Promising answers, healing, and fulfillment, witchcraft and new age practices captivate our culture. And many spiritually hungry people--even in the church--unknowingly participate in these dark and dangerous spiritual activities, with dark and dangerous consequences.
Recounting her own escape from the occult, former new age witch, our guest, Tailah Scroggins will expose the lies and secrets of the modern-day occult, revealing the ancient demonic origins and influences behind astrology, tarot cards, psychics, crystals, yoga, and more. With compassion and insight, she will remind us that when you let the light of Jesus shine in you and through you, the darkness won't be able to overcome it--and you'll find the true healing, answers, and spiritual fulfillment you long for.

S1 (00:00):
Hi friend, thank you so much for downloading this podcast
and I truly hope you hear something that encourages edifies, equips, enlightens,
and gently but consistently pushes you out there into the
marketplace of ideas. But before you start to listen and
before you go to the marketplace, let me just tell
you about this month's truth tool. And it is a
perfect fit for both the marketplace and getting out there.
It's Ray Comfort's book. Why? Jesus? If you listen to

(00:22):
the broadcast with any regularity, you know we love Ray.
He is bold, unashamed of the gospel. And yet in
such a winsome way, he delivers a truth narrative to
the man in the street, so to speak. He's written
the book Why Jesus? To Teach You How to Walk Through,
by examples and through real conversations he's had on how
to share the gospel in exactly the same way. Listen,

(00:43):
we're called to go and tell. It's not an opt in,
opt out clause. That's where we're supposed to go. And
in truth, how can we keep this good news to ourselves?
So I want you to have Why Jesus as this
month's truth tool. So you'll get some fire in your
bones about going out and sharing the good news of
the gospel of Jesus Christ. We're listener supported radio. My
truth tools are a way of saying thank you. When
you give a gift to the program to keep us

They always get the truth tool. But in addition to that,
they get a weekly newsletter that has some of my
writing and an audio piece that only my partial partners
get so prayerfully consider, won't you? Whether you'll be a

Hi, friends. Welcome to In the Market.

S1 (02:19):
With Janet Parshall. Thank you so much for choosing to
spend the hour with me. Well, if you look at
our mailing address says East of Eden. And because this
is not as good as it gets and because the
best is yet to come, we recognize that from that
moment that we were born, until the day the Lord
calls us home and we step into real life, and

(02:39):
that's where the best will take place. We're going to
battle three things the world, the flesh, and the devil. Sorry,
that's the reality check. Nobody gets an opt out from
any of those. And we talk about all three in
equal measure on this program. But today we're going to
focus on the devil part of that. He is real.
And you know, I love the fact that George Barnes
is doing so much research on Christian worldview, and he

(03:00):
finds out that we have a staggeringly ignorant position on
the devil. We think that somehow he only visits third
world countries. Let me tell you, I'm coming to you
from Washington, D.C. I'm here to tell you that's not
true by any stretch of the imagination. We fail to
recognize that he is an enemy. He is the prince
of this world. But he is not an equal power
with Jesus Christ by any stretch of the imagination. And

(03:21):
we so often don't want to talk about this subject
because it's like goldilocks's porridge. You hear me say this
all the time when we talk about spiritual warfare, it's
either too hot for some churches to touch. It's too cold. Oh,
it doesn't have any relevance at all. And some pastors
who hold fast to that which is good and teach
the whole counsel of God will give you exactly the
knowledge the word gives us on the reality of this

(03:41):
warfare that we're engaged with. I'm often asked, what are
your favorite conversations on radio? And I have to tell you,
beyond a shadow of a doubt and without hesitation, my
favorite always to be able to hear the stories of
people who can say and such were some of us.
I love for us to be able to make that proclamation.
Found in first Corinthians 611 but you were washed, you

(04:02):
were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the
Lord Jesus Christ and by the spirit of our God.
If God can work in and through someone that I
talked to on the air, and you hear their testimony
and remember out of the overflow of the heart, the
mouth speaks. If he can do it for them, he
can do it for you also. I think sometimes we
have brothers and sisters who have gone through fierce battles,
who have much to teach us. So perhaps if we're

(04:25):
wise and discerning, we will avoid those kinds of battles
in the future as well. So we're going to turn
our hearts very much toward this idea of spiritual warfare.
Lingering in that letter that Paul wrote to the Corinthians,
I just talked about the first letter where he said,
and such were some of you, but listen to what
he says in the second letter in chapter ten. He says,
the weapons we fight with are not the weapons of

(04:45):
the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to
demolish strongholds. We demolish arguments and every pretension tension that
sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we
take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.
Do you understand the warfare language in that particular verse? Well,
we're going to talk to somebody who was in that warfare.
And it's very interesting when you open up her brand

(05:06):
new book, the first sentence in her book entitled Breaking
Demonic Chains Deliverance from Witchcraft, astrology, crystals, and the occult. Oh,
I bet I have your attention now, don't I? The
very first sentence in her book is I was a
Christian actively participating Witchcraft in witchcraft for six years. Now,
that's kind of an oxymoron, isn't it? Christian practicing witchcraft?

