S1 (00:00):
Hi friend, thank you so much for downloading this podcast
and I truly hope you hear something that edifies encourage, equips, enlightens,
and then gets you out there in the marketplace of ideas.
But before you go, I want to tell you about
this month's truth tool. It's called Have You Ever Wondered?
And I absolutely love this topic because if you're like me,
going out into the night sky and looking up and
seeing a million stars, don't you just stop and think
(00:22):
about God? And are you not in a moment of
awe and wonder or looking out over the vast expanse
of an ocean and you start thinking, what is man,
that thou art mindful of him? And it makes you
wonder about the magnificence of God? I think that sense
of wonder was put there on purpose, and this wonderful
book includes a composite of multiple authors who have written
(00:42):
from their perspective as a scientist, or a historian, or
a mathematician or an artist, on why they all have
this sense of awe through the work that they do.
In other words, the heavens declare the glory. And as
it tells us in Romans, we are really without excuse
because his handiwork is everywhere. And this book invites you
to walk through the chapters written by people who all
(01:03):
have a sense of awe and wonder when it comes
to God through their various disciplines in life. It's an
amazing book and it's yours. For a gift of any amount,
just call 877 Janet 58. That's 877 Janet 58. Ask

Scroll to the bottom of the page. There is the
cover of the truth tool for the month. I'll tell
you about that in a second. Click it on and
(03:03):
you just go right through and it'll tell you how
to become a partial partner. So you can use the
phone number or the website. This month's truth tool. It's
that whole idea of being in awe of God. Have
you heard Michael W Smith's brand new song Arms Around
the Sun? Oh, I have listened to that a thousand times.
It's on my playlist. I absolutely love it. It's it's
(03:24):
a throwback musically. Well, to the 1980s and I absolutely
love it, but the lyrics are so wonderful. Trying to
get my head around you is like trying to wrap
my arms around the sun. That's or that's wonder. And
that's why I chose the book. Have you ever wondered?
Because it really is a group of authors who got
together and asked us questions about wondering questions about, well,
(03:46):
have you ever wondered why the best stories are about
good and evil? Have you ever wondered why we love
happy endings or why we're attracted to the supernatural? All
of that is fingerprinted by God, so that we would
move to a place where we would discover the author
of awe and wonder himself, our great and glorious King.
This is a marvelous book. It helps us set our
mind on things above and with great anticipation. Look forward
(04:08):
to his glorious return. But in the meantime, there is
a reason why, particularly on summer nights, you go out
and if the lights in the city have dialed down
a bit and you can count, well, you can't. You
look at the stars, you can't count them, and then
you start realizing, wait, he made all of those? Wait, wait.
He not only made them, he gave every single one
of them a name. What is man that thou art
mindful of him. And that's where the awe and the
(04:30):
wonder comes. So that's this much truth tool. You're going
to love it. 877 Janet 58. Gift of any amount.
We'll send it your way. 877 Janet 58 or online
at In the Market with Janet Parshall. Let's turn our
eyes toward Israel a lot. Still going on. Thank goodness
the U.S. has taken a strong position in support of
Israel at the United Nations. And in the meantime, have
(04:51):
you ever followed Ayatollah Khomeini on x I do. He
makes me laugh on a regular basis. He is delusional,
by the way. But remember, he's pushing for his eschatology. Israel,
the little Satan, the United States, the Great Satan. And
he wants to quote, destroy the Zionist state. And by
the way, one of his latest post was he thinks
the Zionist state has been destroyed. Well, I've got this
(05:12):
book that tells me that's not going to happen anytime soon,
but I digress. The point is, he's still very much
involved in what's going on in Iran, and that's a
whole other percolating pot. Here's more from CBN news.
S6 (05:23):
Israel announced today the IDF and Shin Bet recovered the
bodies of Israeli Americans Judy Weinstein and Gadi Hagai in
a special operation. Both were murdered on October 7th at
Kibbutz Nir Oz. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said all
the citizens of Israel extend heartfelt condolences to the families.
