Born and raised in New Britain, Connecticut, Dr. Edwards has dedicated his career to advancing education and leadership development. He has worked extensively with K-12 schools, taught at the collegiate level, and founded the Rory T. Edwards Group, a platform for empowering leaders and communities.
As President of the New Britain NAACP for 11 years, Dr. Edwards championed youth mentorship, led policy advocacy efforts, and represented Connecticut at the U.S. Congress Summit on Policy-Based Dialogue for African American leaders.
During President Obama's administration, Dr. Edwards' "Once a Man, Twice a Child" Academy earned him the opportunity to collaborate with developers of the My Brother's Keeper initiative. He also played a pivotal role in establishing charter schools across six states, including co-founding the Cross-Cultural Academy of Arts and Technology Charter School in Hartford, CT. His contributions to the nationally recognized Amistad Academy, praised by U.S. Secretary of Education Rod Paige, further reflect his commitment to educational excellence.
A recognized figure in athletics and academia, Dr. Edwards has advised professional athletes and authored several books, including The Man That’s Missing in Me. His current projects focus on racial unity, support systems, and social change, underscoring his enduring dedication to building resilient communities and empowering future leader.