(05:28):
And yet again, Barna tells us more and more Christians
are being drawn to tarot cards and yoga and crystals
and believing that angels are somehow to be worshiped, to
kind of divination. The list goes on and on and on. Well,
you're going to get the testimony from Taylor Scroggins, who's
been there, done that, and now has a marvelous ministry
that reminds people that they can truly be set free.

(05:49):
Taylor is a speaker, a minister, a recording artist. Her
transformative journey from New Age to Christianity has resonated throughout
the virtual world. She's a sought after media guest. She's
been on numerous outlets all across the country. She is
the founder of Pts ministries. She ministers alongside her husband Jericho,
a five time Grammy Award winning music producer and engineer.

(06:10):
And I will tell you also that she hosts a
marvelous podcast as well that I really and truly hope
we get a chance to talk about as well. Taylor,
thank you so very, very much. I can't tell you
how much I've been looking forward to this conversation, because
I truly believe that when people like you come forward
and you tell your story, you're doing the body a
great service so that we can practice wisdom and discernment.

(06:31):
And as it says in Deuteronomy, have nothing to do
with these things. There's way too much dabbling. I read
an article the other day that talked about Christians getting
more and more involved in tarot card use, which I
don't understand. It's like trying to blend darkness and light
and think that somehow they coexist. But I want to
go to your first sentence how can you be a
Christian and also a practicing witch? So before I get

(06:52):
to the witchcraft, tell me about the Christian part. When
in your experience, would you say you became a Christian?

S7 (06:59):
Hi Janet, thank you so much for having me. It's
an honor to be on your show today, and I
was actually raised in a Christian home with very sound
teaching and an amazing church. But unfortunately, we never talked
about the darkness. We never talked a lot about, hey,
this is why we don't practice these things. And there

(07:19):
wasn't any teaching on that, even in the good churches
that I was growing up to. So I was involved
in New Age and in the occult. Without even knowing it.
I thought what I was doing was wellness. I thought
it was trendy. I thought there was nothing wrong with
it because I wasn't taught about it as a young believer,
and I didn't read my word enough to know that

(07:39):
the Bible actually talks about these things.

S1 (07:42):
Wow. And, you know, I think if I can just
pause for a moment, Taylor, is that I think that's
the kind of story for so many believers where they
didn't even know. And it really echoes what I just
said about pastors. Please preach the whole counsel of God.
Don't sidestep this because it's uncomfortable, or you don't fully
understand it, or you think it's going to have people
leave the pews. It's all or nothing. We don't get

(08:02):
to pick and choose out of God's word like it's
a buffet restaurant of some kind. So you didn't see
a problem being raised in this Christian home of solid teaching?
You didn't see a problem getting involved at all. So
where I want to go now is if you didn't
see a problem, there was a Pied Piper that was
wooing you into this in the first place. What was
your first step out of light, into darkness then?

S7 (08:25):
Well, I think, you know, the enemy is very subtle.
He never comes at us with wearing devil horns and
holding a pitchfork. It's very subtle. It's very alluring. And so,
you know, I was introduced like a lot of people
in my generation. Um, I'm Gen Z, I'm 28 years old.
And so, you know, a lot of media and things
that are targeted towards children, movies, TV shows, media, it's

(08:46):
very occult centric. There are a lot of stories and
movies that we read where witchcraft is glorified. And so
I remember, you know, seeing little kid TV shows about
psychics and witches. And my mother would say, we don't
watch that. It's witchcraft, it's bad. And I would say, why?
And I would never get that explanation. And so this
subtle indoctrination led me deeper and deeper down that rabbit trail.

S1 (09:09):
Wow. That's a fascinating and important point. And what a
great place to take a break. Taylor, let me take
a break. We'll come right back. I want to pick
it up exactly at that point. And I'm going to
start with this question. You talked about Gen Z. You
are you're 28. You said it's a lot of stuff
that's out there in social media in your world. That
raises a fascinating question. And I think we, the church
and followers of Christ, need to answer what is the allure?

(09:31):
What is the attraction to those dark arts, particularly in
your age demographic? So we'll get an answer when we return. Remember,
Taylor has written a brand new book called Breaking Demonic
Chains Very Powerful Her Story, and she really helps us
clean house spiritually back after this. In today's world, people

(09:53):
are more confused than ever about truth and meaning. That's
why I've chosen Why Jesus by Ray comfort as this
month's truth tool. Discover why Jesus is the only path
to everlasting life, and learn how to confidently share that
hope with others. As for your copy of Why Jesus,
when you give a gift of any amount to in
the market, call 877 Janet 58. That's 877 Janet 58
or go to in the market with Janet Parshall. We

(10:18):
get to spend the hour with Taylor Scroggins, who's written
the book Breaking Demonic Chains, subtitled deliverance from witchcraft, astrology, crystals,
and the occult. Such an important and timely conversation because
we're like it talks about in the Bible. Remember, it
says a double minded man is unstable in all his ways.
We are first Kings 18, limping between two worlds on this.

