How To Move The Stars is the day by day retelling of a bicycle ride around the world. Start from the beginning to get the whole story.

My adventure was a modern day epic, a solo, self-supported bicycle ride spanning 38,000 miles across six continents. There were moments I barely survived, and times I cried tears of joy, but mostly, this is a story about the thousands of people I met along the way.  I moved through their cultures, and dramatic landscapes. I ate their food and slept on their land. I was constantly arriving to the open arms of strangers who were excited to help me achieve a feat that few could imagine. I did this for years, immersing myself in the world and meeting the people who live here. The story I returned with is a snapshot of humanity, captured in a lived experience. Thank you for joining me on my journey.

June 1st, 2013 Avoiding the rainin Russia.
This morning from my hammock I saw beautiful Reds and pinks
swirling low over the horizon. I watched until I fell asleep
again. When I woke a second time, the
sun was up and I was already sweating.
I followed the flat, quiet Rd. past expansive fields and

patches of forest. The many shades of green beamed
in the bright sunlight. Small towns came and went.
Every hour I tracked the weatherdrifting across the wide open
landscape, and in the early afternoon I spotted a
thunderstorm coming my way just as the rain started the fall.
I tie my tarp to the low branch of a tree, then huddled beneath.

(00:44):
Lightning cracked overhead and Islowly became soaked as the rain
came down on my makeshift shelter.
Once a storm passed, I started down the road only to see the
rain change direction and come at me a second time.
I raced to keep ahead of the downpour before pulling into an
empty bus shelter. While the rain fell, I was
content to wait. The time was peaceful in a way.

(01:07):
I sat for hours with nothing to do and doing nothing.
When the last few drops of rain had rung from the sky, I left
the bus stop to ride late into the evening.
I peddled hard in the wake of the storm, riding the wave of
air being sucked along behind, splashing through puddles the
whole way. As I've been going north in the

summer solstice approaches, I have significantly more daylight
than when I started in February. The sun is up for 10 hours and
45 minutes. Today I had 17 hours of
daylight. I was able to pedal late into
the evening, almost at 10:00 PM,and with the last bit of light I
pulled into a farm field to hangmy hammock in a dark patch of

trees.
