take away, take away from the

(05:29):
aroma. Yeah, very good.
Oh, that's good. That's.
Good. What did you order, Joe?
What did you have? Loads chicken tikka Jo fres.
I had Joe yes yeah. Very good.
Very good, yes. Did he get away with court gate?
No. OK, for another time maybe?

(05:49):
No, no, I think I can talk about.
I got. I got done twice.
You got away with it. Because I didn't really realise,
you know, he got such a great time as a little one and come
off, so I knew it was ready. His front of his hair was stuck
up because it's built some Diet Coke on it and some Yeah.
And. And his mum said, what have you

(06:11):
done then? And I said, oh, I just got some
coke, some coke. He's never had coke in his life.
The letter I still says to me, Ilove coke.
It's all right, I only went to sleep at 3 morning.
It's fine. I wonder why if we're going to
our speed on that scooter afterwards.
I know. I think he got away with the one

(06:31):
where Fran took him in the bushes and they were trying to
get on his scooter and tripped up and got muddled point all his
sleeve. I think he got away with that
one. Yeah.
A great day it was. It was a bit bizarre.
And before I come on to the Cricketers, due to the weather,
how cold were you? Oh.
I was freezing really cold and Ihad layers on as well, but it
was, it was proper cold, yeah. Yeah, I think the wind, the way

(06:53):
the wind were blowing, it was difficult and it were good
because it was getting rid of the clouds with the odd rain
break, but it was it was chilly and and windy.
It's not great for sport, any sport, football or cricket.
But I think we should ask the players.
I think we should go into both Paddy and Joe just to talk about
their thoughts on the game. I'll come to you first Paddy.

(07:14):
You know, the build up to it, there wasn't a lot watching at
all, which was a bit of surprise, but was was that to do
with the weather And I was the players on the build up to that
after a great win on Saturday. I think it probably was the
weather, Jazz, there was rain atthe start, weren't there for
Ellie, miserable day. But we've had a great win the

(07:34):
day before so we were really confident, looking forward to
it. We always enjoy playing against
Burnley. We're always competitive games.
There's always something, something different usually
happens in those games, so it's always something to look forward
to. Yeah.
I mean, there was the forecast wasn't great and I think I
think, you know, credit to to both sides and to the umpires

(07:57):
for getting as many overs in as they did.
But obviously delayed start, which meant was it 46 overs I
think? Yeah, 46.
Yeah. So it's a delayed start.
You're losing 4 overs and then there's a little bit of a delay,
a rain break, sorry. Within the law Race innings.
Ben and Johnny look to start offwell again.

(08:19):
Johnny look particularly in goodknit.
I always ask Joe Martin this, but he always gives me a blank
answer of I'm not really sure. The pitch look all right, Paddy.
It was a used pitch, OK, or I would think the toss was fairly
important because you don't really want to chase in on a
used pitch, especially against Burnley without bowling attacks.

(08:40):
It's a strong bowling attack. Yeah.
It looked all right. Yeah, just a bit tired maybe.
So it's going to turn and get a bit slower later on.
It. Didn't do anything, did it?
It wasn't, you know, there wasn't any.
Mischievous in it. It just turned a lot really.
And luckily Ben won the toss forthe I think it was a second time

(09:01):
this year. So it's been a bit of a useless
tosser this year. I wouldn't say that about you
skipper, but I'll leave that with him to discuss with you
later. And like Track, we're a bit
better than I feel. Yeah, that was a bit a bit
strange. What can you Joe Martin, can
you, I know you're behind the stump, so you don't see a great
deal of it. Can you comment on what it was
like there to to play on it? You looked back in our day, it

(09:22):
used to be like a Bowling Green. On on the outfield it was, I'd
say it was patchy. I'd say it was a mix.
It would probably down to the very good weather that we've
had. They've had a bit of football on
their cars obviously park on there as well.
So probably just don't have a chance to to grow.
But there was a real mix of of grass length, which which comes

(09:45):
my favourite topic, chess of gardening.
So the, you know, so it was a, it was an interesting, Yeah,
interesting. So we've got like that.
That's what I was getting out the square look good.
You know, the rain's difficult to, to manage it after such a,
you know, a long dry period to get bits of rain on a pitch.
It can sometimes cause issues, but thankfully it didn't.

(10:05):
So, you know, credit to the great stuff there.
Similar position jazz, you know,I think a lot of because there's
been a obviously a lack of water, you know, cooked in it
and then and then then it just will grow unevenly.
I think so. So this little bit of wet
weather, we do lots of grounds, the world are good.

(10:26):
Yeah, with that. There were a lot of shots.
Didn't get to binary though. I mean up to up to brunch,
roadside in particular. I bet we lost.
Bet we lost 1520 runs for standings on for.
Yeah, I think that's fair. Yeah, I'd.
Agree with it and we're probablya little bit spoiled because of

(10:46):
playing at home the last couple of weeks and at Middleton.
It's like an ice rink on the outfield where it's just, you
know, getting away and and I don't I don't know if you're
attacked it from them. It maybe you know, they left the
grass a little bit longer, whether that's a reason for it.
But the Ben and Johnny looked indecent enough.
Nick. I just thought Johnny looked set
really early on. He looked like he was in a zone,

(11:08):
looked like he was ready, you know, to bat and and and back
sensibly, but you'll be as positive as he always did.
They put 33 on It's Harry Snowden into their opening bowl
of the lad. That's where's he come from,
Windermere. Settle.
Oh yeah, that's it, yeah, Settleand he's, you know, sharpish

(11:30):
enough and he gets he gets Bennett caught behind Henry
comes in. I thought Henry was switched on
as well. I'm not, he's always switched
on, but I just thought he seemedto get his soul set and, you
know, putting on a tech with, you know, with Johnny look great
and it settled Johnny down if Johnny needed it.
Was there any change in direction with Henry going out

(11:53):
there and the way he plays Paddy?
Or was it just the, you know, the normal tactics that you've
got and your normal strategies? Yeah, just a normal strategy.
I think they they've got a very strong bowling attack at their
best suit and Snowden's a reallygood opening bowler.
Fergus, you're not, you're not going to get many bad balls off.