(05:43):
56 hostages remain in captivity. 20 are thought to be
still alive. The U.S. vetoed a U.N. Security Council It's
a resolution calling for a permanent and unconditional ceasefire in
the war between Israel and Hamas, but did not demand
Hamas disarm or release the remaining hostages. 14 members supported
(06:04):
the resolution.
S7 (06:05):
The United States has been clear. We would not support
any measure that fails to condemn Hamas and does not
call for Hamas to disarm and leave Gaza.
S6 (06:16):
As the Trump administration continues its attempt at a nuclear
deal with Iran, Ayatollah Khamenei remains defiant about the demand
to stop enriching uranium. President Trump is lashing out on
truth social writing. Time is running out on Iran's decision
pertaining to nuclear weapons, which must be made quickly. It
(06:36):
is my opinion that Iran has been slow walking their
decision on this very important matter, and we will need
a definitive answer in a very short period of time.
Trump originally gave the negotiators two months to come up
with a deal. That deadline expires next week. The president
is also taking action in the aftermath of an attack
(06:57):
on Jewish demonstrators in Boulder, Colorado, by issuing a travel
ban and restrictions on 19 countries. 15 survivors of the
attack spoke out at a vigil.
S8 (07:09):
I'll say I feel perfectly safe here in Boulder. I
absolutely do. I'll say I was wrong, but I was
absolutely felt safe. This was not okay. It really was
not okay.
S6 (07:20):
At the white House, CBS News Kelly Wright asked Caroline
Leavitt what the government can do about anti-Semitism.
S9 (07:27):
Can these entities and these agencies work together with the
president to put out a proactive campaign to help people
stop the hate?
S10 (07:35):
I think the president himself has been leading on this, Kelly,
and has been incredibly clear in his rhetoric that he
is not going to tolerate such hate or behavior in
the United States of America.
S6 (07:46):
The Boulder attack followed the murders of two Israeli embassy
employees in Washington, D.C. in May. Yaron Leshinsky and Sarah Milgram.
Chris Mitchell, CBN news, Jerusalem.
S1 (07:58):
So we continue to watch and we continue to pray.
Let me quickly touch on the fact that there were
some pretty outstanding decisions handed down by the U.S. Supreme
Court today. Unanimous 9 to 0 doesn't happen all that often,
but it certainly happened today. Craig and I will go
into this in greater depth tomorrow during our Friday conversation,
but I want to tease this a little bit and
(08:18):
let you know that the United States Supreme Court has
ruled in favor of. Just think about this a straight woman.
Have a listen.
S11 (08:25):
A unanimous decision today made it easier to bring lawsuits
over so-called reverse discrimination, siding with an Ohio woman who
claims she did not get a job and then was
demoted because she was straight. The justices decision affects lawsuits
in 20 states and the District of Columbia, where up
until now, courts have set a higher bar when members
(08:47):
of a minority group, including those who are white and heterosexual,
sued for discrimination under federal law, the court ruled. In
an appeal from Marlene Aimes, who has worked for the
Ohio Department of Youth Services for more than 20 years.
Aimes contends she was passed over for a promotion and
then demoted because she is heterosexual. Both the job she
(09:09):
sought and the one she had held were given to
LGBTQ people. Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of
1964 bars sex discrimination in the workplace. A trial court
and the sixth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled against Ames.
The Sixth Circuit is among the courts that had required
an additional requirement for people like Ames showing, quote, background
(09:32):
circumstances that might include that LGBTQ people made the decisions
affecting Ames, or statistical evidence of a pattern of discrimination
against members of the majority group. The appeals court noted
that Ames did not provide such circumstances.
