(00:00):
You know, for being late, I think that's what he's getting.
I've been coaching the youth of tomorrow.
Have you ever been early for theyouth of today?
(00:34):
Send more house to save the house.
Punctuality. Punctuality.
You're the sort of it. Very good day, Jazz.
All good. Thank you.
Yeah, all good. I've been busy, really quite
busy with work. It's a bit.
(00:55):
I need to put it down a bit, butI'm going to Eddie Lee tomorrow,
so that should be OK. Headingley.
Oh, the. Last Oh, you're in for a good
last day. Well, if the weather holds out,
I haven't been to any of the other days, but it holds out.
I've I'll go over in my van. Who knows?
It's grand. Was it impromptu, Jess, or was
it have you always planned to gothat?
(01:16):
Very much so, yeah. Yeah.
I don't know if Nikki's going toget the train up, but, but we'll
see. So, everyone, welcome to the
lower house Cricket Club's housecast returning them out these
days. Marty, Joe, Marty, we're
churning them out like you're stumping.
Well done. For those who don't know who
(01:36):
listen and who are dedicated followers, Joe's had and the
weekend is hundreds stumping in the Launcher League, which is
more than any other Law House wicketkeeper has ever had.
So congratulations, Joe, I know you're all shy and timid, but
it's some achievement that Paul.Well done.
Thank. You that's very kind of.
You enough for the nicest is whose jumpers you've got on.
(01:59):
My jumpers. That's not a lot of ice one.
No no, MCC actually got it from an 8 year old wicket keeper.
MCC good luck. Looking forward to tonight.
Jordan, how are you? Yeah, I am definitely.
We've got some cracking guests on so should be good.
And it's really, I think it's worth explaining to her last
minute. We're always going to record,
(02:20):
you know, the decent win on Friday and the settings continue
to do well. But it's good to just think
about outside the box and get some different type of the
players on that can come and chat to us.
So thanks everyone for listening.
We we will be drawing the the June Law House draw at the end
of this. So I hope Joe Martins brought
(02:42):
his random number selector. Duke, thanks very much for
joining us. We've got a couple of our horse
missing today. Do you know why gas are
available? I do, actually.
Yeah, yeah. It's only a weekend.
He's been to a corporate gig at Jacamo.
Brilliant. Well, is he?
Is he promoting it or is he going as a guest?
I think they said he just because he spends that much
(03:03):
money with him, just staying back to him.
Well, that's nice. That's that's nice.
Well, I hope you get what you need, Gav.
I hope, I hope it will fit you well.
And you can you can show off your wares for for the next time
we see you. We've got video footage of I
think Adam's still what he's doing.
It looks like he's sanding some sort of a tight chest out in the
(03:26):
garden. I don't know what's.
Correct. That's correct, yes.
It is a tight chest, right, Right.
So he obviously just to want just wants to listen in.
Without further ado lads, I think we're going to jump into
our guests. It's been a bizarre season and
and Duke last week broke broughtout some stats around the first
(03:47):
team and the scores of how many, what sort of the scoring rate
was in 2024 compared with 2025? You know, the first team is
still top of the league, albeit the game on Sunday was was
abandoned. But we cannot stop noticing how
well the seconds are doing and that's why we've got on a lad
who's played from for a number of years, been through a bit of
(04:09):
a tough patch with the relegation and when Matt were
captain and then getting back promoted again.
But he's a top lad from the Cricket Club, so welcome will
Will Norcross is is in the house.
Cheers. Yes, thanks for that
introduction. Thanks for having me.
You're welcome. No, it's really good that you
can get get, you know, get you on and we've had Declan on and
(04:32):
you know, Charlie Basil, anothersecond team is it's quite
phenomenal what's happening And it'll, you know, before I go
into our other guest who's a first team player who we want to
get into his ribs about his career.
What's your thoughts around the second team?
I've just been doing a bit of research at the last minute.
You've won 10 out of 10 and you're 29 points ahead.
(04:54):
I know it's the second division and you you want to get back in
that first First Division. Have things changed much?
How do you feel that that that form has gone the way it has?
I think it's just hard work and confidence device.
Yes, obviously we were a bit gutted we are last year when it
didn't quite go how we wanted itto, but we sort of keep come
(05:15):
back sort of stronger than ever really.
Like I say, confidence is flowing between group and
everybody's happy cracking on. So yeah, it's working well at
the moment and we're getting a bit of luck.
Obviously Saturday we managed toget a game in and end up going
away with 12 points where everybody else has been called
off, but we just got to go away while it's going our way.
So yeah, let me continue. Yeah, and I'm I'm not sure
(05:36):
you're saying you get a bit of look that that comes and goes.
You look at the where the set, the first three wars with the
the game of Clitheroe. You know that that comes and
goes. Your form's been in you've been
quite a good nick throughout theyear.
I don't know what you 2 about 300 runs now 3 or 400.
Yeah, something like. That all nine in all
competitions. Good luck.
(05:58):
Good luck. What you putting that down to?
Well, is it again hard work or is there any preparation?
I did a little bit of work with selfie winter Nets just
regarding my stance and possiblyjust putting a little bit too
much weight on the front foot and just sort of trying to work
on that and hang back a little bit.
So lack anything when you've been doing it for so long.
(06:20):
It felt a bit weird at first, but I'm getting there now and it
feels, it feels a bit more comfortable.
So yeah, I'm happy with how it'sgoing and obviously been getting
a few runs as well, which is good.
Brilliant and it the way Declan's managing the the side
and will come on to Frankie playing at weekend and the way
the rest of the players are coming to the party.
You know the you've some good players in there but they
(06:40):
haven't performed that much. You know, certainly towards the
end of last year I think the goal got a bit demoralised.
The team spirit seems to be second and on.
Is that filtered down from the first team or is that something
you've got going yourselves, youthink?
Yeah, I think it's throughout the club really.