(12:14):
And then obviously Barrett and hockey to back that up as well.
So I don't think it's going to be a game where you can fly
away, especially on a huge wicket.
And like I said, the outfield a little bit slower than normal.
So I think it was a fairly comfortable start from us
really. Yeah, and I did think, I don't
know if we do chill with Frankie, we're going around and

(12:35):
I'm I'm considering, I think I can't see only what, what, what
over the pro came in, but there's what, 15 overs to go,
something like that. And and Henry's still batting
very well. Johnny's really starting to up
the ante now. And where we might have thought
182 was a decent score, I think that moved to 200 maybe.

(12:55):
And certainly Dan got in then you know, we, we could get 200
plus. Henry got out, got out, Dan came
in, didn't look in any trouble at all.
Working around quite well or chatting to Ben after the game.
He's he's still struggling with this virus into I believe Joe or
Paddy. Is it affecting his game?

(13:16):
I don't. Think it's I don't think it's
affecting his game because he's still performing extremely well.
You know, he's been batting welland contributing as as ever in
the in the field and and with all players.
I think it's, I think it's more,you know, when you get a cold or
like a really bad cough, it kindof really, it's a really, really

(13:38):
bad cough that's on his chest. I think it just sort of stops
you in your tracks every now andagain and then you can't
breathe. And so I think it sometimes
takes a little bit of time for him to get that back to, to how
he how he wants to. But it's not, it's not affecting
his performance, which is testament to him because it
can't be. It can't be easy, I don't think.

(14:00):
Without a doubt. And when I say, you know, it
affected him, I think I would mean him more because he he
didn't come down the club afterwards and have a few pints
with us, which he always does. I think he had to get home and
get a get a night nurse and get himself tucked up.
Gary, you've obviously you've watched us from afar.
We're walking around the ground,We're having some great
conversations about how the crickets going when Henry's out

(14:25):
and then Dan's out 3035 runs later.
What were your thoughts then with Tom?
Sorry, with Tom's coming and andJohn is starting to go for it.
Did you feel that we're going toget to 200 at that stage?
How did you see the game going? Well, I think we chatted, I
think you mentioned 250 at one point, which I think maybe I
don't know whether pair of us forgot we'd lost 4 overs.

(14:47):
But so in in reality, we weren'tfar off off that I thought, I
mean, I'm so glad to see Charlie, but Henry sorry, back
at three. I know they docked him down the
order for the Cup match, but I will glad to see him at #3 And,
and I know there's an approach to how the side want to play and

(15:08):
want to bat and express themselves.
And I'm glad Henry sort of like just doing his thing at the
moment and not rushing into something that might be a bit
early or uncomfortable for him. Just let him keep his confidence
and get those 30s and 40s. And we've been up and then it
LED that platform. I just thought when, when
Charlie and and Tom came in and, and, and we're able then to

(15:31):
launch it right, knowing that there's still some, some
talented batting to come after that, you know, with like 3 dime
or something. We, we 10 overs to go, 5012
overs to go. It was just a, it was just a
perfect launching pad really. Now I know you can't architect
it like that every week and you don't want to say Oh well it

(15:52):
don't matter if I get out because so and so will get the
runs or the next person will getthe runs.
But I just thought it it was built really, really well.
Was that it in his all round? I mean, Johnny was imperious,
wasn't he? Looked, he looked, he looked
brilliant. It's a shame he didn't get, he
didn't get that tonne because itwas much deserved.
But yeah, I think I think on that front, that score was was,

(16:16):
you know, a good effort on that track against a decent bowling
side. I think they put a couple of
catches down, which didn't help them.
They look to sort of lose the bond point.
But yeah, I think it was. It was a great effort.
Yeah, and you've exactly said what what I was thinking and I'm
sure we discussed it because there's, you know, let's be I'm

(16:38):
not being hyper critical, but Johnny Whitehead's really going
well. There is probably I don't know
if any of the players can help out 10 overs left when he's out
and he's saved 98 overs left, you know, so Johnny's he's out
the pros gone 15 rooms before that and there's only 8 overs
left. And I'm not being hyper critical
here, but we've got Tom Walker and Charlie Gansler, who the

(17:02):
season's still young, you know, the great players and had some
good knocks. But the last couple of weeks,
you know, it's it's been a little bit spot for them as
getting their runs. And but I was so impressed with
the what ages there are that they continued.
They believed in the self. They battered very sensibly,
playing all sorts of weird shotsthat I don't even know the names

(17:23):
of them. Never mind.
I've tried to play them in the past and end up, you know,
putting on that that that partnership there of 66, you
know, in really no time without, without going daft.
Did the players, Joe or Paddy, feel that those two felt a
little bit of pressure because of, you know, the last couple of
of innings where they've not really clicked, I don't think.

(17:46):
I don't think so. I think they're both obviously
both young, young cricketers learning, learning their games.
But they are confident in what they're trying to, in what
they're trying to do. You know where their strengths
are, you know whether whether they're going to where their
boundary option is as well. Yeah.
And, and the kind of atmosphere in the team I think enables them

(18:08):
to go and kind of express themselves as well.
So with eight overs left, we're in a really good position.
There were obviously batters that could still come in and and
accelerate as well, but it's really great to see those two,
those two young lads be able to.Yeah.
And that gives Ben a lot of a lot of options because he's got

(18:30):
faith in them because he's, you know, he's keeping them there
together to let them bat. And like you said, Gary,
there's, you know, with Hawkey and you know, and Topsy's shown
some great form this year. You know, he's he's one of the
top scorers in, in Burnley. And then you know, yourself and
Joe and yeah, and then Charlie, that can can do what he can do.
So a great performance. 231 again.

