Speaker 1 (00:00):
If you have ever thought, man, I am just not good
at taking supplements, thisepisode is for you, because
we're going to talk about whatquestions I want you to ask
yourself as you put togetheryour supplement plan so that you
can actually be effective atcompleting it and make sure that
you are taking the supplementsthat will be helpful for you in
getting you closer to yourconsistent period goals or your

(00:24):
regular easy digestion goals.
Thank you for listening to thisepisode of I'm Hormonal.
I'm your host, bridget Walton, women's Hormone Coach, and, as
always, I'm putting togetherthese episodes for you because I
hear a lot of the same ideasfrom clients that I work with or
other women that I talk to, andone that keeps coming up is,

(00:47):
like I talked about earlier thisweek, one man I'm just really
taking all the supplements.
I don't know why it's notfixing my problem.
Well, listen to the earlierepisode this week if that feels
like you, because I talked alittle bit more about why
supplements shouldn't be thetool that you are leaning on
100%.
We'll get into that a littlebit more about why supplements
shouldn't be the tool that youare leaning on 100%.
We'll get into that a littlebit more here in a second help

(01:10):
you make a plan.
The second thing that I hearall the time is like Bridget, I
have just never been consistentat taking supplements.
It's not something that I feellike I'm good at, so we are
going to get ahead of that andsay, okay, how can we put in
more of a foolproof plan so thatyou can get the most out of

(01:30):
your supplements when you aretaking the ones that are right
for you?
So first let's talk about threequestions that you can ask
yourself as you are selecting asupplement.
First question I want you toask yourself is supplement?
First question I want you toask yourself is why am I taking
this supplement and what am Iexpecting out of it?
It might seem obvious, but thisis actually a really good

(01:51):
reflection question to ask.
I even ask myself thissometimes, where I'm like, oh,
let me take some CoQ10 because Iknow that's like good for a
thing.
But then I take a step back andI say, okay, what is my
specific health goal that isdriving me to take this thing,

(02:11):
and what is the change that I'mexpecting, that I'm hoping to
see once I take it?
Because those two questions, taken a beat to think logically
about it will help you make surethat you are A picking the
right tool that can suit you and, b you know what you want to
look for as far as changes go.
So you know like, okay, shouldI do this again?

(02:33):
Should I get another bottle?
Did this help me at all or didthis make no change?
So that's the first question Iwant you to ask yourself.
The second question that you canask yourself is what can I do
with nutrition to support thissame goal or expectation?
So, if your goal in the firstpart of this first question was

(02:56):
to maybe support more stableblood sugar levels, great.
The second question here whatcan I do related to nutrition to
support this goal.
Well, let me put in place someblood sugar supporting tools.
This is because, like Imentioned earlier, you don't
want to be only relying onsupplements.

(03:17):
Supplements can be very helpfultools, but you also need to be
making the diet and lifestylechanges that will help you to
accomplish your goals.
It's gonna be a lifestyle shift.
That doesn't mean that it hasto be hard, but those are the
things that will also help youto move the needle.
The third question that I wantyou to ask yourself is this what

(03:38):
information made me believethat my body, that my health,
needs this supplement?
Okay, what information or whatsource made me believe that I
need this particular supplementto support my health goals?
Of course, there are manywell-intentioned manufacturers

(04:00):
or other businesses out thereselling supplements.
That can be the case, and itcan also be the case that some
companies' branding andmarketing look so good and juicy
and I'm like I want to be apart of that culture or I want
to have the same experience thatI see other people having with

(04:21):
it.
Now I think it's just a goodopportunity to take a step back
and say, outside of, what thisspecific company or brand or
manufacturer is saying aboutthis product, what are other
people saying about this vitaminor mineral or adaptogen?
What are they saying about thisparticular probiotic?

(04:44):
Just getting that layer deeperabout why do I think that I need
this in the first place?
Because that will also helpinform?
Okay, is this think that I needthis in the first place because
that will also help inform?
Okay, is this something that Ireally need or is this just the
first thing that you know?
Chat chippy tea recommended tome and so I'm just like, okay,
let me try this quick win herenow.

(05:05):
In my work with my one-on-oneclients, we are almost always
incorporating supplements in astrategic and targeted way to
get the client closer to herhormone and digestive goals.
That being said, one of thereasons why my clients can be so
effective in taking theirsupplements regularly is because

(05:25):
we create a very clear andtime-bound plan for them to take
these supplements.
It's not something where I'mlike, hey, yeah, take this
supplement indefinitely.
It's not something where it'slike, oh well, yeah, just take
this, you know, until I don'tknow, until you feel different.

(05:46):
Right, we're creating aspecific plan to say, you need
to take this at x, y, z times ofday or times in the week.
You are going to be taking itfor four weeks or six weeks or
12 weeks, however that bestsuits their individual goals and
their individual body, and whenyou have that type of structure

(06:07):
around a plan, that's reallygoing to increase your
likelihood of completing it.
It also doesn't hurt that, ofcourse, I'm going to be asking
them each week or every otherweek when we talk in our live
sessions about how it's going, how they're doing with their
consistency.
So that accountabilitystructure also has its little

(06:27):
bit of magic that it adds to.
But something that you can doat home by yourself is create
this plan for yourself.
Don't make taking magnesium anindefinite thing.
Say, okay, what is the outcome, what is the change that I'm
expecting from this, and howlong am I going to do this for,

(06:47):
and then you can reassess to seeif it's something that you do
want to continue on with.
The last note that I want toleave you with for today is on
more of a mindset topic, because, again, I hear women all the
time saying I just can never beconsistent with no-transcript.
Sure, if you continue to saythat, if you continue to tell

(07:08):
yourself that you aren't goodwith supplements, then you will
continue to prove yourself right.
So language is important.
The way that you talk toyourself is important and is
powerful.
If you want to be consistentwith supplements because you
know what you expect from it,you know why you're taking it,
you know how it can help youhave more consistent periods,

(07:32):
have less painful periods, haveless PMS, then you are going to
commit to it and the way thatyou talk to yourself is
important and that's somethingthat you can change for free
with very little barrier toentry right now.
So don't underestimate howimportant that is.

(07:55):
That is really all I've got foryou today in this mini episode.
This is exactly the kind ofintentional planning that I go
through with my one-on-oneclients, and it's something I'm
going to be talking more aboutin my upcoming free training,
that is, on September 23rd.

Cardiac Cowboys

Cardiac Cowboys

The heart was always off-limits to surgeons. Cutting into it spelled instant death for the patient. That is, until a ragtag group of doctors scattered across the Midwest and Texas decided to throw out the rule book. Working in makeshift laboratories and home garages, using medical devices made from scavenged machine parts and beer tubes, these men and women invented the field of open heart surgery. Odds are, someone you know is alive because of them. So why has history left them behind? Presented by Chris Pine, CARDIAC COWBOYS tells the gripping true story behind the birth of heart surgery, and the young, Greatest Generation doctors who made it happen. For years, they competed and feuded, racing to be the first, the best, and the most prolific. Some appeared on the cover of Time Magazine, operated on kings and advised presidents. Others ended up disgraced, penniless, and convicted of felonies. Together, they ignited a revolution in medicine, and changed the world.
