We've had some issues in ourlocal city where a gunman tried
to end the lives of some friendsof mine.
And if you are in the news andyou get to watch this and you

couple times.
He has been an advocate, a hugeadvocate, for persons with
disabilities.
He is a a Health and HumanServices Director Chair.
So I mean he's kind of a bigdeal.
Last night at about 2 o'clock inthe morning I mean you're sure

you're seeing all the news, butthis is going to be my rendition
of it.
And again, we hang out on aregular basis and I'll tell you
what this is really kind of athing.
So I'm trying to get throughthis episode to pay him honor,
his family honor and the otherHortmans' honor as well.
It's about 2 in the morning.
A gunman came to the residenceof Senator John Hoffman.

I don't know the particularsyet.
He's still in intensive care.
She got out of ICU yesterdayand was shot three times.
I don't know how many bulletsJohn had sustained.
I do see that the news reportshave bullet holes going through
their front door.
About seven of them is what Icounted.

She took three in the stomach.
Again, I don't know how many hetook and where the other ones
went, I don't know.
The single gunman decided thathe didn't like the way, as far
as I know, and then there'sreports, like everyone else gets
the same data.
He didn't like the way.
John voted for something on theomnibus bill in the state of
Minnesota at the Senate level.
So whoever this guy is, I meanwe have suspects.

We don't know nothing quite yet.
I mean they're pretty sure.
I mean the city of Champlins,dotted with the Flock camera
systems which I was a hugeproponent for in both cities of
mine and where I work.
I can only imagine that withthe AI camera systems that Flock
imposes it's a very high-techcamera.
You can say I want to see everycar that has a plate that

starts with an L, or it sayspolice, or it has a roof rack,
or it's a white car, it's a bluecar.
Whatever you want to say in theAI function of this camera, it

I do know that Champlin hasthree, four of them at all,
major intersections, which wouldbe an egress and or degress
from John's place of residenceto his next victim's house,

You would have to take thispath, and I know there's a
camera on that road.
This assailant, from what Iunderstand, has a police vehicle
like an ex-governmentcarscomthing, where you buy up an old
squad and you do this, you canhave lights around it.

So I don't know where thismunicipality or this government
agency got rid of this car.
It was a Ford product.
It had license plates that saidpolice.
He was dressed in full tackuniform.
He had a vest with a cross drawon it.
If you're not weapons people, across draw is if your strong

hand is your right, then youcross across your chest to grab
a left-handed mounted weaponwhich you'll never use with your
left hand and vice versa, and aside arm which is also strapped
to the leg.
Typical operator entrymaterials you would get as a
tactical officer, as a specialforces officer or whatever

I mean, it's all stuffeverywhere, get it anywhere.
I don't know if he was wearinga bulletproof vest no one would

So I can only imagine there wasenough time for everyone to get
up and find out what's going on.

I mean a forceful entry, pushback, because you don't shoot
through a door unless the dooris either closed or got closed
on you.

But he shot through the door.
At that point nobody quite knowswhat's going on.
Then he goes over to theHartman's residence, which is

about three miles, four milesmaybe, from the Hoffman
residence.
I would imagine this assailantlearned some things at the first
stop.
Maybe he didn't get enough time, maybe you know who knows Gets
in the driveway, turns thelights on, impersonating

Hortman's, come down to thefront door, the assailant gains
entry there, he shoots them andagain there's something we don't
know.
We'll never know what's goingon on the inside.
Only the police would have thatkind of rough idea of how
things were and the way it kindof laid out.
But then, as reported by thenews, he exited the house At

that point because the Hoffmanresidents were under police
lockdown.
The police chief of Champlinsays, hey, we should probably go
check on the next local staterepresentative, state employee.
You know the policymakers ofour city and state and
government.
Oddly enough, as they roll upthey see the lights on this

ex-police car and they thought,okay, I mean, what else do you
think?
But there's someone alreadyhere and as soon as they pulled
up, I guess the assailantstarted gunfire towards the
police.
At that point they knew he wasthe perpetrator.
The assailant went back into theHortman's house I don't know
(08:27):
for how long.
He gets out of the back of itand is on the run.
I mean, at this point he'sgotten through the house, he's
out the back.
They're calling for backup.
I'd imagine there's only two ofthem.
I mean you can't really coverboth sides until you have the
time and he leaves.
The rest is kind of like in thenews.
But I want to make you know onething really ultra clear at this

point.
I've known John for a number ofyears.
I don't know the Hartmans.
They were scheduled to be onthe show.
I was hoping to get him on theshow and it just never got
together.
It was something that just kindof happened.
It was, you know, everybodyknows we're a very political
show, political show.
And, to be clear, john was aproponent for the 2A.
He wasn't against guns at all.