(18:53):
It's windy. You should probably say how good
Johnny was this weekend. Now he was batting.
I know we've mentioned it a couple of times, but he was, he
was extremely composed all the way through.
I don't think he gave a chance and, and battered extremely
well. And I and I walked around with
him with with him afterwards. And the way that we're talking

(19:14):
about how we, you know, grafted now while we were back, how well
he battered a little bit disappointed at his hundred, but
on another day that's probably worth 100 and 4000 and 50, I
think. But it was fantastic.
We're really brilliant to watch and and great to come in and
score, score those runs and set a platform for us to to to get
to 2:30. So yeah.

(19:36):
Yeah, he's, you know, he's, he'ssuch a great player and he's so
positive. You know what you're getting off
him and it's like I said, he probably is with a 14150 because
the way the conditions were again our bowling.
I just think it's, you know, anyopposition they're going to come
out about whether the pro top amateurs, they know that they're

(19:56):
up against it with Paddy, you know, bowling so accurately,
bowling his dart, flighting it up, went over and round the
wicket. And then, you know, the other
end, you've got Tom Walker bowling some bombs.
Were they coming through again? Joe Martin, the wrist in your
gloves. Yeah, definitely it was.
I think the wicket was probably a little bit too pissed I'd say.

(20:20):
But when, when Tom got everything right and then it
landed in the right place, it really, really shot through and
on. The Liam Bedford wicket was an
example of that, which was it was fast and I was still too
close to be honest, to be honestwith you.
There was a chance of a dumb best moment to go to go straight

(20:42):
through. But but yeah, no, he bowled.
He bowled sharp and bowled well. And it's good that, you know,
we're not going to change it. Other people might plan, you
know, this is what they've got. This is going to Volvo, you
know, game on. Let's you know, let's see if you
can manage it. Paddy you, you look to to get

(21:03):
yourself into a rhythm really early, which you always do and
going round or over the wicket. I used to struggle coming round
the wicket. You know, when you try to do it,
you've obviously got it off to an art.
Did you do you? Is there anything set in your
plan before you come out regarding the batters or or the
pitch? Or is it just a case of you know
where you're landing it, get theright field, and you're

(21:25):
confident? No, I'm fairly confident in what
would. I mean, obviously Saturday was
slightly different. They had a lot of left handers,
so that's a little bit easier around the wicket.
Whereas Sunday they've got they've got a couple of Tom
took, got Kazim out, Kazim out early and then there's just Matt
Roberts who got out early as well.
So yeah, he was just fairly comfortable for me doing that

(21:46):
now. Really, Jess?
And that's great to hear You cansee that you know, that you're
using the confidence, the skippers really comfortable with
the way that goes, and then the fielders get the extra
confidence and and the team become vocal.
I don't really know what else I can say about the Burley
innings. It just seemed, you know,
Bedford's such a great player. You know, the three down for 26

(22:09):
the pros in Mccluskey's come in who you know you can cause some
damage but didn't look comfortable at all.
And then a bizarre game. You know, I know they went off
for a rain really late when theywere 8 down and they clearly
lost the game by then. You know, I think they're 8085
for eight gone off for rain. Do you think there was there was

(22:32):
potentially there they were playing for some sort of a draw
or the point system going back to to Corry's year when when you
used to get point for not being all like Joe?
Joe Martin. Yeah, Joe Martin.
Thank you. I, I just think that we actually
bowled extremely well. We've built a lot of pressure.

(22:53):
There weren't many 4 balls. We didn't bowl particularly
loose. Paddy and Paddy and Tom hockey
bowled extremely well again. And obviously Dan came on, came
on at the end and, and, and mocked up.
I think it was just a case of everything clicking really well.
Didn't really give them a chanceto, to, you know, to kind of

(23:16):
free their arms and, and any looseners really.
So just that pressure, I think really, really made the
difference, actually didn't let them get away.
Yeah, I mean, all you've done there, Joe, is talk about our
bowlers. I'm thinking more of the way
they rotated the strike and you know, and the way that I'm not
saying the wickets were given away, but it just seemed
inevitable there was going to bewicked in the next two or three

(23:37):
hours because there was no, thatdidn't appear to be a game
planner that I mean, I mean, youwalked around quite a bit and
talked about it. It was, it was a bizarre
innings. What were your observations?
You skirting around hockey's innings ear, Jess?
Do you want me to sort of crystallise that a bit for you?
Well. Well, you can do.
I mean, he, you know, we know that he's, you know, he, he, he,

(23:58):
he can't, you know, he can't getyour 100 in 40 balls or
anything. But he, he wasn't playing the
sweep shot. He plays a reverse sweep very
well. And the sweet shot, I don't
think he played one. But then the also the other
batters just seemed resigned to it.
So yeah, just your observations Dukes, whether it's about, OK,
it was a lovely lad or, or aboutany of the other players.