(10:38):
We have one foot knowing God's truth another. And let's
just play around with this stuff. And somehow we don't
see it as a problem. That is, in part what
Taylor's story was raised in a Christian home, didn't have
a lot of teachings on this, and gets wooed in.
By the way, let me point out also that Taylor
is the host of the podcast Set Apart and Set Free.
And that podcast is about helping you to walk in

(10:59):
freedom and purpose, the purpose that God has for your life. So, Taylor,
you talk in the book that your dad is the
one who gave you a book on astrology. Interestingly, your
mom said, don't watch that. It's the occult. We don't
want anything to do with it. Your dad gets you
the book on astrology. Let me go back to that
in a minute, but recover the question I asked just
before the break, which is I want to know. I
want to know because I care desperately about my brothers

(11:20):
and sisters and the body of believers. What is it
particularly about your age demographic, do you think that finds attractiveness,
or are compelled to be drawn to the idea of
the occult and the dark arts?

S7 (11:33):
Absolutely. You know, there's a few studies and people have
been trying to unpack this question. You know, there's a
hunger for the supernatural. Um, I grew up as an
Elder Gen Z, and so I watched the sorry, the
millennials growing up, and they were, um, really indoctrinated in atheism.
Atheism is, you know, God's not dead. Those movies came out,

(11:55):
the books were out, and my generation shifted away from
that and was like, no, I think there is something more.
There is a spiritual realm and we need answers. My
generation desperately grapples with a mental health crisis. And so
they're searching for healing. They're searching for fulfillment. They're searching
for answers. And they want to have these supernatural experiences.

(12:19):
And unfortunately, in some, you know, different churches, they're not
teaching that the Lord can heal you. He can restore you.
He can give you purpose, um, and and heal your
mind and set you free like he did for me.
I had anxiety, I had depression, I was searching and
trying to heal myself with these New Age methods. Um,
and it wasn't until I gave my life back to

(12:41):
the Lord, that he freed me. Um, and so I
think they're very experienced. Um, they're chasing these experiences. They
want to find these answers. And, you know, with the
digital age and TikTok and Instagram and all these social platforms,
you have, uh, people online who are dark evangelists saying, here,
get your tarot cards, read, learn about your future. These

(13:01):
crystals will heal you. And so they're getting caught up
looking in the wrong places, trying to find that that hunger.
They're hungry for God. They're hungry for Jesus, but they
just don't know it.

S1 (13:12):
Mm. Boy, I think what you have to say is
so important and so powerful a for moms and dads
to be tuned in, but also for us as evangelists,
all of us are called to be that, by the way,
to really understand what the attractiveness is. So there's so
many things in what you just said, and I want
to underscore them. You're hearkening back to Blaise Pascal, the
17th century French mathematician that says there resides in the

(13:33):
heart of every man, a God shaped void, and only
a relationship with him can fill it. So atheism doesn't satisfy. Espy.
There's still that spiritual hunger there, but that generation was
simply looking in all the wrong places. The other thing
you picked up on that I thought was so astute
is that here in Washington, there's all kinds of white
papers and studies, and we know we're in the midst
of a mental health crisis, particularly again in that Gen

(13:54):
Z demographic. So you touched on an important word which
is healing. Well, it would make sense because so many
of these dark arts are tied into healing practices, aren't they?
And so there's a draw there to thinking somehow this
is where I'm going to find my healing. So that's
as we go through this conversation. Think about I want
to know the wiles of the devil. Okay. What do
you do? You expose the deeds of darkness, and I

(14:15):
want to know what's in his toolbox. What's the attractiveness?
Because we always have the better answer to offer. So
we just need to know what are they finding so
attractive in the dark arts that we can offer? That's oh,
so much better. So now take me back to your dad.
He gives you a book on astrology. That's an interesting story.
Tell me about it.

S7 (14:32):
Yes. So my father, during this time was searching for
spiritual truth. He was blending aspects of universalism. So he
was studying Buddhism. He was studying Islam. He got saved
after high school. My parents met, um, on fire for
the Lord, but he grew up in a muslim home

(14:54):
before he converted to Christianity. And there was this upbringing
that undermined, I think, some of the absolute truth of
the Bible that Jesus is the way, the truth, the life.
He is the only way to the father. And there
is no other way to salvation outside of Jesus Christ. Well,
Islam doesn't teach that, you know. And so I think
when these values are instilled in you, you know, and

(15:16):
you're not fully set free, um, they can creep back in.
And so he kind of was regressed spiritually and was like,
you know, maybe there are other ways towards God. Maybe
Islam could be true. I'm a Christian, but what's so
wrong with Buddhism? Maybe these are all paths towards God.
So these were the conversations that were happening at the
dinner table and my mom would be sitting there saying, no,

(15:38):
we know that. Jesus said, I'm the way, the truth,
and the life. We know that you know, he died
on the cross. And so it was very confusing. I
was about 15 or 16 years old at the time. Um,
and so I was wrestling with a lot of these
questions and these doubts. And while he was searching and
I remember, you know, he would be watching gurus and
all of these things going on in my home. And

(15:59):
one day he came home with an astrology book, and
I had been introduced to astrology. Um, very in passing,
they would have these horoscopes in the back of children
and teenage magazines, and I would always read them, because
if you show any kid, here's your fortune, you know
the kid is going to be curious. Um, and so
I was very vaguely familiar with it. And then he

(16:21):
began explaining astrology to me. Well, you're this way, and
this is why you behave this way. And I felt
like that book was reading me like a book. It
was telling me all about my identity. And I felt
very connected to this. Um. And when you're young, you
really don't know your identity. You are becoming. You are, um,
developing into the person that God has called you to be.