You know, we all have good crackand we all, we all get on.
Yeah, it's it's great cracking that.
(07:02):
Jessie V you know, we all give up our weekends to play amateur
cricket, you know, training as well through weeks.
So you've got to have that fierce cracking changing room
just sort of pick you up on yourlow days really.
You're not going to win every week or you're.
So, you know, you've got to havethat crack and make sure that
you know you're still enjoying yourself while you're playing or
else, you know, you question whyyou're there really.
Yeah, and it's easier when you win in, you know, it is easier.
(07:23):
Should I say it's easier? There's still a lot of hard work
going into it, but that prep andthe next and everything worked
really well. I mean, when you got your tongue
at Wales Gun, you know, I'm led to believe there was some extra
preparation for that. Do you know just detail what
happened there if? I remember Outlook, yes, I think
I had a nice early night. I think I went to bed no later
(07:44):
than 10. I think it were I had a nice
carbohydrate full fuel meal before.
And yeah, let's say early night, didn't eat too late, don't want
to be eating too late before a big game day after.
And yeah, just prep really well.Well, that's good.
That's good. So that so that question's well
answered there. Charlie Bissell, that's what
(08:06):
your answer is. So we'll move on to the first
team just to talk through. First of all, I think you know,
and Joe Martin, if you jump in as as well, we've got a lad here
who's who's played for us for a number of years, done a little
bit of research, made his debut in the Lancashire League when he
was 16 when he was played for Nelson, played in T 20s back
(08:28):
then in the first team and he actually got 128 wickets for
Nelson, which has really shockedme a little bit.
Toxic as saying how you doing toxic?
Well, is he all right? Yeah, All good.
Thank you. I don't want to embarrass you
about that, but that is some performance going by.
I mean, I wasn't playing when you made your debut even, but I,
it just seems like you know this, the amount of runs that
(08:50):
you got then you got an 80 yard and a tonne of runs and also 128
wickets. I don't want to put you under
any pressure at all, but just talk us through your your early
career, how you found it and else, who you played with, who
you played against, what pros were at Nelson when you were
playing. When I first started, we had
Craig McMillan. Oh yeah, yeah, I.
(09:11):
First started with him and then we had Luke Woodcock is in New
Zealand. Left hand, left hand back.
Yeah. Church as well, Didn't he talks?
Played at church as well, so we had him in and in and out the
team and then we had Corbis Pinot for half a season and then
you guys poached him season after.
I don't. Remember him playing at Nelson
(09:33):
at? All yeah, he he played at
Netherfield. I think we had we had Supros
half a season. He played most of most of the
season fours. Do you remember?
That at all? Yeah, so we had a decent side in
2014 was our best side, maybe a Crotty playing Tyler playing
Thomas captain Kurum is here. We are rank Canning who's our
(09:54):
Wanderers. It's very decent side.
Then I think we come semi finalsof Worsley Cup, T20.
I think we lost in a slow house down at and Nelson as well that
same season and we finished third in the league I think that
season. So you're a young lad, you're
very established at that time top.
So you're looking at your figures, were you comfortable
(10:15):
quite early on in the LancashireLeague?
I'm coming on to the way you bowl, I'm coming on to how how
precise you're bowling. Were you like that when you were
a kid? To be honest with you, I played
a lot of second team cricket andNelson, so I used to bowl a lot
of always and then when I went to the first team I slowly
started bowling over more overs and then with the batting up
(10:37):
after. Funny enough, when I scored that
runs that season are coming before the pro.
So if the pro, if the amateur got out, are going, if Tyler got
out promenting, looking off how much you got out.
So I went in early, yeah. Yeah, but don't, but don't put
down what you've done there tops.
You know that it's a massive amount of runs as how old were
(10:59):
you doing then? Early 20s I think was there when
I scored 2014. I scored them once, to be honest
with you. Right, right.
And it is a great achievement inwhich, you know, will bring me
on to things that have happened this year and also, you know,
the way you've managed your cricket.
Let's just go back to your bowling.
We've had Adam's put out a few questions on on various social
(11:23):
medias and it's a really great question.
Gary Kirsten said I've does toxic bowl the so accurately
with his line and length, his metronome, the way he bowls.
Is that something you've worked at or did you have that as
naturally when you were younger?Just naturally, to be honest
with you, I don't really think about it too much when it comes
(11:43):
to bowling. Just both of the stumps and I'll
get hit, I'll get hit if I go with it, I go with it.
Keep it simple. But you don't get hit that
often, you know, the years we'vebeen watching you, you know
you're reliable. The captain can, you know, can
decide obviously if there's a pro who's an international or a
top, a top amateur, they're going to take us all apart, you
(12:05):
know, even with good length balls.
But you are, you know, you can change games just with that and
taking the pace off the ball as well, you know, Is that
something you've worked on? Yeah, just like recently the
last few seasons, Joe, beyond the wickets, working with Ben
Salper this year. Yeah.
Just different lines and different areas, different set,
(12:26):
different fields. Thus, I've changed that a bit
this year, to be honest with you.
No, I think it's fantastic. I'm going to come back and talk
about Friday's game just to get your view of how that went
against Great Harwood, Joe Martin, what you know, keeping
to toxic, you know, you're not diving down the leg side a great
deal. Or do you do you have some
(12:46):
telepathy between your boss as to as to you know where it's
going and out? Well, he's very accurate, so you
probably don't don't need that much telepathy.
But we've always had a, I think from the very first game, tops
that first friendly. We've always had a, had a, had a
pretty good partnership, I think.
Yeah. Have you had the?
Yeah. You played at Woodbank?
(13:08):
To be honest with you, one of one of the reasons I've joined,
I joined Joe Martin behind the stumps.
Let's have a loving come. On later but obviously when you
got a good keeper behind the stumps makes a big difference.
Well, I don't know, but it, it, it makes my job easier.
Like, you know, you know what it's going to be.