(24:19):
Well, I did. I did hear a quote, actually.
I did hear that Tom Lawson was critical about hockey for not
rotating the strike, saying he was getting off strike too early
in the over and leaving the amateurs exposed at the other
end. I actually heard him say that.
So there may be something in that.
Yeah. I don't think it's a great look,
to be honest. I know if he was defending

(24:40):
himself, he'd probably say, well, I was never going to win
the game from there and he probably wasn't once, you know,
they'd lost a couple of early wickets.
But to kind of shut up shop in the manner that he did and
finished 30 not out or 34 not out in such a comprehensive
defeat, I wouldn't want to see that from my professional.
I'd much rather him die, you know, chance in his arm rather

(25:01):
than rather than sitting on his back at the other end.
But look, each to their own. I did think there are a few
weird things in the game. Actually I, I, there were a few
bits that I just couldn't, couldn't get my head round.
First of all, the lads have saidit was a huge pitch and it was,
it was turning well. Hockey only bowled 7 overs in
the first innings. Tom Lawson coming on having not
bowled in the entire innings to ball the last two overs even

(25:24):
though Ferguson snored and had overs left.
I thought that was weird, Mccluskey's spell, he's only
ball 3 overs all season before in the league before bowling
that spelling ball first change.I thought that was weird.
There was obviously a bit of aggro between our skipper and
and Baz AS as Ben was coming offthe pitch which carried on at
half time. Again, I was earwigging that and

(25:45):
it was quite an entertaining chat and AS seemed to rile Ben
up just as we were coming out tocoming out to field, which I
don't know if if Burnley's openers would have been that
grateful about that, to be honest, Because if you watch the
way that our lads sort of get right behind Ben, when Ben's
sort of, you know, got his back up a little bit, I think the the

(26:07):
the Burnley openers probably paid a bit of a price for that.
So again, I I thought that was abit a bit of a strange one.
I just, I don't know, it's just a weird, a strange performance
from them. They they normally so
competitive, so well polished. They're obviously double league
champions, but they they just, Idon't know, I'm gonna guess that
not all is well there. I think.
I think there's something not quite not quite right with that

(26:29):
lot at the moment. Yeah, I mean the the great
point, Duke, you know, I know very, very valid.
You know, you know, we can add to that where you know, the
number 8, the number 9 were batting and you know, and facing
5 balls of of two or three overs.
I'll come to you first, Joe Martin, just to see your views.
Have you any inside information that that not?

(26:51):
So it's not all well in that camp.
No no no, I had a good chat withgood chat with them afterwards,
they seemed fine. Hockey is a good mate man as
well, so and obviously very experienced cricketer,
experienced pro. He's won, obviously won the
league a few Times Now and you know, is a is a very, very good,

(27:14):
very, very good player. Yeah, but you know, I mean, can
you explain? Because he he can't play sweep
shots for fun. You know, we've got an offering
bowling that does bowl the hardball.
And I'd like to think hockey could pick, could pick Paddy.
But he did play one shot. What was that about?
No, I don't know. I mean, it's, you know, a bit
risk and reward maybe whether it's whether he can potentially

(27:35):
get off, it's, you know, high risk shot.
Wickets were falling at the other end as well, so.
Yeah, yeah. But you're clearly getting
nowhere after 15 overs. Paddy you.
Did you have any observations onthat?
I don't want to put you on the spot or compromise you, but did
you have a feeling that things just weren't right for the way
things progressed? My view was that I think hockey

(27:55):
set himself to bat through the innings and get some support off
someone, but the the middle orders fragile and it just
wasn't going to happen. And it didn't even look like it.
I got. The impression he kind of knew
that so. Yeah, it says you said Joe
Martin. We're all different.
You know, I think I'd rather a run pass one and get get myself

(28:15):
in dressing room after trying toknock cricket field stand down.
But we're different, you know, That's that's why possibly he's
a pro and I'm not. Gav was it on on the big screen
in the club. It was.
It was towards the end. It was towards the end, so I was
trying to watch it on on my phone balls watching twos as
well. But I think, you know, from what

(28:37):
I could just see on the on the stream, obviously not being
there, it's not great. I just thought, you know, there
must were there too much pressure on Bedford and you
know, he's a hell of a player and scored a lot of runs and
capable of some really great innings.
And, you know, the way that Walker saw the back of him and,
you know, did that. So to set the tone, you know,

(28:59):
like, like Joe Martin says, you know, we we seem to ball
extremely well and put them under considerable pressure.
Perhaps you just didn't give them a chance.
But we're not being there. It's very difficult to sort of
comment too much to be honest. Yeah, it is.
But you know, sometimes you get some good banter in there and
you know, in the club ice if you're away from it and the

(29:20):
screen, you know, screening the games is so good, it does help.
So an absolute comprehense if wewin anything else on that game
before we go on to the the Cup game.
Can I just have a just a very quick, I know we've mentioned
them briefly, but the young spunkers, I thought the three
young podcast horse wannabes, Walker Gansler and Cotton

(29:44):
Junior. I thought they were brilliant.
I know Gary mentioned Henry length earlier, but I thought
that Walker and Gansler's last eight over assault really sort
of knocked the stuffing out of Burnley.
I thought when they got rid of Johnny Whitehead that we were

(30:04):
160 for four with eight overs left.
Burnley would have been thinkingsub 200 here.
You know, they might be thinkingwe could we could chase 190 on
this on this wicket. And then two taking us to 2:30
in the manner that they did would have really, really sort
of knocked the stuffing out of Burnley.
And I think that played a massive part in in the bowing

(30:25):
them out so cheaply. Obviously Johnny will get the
headlines for his wonderful 96, but I thought Gansler and Walker
and Henry to a slightly lesser extent, really sort of not the
not the stuffing out of them. Sometimes it's difficult to
explain what that's like, dude. And I forgot it because it's
been so long ago. Little things at the end of an
innings, in the first innings, you know, if you've, if you're

(30:47):
in between that 180 or 220 on anaverage track, little things can
change the attitude of battles. You know, we've, we've looked at
footage of their wicketkeeper for the last ball and we've
looked at, you know, they just seemed down and out that, that
that young, poor young lad who dropped that sitter and he just,
it knocks the stuffing out of people when they're coming out

(31:08):
to bat and, and lower eyes are in a position now.
Thankfully, it could change, could change soon or it could be
in a while. You take advantage of it and
it's they're absolutely ruthless.
You know that first team, they just don't give anything and
completely batter them. But I've.
Sometimes, yes, sometimes as well.
Your your your home fans can give you a lift card.