S1 (09:51):
Well, I want you to know discrimination is discrimination. And
in a 9 to 0 decision, the Supreme Court said
it with Justice Jackson Brown Jackson handing down the opinion
back after this. God uses so much in the world
around us to point to him. Our sense of wonder
(10:11):
is really about knowing him. That's why I've chosen. Have
you ever wondered, as this month's Truth Tool? This book
is for all who have looked up at a million
stars in the night sky and just wondered, ask for
your copy of. Have you ever wondered when you give
a gift of any amount to in the market, call
877 Janet 58. That's 877 Janet 58 or go to
in the market with Janet Parshall all. Time to get
(10:34):
out your prayer list, because I promise we're going to
lengthen it for the rest of the hour. First we're
going to turn our eyes toward Tinseltown, toward Hollywood. We
have a great Creator as our king. It follow suit,
does it not that he would then make several of
his children creative, not for self-exaltation, but a reflection of
who they are in him. He also told us, fathers
(10:56):
don't frustrate your children, so he wouldn't call someone to
be a creative and then say, just kidding, you can't
use it. I'll draw a circle around Hollywood and say
you cannot enter. Wait a minute. What part of anything
of the ground between our two feet is not a
mission field? That's a lesson that Karen Cavell learned years ago.
She was drawn to recognizing the power of prayer in Hollywood.
(11:18):
Praying for those whom God had called into the entertainment industry,
but likewise also recognizing that there are people in the
industry who are worshipping false gods idols that just don't
last beyond the award season. And then you got to
start all over again. Your worth and value isn't determined
by how many gold statues you've got, but whether or
not you have a personal relationship with the living king. So,
(11:39):
as the founding director of the Hollywood Prayer Network, she
has encouraged people globally to be praying for the entertainment industry.
And that's what it is. It is a global prayer movement,
and I'm so grateful for the work that she does.
She puts out regular call sheets. They come out biweekly,
and I'm so grateful because they are clearly articulated praise
reports and things that we can do to pray for
(11:59):
people and about people, and it keeps us abreast of
what's going on in this very, very important ministry. So Karen,
always a delight. I always feel like our time goes
by too quickly, and I just thank you for what
you're doing, your steadfastness in doing it. Tell our friends
again how long the Hollywood Prayer Network has been ministering
in your part of the world.
S12 (12:17):
Oh my gosh, it's so great to be on Janet.
Thank you. We have been around since 2001, 24 years.
S1 (12:24):
Unbelievable. That's fantastic.
S12 (12:27):
We started the month before nine over 11. It was
a wild beginning.
S1 (12:31):
Wow. Unbelievable. And there are people who know you about
in the Christian community, obviously. But there are also people
who are not yet followers of Christ who also know
about your work, and they're drawn to the work that
you're doing, are they not?
S12 (12:45):
They are. It's so wild. I get more flak from Christians.
The non-believers are very touched that we want to pray
for them, that we care about them. And my whole
heart is not to pray against anybody, not to try
to change people, but to just honor God's creation and
ask God to come in and do what he needs
to do to make it more like him. So we
(13:08):
get great responses from people. I had a friend call
me saying that she was hurt, that I put in
somebody else in the industry and not her, and she
wondered why had I forgotten about her? And I'm like,
oh my goodness, no, I'm so sorry. I just can't
put everybody in every time.
S1 (13:24):
Oh how wonderful.
S12 (13:25):
Not a Christian. Isn't that funny?
S1 (13:27):
Oh, wow. But follows, you know, make them jealous. Draw them.
Oh thank you, thank you, thank you. It's so good. Well,
I want to talk about Butch Hartman first, because just
a whole lot of people know about Nickelodeon. But more importantly,
Butch is a member. a founding member, or part of
the Hollywood Prayer Network. Explain his connection and what's happening
with Butch now.
S12 (13:47):
Well, he was a producer at Nickelodeon and was the
head of quite a few shows that Nickelodeon produced and
spent a couple of decades there and felt like he
wanted to go out and do the projects that he,
as a Christian, really wanted to do. So he took
a risk when he was in a good place at
Nickelodeon and left and decided to start his own studios.
(14:08):
And it took, of course, longer than he thought. It
takes all of us longer to do longer. I'd say
twice as long and three times as much money. Right.
Isn't that usually what happens?