And typically it's a stunt anyway, so.
(13:31):
It's but Topsy is so right thereJoe is.
It's like a chicken and egg, youknow, if you get a really good
Wick keeper, the bowlers, the good bowlers will bowl better
and we'll try different things. You know, we went through a
period when we had clang and greasy palms and and Nicky and
and Charlie Cottam. It's difficult, you know, and
good, good players and pros, even, you know, some pros would
(13:54):
say hello, you need to get some behind the stumps.
So that's really interesting, that top set, no.
No, no, it's really good. It's like Joe Hulk this season.
Yeah, he's been amazing. Joe up to the stumps to him.
Not many players can play. And you know, on Sunday you come
to the stumps and Joe Hulk pulled really well.
Yeah, yeah. And he he does make the
difference when you've got that got confidence and you know you
(14:15):
know that you your stump has gotthe ability.
So Joe some sorry Friday the T20game.
I think there are quite a few people there.
I think a car or two got dented complete, you know,
annihilation. Really.
Anything to comment, anything you want to talk about I.
(14:35):
Think on the scorecard, it certainly looks it certainly
looks that way. And obviously there was one big
wicket in that in in the Pro, but I think for probably, I
don't know, 67 overstocks, they're up with the rate and if
the and if the. Yeah, they've got the flight in
there, Yeah. And they're broken back.
You know, he's a good player. And he hits a big ball and he's
(14:59):
and he can and he can certainly take the game away from you.
So that was a, that was a very big wicket that we needed when
they first started. I mean, you kind of kind of
think because the six, it was quite, it was a very short
boundary on one side and and they and they attacked it as, as
did we really, Because in our innings, obviously Johnny,
(15:19):
Johnny battered exceptionally well again and got 80 odd.
And then everybody else around him did as well.
Dan Francois, Tom Walker and allall contributed and one hit some
massive 6, some really big sixes.
So it was a yeah, it was a, it was a battered very, very well
(15:42):
to get to that score, to get to over to.
That's good, but let me just take you back and let me pick
you up on the their pro. So this is where your glasses
are empty and that you're thinking their pro could have
still won it when they they'd lost 234 wickets.
I've not been footage, had to get 160.
Yeah. No, I don't disagree.
(16:04):
I don't disagree with you. I think at the no, you're right,
Jess. Matt, Matt's standing again, his
knickers in A twist as well. Jess, let's drop him in it.
Oh, we need a wicket. Oh, we need a wicket.
Oh, you need that, you need that.
You need that kind of levelling Jess, because you can't just go,
well, we'll eventually get him out and just keep rolling until
he hits on to somebody. So, you know, you need that
(16:26):
little bit of intensity. Yeah, but you can't have.
If you had more than you talk to, you wouldn't ever have
thought that. Ben certainly won't have thought
it. Dan won't have thought it.
He he would need to literally get 160, we'll say with 234 down
it would and I'm disappointed the chair of the club even even
thought that way. Yeah, to be honest, you've done
that, Partners, isn't it? Wickets were tumbling around in
(16:50):
Yeah. Yeah, and you're all good enough
as a team. You know if you did get take up
four sixes off off 4 balls, you get him off the strike for and
you don't need to do it for well.
I think like the the the big turning point in in that in that
game was actually bringing bringing top beyond.
(17:10):
Yeah, yeah. I think I think in that over
that you came on tops. I think you had five, I think
you had five dot balls in it, orcertainly or might have or
certainly built a lot of. Pressure.
So you think that was the turning point in the game?
Yeah. Yeah.
And then and then Dan came on from the other end, took a
couple of wickets and again. So when you say there were 3 or
4 down, Jazz Dan took three wickets in and over.
(17:33):
They were run out and then and then and then two and then two
other Wicked. So but Topsy bowling that really
tight over in the middle just forced their pro to do something
different. And he tried to reverse Sweet 1
and it I don't even know how he hit it to to to fine leg.
But yeah, very it it's easy for us to say, Joe, and we are
(17:54):
teasing a little bit with you. It is easier when we are, you
know, watching from afar. You, you will answer and are in
the, you know, in the the heat of the moment.
But you know, it's that if he'd have won that game, you took it
hundreds. Yeah.
It'd. Be incredible and it would have
been an incredible performance. So, you know, you March on
(18:15):
again, again undefeated in that T20.
Did you go over Duch? I did.
Yes, I did. Were there a few on?
Was it a? Yeah, a relatively busy, yeah, a
few of our, our supporters were there.
Our second team, vast majority twos were there as well.
So it was good, it was. It was a good nice sunny
evening. Brilliant.
(18:35):
Let's just let's go back to the seconds we've had.
As we said, Adam's put out on socials for some questions as to
what's what's going on certainlywith our guests and and some
questions to them. One that 03/4 of coming well,
and I guarantee this is a serious one.
(18:57):
People wanted to know about Frankie, You know, our you know,
legendary extra always played for a lot of years for us.
You know, he's big and daft and he's, he's, he thinks he's
getting too old to play. So he's, you know, taking
himself away from playing the cricket.
But, and again, I'll come to Duchy in a minute as to why that
happened. But he's come back now and he,
(19:19):
you know, he's making himself available.
He's, he's getting himself fair.He's clearly a, you know, a
fantastic player. What was it like to have him in
the seconds? Yeah, great to have him.
Just to be honest with you. Obviously he's experienced and
his knowledge of the game is second to none as we all know,
so to have him in any dressing room, never mind at second team
(19:40):
level was brilliant for us. He was constantly talking to us
throughout prior to the game, you know what his expectations
were and what he wanted us to get out of it and use him.
You know how he how he wanted usto use him.
He was talking to us all the waythroughout the first innings,
just demanding more from us, just keeping them standards
really high, just what you'd expect really.
(20:01):
You know, after the game, you know few me and few of the lads
sat in the bar just sort of saying.