(31:28):
Yeah, and it was it was pretty quiet place.
I mean, somebody would ask me the question what the difference
was. I think it might have been
Johnny, you know, to in Derbys these days and and you know, to
of your and I was thinking aboutit.
They were saying the players arethere.
Is there any more animosity and things like that?
And I can't comment on on currently.
Obviously we're not playing, butbut that was a weird experience

(31:51):
for me. Just that Derby day and I know
it was called and we're miserable.
So don't get me wrong, I wouldn't expect it to be them to
be queuing all the way up to a fire station.
But I think it was it was pitifully quiet and they'd no
lift at all out there from the encouragement from their own
support as well. Whereas, you know, if we had

(32:11):
been all the way around for us to chasing 230 the decade have
been, you know, cheering Ben andJohnny actor craze.
Come on lads, you know, do this and every batter and you know
that have been, you know, good for every innings or every
boundary or whatever, they have been a bit of a bit of support
and a bit of atmosphere. So it's so true Gaz the you
know, the the off the field sortof mentality and you know, it's

(32:33):
almost like crickets. It's a great level of once you
get once you get down on your own shows, it's it's a it's a
habit of keep pushing you down, pushing you down when you're not
not there. So no, it's a it's a great
point. The the lack of spectators that
were there with, you know, we had quite a few there, but they
were all cold, but you could still hear them and still still

(32:55):
enjoy it. Enjoy the the game as it went as
far as Saturday goes. Joe Martin, let's get through
this in in 5 minutes. A great win.
Yeah, very good win. Played very well.
Early on, Jack Edgar looked in goodness.
Yeah, it looked very good, very good.
Obviously the power players in the in the world's the cup, but

(33:17):
Jack played to his strengths, hit the ball well, hit the ball
cleanly and and and looked pretty good, pretty good to me.
The. Pitch OK I wasn't on watching
that game I was watching from the far was was a pitch OK I.
Think it was what it was. It was one of those pictures
where so it's been really hot, it's been quite warm, it's been

(33:39):
very dry. And then we'd had a little bit
of rain on the Friday night or quite a lot of rain actually,
because when I went out in the morning there were quite a few
substantial puddles around. So you know, possibly a little
bit of moisture on that wicket, but still firm underneath.
Gave it a little bit. I'd say there was probably it

(34:00):
turned a lot. It did turn a lot and and and
Dan got a lot of bounce and and hockey ball really well.
It was one of those days where hockey gets everything,
everything right and and it's just nearly impossible to score
off really. And they're probably only one
that misbehaved. I think off the off the got the

(34:21):
pro out. Actually joints took a brilliant
to catch it. It slipped, but it just bounced
a little bit more than than you expected and got shoulder to the
bat. But I think, yeah, I think it
was, I think it was OK. It probably wasn't the the
flattest of pictures that that we've played on all year, but it
it played OK, I think. Jazzy, we're one of the wickets

(34:42):
that it's, it's all right at 55 for two and then it's a terrible
one at 70 for 7:00. So I don't think they were that.
One, I'm just going to say that when you're looking, you know,
5455 for one and then they lose that second wicket.
Me and Gary were both walked sections of it on the stream and
it seemed like there were 5 or 6over spell.

(35:04):
There was that one that reared up and then they just kept
losing wicket after wicket afterwicket, you know.
So from being 55 for one effectively, you know, you lose
63 for 9, sorry, 33 for 9:00 andyou're, you know, in the last
few overs. So they've got to be kicking
themselves a little bit, never in doubt knocking them off

(35:25):
Paddy. I'm not great to watch those
chairs, to be honest, chairs. So I'm probably the wrong person
to ask for that. But yeah, once we got going, we
were, we were well on our way and Johnny battered really well
again. Ben set the 10 pointers and
early and then Dan came in and finished it off nicely.
Yeah, I was just going to say you couldn't do this one person

(35:47):
worse to ask than you for for sitting on the fence.
And that's why I chose you. It's not.
A great, not a great sample for you to pick from all these two.
No, not from you 2. No, you need Frankie in the
middle of you. But you look at that, you know,
we've won with, you know, with 20 odd hours to go with two
down, never really in debt, in doubt and the the draw is taking

(36:09):
place tomorrow night. I'm led to believe a little
preview for it from you 2 guys who's still in it.
Who knows that? Really still in it?
Yeah, who else? Walston.
Yeah. Ramsbottom.
Has it? Yeah.
No, I think as as the right Norden.
Norden beat them. Oh, did they?
OK. Rocksdale.

(36:30):
Second Division. In Enfield.
Enfield and Burnley. So it's Burnley, Enfield, Law
House, Norden, Ramsbottom, no Rochdale and what all your green
mounts are still in there. Accrington and Walls.
That's some kind of that in thatsecond round, every home team 1
apart from 1:00. Really.

(36:51):
Yeah, bizarre start. So would you fancy Joe Martin?
They're all good teams so you know, it'll be any game will be
any game will be tough when we've got to, we've got to play
well. What about you?
Who would you fancy? Take anyone, Jess.
Good lad, thanks for your commitment.
Anyone at the minute I think andthere's some strong teams left

(37:15):
who obviously like to avoid them, but you're going to have
to play them at some point, aren't you so.
Enfield at all Mile we get a repeat of the 2004 semifinal.
Enfield at all? That would be my choice.
Area, area, that would be ideal.Let's go on to the second 11.
On Saturday, they beat Church inthe junior knockout trophy.

