Speaker 1 (00:19):
What's going on? Everyone? Emily Abadi here, you are listening
to Five Minute Friday. Can you do me a favor
if you're listening to this right now? I'm talking to
all of the thousands of you that listen to five
Minute Friday and Hurdle on the regular. I want you
to make sure that you're following Hurdle on social over
on Instagram at Hurdle podcast, and it would make my

(00:44):
day if you would either tag Hurdle on Instagram, show
some love to the show over there, or send me
a note over on email over at Hello at Hurdle
dot us. Let me know what keeps you coming back.
I'm confid in this period of reflecting and asking myself

(01:04):
what's working and what's not working, And I know that
there are so many dedicated community members out there that
can help me on this journey. So all of this
is me saying to you, hey, I could use your help.
What are you liking, what's feeling good, what's resonating? And
spread the goodness that is Hurdle. That's my little PSA

(01:26):
for the week. I want to tell you about something
that I did earlier this week on Tuesday. I believe
so I have this personal rule, and the rule is
that if I am sending someone an email and it
is outside what many consider to be conventional work hours,
I schedule send the email for the following day, unless

(01:48):
it's something that's urgent. I was doing this earlier this
week and struggling a little bit, if I'm being honest,
just about gosh, what's going on with work lately? It
feels as though for me, I am in this pattern
of banging my head against the wall. And I know

(02:10):
that it's only temporary, and I believe that there is
so much goodness on the way, but things have just
been a little lonely in the world of Emily A
Body LLC. And so with that said, I made a
choice that I know already I am so much better for.

(02:32):
I made the choice to schedule send ten emails to
myself that will arrive over the next two months. And
the body of these emails, it's nothing game changing. It
is truly like, hey, you're doing a great job. That's
the entire body of one email. Another email is remember

(02:55):
when you wanted what you have now? I believe A
third one says do good and good will come to you.
I'll say that again. Do good and good will come
to you. And I scheduled ten of these let's call
them affirmative emails to arrive in my inbox before the

(03:16):
end of March. Sometimes we all need a little boost, right,
and I found that I had the opportunity to provide
that for myself. We each have the opportunity to be
our own biggest hype human. There are going to be
days where you don't feel so shiny and grey, and
so I understand that it is within my power to

(03:39):
show up for myself, and that when I show up
for myself, when I believe in what it is that
I have to offer, then the universe shows up for
me in return. And so, yeah, I scheduled those ten emails.
It might sound a little silly, and you know what,
I'm okay with that because I received the first one

(04:01):
earlier today and it put a smile on my face
and what an awesome moment. That was a moment that
reminded me exactly what I bring to the table. And
so my prompter you this week. Maybe you don't want
to schedule ten emails, and that's totally fine. I respect that,
But what is one positive thing that you can praise

(04:24):
yourself for right now. What is one good thing that
happened to you in the last twenty four hours. How
can you be your own biggest hype person in this moment?
Don't overthink it. That's where we get caught up. Okay,
and now a listener question. Hi, Emily, my name is Pfeiffer.

(04:44):
I'm a longtime listener of the show, but I've never
sent in a question before. I really admire the way
that you go about your solo adventures, and I'm especially
loving hearing about the new things you're doing in twenty
twenty five. Thank you. I am single and recently can't
seem to get comfortable with the idea of doing things
on my own, even though I really really want to.

(05:06):
Do you have any advice on where to begin? Thank
you so much for taking the time to read this.
Keep hurtling. Okay, this is a good one, and honestly,
this is the kind of question that comes in a
lot through my DMS as well. I want to reiterate
that I didn't really get comfortable with the idea of
spending time on my own outside of living on my

(05:26):
own for some times. In fact, I remember the first
time that I went on a solo vacation. I cried
on my way to the airport. I was so nervous.
With that said, I would say start small. So something
like going out to dinner on your own might feel intimidating.
It all might feel intimidating, but going out to dinner

(05:47):
on your own requires you to buffer against other people
if you will, whereas going on a solo date to
the movies might feel a little bit more accessible. You're
in a dark room, you don't have to think about
other people looking at you, and you're doing an activity.
You are occupied in that moment, So meet yourself with

(06:07):
where you're at. If you're starting, just to spend time
on your own, and I would recommend beginning with a
movie and then segue into I'm going to spend an
hour or two at a coffee shop reading perhaps, or
I'm going to my favorite restaurant to sit at the
bar and enjoy a meal and then also read or journal.

(06:32):
That would be my secondary tip to all of this
is if you're out in the world on your own,
enjoying an experience, enjoying your surroundings, that's all find and good,
but do yourself a favor and bring something like a book,
a kindle, a journal, so that you're not sitting there
solo on your phone. I find that when you are

(06:54):
in the space of looking at your device and perhaps
scrolling through social media, we get into a viral of
perhaps comparison, and that is the last thing you want
during your solo time. This is time that should fill
up your cup, that should make you feel like the
badass human that you are, and content and good. So

(07:17):
those are my two beginner tips. As always, I'm hunting
your listener questions. Like I said at the top of
this episode, I want your feedback. I want to know
what you like. I want to know that you are
here with me, So hit me on Instagram over at
Hurdle Podcast, or shoot us an email over at Hello
at Hurdle dot us. I'm also over at Emily a

(07:38):
Body another Hurdle conquered. Catch you guys next time.

Ruthie's Table 4

Ruthie's Table 4

For more than 30 years The River Cafe in London, has been the home-from-home of artists, architects, designers, actors, collectors, writers, activists, and politicians. Michael Caine, Glenn Close, JJ Abrams, Steve McQueen, Victoria and David Beckham, and Lily Allen, are just some of the people who love to call The River Cafe home. On River Cafe Table 4, Rogers sits down with her customers—who have become friends—to talk about food memories. Table 4 explores how food impacts every aspect of our lives. “Foods is politics, food is cultural, food is how you express love, food is about your heritage, it defines who you and who you want to be,” says Rogers. Each week, Rogers invites her guest to reminisce about family suppers and first dates, what they cook, how they eat when performing, the restaurants they choose, and what food they seek when they need comfort. And to punctuate each episode of Table 4, guests such as Ralph Fiennes, Emily Blunt, and Alfonso Cuarón, read their favourite recipe from one of the best-selling River Cafe cookbooks. Table 4 itself, is situated near The River Cafe’s open kitchen, close to the bright pink wood-fired oven and next to the glossy yellow pass, where Ruthie oversees the restaurant. You are invited to take a seat at this intimate table and join the conversation.