How we can use that and just tryand implement that into every
game. You know, it shouldn't take
Francois coming in and trying todrill that into us.
It should be the standards that we're setting every game.
So yeah, it's great to have him and yeah, he was just just good
(20:21):
all round for the young lads as well.
Yeah, and when you think you know, what he's done in his
career and you know, I would argue certainly on performances
and results, one of our best pros we've ever had.
It continues to to contribute, whether it's to the juniors,
whether it's to the first team, you know, and helping out where
it is over the last two or threeyears.
(20:43):
Was he as daft as ever in the dressing room?
Was he? No, I don't think so.
It's quite sensible. It's quite sensible to be
honest. Not as daft as what I were
expecting, but it was good. He he keep quite a level head.
Obviously it was quite persistent in the like I say,
the standards that he was tryingto drill into us.
We knew obviously we had the weather forecast three 4:00 and
(21:07):
that we had limited time. We obviously won the toss and
Dec decided to bowl, which it basically the game plan that we
set out to do before the game came to fruition.
And you know, we bowled them outfor 69 and ended up chasing it
down in in five overs. I think.
So yeah, I think Francois ended up hitting the winning runs
about 30 seconds before he absolutely tipped it down.
So it just worked out well for us and like I say, it was just
(21:30):
great to have him. And it's almost the opposite of
the first team. The way that their game went in
the rain came too early before, you know, because, because they
were, you know, they were clearly going to knock their
rooms off, you know, but the theClitheroe that they got faced
with with Clitheroe what within the second team and and how was
it a tactic to to just battery because you were that confident
(21:54):
the forecast was going to go theway it did.
And I mean, the forecast was sort of changing.
I look early morning and it was saying it was going to be black
earlier and then it sort of changed throughout the day.
But I think we had, we had an idea where we were going to
bowl. Just naturally being confident.
We are playing at the moment andbowl was bowling well.
So you know, we had an idea thatwe were going to bowl and try
(22:16):
and get it done early if we could.
And yeah, luckily it turned out that way.
And when you look at the performance, you know that 69
all I would share out a little bit. 5 shortcut got 5 wickets,
Keegan got 3. Is there you know, is there a
feel where that you've got you're going to get a chance
(22:36):
certainly yourself will and other people because the first
team is so strong and such a bigsquad.
You know you keep churning out these runs.
Are you still pushing to get in the first team?
Well, obviously are you you are pushing to get in the first
team, but is that achievable? Do you think the way things are
going I. Think, I think the main aim for
twos is just to try and play youknow, and try and win every week
and just keep trying play as best as you can.
(22:58):
Obviously if you're playing well, then you know, you last
thing you're getting looked at for the ones, but it's just a
case of trying to keep playing to the best of your ability.
And you know, anybody who's played second team cricket knows
the standard between, you know, seconds to 1st is massive.
So it's just it's a case of taking what you come from that,
that second division, you know, beating who you come up against
(23:20):
and just just playing with confidence and just trying to
win as many games as possible. Yeah.
And I guess just take your chance when you know, when you
when it when it comes on. I mean, I'm going to put you on
the spot here, Duke, because it's you know, when you look at
our first team now, you know, a strong eleven stroke 12 stroke
13. And then, you know, you're
(23:42):
obviously throwing Frankie into that and you're throwing
blessing to it. Get Metcalf played again this
year. Will's getting stacks and stacks
and runs. You know, Charlie Thistle's
getting wicked. How difficult is that for the
selection and for the, you know, the lads behind the scene,
behind Ben and the pro to manageall that?
You know, the squad of potentially 15 or 16 players.
(24:04):
How do you manage that? It is it is difficult and
there's no, no escape in it really.
And they added dimension this year for both teams is of
course, because they're both winning every week.
Nobody's missing. It's miraculous, isn't it, that
there's no like this. If I haven't looked at the
numbers, but the second team in particular, I bet you at this
point last year I bet they used 10 more players than they have
(24:27):
this year. Yeah, yeah, I bet you're right.
Just because because they're winning every week and nobody
wants to miss and it's the same same a little bit in the first
team, although they've always been obviously more stable.
But it's a good problem to have,I suppose.
You know, you want you want ladsto be in form and and and making
life difficult for selectors andthat's what we've got at the
(24:49):
moment, both teams at the top ofthe league and that drives
everything else forwards. Doesn't it?
Yeah, absolutely. And what you know that you will
have been involved and I know you can only tell us what you
can tell us, but what was the rationale behind Frankie playing
in the second team? Is it a case of getting some
match practise? Is it a case of he couldn't fit
(25:10):
into the first team or is it something he wanted to do?
A little bit of all, all of themthings.
So we spoke before on here aboutyou know what, why he didn't
start the season. He he was having some time away
from cricket. I think he would be the first to
admit that he didn't feel the way he expected to feel and he
wanted to come back and play. And maybe 3 or 4 weeks ago he
(25:32):
started telling people that he wanted to come back and play.
But he did have a couple of weeks where he was unavailable.
So what we agreed was if we could find a spot for him in the
first team, he would, we would pick him.
But unfortunately for him, obviously the team are at the
top of the league and they're not losing many games and like I
(25:52):
said earlier, everybody's available.
So we didn't feel it was fair toshoehorn him in to a winning a
winning team straight away. And so he then said, well if I
can't get in the first team, I'll play in the second.
Sorry Jess. I have said I don't think that's
a long term thing. I don't think that's really
sustainable. I think if you've got a player
(26:14):
as good as Frankie is and has been a professional and has
scored centuries for Lore House,it doesn't really make any sense
to leave him in the 2nd 11 and I'm sure at some point he will
get back in the first team. And that is, you know, the big
calls now, people who are listening to this will be sat in
the seat in the car or sat on the set to you thinking, Oh,
cracky, that that's that's massive.
(26:36):
But they all great positions to be in.