(37:39):
Again Declan, he did a great job, 4.3 overs 7 runs for four
and took 4 wickets. A great effort from from deck
doing a sterling job getting hisbowling back together and again
113 all like Church. Charlie Bissell got 2 wickets
and the rest was shared with with that getting the four and

(38:01):
we knocked him off with five wickets down but with loads of
always left. Did you chat to anyone Joe
Martin or party about it? Just to give us a bit of a feel
free get Metcalf got 42. Yeah, I spoke to Deck in the
morning and will not cross, theysaid.
They said they bowled. They bowled really well and
obviously Law Law score the ballamount for and then and then

(38:26):
just battered, battered pretty sensibly and and managed to
knock them off. So it's a pretty professional
performance from them to to get into the next round of the cup.
Good lads, good lads and again that's been drawn tomorrow so
good luck with that boys. We are looking at a special
edition with the seconds and thirds coming on and Gab's going

(38:46):
to get them together and we're going to have a really good old
chin wag with them and not talk about the first team over the
next couple of weeks. So we're we're looking for
forward to that. And then in the league game on
Sunday, the second team, we're at home against Crompton
Convincing women Gav. In the end, yeah, I suppose you
can always say that. I mean, pretty weird.
Obviously we lost an early wicket day back, first debt,

(39:08):
right, daily doors and then everyone seemed to get a start.
Nobody really went on losing regular wickets.
But Biffle, Charlie Biffle battered well sensibly he got to
50 odd and you thought, you know, being 40 yards away, you
know, sat on boundary or whatever.
You don't know what the wickets have.
You thought, you know, you got some of top boards from it to
ball lap. You know, let's have a couple of

(39:29):
early wickets and you know, see how they go when they put 50 odd
on for first wicket. You think you oh, hang on a
minute. But to be fair, you know, they
look to a confident team did lower house, you know, there
were plenty of noise. There were there were no sort of
quiet spells. They were always at them.
And then as soon as they got thefirst wicket, you know, they
seem to take wickets at regular intervals with with people

(39:52):
chipping in. So in the end, yeah, we're a
good win, Another good win, you know, and they carry on the fan
form. It would just after a tough
season last year, it was just nice to see.
A good set of lads playing with a smile on the face, you know,
and taking wickets and scoring afew runs and then like they did
last year, you know, they're allin bar after and having a few

(40:13):
beers. So so yeah, well done the second
team. Yeah, and they they do.
You're right. What you say.
Then it is down to winning. It's not just a second division,
but you do get together. You, you know, you want to be
friends, friends and having laughs and everything when
you're winning and, and credit to them.
And let's, you know, let's hope that continues.
And a good shout out to Charlie Thistle.

(40:35):
Well, you know, in, in the second innings, you know, I
mean, he's taken 4 for the second inning.
He's, you know, he's performed really well there, bowled well.
Able is supported by everybody else, everybody, you know, Ollie
Williams bowled well, you know, I mean, Declan didn't take a
wicket, but bowled a decent spell.
And you know, like I say, there were plenty of noise, which, you
know, they're full of confidence.

(40:55):
They're winning games. So but no, it's it's nice to see
nice lads do well in T and yet another win and on the go.
Yeah, let's, let's hope to keep that up and I'm just going to
try and find the league table unless anyone's got it to hand.
Yeah, I have. One way away.
Top. Brilliant. 10 points, 10 points

(41:18):
cleaner Enfield. Yeah, we were top last week and
we got 12 points, so I should have really known that,
shouldn't I? But yeah, yeah, great.
Yeah, 70 points, 6 out of 6, onwards and upwards I guess.
It's keep that going lads, keep it going.
And as I said, we are going to get some facts and figures
together and get some of the theyounger players on thirds and

(41:40):
fourths and I know everyone's interested in that.
So we will, that will be up and coming in the future.
OK, I'm going to move on. There's two more subjects I want
to go through. If anyone else has got anything
about cricket then please give me a shout.
But just have a think. I just want to talk about on
Sunday night. It was good crack at the clubs.

(42:02):
It was a really great singer on lots of people in watching her
and having a good few pints. But I got accosted by three
young lads who think they can doa better job than us.
On the podcast. I believe there is a recording
knocking about which we maybe now need to try and get our
hands on. So they performed.
There was Tom Walker was initially me and then he became

(42:24):
Gav. Henry Cotton did an impression
of Joe Martin which I could not stop laughing at.
I got honestly, I needed there alittle bit came out.
It was just, and you've just been doing it, Joe.
So it was so funny. And then Charlie Ganzler gets
involved, who I've not really spoke to him much before, but he
starts doing things with his hands and miming him.

(42:46):
I'm trying to say we're not on video, it's on audio.
And he said, I'm Gary Morris from down South, and the signal
is not great. But we'll see if we can get the
recording and maybe it could be an alternative podcast that they
could do separately. There was a bit of swearing and
so we have to be careful with what we've got if we ever get

(43:10):
hold of it. But that was good fun.
Anything else from anyone else on here before we move on to the
draw? I believe they do it in dressing
room, don't they Joe? Yeah, they do.
And is it exactly the same as I've described as who, who?
And then is it just taking the mic out of you?
Yeah. That's not.
That's not fair. What about you?

(43:30):
You well be. Films.
What you need to do, Jazz really, is get Johnny watered on
because he does everyone. Yeah, he does.
What does he do? Everybody he can do anyway.
He's one of he's a genuinely brilliant impressionist.
If you ever see him do impressions of people batting,
it's it's very funny. Very funny.

(43:50):
Yeah, we could do that separately, can't we?
It's just if you, if we end up, you know, you can't, they can't
be insulting as we're doing our best.
I mean, it's, I think it pretty much insults me, but it's very
funny. So let's move on to the draw
with one brand new member for this month, what month we on the

(44:11):
end of May. So it is the normal hundred
#8#70 pound, 50 LB Sharon Stansfield's joined.
Sharon is #106 in the draw. I think it's worth just
mentioning that a little. A little bird has told me that
she didn't ask Paul if she couldjoin.
And when Paul found out, he's gone mental thinking that she's

(44:33):
going to win before him. And, and there's some there's
some real banter going on between them.
So if you can pull 106 out, Joe,that would be really helpful.
So we'll go on to the major row. This is for how do you get 100
LB? Any numbers, please, Joe?
Let's see if there's any extra ones at the bottom.