(16:42):
And so the enemy, you know, he he, um, exploits
our weaknesses and our pain points. And so I felt understood.
And I became obsessed with astrology from that point on.

S1 (16:53):
Wow. And as we will continue after the break, that's
the open door. That's just the portal that you stepped into.
Taylor Scroggins is with us. She is the founder of
the Dynamic Online Ministries. I have a link to her website,
by the way, and also she's the author of the
book Breaking Demonic Chains. Again, so powerful. It isn't just
good Bible teaching. It's I've been there. And let me

(17:16):
tell you what he has done in for and through
me and by hearing her testimony. Perhaps this will give
you the wake up call you needed to hear right now,
to stay away from having anything to do with the
occult in any way, shape or form. So much more
to tell the story back after this. Speaker, minister and

(17:53):
recording artist Taylor Scroggins is with us. She's the author
of the book Breaking Demonic Chains Deliverance from Witchcraft, astrology, crystals,
and the occult. Taylor, you said something earlier that my
mom used to tell me when I was growing up too,
and that is, we have this idea that Satan always
shows up. In my case, my mom would say with
a pitchfork in a red cape, and you rightfully pointed

(18:13):
out that he's far more subtle than that. So along
comes this searching on your dad's part, the book of astrology.
You get into that and then it's just a downward spiral.
You go to yoga, crystals, numerology, and witchcraft in that order.
Talk to me about how opening that door is the way.
That's the subtlety of that first door that leads you

(18:34):
deeper into darkness.

S7 (18:36):
Yes, and that's all the enemy really needs. And he's
patient and he will wait. And so, funny enough, around
this time I have my first encounter with God. I
have grown up in church, I've believed in the Lord.
And I asked my father. I said, well, if God
created our personalities, how can astrology be true? And he said,
oh well, God created astrology. It's a system that he made.
That was a good enough answer for me. And so

(18:58):
I began blending the two. Um, and I'm going to
church and I'm reading my Bible and I'm telling my
classmates about Jesus, and I am practicing divination, which is fortunetelling.
And the Bible is very clear that that that we
should have no, uh, no part in that because it's
absolutely wicked and evil. Um, and so, you know, from

(19:19):
there the yoga began, and that's what I did. And
then things took a much darker turn when I got
into college.

S1 (19:26):
Wow. Tell me about that. What happened?

S7 (19:28):
So around the time of my graduation. Um, as I mentioned, uh,
as you mentioned that I'm a recording artist in Nashville.
I had a lot of open doors in the music industry,
and I was very excited, and it seemed like, oh,
the Lord is opening these doors and I'm going to
be this Christian artist, and this is the time for that.
And everything looked great. The deal fell through and the

(19:50):
enemy lied to me and said, God doesn't have your
best interests at heart. He opened those doors to your
dreams just to close them and slam them shut in
your face. And he's not a good father, and I
believe the lie of the enemy. Um, sadly. And so
I started off college just very disillusioned, very angry, very rebellious.
And that hunger for the occult just grew because I

(20:14):
no longer trusted God. And so that's when I really
turned my back on Christianity, on what I knew was true,
because I was mad at God. And then I started
really getting into trying to open my third eye and
meditation and ordering crystals and, you know, opening a lot
more doors, uh, intentionally to the demonic, because I wanted
to build my own spirituality apart from God.

S1 (20:38):
You are our teacher. This our tailor. So when you
say in the first sentence of your book that you
were practicing witchcraft for six years, you know when you
say that to most people, particularly in the church, they
picture something out of The Wizard of Oz. But you
talk about New Age witchcraft. Can you first, can you
break that down? First of all, the writer of Ecclesiastes said,
there's nothing new under the sun. The oxymoron is called

(20:59):
New age. It's an old art. So tell me about
New Age and its linkage to witchcraft.

S7 (21:05):
Yes, it's an excellent question. New age is just a
modern term for ancient witchcraft and paganism. It is repackaged, rebranded, um,
ancient practices that includes divination, fortunetelling, necromancy, which is communication
with the dead. Um fortunetelling numerology, all of these practices

(21:27):
that the pagan people were doing in the Bible, that
God commanded the Israelites. His chosen people do not partake
in these practices. They worship these other gods. The Bible
says that are not gods. They are actually demons. They
are demonic spirits. And so that's who they are communing with. Um,
and so it's. Yeah, like you said, there's nothing new

(21:47):
under the sun. It's it's new age, but it's old lies.

S1 (21:51):
Wow. So I'm talking to you today as someone who
is stepping into the power of that verse in first
Corinthians and such, were some of you, you did this
for six years, so that common sense says something happened
at around that six year mark where things began to change.
What did happen?