And you know, we've got to be thankful for the playing squad
we've got because we you know, we literally I'm just looking
through again, the second team there yourself, will, you know,
not blowing smoke up your backside, but yourself and debt
Metcalf, you know, and probably you know, Keegan and certainly
Jackson. If he gets his ass in gear, you
(26:57):
would get him more first teams in definitely the second
division, you know, not the First Division.
So he's I mean, I've actually the question already will so not
put it back on your toes. But what I would say is to keep,
you know, to keep going. There's injuries as things
happen and you send 11 players or what?
Keep the first team strong and, you know, and keep pushing
(27:18):
players, pushing players and andthen it's it's almost a conveyor
belt. It's fantastic to see it all.
We all be. It must be very difficult for
for Dutch and for Ben and and other people who were selecting
Joe Martin. Have you any, you know, thoughts
on that? You know it's difficult that I
know you don't get involved in anything ever, but you know, you
(27:38):
must look at the whole squad andthe club the way it is.
Is it exciting or does it worry? You're thinking we've got these
quality players that I. Mean, I think it's been a so
probably since 2011 when we believe with the current batch
of players, I'd say probably been, it's probably been a thing
since then. And if you look at the first
(27:59):
team, there's probably 7 or 8 within there that we're still
playing in 2011 with. So, and, and when everybody's
contributing, it's really hard to justify not, you know, not
picking them because that doesn't, that's not fair,
doesn't make, doesn't make sense.
If you look at a lot of the players that have that have
left, that have had really good careers, you know, good amateur
(28:21):
and professional careers like Jack Edgar and Joe Halstead, you
know, people, people like that would, would, would be, would be
part of the would be part of thefirst team.
But you can only ever pick 11. And I think it and I think it's
great that there's that there's so much competition.
I do not envy Joe Ben Deck for the for having the decision.
(28:44):
Yeah, I mean that is we could have a complete episode
separately, you know, without Toxie and Will around you,
right. You just mentioned two players
then, but we've had this conversation walking around the
ground, you know, we've, we've had 10 players that or more that
have, that are really good cricketers, but have, you know,
have left because they want to play the first team, which, you
(29:05):
know, never really happened in my in my dear.
And a lot of clubs now it's not happening.
But we don't want to get too serious and and too doom and
gloom around it. I'm going to work move on to
some questions that have been sent in Dutch.
Is there anything else you want to talk about with regard to
cricket and last weekend? No, I just wanted to ask Toxie
about what he thought of his mate Johnny Whitehead's
(29:27):
incredibly sensible podcast performance a couple of weeks
ago and if Toxie had any thoughts on that.
Which is a shame. Sorry chaps, where am the
connections? The big poor.
You're back with us. Right.
I'm asking you, Toxie, what you thought.
Have you made Johnny Whitehead'sincredibly sensible performance
on the podcast last week? I believe he's had some stick
for it. So can you give us your view?
(29:49):
Johnny the he's a, he's a funny character with a good, he's a
good lad, to be honest with you.I said to him yesterday is the
best. He's.
I think he's played for a long, long time and I think the most
sensible he's been. I think the marathon must have
helped him, yeah. It must have been being
sensible. Yeah, honestly.
(30:11):
Obviously around the changing room, he's one of the key, the
key members of the team and thisyear's been, I think this took
his game to another, another level to be honest with you.
It's very, very sensible answer.I thought you were going to give
him some stick. Toxic.
No, I can't give him Johnny Stick only, only in the training
rooms. Right.
OK, fair enough. What goes on there stays in
(30:34):
there. It was so comical last week we
had Johnny on and he has got that, you know, he he were born
daft. He's a lovely sliding world.
Him and Joe Martin that used to war and grain when they were
about 6. I will get on selling CDs and he
hadn't changed And it was only Ithink it really shocked me in
Dukes last weekend last week in the podcast.
(30:54):
So we were just waiting for a bombshell to be dropped or for
him to come out with some daft. So good luck Johnny, keep it
going if you keep getting wrong. No, honestly, I spoke to Joe.
He did. Toxie's talk.
Yesterday or last week, saying Ithink with the ages come, he's
come off. You have to relay for his joy if
you had the conversation last week, I think he said.
(31:16):
I think Toxie was just about to say I think Johnny's come off
sniffing glue. He.
Keep doing well. Yeah, Toxie said that he's
doing. Well, he's doing really well.
Let's go on to some questions. Well, I'm going to come to you
and a question from someone off Instagram.
(31:37):
I can't tell who it is. AJ dot DIY what made you get
into cricket? Just talk us through in your
junior years. I think I started at primary
school, probably won't be that popular.
Boy actually went down to Burnley for a training session
down there and yeah, it were chaos, or so I'm told by my
(31:58):
parents. But yeah, originally went down
to Burnley and then ended up coming down to Lorre House and
yeah, just just enjoyed it, really just enjoyed batting and
just enjoyed like the social side of it.
Met a lot of friends through cricket.
And yeah, just ended up playing down at Lorre House up until
about 1920 and then had a bit ofa break from it and then, yeah,
(32:23):
moved back round into the area and then just sort of fell back
in love with it again. Just like spare the crack the
area, just it's just good playing with your mates and just
having a laugh. Brilliant, brilliant.
And again I've come back to you Will, we've got more questions,
talk, say the questions come in for you and what made you get
(32:43):
into cricket and also what wouldyou like to achieve now?
Is it your mid 30s? Cricket wise thought you engaged
and Nelson to be honest with youand obviously with the primary
school being next in the most ofour lads we play together,
school lads Skype and play Nelson and then from there to
(33:06):
school to Low House to be honestwith you.
Brilliant, brilliant. Thanks, Toxie.
I have one more for you Toxie towards the end back to you will
there's we've got there's no name on this message that's
coming around around something about that.
You feel like you're the Josh Brownhill of the second team.
What does? What do you mean by that I.