(44:54):
No. Up to 177, please no.
Problem. First prize for Β£100 in the May
2025 Lower House draw. It is. #42. 42 Well, no one can
complain at this lad. He has four numbers in the draw.
There's so much work. We had some funny stories about
him on on Sunday, Gav. I don't need to remember about

(45:16):
what he's like behind that till. It's Keith Faxler.
Well done. Oh.
Fantastic. Oh.
Brilliant. Well on Keith, popular winner.
Popular. Yeah, he has four numbers, so he
deserves to get those extra wins.
Second prize Joe is Β£80 please. #51. #51 me, me, Mike.
Oh, it's Scott Harrison. Scott Harrison's been in the

(45:38):
draw for a number of years. It's a popular win.
Let's have a look. Lastly, one of the sponsors at
the club is Bromley Travel. All right, Well done.
Yeah, Last one in February 21, Sam and.
Ben. And deck.
Sam and Ben. That Sam and Ben What?

(45:58):
Scott, Harrison, Sam and Ben Well.
Sam and Ben Harrison. It's Scott Harriston.
No, his children are called Sam and Ben.
They used to play at the club. Okay, well Scott Harrisons Β£180
hold on, Scott will get that to you as soon as so Β£70.
It's the third prize. Please, John.
Number 91. And 91 We'll be linking it, but

(46:20):
let's see if anyone can guess this.
Last Watchers is everywhere, always watching.
His family are always watching. Any clues yet?
Graham Martin No, they don't have any players.
I think might be grandkids mightbe just pushing through the
juniors. This could be a good game this
we could offer prizes like for the if you get it on the first

(46:41):
guess I've got some more clues, but you'd probably get it
easier. I.
Think that's. Grandkids coming through, did
you say? Yeah, I'm quite sure Adam's got
it, but don't look on the the pod on the Oh, everyone's just
looked. I have.
A look, Jess. Well, you is it?
Eric Kerr. Yeah, Eric.
Well done, Eric. Fantastic.

(47:02):
Well done, Eric. Well done, Bob.
Well done, well guessed dude. I was going to say it was an
absolutely outstanding footballer, great centre half
and oddest player ever played against ever in the life.
I got it off that, definitely. Yeah, I think, yeah, I think, I
think Gavin might have even had a chance.
Then Β£50, the last prize in the May 2025 lower house draw.

(47:23):
Please, Joe. 175 two. 5 right, we're all down to the bottom.
This was just not working, right, Joe?
It's going really slow, right? 170 Oh, it's freeze that one.
Can you draw me another one please?
#66. #66 I wish to play that game again.
Yeah, play it, lovely lad Bob. Beneducci.

(47:46):
No, I said. Lovely lad, not fat lad.
I can order gal, sorry. What you see?
No, it isn't Duke, but you're not far off.
Matt Marquis. No.
Next door to Duke. Yeah, it could be, but not not
his missus Blaze. No, no, I don't live there now,
guys. Don't hear us.

(48:08):
No, I'll give you another clue. It's probably the nicest lad at
the Cricket Club. Nice Chris Grace is me.
His nickname is actually Nice Chris, so he is.
He is a nice blow. Yeah, not as nice as this lad
the next. Who you go on Danny SIM?
Jackson, Steve said. Nicer than him, right?

(48:31):
I'm going to give you this finalclue and it's first one on the
buzzer. Gav getting all competitive.
Absolutely. He tends to sit on the fence a
bit. You're Martin.
Yes, you're Martin. I have to call them.
Bum dude, would you pull? That number out in the back.

(48:51):
Exactly. Bum deal it.
Can't be a bum deal. He sat with his brother.
He's. Who would ever accuse your
Martin of cheating and. He's just ringing Dominic
Domino's 5 minutes ago were planned.
Previous one was a free number. Yeah, yeah.
I'm afraid just let's just. Draw that again.

(49:13):
I'm not sure Joe knows his own number.
Put me back in no. I'll.
Give up a week and have it next time we meet up.
Oh. Yeah, that's a good idea, Jess.
It's. Going into podcast, then the
season trip. Yeah, exactly.
We're going to Vienna. Oh, Vienna, it's a random.
Choice. No.

(49:33):
Matt Stannis says he'll pay for it, so I'll just do a little
round up before we finish. I genuinely mean this.
Everyone who's listening, you know, the feedback you give us
is why we keep going. If we think no one's listening
and it's and it's crap, then we wouldn't be doing it.
But everyone's enjoying it so much.
Again, you can listen to back episodes.
And I don't want to embarrass Gary or or Fran.

(49:56):
When they were up at weekend, they were getting inundated with
people congratulating on the fantastic episode that they did.
And, you know, please listen to and listen to the, you know, the
cricket ones. It's fantastic for us to to know
that you listen to it. So I'll go right in the room
before we finish. We've obviously we've ran it
home next Sunday. So get down there and let's see

(50:19):
if we can keep this fantastic run going.
You know, they're all strong sides in the league.
So no complacency lads. But I'll come to you first,
Paddy, anything you want to add before we finish?
T20 starts on Friday as well, Jess.
This Friday is it, I thought theweek after, right?
Well, this Friday we'll have to pick a team soon, Joe No2 good
wins, played really well both there, so hopefully we can carry

(50:42):
that on and wonderful to also see Gary great.
Brilliant. Thank you.
Joe Martin, have you? Anything you want to add?
No good weekend, but let's not get complacent.
Gav, how are you? You.
You're technically sure, but on Sunday you were all right.
Monday. Eventually, yeah, T strip when I
woke up, but yeah, other than that, yeah, it's fine.