S7 (22:08):
Yes. So the beginning of that six years started when
I was one foot in the church and one foot
unknowingly in, uh, astrology and yoga. Um, then the latter
part was when I was in college, knowingly rebelling against
the Lord. Um, and so towards the end, when I
turned my back on God, the void was just inescapable.

(22:29):
I was depressed, I was anxious, I didn't want to
live anymore. I would be driving home from college, and
I remember thinking, I wouldn't even care if a car
just ran into me and and I didn't even, you know,
I wasn't even alive anymore. I was just so empty
because I knew God's love and I had turned my
back on him. And that emptiness. I don't even have

(22:49):
words to describe it. Janet. And so, uh, I was
kind of at this end of myself, and I remember distinctly, um,
it was a process, you know, leaving and subtly and
slowly going back to church. But I remember the night
I stopped practicing these, uh, this witchcraft once and for all.
I was reading something in astrology called a birth chart.

(23:11):
It's a fortune telling chart. And it said you're going
to get a divorce. You are prone to certain types
of cancers and head trauma. And it had all of
these horrible things written into my future. And that's the
moment the light bulb went on in my in my
head I said, oh my gosh, this is not from God.
Jesus would never put cancer and divorce and curses into
my story. That's what he died to rescue us from, um,

(23:34):
and give us eternal life. And so that's the moment
the scales fell off of my eyes. And the Lord, uh,
was wooing me back to him. And I was like,
I can't I can't keep practicing this. It's evil. And
I have to give my life back to God.

S1 (23:48):
Wow. And isn't God good the way he sends prayer warriors?
You talk about Sandra, who comes over and says, I
want to pray for you. How powerfully important is it
that we have people praying for others?

S7 (23:57):
Yes, yes, it's extremely important she she changed. She helped
change the trajectory of my life. She boldly came over
when I was kind of getting ready to get out
of this, and she said, God told me to come over,
pray for you today. And we actually prayed in the
spirit of heaviness and depression lifted off of me that day.
And that's what I needed to go back to church,
which eventually led me to leaving all of the witchcraft behind.

S1 (24:21):
Wow. Well, you write that Sandra said, today is the
day of your freedom. If this kind of a story
doesn't give you goosebumps, I'm going to tell you what
Paul said. Wake up sleeper. This is such a powerfully
important story of the power of God and how he
came to set us free, real freedom. Taylor Scroggins is
with us much more after this. Our team of partial

(24:56):
partners is growing, and I love communicating behind the scenes

today's date. This is our one of the two hours
we do every single day. And our guest is Taylor Scroggins.

(25:39):
Let me introduce her to you again. She is the
host of the podcast Set Apart and Set Free. Now
hearing her story, those of you who've been with us
from the start. Isn't that a perfectly named podcast? It's
about helping you walk in the freedom and purpose God
has for you. In addition to that, she is a speaker,
a minister, and yes, he is not a father who frustrates.

(25:59):
She is a recording artist and she joins us as
the author of the book Breaking Demonic Chains Deliverance from Witchcraft, astrology, crystals,
and the occult and What You Do beautifully after your testimony,
after you remind us of the power of the Holy Spirit,
after you offer the plan of salvation in the book,
all of which is fabulous, then you do some housekeeping
and you literally go through so many of these aspects

(26:20):
of the occult, and you take them one by one
by one. And why I love the book is not
just the power of your testimony. That in and of
itself is worth the read, but it helps people who
are dabbling in these things just like you at one point.
Taylor go, well, it's not so bad. I really don't
see the problem. And what you do is you kick
open the front door, you lift up the shades and
you say, we're going to put light on these so
you understand that they are not innocent. When Deuteronomy says

(26:44):
have nothing to do with them. And that's about as blank.
That's a bold statement as you could possibly get from Scripture.
It means have nothing. Not a little bit. Not once
in a while have nothing to do with it. So
let me pick up on something you noted earlier, so
insightfully noted earlier, and that is this mental health crisis
among Gen Z and the seeking for health. And so

(27:05):
I said to you, it seems to me that a
lot of these occultic practices have a health aspect to them.
You have an entire chapter devoted to that called false
healing practices. What are some of those practices?

S7 (27:17):
Yes. Some of those false healing practices, um, would be Reiki,
which is, uh, energy healing. It comes from Japanese occultism,
where they literally they manipulate energy. They call it universal energy.
They lay hands on the person's body and they try
to move or take away this pain. It's a direct,
demonic counterfeit to the spiritual gift in the Bible of

(27:40):
laying on hands and praying for the sick, the gift
of healing. Um, yoga. Yoga is also a false healing practice,
as well as going to witch doctors and shamans.

S1 (27:51):
Can I go back to the yoga because you wrote
something very powerful in the book that I didn't know about,
and maybe others who are thinking, well, there's Christian yoga.
I'm not quite sure that those two blend quite truthfully,
but you say in yoga, every one of the positions
is reflective of some false pagan god, is it not?
Talk to me more about that.