S1 (14:19):
Well. And go.
S12 (14:20):
Ahead. Ready to launch now? He's ready to launch a
new animation company. He's got a really good team of
professionals with him. And they're going to make the kind
of animation stories that that won't be changed by a
secular company.
S1 (14:34):
Amen. You know, I want to pause here for a
minute because I think this is just a general lesson
for the church writ large, which is you really have
to develop ethos, credibility in the marketplace. And so IndieWire
is not, by any stretch of the imagination a Christian publication,
but it is an industry publication. And so Butch gets
this headline. The fairly OddParents creator Butch Hartman launches faith
(14:55):
based animation studio for kids. Now, why am I belaboring it?
By reading what that headline was in the middle of May?
I'm doing it because, Karen, it is not that far
long ago where we would have been ridiculed, marginalized, made
fun of, and this is now saying you've got some cred.
We're in the marketplace of ideas. We're watching this one.
(15:15):
Let me tell you about what Butch is doing. That
doesn't happen overnight. It happens. Being steadfast and faithful and
true to the work that God has called you to,
it seems.
S12 (15:24):
Oh, it's so important that you say that, because what
we say is we've taken on the motto of young
life here in Hollywood, you have to earn the right
to be heard. And that's what Butch has done. He
was excellent at what he did, and he was open
about his faith along the way. He did not hide it,
but when he really wanted to step out. Now he's
a headline on on a, on a secular publication because
(15:47):
he's respected for his work. And I just want Christians
to not just think I need to do this because
God gave me the idea. But no, we need to
earn the right to be heard. And I get excited
about people who do.
S1 (16:00):
I do too, I do too. And again, I just
love the fact that, you know, we're not in the world.
We're we're we're in it, but we're not of it.
And he's earned this credibility to the point where an
industry magazine points out the fact and doesn't tiptoe around
using the words faith based animated projects. And that's again
because of the work that he did with Nickelodeon before.
You know, my first thought was always, you can create
(16:21):
a product, but as you know better than anyone, Karen,
if you don't have a distributor, your product sits on
the shelf. So I was curious to see if Bush
is going to have any kind of an outlet. And
I read in this IndieWire article that he's already secured
some distribution deals with Angel Studios, which is a fabulous
streaming platform if you don't have it. If you didn't,
if you saw King of Kings in the theater. Fabulous.
Can I just point out to my friend in the
(16:43):
West Coast that here in the East Coast, they actually
showed it at the Kennedy Center. Now, as someone who's
gone to the Kennedy Center for decades, that is so atypical,
I can tell you there were people in government who
were not yet believers who went, and they gave it
a standing ovation after the filmed air. It was a
sold out crowd. People absolutely loved it. And it was
King of Kings. And I've actually been praying for some
(17:05):
of the people who attended because I thought, Lord, you
said your word doesn't return void even though it was
done in animation. These members of the government names I'm
not going to name who were there had that seed planted. Lord,
may it be fertile soil and may they come to
know Christ as their personal Savior. So we're not talking
about cartoons. We're talking about, as Paul said, have become
all things to all people by any means possible, so
(17:27):
that some might be saved. So God bless Butch by
using any means possible, including animation to get out. Faith
based animation series that are going to be good for
families and, Lord willing, will impact the culture. I told you,
the time goes too fast. That's just one thing that
was in the biweekly call sheet. I'm going to come back.
We'll talk more after this. We're visiting with Karen Cavell,
(18:03):
who's the founding director of the Hollywood Prayer Network. I
noted earlier, and I want to underscore it again. This
is a global prayer movement. Don't pick up a stone
and throw it at Hollywood. And Karen taught me and
full credit to her, you cannot must not look at
the entertainment industry as Sodom and Gomorrah. Yes, yes, yes,
I will grant you. There's a lot of garbage that
comes out. But you know what? It is the marketplace
(18:26):
of ideas, is it not? When people are telling stories,
it's reflective of their worldview, their perspective. So if it
isn't biblical Biblio centric. There's going to be a lot
of stuff that comes out that's perverted. It's profane, I
get it. So we pray for those people and we
view it as not Sodom and Gomorrah, but as Nineveh,
and we pray for real revival. It is one of
the reasons why Karen, in her bi weekly call sheets,
(18:47):
which are prayer reminders that she will often lift up
someone who doesn't yet know the Lord as their Savior,
but asks us nonetheless to pray for them. And maybe
I just really resonate with that, because I love the arts,
and I love the way that you identify people who
could use our prayers. So, for example, you asked us
to pray for Audra McDonald. Can that woman sing or what?
