Speaker 1 (00:03):
Hi everyone.
I wanted to hop on here and letyou know that how I built my
small business is taking alittle summer break.
Summer is my absolute favoriteseason the sunshine, longer days
and the call to be outdoors andwith family and friends and
with my kids out of school.
This time is feeling extraprecious.

(00:26):
I've also noticed that mycreative drive is shifting in
this season.
For the past year and a half,I've been exclusively reading
more like devouring nonfiction, with an almost unquenchable
thirst for knowledge andstriving to be a better and
better version of myself as thedays go by.
But right now I'm craving theopposite and wanting to sit by

(00:51):
the pool and get consumed with agood fiction read.
When the sun is out like this, sitting at a computer is one of
the last places I really want tobe.
So I'm taking a few weeks torest and reset because in our
hustle driven society, rest isoften undervalued or even shamed

(01:11):
.
But rest is a part of progress.
It's essential to creativity, clarity and sustainability, and
my version of success includesslowing down.
And my version of successincludes slowing down, and
summer is like one big, beautiful seasonal inhale.

(01:32):
This is part of the reason whyI've kept this podcast as a
non-monetized creative project.
I'm not owned by a network andI don't have advertisers to
please, which means I get totake a break because, quite
frankly, I want to.
So I'm giving myself permissionto listen to my body, my mind,

(01:53):
my spirit and to do what feelsbest, and that is to rest and
reset and spend time outdoorswith my family and friends.
Aligning with nature's rhythmcan reconnect us with our own
inner timing, which often knowswhat we need before our calendar
does, and my internal compassis asking for breathing room.

(02:16):
So I'll be back in three weeks,a little more sun kissed, more
relaxed and with more stories toshare with you.
A little more sun-kissed, morerelaxed and with more stories to
share with you.
Until then, feel free to catchup on past episodes you might
have missed, or maybe get offtechnology too and just enjoy
moving your body and gettingoutside.
So here's my gentle nudge foryou If you're anything like me,

(02:40):
you may feel that tug to slowdown, but resist it out of habit
or guilt.
So maybe this is your sign topause too.
Maybe your summer reset lookslike long walks without your
phone, saying no to things thatdeplete you, or picking up a
novel just because it feels goodTo recalibrate your nervous

(03:05):
system, to shift fromproductivity to presence and to
trade doing for being.
Thanks for being here, forlistening and for understanding
the need to reset.
Enjoy the rest of your summer.

Stuff You Should Know
Cardiac Cowboys

Cardiac Cowboys

The heart was always off-limits to surgeons. Cutting into it spelled instant death for the patient. That is, until a ragtag group of doctors scattered across the Midwest and Texas decided to throw out the rule book. Working in makeshift laboratories and home garages, using medical devices made from scavenged machine parts and beer tubes, these men and women invented the field of open heart surgery. Odds are, someone you know is alive because of them. So why has history left them behind? Presented by Chris Pine, CARDIAC COWBOYS tells the gripping true story behind the birth of heart surgery, and the young, Greatest Generation doctors who made it happen. For years, they competed and feuded, racing to be the first, the best, and the most prolific. Some appeared on the cover of Time Magazine, operated on kings and advised presidents. Others ended up disgraced, penniless, and convicted of felonies. Together, they ignited a revolution in medicine, and changed the world.