S7 (28:10):
Yes. So yoga is not exercise. It's not stretching. It
doesn't mean stretching or exercise. Yoga means to yoke, to bind.
It means union in Sanskrit. And so this is an
ancient practice that was created to worship Hindu gods and goddesses,
which from the Christian biblical worldview are considered demons. And

(28:32):
they go into these positions because they are trying to
invoke a certain god or goddess to come and yoke
and bind and have union with them. So whenever people
are entering into these yoga poses and doing the chants
and the hand poses, the body poses, they are inviting
that demonic spirit, that being into their body.

S1 (28:53):
So as someone who has been in that world of
darkness and someone and I hear this question so often.
Taylor well, what about Christian yoga? Is that okay? How
would you answer that question?

S7 (29:04):
I would say, Is Christian witchcraft okay? Is Christian astrology okay?
Is Christian Buddhism okay? It doesn't make sense because it
is literally created to worship pagan gods with your body.
That is the purpose and the whole point of yoga.

S1 (29:20):
Wow. Thank you for that. I think we needed some
clarity in that area. What's a sound bath and sound healing?

S7 (29:26):
Yes. Sound healing. I'm glad you brought that up. It's
a new age practice. It's very popular. Even if you
turn on modern day TV shows, things like The Bachelor or,
you know, these dating shows, they'll go and they'll say, oh,
we're going to give you a romantic spa getaway, and
we're going to give you a sound bath, and we're
going to have shamans come and and all this wild stuff.
And so it's very popular. And so, um, some of

(29:49):
you might have seen it on TV and they will
go and some sort of guru will be sitting in
a room and they'll start hitting all of these gongs
and these energy and listen sounds and notes, they're not demonic.
God made all of the sounds, you know, but it's
the purpose. So they try to heal and tap into
frequencies and healing energies with certain sounds. It's just rituals.

(30:10):
It's witchcraft, healing rituals that are done with sound, as
opposed to other, uh, methods and forms. You know, not
a crystal, not, um, you know, a Reiki hand laying
on session, but it's just, in this case, sound bowls.

S1 (30:24):
Wow. Taylor, let me just pause and say, you are
so wise beyond your years. I'm so thankful that with
such clarity, you're telling us why we as the body
need to stay away from this stuff? So I wrote
a commentary not too long ago, because I read it
in a major magazine that there is this new interest
in tarot cards, that it was sort of something that
kind of fell off the cultural horizon for years. Now

(30:45):
there's an interest. They've kind of updated the cards, and
then even the secular magazine noticed how many Christians were
starting to step into the use of tarot cards. It's
fortune telling. Tell me from your vantage point and you
write about tarot cards in the book. What are they?
Why do we stay away?

S7 (31:02):
Yes. And you're absolutely right about Christians dabbling with this. Um,
they did some research at the Pew Research Center, and
they said that around 60% of Americans, including Christians, were
practicing and believing in some form of New Age of witchcraft.
And yes, divination is a huge is a huge problem. Um,
so tarot cards falls under divination, which is what the

(31:24):
Bible calls fortune telling. Um, and so when, you know,
some people say, well, I'm using the Holy Spirit, I'm
talking to angels, I'm talking to God when I do
my tarot cards, when I'm telling people's fortunes. And, you know,
I tell them, how can you be tapping into God
or angels if you're doing something that the Lord says

(31:45):
not to do in his word that he says is sin,
it's evil. There's no way that the Holy Spirit is
going to help you do fortune telling. So by eliminating that,
you have to be communicating with demons. But they don't
want to. They don't want to believe it. They don't
understand it. So I have this section devoted to tarot
cards to hopefully help those scales fall off of some
of these people's eyes that think that you can blend

(32:08):
the two. But but when people are getting their fortunes
read and and they come true, like sometimes these fortunes
really do come true. Well, it's because these demons, they
can't see the future, but they're speaking a curse over
your life. And when you come into agreement with that
fortune spiritually, you're allowing that you're saying, okay, I come
into agreement with that word curse, and it can happen

(32:29):
to me.

S1 (32:30):
Yeah, exactly. I should point out also that in great compassion,
and I think with spiritual wisdom, you conclude each chapter
on one of these aspects of the occult with a prayer.
So you've got a deliverance prayer for from card readings.
And I think it's important for anyone who's struggling to know,
just pray that and remember that greater is he that
is in you than he that is in the world.

(32:51):
There isn't a question of who defeats whom here, it's
whether or not we will submit to Christ and let
our victory come from him. But we have to make
the choice to stay away from this stuff in the
first place. You know, the whole idea of future telling
if that worked, just kind of putting on the 35,000
foot perspective on this. Why would we be told to
walk by faith and not by sight? If God wanted

(33:11):
us to know the future other than the future, he
tells us, is planned for us through His Word. Then
maybe God doesn't want us to know a future. Maybe
he wants us to depend on him. He tells us
clearly in Matthew, don't worry about tomorrow. Tomorrow's got enough
concerns for itself. I'm going to take care of you today.
Everything in his word is worked on the principle of
trusting him now. Sufficient grace for the day. We woke

(33:32):
up this morning. He crowned us with tender mercies. And.
And they were renewed every morning. So I'm not even
supposed to be looking toward the future. I'm supposed to
surrender that to him. What if a how do we
think a card is going to do that? To me,
it's like, I guess we don't understand the character of God.
If we think a card is going to tell us
our future.