(19:08):
Oh my.
S12 (19:08):
Goodness.
S1 (19:09):
Oh my. And Jake Gyllenhaal, if I could, I would
fly to New York and I would have front row
seats to say Jake Gyllenhaal and Denzel Washington in Othello
or Othello if you want to do the opera instead. So.
S12 (19:22):
Gyllenhaal, please join each other.
S1 (19:24):
I think that, oh, I bet the tickets are. You
couldn't probably get your hands on them. But the bottom
line is Denzel plays the lead character in Shakespeare's play,
and Jake Gyllenhaal plays Iago. If you know Shakespeare, you
know that that's a bad guy. And Audra is playing
Mama June in the musical version of Gypsy. And there
are some iconic actresses who have played that part. I
remember Angela Lansbury playing it and Ethel Merman playing it.
(19:46):
And in the movie. Well, who was it? It was,
it was it wasn't Rosalind Russell, was it? Who played
the lead in the movie? I can't remember, but.
S12 (19:52):
Oh my gosh. Who played it in the movie? Yeah,
it was amazing.
S1 (19:55):
Yeah, exactly.
S12 (19:56):
Should I have to look it up?
S1 (19:58):
I do too. That's exactly right. Who played the mom? But.
And it was Natalie Wood who played Gypsy. I remember
that in the movie. Anyway, I digress. Yes. Film trivia,
but the point is, they were written up in variety,
which I thought was interesting. And while both of them
played characters, that's it, that's it. Rosalind Russell, thank you
very much. So the bottom line is these two got
(20:19):
together and talked about the fact that they are playing stereotypically, quote,
evil characters, but they are looking for the good in
their characters nonetheless. Leave it to you, my dear friend,
to pick up on that. Talk to me about why
you put this on the call sheet for us to pray.
S12 (20:32):
Well, I did, because we we usually as Christians, separate
people who are Christians that we really like, but then
people who have talent that we really like, but we
never think to pray for the people with talent who
don't know the Lord. And so I want to highlight
the names of people who really are incredible talents given
from God, and ask us to lift them up and
(20:54):
to let God work through them personally, not just with
their talent. And so I like to do it with
people with names of people who really are household to
a lot of us. And so this is the way
I don't want to say on here, they need Jesus
or they're lost or they're bad. I want to say,
let's appreciate their talent. We know it's from God, and
let's lift them up so the Lord can do more
(21:15):
with them.
S1 (21:16):
Yeah, exactly. Right. Well, if Denzel Washington is true to form,
what we've learned over the years is that he will
often take whatever script he's got, and he makes notations
in the margins that are reflective of characters in Scripture,
which doesn't surprise me at all. Well, he'll have a
lot to work with with Othello, which will be great.
But because he's so unapologetic about his faith and recently
got baptized and got licensed to be a minister.
S12 (21:37):
Minister.
S1 (21:38):
Exactly. My guess is I bet he and Jake are
having a couple of interesting conversations, so that'll be one
to watch.
S12 (21:44):
Yes, it's so great.
S1 (21:47):
Talk to me about the layoffs at Disney. Why is
this happening?
S12 (21:50):
Oh my gosh, it is such a problem in our
industry as Disney is doing it because they are are
switching more. Well, some people say it's AI, some people
say it's more of promotions. Some people say it's because
they want to get people out of the expensive cities
and into cheaper places. I don't know the actual reason.
