How To Move The Stars is the day by day retelling of a bicycle ride around the world. Start from the beginning to get the whole story.

My adventure was a modern day epic, a solo, self-supported bicycle ride spanning 38,000 miles across six continents. There were moments I barely survived, and times I cried tears of joy, but mostly, this is a story about the thousands of people I met along the way.  I moved through their cultures, and dramatic landscapes. I ate their food and slept on their land. I was constantly arriving to the open arms of strangers who were excited to help me achieve a feat that few could imagine. I did this for years, immersing myself in the world and meeting the people who live here. The story I returned with is a snapshot of humanity, captured in a lived experience. Thank you for joining me on my journey.

(00:00):
June 11th, 2013. A quiet day.
I slept well last night, but apparently not enough again
today. I needed to hang my hammock for
a long afternoon nap. I feel as if I'm recovering from
a soul level wariness brought onby the exhausting pace of the
American lifestyle out here. I sleep as much as I need to

(00:21):
feel recovered, something the hustle culture would construe as
laziness. I never suspected that bicycling
around the world would be more restful than living in society.
After sleeping for five hours, Igot back on the road to bicycle
into the evening. The air had cooled and traffic
was light. I was enjoying the ride when a
Shard, a broken mirror, pierced my trailer tire.

(00:45):
I patched the tube in front of abus stop where one young boy
waited by himself. He watched in silence for 1/2
hour as I took off my bags, removed the wheel, then the
tire. I found the hole in the tube
glued on a patch, then put everything back together.
When I left, I waved goodbye to him, but he just kept staring.

(01:05):
The sun was getting low when I pulled into a stretch of forest
to spend the night. The black flies have gone, but
there were so many mosquitoes I had to zip myself into my
hammock to eat dinner. Lying down, the warm part of
rice felt good on my chest. I ate slowly and watched as the
stars poked through the fading twilight.
