The thought "I've already tried everything" is likely holding you back from seeing real progress with your hormone and gut health. By examining five foundational questions, you can refresh your perspective and identify what's actually preventing healing rather than continuing to apply band-aid solutions.

Speaker 1 (00:01):
Hi and thanks for listening to.
I'm Hormonal.
This is episode number 123.
I'm your host, Bridget Walton, women's hormone coach, and on
this mini episode today we'regoing to be talking a little bit
more about this thought thatmany of you may have, that I've
had in the past, where you feellike, dang, I've tried

(00:23):
everything.
I've tried that already.
I've tried everything that Iknow to try to get my period
back on track, to get myhormones back in balance, to get
my gut health back in balance, whatever it is for you.
But all of this is to say thatthought those four words of I've

(00:43):
already tried everything it'sprobably not a thought that is
serving you.
It's likely a thought that isholding you back from seeing
more progress and seeing changethat you want to see.
In the longer episode, you heardme get really in depth on this.
I gave you some suggestions forwhat you might want to think

(01:05):
about, what you might want toconsider if you have
unpredictable periods, bloatingor acne.
What we're going to do in thismini episode is run through the
five foundational questions thatI think are important to come
back to again when you feel likeyou've tried everything and you
need to refresh your view.

(01:26):
So, regardless of why you'relistening if you came here
because of your bloating or acne, your periods, your PMS, you're
going to get something out ofthis for sure, because these are
some good reminders of hey, howcan we take a step back, how
can I look at what I've beendoing, what has or has not

(01:46):
worked, and learn from it andobserve what is going to be the
next best place to go.
So question number one that Iwant you to think through and if
you're listening and you havethe opportunity to pause, put
some notes in your phone, writesomething down, then go ahead
and do so.
If not, maybe you want to comeback to this episode a little

(02:08):
bit later.
But question number one, I wantyou to think about what your
stress is like.
So what is my stress like?
Am I adding more stress onto mylist, onto my whole stress load
, by just doing more and more?
And remember that you need toconsider things like, yes, your

(02:29):
emotional or mental stress, butalso things like your intake of
processed foods, your bloodsugar stability or instability,
any chemical or endocrinedisruptor exposure, your sugar,
your caffeine, your alcoholintake.
How much sleep are you getting?
So this is to say there aremore types of stress, more

(02:51):
stress inputs than just what'sgoing on, how many emails you
have, how many texts you need torespond to.
There are other sources ofstress that can also drive up
your cortisol.
The reason why this is thefirst question is because stress
will absolutely have a bigimpact on your digestion as well
as on your hormones.
So if this is, you know, on ascale from one to 10, if you're

(03:13):
at higher than probably a six,at a six or higher, then really
taking a beat to say, okay, howcan I take something off my
plate?
You know that's going to be thebest, or one of the best,
places to start.
The next question I want you tothink about, ask yourself is
how can I explore the root causeof what is causing my period or

(03:38):
digestive problems?
Right, Sometimes we just getburned out on hacks and that
makes sense, because hacks arealmost never addressing the
underlying issue.
Right?
If something sounds too good tobe true, it probably is.
There's likely not going to beone or two or three supplements

(04:01):
out there.
It's not going to be just onechange to your diet, one change
to your exercise routine.
You see where I'm going with it.
That gives you all of theresults that you want.
It's taking that step back tosay what is the most basic,
foundational issue that iscausing this cascade of issues

(04:25):
or challenges that you want tocorrect.
This is something that I focuson with all of my one-on-one
coaching clients, because ifyou're not addressing the root
cause of what's going on, thenyou're just putting band-aids on
the solution and like, we'redone with that.
We're done with that.
We've spent too much timetrying to figure out what
band-aid is the right fit, solet's move beyond that and focus

(04:49):
on the root cause of what'sgoing on.
Now this brings me into myquestion number three, which is
what kind of lab testing haveyou done, if any?
Because are you just reallylooking at kind of surface level
labs?
When you go to the doctor eachyear and you get those annual
labs run, those can be reallyhelpful to say, okay, is

(05:12):
something truly out of whack,Love a good starting point like
that.
But if you're listening to thispodcast, if you are serious
about getting your hormones andyour digestion back on track,
then you might need to go alayer deeper and a panel that
again helps to figure out, helpsto point to that root cause

(05:34):
could really serve you.
So when we're thinking of guttesting with my one-on-one
clients, I use the GI mapbecause that is going to be a
stool test that helps us to seeexactly what's going on in your
digestive system, with yourmicrobiome, everything that's in
there, with inflammation, Doyou have a sensitivity?
Because it can show what isyour body's reaction to gluten.

(05:55):
It gives us information aboutyour immune system and more.
So really getting that clearpicture is so helpful.
You can imagine why, Similarlywith your hormones, with my
one-on-one clients, when we aretrying to again get to that root
cause what's going on with yourperiod we'll oftentimes use the

(06:17):
Dutch test which, in additionto giving a super comprehensive
picture of your hormones, canalso help to shed some light on
inflammation in your body.
Also, your stress hormone,cortisol.
What's she up to?
There are many more markers, but it's just a good.
So third question was justthinking of okay, what lab

(06:41):
testing have I done?
Is that helping me get to theroot cause?
What have I been able to learnfrom that?
Question number four take a lookback and think about how much
time have you committed to eachchange or each intervention that
you have started already,Because you may have implemented
something for a month and beenreally consistent at it, and

(07:05):
maybe your body was reactingwell.
But sometimes a month justisn't long enough to see the
changes that you need to see.
When you are making adjustmentsto your diet, to your lifestyle
, to your movement, thoseadjustments need to be
sustainable and need to bethings that you can continue

(07:26):
more or less for the long run.
Right, there is a time andplace for kind of more like
therapeutic changes that are abit more short run.
But if there's something goingon, coming back to the root
cause, this is all really to sayhow long did you implement
certain things?
And, you know, would it betterserve you to revisit one of

(07:50):
those interventions, but do soand implement it in a way that
really lasts and that works foryou.
Now the fifth and final question, and stick with me for this one
, because I think this isprobably the most important, or
second most important, afteridentifying the root cause.

(08:10):
Question number five are youidentifying as someone who has
gut problems?
Are you identifying as someonewho will never have a regular
period?
Are you identifying reallystrongly as somebody who has
PCOS?
Now, these are just threeexamples.

(08:31):
Perhaps something else poppedup in your mind and these are
all totally normal, natural, human thoughts, but these can
also be thoughts that hold youback because subconsciously,
you're doing things, or notdoing things, that keep you

(08:53):
squarely in that identity,Despite our best efforts.
We want to change.
We want to change.
But if we keep tellingourselves, if we keep saying out
loud to our friends, to oursiblings, to our partner, to
whoever, like you know, I thinkI'm just going to be like this
the rest of my life, then that'sreally doing your progress a

(09:15):
disservice, and I think it can'tbe emphasized enough how
important mindset is toprogressing through and seeing
these changes that you want andneed to restore hormone and
digestive balance.
So take a beat to think about.
Who do I identify as, whatcharacteristics or what kind of

(09:37):
features do I really hold onstrongly to, and is that
something that serves me?
So those are the fivefoundational questions that I
want you to think about If youare ready, or when you are ready
, to change things up, whenyou're ready to invest in a

(09:58):
functional lab panel, whenyou're ready to invest in your
health, Girl, let's worktogether, right?
If you're ready now, the doorsare open to apply for one-on-one
hormone coaching, and I'llmention too that, as a part of
the rooted method, which is themethod that I use with my
one-on-one clients we get intothis mindset work.
