Evy: A Leader, Advocate, and Champion for Community

In the corporate world, Evy is a seasoned Human Resources professional with over 15 years of experience, having contributed her expertise to esteemed institutions like Duke Hospital and UNC Hospital. While she has built a successful career in HR, her true passion lies in uplifting and empowering others—turning life’s challenges into opportunities for growth and advocacy.

To truly understand Evy, one must delve into her story, shaped by resilience and purpose. In 2013, her world shifted when her mother was diagnosed with a rare form of ovarian cancer. As her mother’s primary caregiver, Evy navigated the complexities of the healthcare system, an experience that exposed her to the stark disparities minorities face in medical care. This realization resurfaced years later when she found herself fiercely advocating for her own son’s medical needs and access to critical resources. The loss of her mother in 2014 was a profound test of her strength, but it also ignited a deeper sense of purpose within her.

Motherhood further deepened her awareness of the unique struggles faced by women of color. Recognizing the need for a safe, supportive space for minority mothers, Evy co-founded Dear Brown Mama, a thriving online community that has grown to over 700 members. What began as a simple Facebook group has blossomed into a movement, offering resources, encouragement, and a strong sense of belonging to mothers who often feel overlooked. Her vision is to expand this network, bridging connections between mothers, local businesses, and professional resources to create a lasting impact.

Beyond her roles as an HR professional, dedicated mother, and relentless advocate, Evy understands the importance of self-care. She finds balance through fitness, running, and embracing joy in the little things—whether it's hitting the pavement, unwinding by the pool, discovering new wines, or simply making lasting memories with her son. Her journey is one of resilience, transformation, and unwavering commitment to community.

Evy isn’t just surviving—she’s thriving.
