Speaker 1 (00:21):
What's going on everyone? Emily body here you are listening
to five minute Friday from Hurdle. Happy Valentine's Day. I
might be the person, the first person that said that
to you today. Maybe I'm not, but I want to
talk a little bit about my journey with this holiday today.
I can't tell you the last time that I had

(00:43):
an actual Valentine, as in like a romantic partner on
Valentine's Day. Actually, that's a lie, I can I'm pretty
sure it was maybe like twenty fourteen, twenty fifteen. I
was dating someone and I came home from work on
Valentine's Day and he was in my apartment. He had

(01:05):
been let in by my roommate at the time, and
he was making chocolate covered strawberries in the kitchen, and
he had bought me as a gift for Valentine's Day
a ladle, which was a practical gift in that I
needed a ladle at the time. But in retrospect, I
can say that without a doubt, it was not the
gift I was that I was hoping for. Oh my god,

(01:30):
I'm just having a time thinking back to this Valentine's
Day still, Okay, So that was I don't know nine
ten years ago, and I have a positive association with
the day. Regardless. I know a lot of people are
or may feel some kind of way about this hallmark holiday,

(01:52):
but I feel as though, what an awesome time it
is for us to think on and focus on the
good things that love brings into our lives. Especially over
the last handful of years. I would say, throughout my thirties,

(02:14):
I have come into my own with self love and
practically feeling so much appreciation for what it is that
I bring to the table and how hard it is
some days simply to just show up and be right.
Every year on Valentine's Day, I have the same tradition,

(02:38):
which is, after whatever morning workout that I do today,
I have mile repeats, which I'm not so much looking
forward to. After my morning workout, I then take myself
to get a donut. And for years it was the
same Dunkin Donuts heart shaped donut. Last year I upgraded

(02:59):
and I went to a donut plant Valentine's Day appropriate
donut if you know you know. And so I do
the same tradition every year, and I take myself to
get this donut and I either eat it wherever I am,
or bring it home and I sit there and I
really do intentionally think about all the love that I
have in my life. I said this in my recording

(03:21):
with Diego earlier this week. If you haven't listened to
the Young Quabo episode, I highly highly encourage it. Love
is the foundation for so much in our lives, specifically
a foundation for aspects of our health and well being
as well. If you want love, you have to bring

(03:42):
love into your day to day. So even though maybe
you're going through something right now, and trust me, we
all are. I see you. You are not alone in
your struggles, yeah, but recognize that there is light to
be seen, joy to be seen, love to be found
in every single day. And so yeah, do I think

(04:03):
that we need one specific day each year to commemorate that?
Absolutely not. I believe that love is a twenty four
to seven process and thing to embrace. But I value
this day because maybe it is a little bit of
a reminder, especially in the times that feel turbulent and
chaotic and all of the things right. And so my

(04:25):
prompt for you this week on Valentine's Day is what
is one thing that you love about yourself? And one
decision that you've made thus far in twenty twenty five
that you also love. What is one thing that you
love about yourself and one decision that you've made in

(04:46):
twenty twenty five that you love as well? As you're
thinking about this today, tag me on Instagram, tag the
show over at Hurdle Podcast, and you know where to
find me. I'm over at Emily a Body. And before
I get into this week's listener question, let's see if
dy here's this buried in the episode. A happy happy
birthday to my stepmom Kathy A Valentine's Day baby. I

(05:08):
love you very very much. And now a listener question.
Hey Emily Tory here. I know this is a little
weird to ask, but I follow you on Instagram and
really feel inspired by your content. My question for you
this week is do you ever take a rest day?
Oh goodness, I'm not trying to be rude. I'm just

(05:28):
genuinely curious. You're always on the move and it's admirable,
but I'm wondering how rest days play into your weekly schedule.
Thanks so much, love the show, Toy Toy Toy. It's
a great question. Yes, I take rest days. I will
say this My rest days are often active recovery days,
and so what that looks like in my case is

(05:49):
either a super long walk or perhaps going to a
yoga class. It is pretty rare that I don't do
some sort of movement during the day. I am currently
on almost a year long streak of closing my rings,
which that excitement about movement encourages me not to be

(06:09):
a total couch dweller on a Sunday. My rest days
aren't always on Sundays. I have had them on Thursdays
or on Tuesdays. It just depends when I holistically sit
down and plan my week and look at the workouts
what makes sense for me and my body. Right now,
my training is four days a week of running and
four days a week of strength, and then I slip

(06:30):
in a yoga class here and there, and so yes,
as you can tell if you can do math, some
days I will do both strength and running on the
same day. And typically that's a day when I have
some sort of an easy run, like it's run a
five k, and then do a thirty minute strength workout.
And so I pair them responsibly with the help of

(06:52):
my strength coach and really dial in on what feels
best for me and my body. Now, I want to
make sure that I reiterate here everyone is different, and
so I'm not going to sit here and encourage everyone
to handle their rest days like I handle my rest days.
I have a very firm understanding of what feels good
for me, and some other individuals might feel better by

(07:15):
taking a total incomplete rest day one or two days
a week, or three days a week, or again, whatever
works for you and your body. I would just encourage you,
depending on what your goals are, to talk to someone
in a one on one capacity to plan out what
that structure could look like for you and what would
be best again for you and your goals. And that's it.

(07:37):
I hope that's helpful. Make sure you're following along with
us over on Hurdle and I want your listener questions,
so email them over at Hello at Hurdle dot us.
Again that Instagram at Hurdle podcast. I'm over at Emily
a Body. Happy love day, y'all. I appreciate you. Catch