(51:04):
Good lad. Anything you want to add for
those all those admirers you've got out there listening to this
podcast? No, no, Enjoyable as always,
just. Brilliant.
That's great. Do anything.
Yeah, I need a sub, T20 DJ if possible for the Burnley game,
which is on Friday the 13th of June.

(51:25):
Our regular superstar DJ can't, can't do it.
So we need a we need a sub. So if anybody happens to listen
to this, you wouldn't mind having a bash at the T20 DJ?
Unlikely, I appreciate. But if anybody does hear this
then getting touched, that's Friday the 13th of June, Burnley
at home. We need a DJ.
Dude, that's a really good shoutbecause there's so many people

(51:47):
listen to it. Just just in a little bit more
finer detail. I'm guessing they don't need to
to really know what they're doing as far as DJ sets go and
all the equipment will be provided.
How will it run? The amp and the speaker will be
provided. Somebody will have to have their
own music and all they literallyall they need to do is be able
to press play when we hit a fouror a six or lose a wicket and

(52:08):
that's it. And it's just on the phone.
The phone will connect to the. IPad, anything, anything, any
device that they've got digital music on will work.
Brilliant if you want. To come down this Friday when I
when, when I'll be doing it, youcan, you can have a tutorial of
course, but the game that we we need support for is Friday the
13th, Burnley at home. That'll be a perfect tutorial

(52:30):
about not to do it. What music not to play?
What are you doing? I'm going to Nick Schulz.
What are you doing on Friday the13th?
Not doing that. Why support club club out don't
be a shit house. I'm not the one.
I'm not the I'm not the one who said yeah, I'll do it and then
can't be asked. I'll, I'll be.
I'm doing it. I'm just, I'm just away.

(52:50):
Right lads, lads. Typical you that say you'll do
something and then and then tossit off.
Typical you that. So is that a no gap?
You're not going out, No. No, no, no, no.
Calm down, calm down, calm down. This is.
This is why we don't. I don't.
Do it who? Who's your?
Gracie. Yeah.
Grace. You can do it.
I'll have chapter. He's a club man though.

(53:10):
He'll probably. Help us out, DJ Doyle.
Yeah, he could do it. So there's some options there.
Seriously, this could be a good opportunity because it would be
a good laugh. You will be from again dudes
just help me if I've if I've gotthis wrong everything set up for
you. You'll be in front of the the
Joe Martin suite at the the end room.

(53:31):
There's no one you know, you're not in the middle of a load of
crowd. You you segregated from from
everywhere else and. It's a few group and sometimes
yes few few groupies there sometimes.
Right, yes, you know, a few, a few, you know, lads and lasers
coming round asking for your autograph and you know, and
liking what you're doing. Beanie apps, etcetera.

(53:51):
And it, it would be relatively straightforward.
I am, you know, if you're reallystuck, dude, you know, I'm old
fashioned. I, I only know Frank Sinatra and
and The Beatles. But if need be, I'll come down
and and help out if we can't getsome.
But I think there'll be someone out there ready made for this.
I do. Yeah, I agree, Jess.
You don't have to be semi professional that Joe.

(54:13):
You don't have to play it to 1000 people.
No, no, I think it's a great opportunity this and maybe in
the future we could roughly off as well could.
So anyone listening please 13th of June, just make yourself
known to myself or Dutch or anyone else.
Don't don't give Gabby shout because he don't care.

(54:42):
And we'll see if we can get you a proper DJ name, maybe with a
T-shirt. So brilliant, that duche.
Great idea, Gary, so good to seeyou.
Hopefully we'll do it again thisyear.
Anything you want to add it before we conclude?
No, it was good to be up for a couple of games this weekend
and, and watching from afar is it's OK, but there's nothing

(55:03):
like being there and just to sort of everybody who who maybe
thinks, you know, I'll miss thisweekend or whatever, just get as
many games in as you can becausethat you're a long time away
sometimes. So supporting the team.
Good to catch up with all the players and and some new faces

(55:24):
who, like you say, sort of came up and made themselves known
about listening to the podcast. And yeah, the gentleman got
quite, quite emotional about it,which was interesting.
So yeah, great to be up there Jez, this weekend.
Brilliant. Good to see you guys.
I did. I mean, we can just mention now,
I don't know if this is top secret, but I just want to see

(55:47):
if the other people on the groupknow that Gary's come up just
for a few days and goes AWOL on Saturday night and finds his
cell locked in kettle drum. Now, I don't know if we should,
if I should have released that, but Fran knows about it, so it's
no drama. So you've got a lad who don't
know anyone because he's been away that long because in for a
pint and the landlord is servinghim free Ail.

(56:08):
It's about 2:30. It's 100% true.
Yes, 100% true. I had no option.
He was so friendly up there. Just won't let me go.
She hasn't. No, no, no, I wouldn't have
stayed that long. No.
And he wouldn't have been getting any free beer either if
shares were there. And it was a good story that a
good story because Gary thought that Fran were down still at

(56:31):
Turthmore and she thought he wasin.
He said I'm right back. And she thought he went right
back at Turth. He went right back at
Kettledrum. Brilliant, She.
Will leave me with eight a key. What's the?
Exactly, exactly. No.
Great stories, Gary, and great to see you.
So thanks everyone for listening.
We really appreciate it. We'll keep them going as long as
we can and and what certainly whilst we're winning, don't

(56:54):
forget the draws there. There's some spare numbers on
there so please just get in touch if you want to want a
number and the winners. Congratulations and we'll get
the money to you as soon as possible.
Support the sponsors as much as you can and support the club
like you have been. Thanks everyone.

(57:26):
Gordon, Gordon, send more house to save the house.
Come on. The house.