I just know that Bob Iger wants the board to
(22:13):
see that he is cutting out billions of dollars from
their expenses, and one way to do it is to
is to lay off people. So I had a quick
send a text to my son in New York who
works for Disney, Disney and said, did you are you
still working? You know, but what it does is everybody
(22:34):
at Disney is aware they have hundreds of thousands of employees,
and they just do a sweep sometimes to cut down
on their expenses to make the bottom line look better.
And this is one of those right here. So we
just want to pray for those families.
S1 (22:49):
Yeah. Regardless of their politics, there are still people who
have a job and they're trying to put bread on
the table. And this is, you know, the industry has
taken a hit in so many ways. When there's a
writers strike, there's a hit. When you've got Covid, there's
a hit. I mean, there are all of these things.
And yet Americans still clamor for entertainment, which I find
very interesting, just as a sidebar, because there you you
(23:10):
have a front row seat to what I think is
a fascinating cultural transition. Do you find it interesting, as
I do, Karen, that when you see a trailer to
a movie and it'll say in theaters Friday and then everywhere,
and it'll give a date maybe a week or two later,
so will that. Everywhere is code for it's going to
show up on your streaming platform And every time that happens,
I think, is that the death knell for brick and
mortar cinemas around the country? What's your take on that?
S12 (23:32):
Oh, well, I think that the time frame is getting
shorter and shorter and a lot of people are afraid
movies are going away. But I'm telling you, when you
get a mission impossible or when Top Gun came out
after nobody was going to the theater, people rushed to it.
I think there is a cultural phenomena of sitting in
a dark room with a lot of people and experiencing
(23:54):
something emotional. I think the movies will always be there.
What I do think has to shift is the prices
have to go down because they're just getting too expensive,
and it's easier and more comfortable and cheaper to just
be at home. You could literally get two months of
a streaming service for one movie ticket. So that's that's
a big difference. So I don't think it'll go away,
(24:15):
but I think there have to be some changes to
get more people to have an incentive to go.
S1 (24:20):
I agree. I absolutely agree. Fascinating stuff Karen. I just
absolutely love it. I want you all to become a
part of this global prayer movement. So just go to
Hollywood Prayer Network, Hollywood Prayer Network, sign up and become
a part. Particularly if you are a creative and you're
feeling isolated and not in a community of other people
that are creative. Oh, this ministry is so much for you.
(24:40):

much for the update. We'll be right back friends. The

with Janet Parshall. You know, we started out the hour
talking about what is going on in Israel again and
how Israel is saying that it has recovered. Sadly, the
bodies of two Israeli American hostages from the Gaza Strip.
We note also that the U.N. is pushing for a, quote,
not just a two state solution. They're going to in
(25:46):
a couple of days in June, they're going to try
to declare, quote, Palestinian Palestine as a state, which is
interesting because in order to have a state, you have
to have boundaries. And where would your boundaries be? And
in so doing, have you just unilaterally eradicated the nation
of Israel? So there's a lot of geopolitics that go on.
But the headlines that really matter are the ones that
are being made in heaven. And there is so much
(26:08):
under the story now, I tell you to keep watching
Israel because it's your northern star for prophecy. Okay? When
you realize that Israel became a nation in 1948, if
you didn't believe in prophecy up to that point, you
certainly had no excuses not to believe in it after that,
because this is what the fulfillment of Scripture was, the
establishment of the Zionist state, the nation of Israel. And
(26:29):
so there's a lot of back and forth and a
lot of tension. But in the midst of all of that,
there are people who are coming to faith in Jesus
Christ that is not going to show up on the
alphabet alphabet soup networks. But it's very imperative that we
understand there's always a story behind the story. And nobody
I mean, nobody understands that better than Tom Doyle. He
fell in love with the Middle East years and years
(26:50):
and years ago. He is a certified travel guide in Israel.
And why do I point that out? Because you don't
get online, put your name in a forum and get it.
It takes years of study to be able to do it.