S7 (33:50):
Absolutely, absolutely. And and God is so good that he
will speak to us and give us direction and clarity
and when we need it. But, you know, and another
thing I write about to to your point is I 100%
agree and is that it's, easier for people to go
and pay a card reader and, or look up a horoscope.

(34:12):
It's the easy route. And what's not easy is getting
on your face before the Lord and praying and surrendering
and receiving a word and learning how to hear his voice.
People don't want to put in the work. I didn't
want to put in the work. I it was so
easy for me to just type in, what's my horoscope
for today? Because I didn't want to put in the
work and get on my face and surrender my life
to the Lord.

S1 (34:32):
That is such a good point. That gets down to
Christian discipline and maturity. We always talk on this program
about getting off a diet of milk and moving to
a diet of meat, so having to trust God creates
spiritual heft on our bones. And should the Lord tarry,
we need strong, courageous, muscular Christians. And having a conversation
like this is about getting some spiritual heft on your bones.

(34:55):
I interviewed a man once who said that, and he
deals a lot in the area of spiritual warfare. He
said a person contacted him and said, I'm a Christian psychic. Again,
it's like jumbo shrimp. It's an oxymoron. You can't put
those two together. Talk to me about psychics because they're
just the sort of human version of a tarot card,
are they not?

S7 (35:13):
Absolutely. You know, and you know, some are charlatans, and
I even I even talk about that in the book.
But the ones who really are they really are psychics. Um,
the Bible, when you look into the, um, Hebrew and
the Greek, well, the Hebrew word, uh, for a, for
a medium or a psychic. These people who deal with that,
the Bible uses the word water skin. I said, what's
a water skin when I'm doing research for this chapter?

(35:35):
And it's like an ancient water bottle, I'm like, okay,
water bottle. So a water bottle is filled with water,
and people drink from it when they're thirsty and they
receive from it. And then the secondary definition in the
Hebrew is, you know, a fortune teller, a diviner, someone
who who hears from a familiar spirit or a ventriloquist,

(35:56):
funny enough. And so when I start putting these together. Okay,
so this psychic is a ventriloquist. They are filled with
these unclean spirits, and they are pouring these, these unclean
fortunes out on spiritually thirsty and hungry people.

S1 (36:12):
Wow. And again, the naivety here. This is why. Gird
your mind. Okay. Get into the word. Let it be
written on the tablets of your heart, and recognize the
person and the power of the indwelling of the Holy
Spirit in your life. I wake up every morning and
I thank God for the gift of the Holy Spirit.
What would life be like without having his power? Oh,

(36:35):
so much to this book breaking Demonic Chains. Taylor Scroggins.
The author will be back after this. Taylor Scroggins is

(36:57):
with us. She is the host of the podcast Set
Apart and Set Free. again, that's designed to help you
walk in the freedom and purpose that God has given you.
Even in addition to hosting her podcast, she is a speaker,
a minister, and a recording artist, and she's written a
very important book for the church right now, because we're
a little confused on this issue, and it's going to
lead down a path of destruction. It's called breaking demonic chains,

(37:21):
deliverance from witchcraft, astrology, crystals, and the occult. This is
not just her journey out of being in the New Age.
Occultic practices for many years, but then opens the door
on all of these different aspects of demonic practices that
we just think, oh, it can't be any harm. They're really,
you know, Taylor, there's so many questions I want to
ask you, but I felt prompted during the break to

(37:41):
ask you this. You are exposing the deeds of darkness,
and when you do that, Satan doesn't care about the
people who sit on the bench. He's far more concerned
about those who have suited up. And they're on the
playing field because they're the ones making a difference. How
do we pray for you? And have you ever felt
yourself under attack because of your story and what you
talk about?

S7 (38:00):
Thank you. No one's ever asked me that question before.
But the spiritual warfare that I've encountered that my family
has encountered since writing this book has been pretty wild,
pretty off the charts. Um, so, you know, just praying for, uh,
just protection provision that the Lord would just, um, keep

(38:20):
opening doors for me to be able to continue exposing
this and building up the church because the enemy doesn't
want this, the secrets out. He doesn't want people to
know what he's really doing behind the scenes and how
he's luring especially younger generations into this. And so however
you feel led to pray, um, but you know, I
trust God. You know, it's so interesting because as things

(38:43):
get harder, also more doors open and the Lord provides
even more. And so it's this interesting thing that I'm
walking through. But thank you for asking that.

S1 (38:51):
You know, it's interesting. You made me think of what
Paul said in the New Testament when he talked about
great opposition but great opportunities. And maybe that's exactly where
you are in your journey right now. And may the
Lord continue to do that. I plead the blood of
Jesus over your life, and I pray that he really
continues to open doors for you, especially at your age.
And I don't mean to keep harping on that, but,

(39:13):
you know, we think of a lot of these things
as kind of maybe this were practices that older Christians
got involved in or it was big in the 60s. Right.
But you talked about the hunger and the vulnerability, if
I can use that word of this particular demographic predicated
on hurt, and that breaks my heart. And Satan sees
that vulnerability and he just comes rushing in. So I

(39:33):
think God has raised you for such a time as this.
There's no questions whatsoever. I. One quick word about crystals.
And then I definitely want to talk about cleaning our houses.
What is it about crystals and how do they work
into all this stuff?