I mean, because we always hadthis thing about.
You know, it's never a gunissue, it's a mental health
issue and this perpetratorobviously wasn't in his right
mind.
He decided that for some reason, the way they voted went
against his moral compass and hedecided he was going to clean
the plate, so to say.

But let's go back to the actual2A thing Again.
I've been shooting with John.
He's a great shot, he's all forresponsible gun ownership and
this was obviously something wayoutside.
I hope he still has that samestance, because what a tragic
thing to go through.

I can't even begin to thinkabout how, in your own home,
being violated at gunpoint,disabling your wife, aiming for
your child and shooting you atthe same, you know, with the
same altercation.
I mean it's, I don't know, it'sa tough one, it's a very tough
one.
But I want you to take a momentto think about your egress and
degress in your home.

If you were in the situation.
You see lights out front.
Of course we all respect thepolice at that point and we're
going to say, okay, you knowsomething's going on.
We got to open the door, we'vegot to talk to them.
I mean, is it that point whereyou don't just open the door and
say, hey, what's going on?
I mean, would you go to thedoor with a weapon in your hand?
I mean, I think you know, ifeverybody has a close proximity

to their protection, is it notthat?
thing, you know, as a bigstaunch gun guy myself, I don't
even travel without, I don't goto the store without.
But in your own home it's kindof a different thing.
You have this sense of security, this thing that thinks, hey,
you know, you're kind ofuntouchable in your own fortress

It makes you rethink that idea.
And a lot of people say theyhome carry, I don't know, I
don't know about that.
Lot of people say they homecarry, I don't know.
Do you want to be aroundeverything all day with a weapon
on your hip or shoulder orholster or whatever it is?
I mean, it seems like a heck ofa gig to be like dealing with.

So this leaves a lot ofquestions in everyone's mind.
Of course, our main function isto protect our own at every
cost, and I'm sure John did thatby the altercation at the front
door.
But see, they have these thingscalled combat multipliers.
The combat multiplier is anysituation where if you bring a

slingshot, I'm going to bring abat, if you bring a bat, I'm
going to bring a bigger bat.
And then it gets to the pointwhere now I got a gun and you
got a bazooka.
Eventually you're going to runout of hardware.
Eventually that's going to bethe end of what's going on.
Then you have to have thetactical advantage, the surprise
, the combat of being able toreact instead of reaction.

But this guy knew this tacticaladvantage.

kind of like a light blue, Atleast the ones I've seen in blue

He gets his vest, he covers upthe chest of himself, he's got
his cross draw, he's got his hipholster or weapon, but

reportedly at the Hortman housethe neighbors heard gunshots.
Here's where I'm going withthis.
If you can get all this stuffand you've planned this and
you're in the security mode ofthings, and if he had this list,
which the news is saying he'shad a, he had a kill list and he
thought all this stuff out, whywouldn't you have a silencer?

The can is a silencer, so hegoes and makes all this noise
without a can on there.
He wants to go to the next onhis list without a can on there,
Eventually, other than thepolice catching up and alerting
all the House of Representativesand the senators of the state

Why didn't he plan that?

senators made at the lastomnibus bill was not too long

I mean, you got kids, you goton that night.
They were supposed to havefireworks.
Now imagine the kind of coveryou would have if you were in
the crowd.

Wow, You're in the crowd,fireworks going off.
You could literally shoot intoa group of people and no one

You'd be right next to this guyand he's shooting and you
wouldn't know it.
But if you can't figure out thecan process, I don't know if
you would have thought of that.
And really it was more targetedtowards political people versus
anybody.
But people like that arementally stable.
At one point does he run out ofopportunity and finds a target,

rich opportunity like afestival or a.
You know, you can't.
It's a mental health issue.
This is not a gun issue.
There's something in this guy'shead.
It snapped.
You ain't going to figure itout, You're going to fix it.
You just got to contain theseguys.
The left's going to say, oh,we're going to do more gun
control, we're going to do thisagain.

Brooklyn Park area anymore.