(33:28):
Think that's, I think that's been twisted slightly, yes.
I'll tell you a proper story about that.
I was talking to Kathy about thelittle game where we had players
missing. So Charlie Biffle, obviously
injuries broke his hand, Keegan was out at some festival and
then shortcut pulled out as well.
Not before. We're not quite sure as the
(33:49):
reason behind that. So I was trying to explain it in
layman's terms and ended up having to go to football and
just sort of explained it as it's like Burnley play in Man
City, missing Trafford, Estevan Brown.
And yeah, that's been twisted, shall we say.
I think that sounds it. Well.
(34:10):
That was a conversation you had with cafe.
Was it Will? Yeah, well, she goes on turf.
Don't. She's doing.
So I'm just saying, so if you, if you want to, if you wonder
where the questions come from, it can only be from her then can
it? Well, I think I've got a good
idea that who it might have comefrom, but yeah.
It's worth mentioning Caffia is his Will's better off lovely
lady who I think looks after himfrom time to time.
(34:33):
They were also apparently, and again, this is from another
anonymous messenger through to Instagram.
I think about a couple of years ago, you're out with a dodge, a
knee, you really damage your knee and you declare yourself
fit for selection. Again, being tough and didn't
want to let the side down. What did you do with, you know,
(34:56):
to make sure you were fit beforeyou got to the ground at home?
I won't be able to tell you, Jess.
What game does it say? No, this person hasn't said what
game. I mean what they've said was
that they'd they'd heard a rumour that this morning you
were still weren't that fully fit, but you didn't want to let
the lads down. So the morning of the game you
(35:17):
burst into into I think your ownbedroom and you were dressed in
your full white with your box onyour thigh pad, your pads and
gloves, playing fake shots and shouting I am back baby, can't.
Confirm nor deny on that one, Jess.
Then we've all seen that we've had a couple of messages in
about your your sleeping habits. Will you know after you've got a
(35:40):
tonne or after a great game you've you've been done to go a
wall? What's all that about?
No, it's just sometimes yes, I quite like to sleep outside.
Open to elements, particularly after a good win or a few beers.
I find it it sort of it makes meless hung over it next morning.
(36:01):
So sometimes I'll come home fromclub and and the the backyard
looks quite attractive when I sofa on there and do then just
have a little sleep. Right.
And it seems that a lot of people seem to take pictures of
you. Who, who could that be?
You're fast asleep at half four in the morning.
Your wife or your partner thinksthat you've you've been attacked
(36:23):
and mugged in lower house and people come looking for you.
Yeah, well, I can't say much about that to be honest with
you. I was just comfy and obviously I
was flat out so must have must have been comfy.
Brilliant, brilliant. Back to you, Toxie.
What's been your biggest inspiration?
You know, whether it's been a pro or you know, coaches around
(36:44):
the specifically the way you bowl.
Good question. No one really, to be honest.
I've just, I've just to be honest with you, I just enjoy
bowling and enjoy impacting games and just over the years
I've just enjoyed getting pros out.
So any pro that comes up, I'll come up against.
I like challenging myself. So yeah, I'm just.
(37:05):
Brilliant. But it's, it's fair to say jazz
is talk to you, an unbelievable record against professionals.
It's incredible. I don't have any data to hand at
the minute, but it's it is, it is incredible.
It's unbelievable. Is it possible to get that data
together, do you think, Joe? I mean, I don't know if I don't
still listening but it. Yeah, absolutely.
(37:26):
Yeah, just probably not a that'll be not a Media I.
Think Jed, you were saying something, something about
achievement. To be honest, I'd love to
achieve something with this group.
We go off plays this season to be honest with you.
We've got a good group of lads. We're not, we're not playing
with our brothers to be honest with you.
Yeah. And we're a tight group at the
moment and if you could achieve something big this season that'd
(37:47):
be special to be honest with you.
No, that that's a great, great, great way to put it toxic
because you know, you're certainly heading that way and I
think, you know, keep this work going up and the second the way
they are, I think it'll be fantastic.
Yeah, Touchwood, hopefully, yeah.
Yeah, the the final question really, before I go back around
the other lads and we go on to the draw, What do you think?
(38:10):
You knew Nick's nickname? Toxic.
I believe it's Hussy. I think Charles and Holmes come
up with that, but they call him. You're not calling him.
Oh yeah, brilliant, brilliant. We're going to move on to the
draw in a minute. Do anything further about
(38:30):
cricket before we move on. I don't think so, Jess.
I can't really think of anythingcricket related at the moment.
Obviously we've got one more T20game this Friday and we've
already qualified for quarter finals, so we're going to have
cricket this Friday and the following Friday and hopefully
beyond that as well if we keep winning.
(38:51):
And then this weekend's league fixture is on Saturday, not
Sunday. For the first team, the seconds
are playing on Sunday, but the first team are playing on
Saturday this weekend. OK, dude.
It's probably worth mentioning. So the the T 20s are in in
different leagues, in different groups.
So we've got through to the quarter final stage now.
(39:12):
How does that work now? And then what?
What develops into who finally wins it?
I think it's the top two teams from each mini league qualify
for the quarterfinals and the It's A Knockout from there.
I'm fairly certain that the group winners get a home
quarterfinal. And.
Obviously it's not confirmed that we're group winners yet
(39:33):
because there's still, there's still a group game left to play.
So we'll have to wait and see what happens this this Friday,
OK? And then, so then there's the
quarterfinal with eight clubs in, as you said, there might be
a bit of preferential treatment for the teams who finish higher
up in their leagues. And then the finals day is on.
You know, one, it's generally the Sunday and the August bank
(39:56):
holiday was last year. And obviously we don't know
who's in that, that finals day yet.
And the, the, the location, the ground will be drawn as to where
that's taking place. So I think that's about it into.
Yeah, the finals day this year is on Saturday the 26th of July.
OK, right. It's earlier than, not earlier.