S7 (39:46):
Yes. So crystals you know, I always get asked this
question is, you know, do I need to throw them away?
It's like, look, God created crystals. They're beautiful creations that
the Lord made. Even we crystals are going to be
in heaven. You know, there's streets made with precious gems
and rubies. That's not the issue. The issue is people
are buying these. Number one, from witchcraft stores. The secondary
issue is they're using them to cleanse their home to

(40:09):
attract blessings, love, luck. Um, to cleanse their minds. They're
turning to these crystals, like the crystals are going to
fix them and put their life back together and heal them.
And it's idolatry, right? In the Bible times, they were
turning to pagan statues and praying. Well, today people are
doing this with crystals. And so that's really where the
issue comes in.

S1 (40:29):
Yeah. Wow. Why do we keep settling for lesser gods? Well, amazing.
You you talk about cleansing our house. I so believe
in this. And I so think it's important. Give me
the overarching need on why we literally have to walk
through our house and get rid of things that shouldn't
be there. And the idea that we're opening portals again,
this is about a door. You made an observation earlier

(40:51):
that was so important for you. The open door was astrology,
and that's what started the journey. So Satan waits for
the open door. So if you've got objects in your house,
these could be open doors as well. Give me an
overview on why it's imperative we clean house, and what
are some of the things we should be kicking out
the front door.

S7 (41:06):
It's imperative because Satan and his demons are legalists. We
see this in the Bible. And so any open door,
any type of contract connection, anything. Because I participated in yoga,
I allowed unclean spirits associated with those practices into my life.
And I had to pray those prayers, like at the
end of the chapters, to break it off and to

(41:29):
cleanse myself. My temple right. The Bible says word temples. Well,
our physical homes are important as well because when you
start bringing these things, these crystals for, you know, use
for those intentions or, um, you know, different things, tarot cards,
Ouija boards. When we bring these things into our home spiritually,
what happens in the second heaven is those demons that
are attached to those items say, I have a legal

(41:51):
right to be here, and so we have to throw
them out. We have to get rid of them. And
I love to pray over my home. I love to
anoint my head with oil just as they anointed things
in the Bible and just, you know, representing that the
Holy Spirit dwells here. This is a home that is
consecrated to the Lord, and no other spirit is allowed
to come past, you know, these these walls and to

(42:12):
enter into these doors, because this is the Lord's house.
And so I talk about that in the book and
why it's so important. Um, and even if we're not
practicing these things, it's still good to cleanse your home,
because what movies, what TV shows, what people. And, um,
it's just good spiritual warfare. We don't have to go
crazy with it, you know, every day. But as the
Lord prompts you, you know, pray over your home.

S1 (42:34):
Yeah. I have to tell you, I love the list
that you put in this book, and I'm immediately doing
my own internal inventory going, do I have any of
this that I need to be kicking out of my house?
And they're just, as you said before, they're open doors.
We anoint our homes to, um, before we moved into
any house. We always put oil on our homes, too. And,
you know, as for me and my house, we're going
to serve the Lord, that means both the oil and

(42:54):
the outside and everything that's on the inside as well.
And your list is fantastic. You close out your excellent
book by talking about the freedom that we have walking
with Christ Jesus. It's a superb way to end the book.
It goes to the core of what your podcast is
all about, and it's a reminder again, we have these
conversations not because we're afraid, okay. Greater is he that
is in us than he that is in the world.

(43:16):
We're exposing the deeds of darkness, and we want to
make sure that we live as children of light. Right?
That's what this is all about. So let me give
you a couple of reference points. I want you to
read the book. I want you to do your own inventory.
Are there objects in your house you need to throw
out the front door? Are there dabblings that you're in
that you're going are not a problem? Are you trying
to mix darkness and light in thinking that somehow it's okay?

(43:37):
I hope Taylor's story tells you no. You just have
nothing to do with it. You cannot mix the two together.
So the book is called Breaking Demonic Chains. It's on
my information page. Just go to In the Market with
Janet Parshall. Click on the red box below the our summation.
It says Program details and Audio. Clicking on takes you
over to the information page. There's a beautiful picture of

(43:58):
Taylor underneath. Her biography is the link to her website. Taylor.
If you're driving and you can't write it down, don't worry,
it's there on the info page. And right to the
right is the book Breaking Demonic Chains. I think this
is a must read for every single one of us,
because we want to keep short records, we want to
keep a clean house, and we want to honor and
glorify him in all things. And that battle remains today

(44:20):
still the world, the flesh and the devil. So now,
because of Taylor's journey, you've gotten a wonderful biblical tutorial
on the reality of spiritual warfare, the power of the
Holy Spirit, and things to stay away from so we
can bring honor and glory to the Lord. He's not
a cosmic bully that doesn't want us to enjoy his world.
He wants us to be smart and discerning. That's why

(44:40):
he says, get wisdom. You got a whole lot from
Taylor this hour. Blessings to you, Taylor, Lord protector always.
We'll see you next time, friends.