(40:16):
Yeah, yeah. Right brilliant.
So everyone get yourself down watching the whether it's the
first, second thirds or fourths or any of the juniors over the
next week. So it really does does help.
We'll talk. So we're going to do the draw
now so you can drop off if you want.
You're more than welcome to stopon because it is quite comical,
but it's up to yourselves. But before we remove on.
(40:40):
Cricket related. Go on, Joe, I forgot I didn't
come to you because you normallyignore me.
I've completely it was really awful of me and terrible to but
I don't think we discussed it onhere.
I don't think we mentioned that Pat took his 400th wicket
against Rammy so a few weeks ago, which isn't it, which is an
(41:01):
incredible achievement. I think he's up to 4th now or in
the in the standings on like theall time Law House bowling bull
affair. It's an incredible achievement
state so many wickets and he's been extremely consistent for
such a long time now. So hopefully continue.
(41:23):
But hold on, Pat. You've got 600 to go yet, I told
him. I told him he needs to get 1000
before he retires. So that'll be, that'll be some,
some achievement. That'll be brilliant.
No, I think you're 100% right, Joe.
I do write all this stuff down that you tell me, but I write in
so many different places. I, I can't find it or I move it.
(41:46):
It's really is a significant achievement because when Pat
started, you know, his bowling career as a young lad and, and
he's, you know, he's, he's quitesure the ball wasn't coming out
right. And he wasn't sure he was going
to get that consistency that he clearly got over 10 or 11 years
ago. And I don't know what you think,
Joe. And again, it's awkward for you
(42:07):
because he's your brother. And but to be, you know, Wiki
keeping for him. He just seems to be getting
better. He has got a better slow ball.
He's got a one that darts in now.
I think he's, you know, probablyspins it no different than he
used to. Would you agree that he has
improved? Yeah, definitely.
I think he would argue that if he had a proper wiki keeper.
(42:29):
I haven't. Well, it would do that because
you don't get on, do you? Yeah, famously.
Yeah, I. Heard last weekend or the
weekend before that that he's actually once said that he'd
rather have Alex and that's his twin sister, I think.
Who? Said that, Jess.
Alex, Alex, Paddy's twin sister Paddy said that he'd rather have
(42:52):
Alex, his twin sister, behind the stumps than than Joe.
I think a few people calling himKlang.
And so he's up to 405 wickets now and taking over finches.
So you're right. Yeah, it's forcing the
standings. So I'll tell you what to be.
Let's get in past Thomas Short because we all love Thomas
Short. We've heard so much about Thomas
(43:13):
from the 1899 seasons, an outstanding player, so let's get
him pushed beyond that. No, Well done.
It's a great achievement along with your brother who's 100
victims as as stumpins. And then we will I will do some
homework over the next couple ofmonths as to where you're up to
(43:33):
Joe with consecutive games and and then and if records you're
breaking will toxic. I'll give you first.
Will anything else you want to ask or you want to discuss
around cricket before we move onto the draw?
No, I don't think so. I think it's all been covered.
Just reiterate what Toxic said. Obviously first doing me as well
and seconds too, so just long may it continue.
(43:56):
Really, everyone should keep working hard and keep winning.
Yeah, no, that's, that's great. I just need to just double check
something. Well, there might have been some
more questions coming before yougo.
Something about the Euro final when you played against Todd and
you came back to watch the the game and and your missus had
(44:17):
been watching first team but shewent home at 10:00 and then Tony
Woodworth had to go out with a search party at 4:00 AM What
what happened then? I think that could have been one
at nights just where I decided that I want to sleep outside
with elements just to try and make sure anger and body
morning. Right.
OK, Yeah. Some stick here will.
(44:37):
I mean, we should give him the opportunity to fire back at
anybody that you would like to hear.
You know, if you you've copped some real grief for you, is
anybody that you'd like to dig out before you go.
No, I think, I think I give as much as I I get do, so I'm happy
to just take it on chin this time all.
Right, OK, fair enough. Your your shout.
Yeah, yeah, especially because it is audio, so we can't see
(44:59):
some of the videos that are flying around as well.
Well, I really appreciate you coming on.
Keep that, keep that form going, keep your standards high.
Keep pushing and pushing. First team you know will come
calling. You know the things will happen,
but keep that second team, you know, no complacency and make
sure you win that league as as early as you can do and get back
(45:22):
in the First Division. So will thanks ever so much for
coming on Topsy. Is there anything you want to
add? Before move on just manage Dutch
been down on step behind the scenes, the work they put in.
People don't see where we are inthem for put together goes to a
position at the moment and you just need to keep going now.
(45:44):
Yeah, that's a great show that talks.
I mean, you mentioned manage there, you know, that's Paul
Stansfield who who does, you know, a lot of work to help Ben
and to help the players. So know that that's that's a
really good show that you know, they're under undervalued.
I think these sorts of players and it's all right having Dan on
and yourself and getting wicketsand run.
(46:05):
So no good work Gooch and everyone else.
They really appreciate that toxic.
Thank you. No.
Worries. Cheers.
Cheers. If you if you want to drop off,
that's fine. We're going to just do.
Yeah, No worries. Thanks.
All right. See you soon, guys.
All right, thank you. Bye.
Bye. Yes, yes.
Thanks for having me. Yeah, well, all right, chaps are
fit The the what could we be called?
(46:25):
Not the famous three, you know, with the Famous 5.
Terrible. Trio.
Terrible trio, yeah, 3 Musketeers, Good laddies.
Well, I don't know if we can getsome of those videos out on the
social, but so let us go on to the June 2025 draw. 4 prizes,
(46:46):
£100.80 pound, 70 LB and 50 LB. I do need to mention a few new
members. We've got Natalie Grieves, who's
joined in the last month or so and she has taken up the number
one. We have got Michael Thomas, who
joined probably two or three months ago and and Michael is
#52 so thanks very much for joining.
(47:08):
Tom Walker, the, the, the fast bowler in the first team keeps
saying he wants to join but never gets back to me.
So I don't know if you can speakto him, Joe Martin, and get him
to, to set something up. His number is 77, right?
OK, he hasn't paid, so he comes out, came to us through whether
he gets it. Well, he don't, does he?
(47:29):
I mean, I've I've heard a whisper that Tom Walker's
tighter than Crown. All right, well, he keeps
mithering me every time. All he keeps saying every time
he sees me at the ground is he takes the Mickey out of our
podcast with his different accents and different.
I'm Joe Martin or someone else going.
You always go to that, you always go to mine.
(47:51):
Jazz and my high pitch wines. It's them that's doing it, it's
these cheeky young first team that are doing it.
Sharon Stansfield, a new joiner. We've got to get Sharon's number
out #106 Stannis still doesn't doesn't know she's in.
And we've got a few other enquiries that are good that are
(48:11):
coming through. So not many numbers left in it.
If people want to join, get yourself in.
So the first prize is £100. Joe, if you can draw, draw me a
number to 177 between 1:00 and 1:00 7/7 please. 100. #100 this
lad has been in for donkeys years but I am I am sitting for
(48:33):
as many. It's a lad called Norman Bennett
who is a really good friend of Roger Brahms.
And when Roger Brahms was working back in the the late
60s, he brought Norman down and two or three other mates of his
and Norman and Deborah used to come out and proper go on the on
the pop watching again. So Norman, thanks very much.
(48:55):
He's still paying after all these years.
I think he's been in for 20 odd years and maybe 25 years next.
Next number please Joe for £80. #143. 143 it's Michelle
Woodworth, it's Reece Woodworth,Mum and been in the draw since
(49:15):
March 20, 2002. Well done. 23 years. 23 years,
yeah, yeah, £70 next one, please.
So some weight in these these numbers departure #154. 154 is
free so there's no one got 154 so please get get your
(49:37):
applications in to get it. Number 94.
Number 94, quite a new joiner. He joined on the 1st of February
2025. It's Anthony Heaton.
Anthony. I don't remember him.
Dukes. Did you ever play with him?
I don't. Think so.
Yeah, Anthony's Jimmy Eaton's lad because watching Burnley a
(49:58):
lot, they don't come down much at all.
Now the other occasion I've seendown there, but it was in fact
it was a was a shout here that he listens to the podcast a lot
and that's how he joined, joinedthe draw.
He didn't realise that we'd continue with the draw.
So he got in touch with Adam andand signed up for the draw.
So well done Anthony, £70 comingto you £50 Joe last one. 100 72.
(50:25):
I can't help. You do.
That's three as well. 172 Three drawing again. #17.
Wow, that's not far off. Mine #17 is Nicky Hope.
It is a couple of weeks since you had a hope pulled out the
(50:47):
draw, so I suppose it's only fair.
Yeah, yeah, again we go back to,I think it was when it started
in November 1999, Nikki joined and I should have known because
17 is his birthday and that's why he picked it.
And I couldn't get my birthday, I had to get next door to it,
which was 23. So well done Nikki, £50 on its
(51:07):
way. Is it, I tell you that Drew
Peacock and emailed him about the draw?
I don't. Think you have no.
He wanted to know why you why you do the biggest prize 1st and
why don't you build? Why don't you start with fourth
prize and go go that way? Is it?
Have you always? He said.
Have you always done it the way that you do it?
We have, yeah. And my rash, I could easily
(51:29):
persuade it to swap it around, but I don't think it's fair that
if you're drawn out early that you don't get that a chance of
winning £100 because your numberdon't go back in, does it?
That would my rationale, but I can persuade it.
I won't. I won't do it.
I won't change it for Drew. He's not even in drawer.
Is this or? No, he's sorry.
Well. Sends a lot.
(51:51):
Of emails. Is it?
Is it a very avid listener? He likes to comment on all sorts
of stuff. I don't read all these emails
out because frankly, some of them are filthy, but I just tell
you the ones. That are relevant maybe if Drew
wants to join and then I'll tellyou what if he does join or she,
and then we can flip it round and we can do the, the the 50 LB
(52:13):
first and do it upside down. I've done a lot of work on the
the spreadsheet for it now and regarding who's who and who's
joined and I double check now who pays and who doesn't pay
because some people do miss the odd month, which is completely
bizarre. So I am checking it a lot more
(52:35):
and maybe I should have an auditor.
Maybe I should, you know, share it with you too, so you can just
double check. There's no fiddling going on.
I don't I. Don't think that's necessary,
Jess. That's good to a Dean Barlow.
Stop paying. But he's coming straight back
into paying again. He's to change his bank and
forgot to move his standing order for two months, so he's
back on paying. He's one.
(52:55):
Hand before. Yeah, yes, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Top lad. So thanks very much.
Anything else that that we need to discuss before we finish the
episode? No, no, it's good work.
You know, as people have said there and and the messages we've
had, you know, the way the crickets going, you know, is
outstanding Dutch. And I know you don't want any
(53:16):
praise or any credit, but great work from you.
The way the pictures are, the way the the club is being run,
Matt Stanley and the rest of thecommittee is is a credit.
Let's keep it going. Let's hope we can get some good
weather back and and hopefully get drawn out for the T20 finals
day if we get there. Of course, some consternation
(53:36):
with some people, but hey Hump, you know, we all know it's done
legitimately so. So let's see how we go.
Joe Martin, anything before I finish?
No dude, Nope. All done.
Thanks very much everyone. Thanks for listening.
We have, we have got a few exciting prospects of some new
sponsors for the podcast, which might enable us to do some not
(53:57):
live streaming, but some video podcasts where we can put them
on on YouTube. But we'll keep you updated with
that as we move on. Morden Morden, send more house
(54:38):
to save the house. Come on, the House.