Just think of the history, the past, the present. And
if you're a believer, the future history that you need
to know about the nation of Israel. But in so doing,
Tom really started to look at the entire Middle East,
not just Israel. And God's opened the door of opportunity
(27:12):
for him and his precious wife, Joanne, to really minister
in that part of the world. So he founded a
marvelous ministry called Uncharted Uncharted ministry's uncharted ministries. I love
this ministry. I want you to know about it. Go
to their website, watch the work that they're doing and
pray for them on a regular basis. Support them financially
because they are really, really, really the war correspondents of
(27:34):
what's going on, not just the war on the ground,
but the spiritual warfare that's taking place in that part
of the world. So, Tom, the warmest of welcomes, I
can't tell you how thrilled I am to be able
to talk to you. Now, let me just start with
some general observations. There isn't a day that goes by
that Israel is not in the news. If I were
to ask you today what your sense is, you know,
especially with this full court press, that the UN, which
(27:56):
is so anti-Israel, is about to engage in. I mean,
what does that mean for the nation of Israel? Netanyahu,
in his very typical and inimitable way, said, you're not
going to strong arm us. You're not going to tell
us what to do. So what's your impression at this point?
Because things are always changing.
S13 (28:10):
And Janet, thank you. Great to be on. And isn't it.
It's every day with Israel. It's something major. It's not
just like a small thing. We have the United Nations
saying they're going to force a Palestinian state when the
Palestinians have rejected it. I think it's 11 times. And
they're going to just force this and Buffalo through and
make Israel comply. And you know what? Who will scream
(28:34):
against it? The Palestinians. They won't be on the news.
But I guarantee you, the people in Gaza that we know,
the people in the West Bank that we know say
we don't want this. And a lot of them are
still Muslims. They don't want it. They love the freedom
they have in Israel. Sure, there is a war and
there's a lot of problems. But, you know, they don't
(28:55):
want to be under Hamas. They don't want to be
under the Palestinian Authority. They want to be under Israel.
And so there's going to be a great pushback. So
what are we just going to force these people to
do this? And it's going to get worse. It's going
to get worse. It's just going to cause more radicalism.
So who knows what's going to happen. But it's just
Israel again is in the vice grip. They just go
(29:17):
from one crisis to another. And this is a vise grip.
They've got a date. They've got a time. We're forcing
a Palestinian state. And whether you like it or not
well what country would undergo that and not fight back.
Exactly the same one that wouldn't you know. So, so anyway.
But it's fulfilling prophecy too. As we know, all the
(29:39):
nations are going to surround Israel like they're doing now.
S1 (29:42):
Cup of trembling. That's it.
S13 (29:44):
Yeah. It's right, that's right. So anyway, you hear these
things and you think, boy, is the UN just full
of a bunch of blowhards that just say they're going
to do stuff and they can't push to do it
because Israel's not going to comply with that, and neither
will we as a country.
S1 (30:03):
And just because the UN says abracadabra, we make it
so doesn't make it so. And Israel is certainly not
going to give up its sovereignty, nor should any sovereign
nation be able to do that, by the way. Right. So, Tom,
because you have boots on the ground, so to speak.
Let me ask you a question. You and I visit
a lot of the same websites, and they're not ones
that probably the majority of our listeners go to, but
they reveal other side to a coin that needs to
(30:25):
be talked about. I have watched Palestinians being beaten when
they were trying to get aid. I watched a man
today get rifle butted because he tried to take some
flour to feed his starving family. Israelis didn't do that.
Palestinians did that. The PLO did that. When they talk
about bringing aid in and the trucks get co-opted, US
aid that comes in, they get co-opted. Hamas takes it
(30:47):
over and then says, now we're going to sell it
to the Palestinian people, which, of course, don't have two
kopecks to rub together so they can't buy that. And
so I want you to underscore that, because when they
talk about the genocide and the atrocity and what's going on,
how come there's such a well, it's a rhetorical question
because as a believer, we know it's a spiritual war,
but there really is a purposeful blind eye and a
deaf ear to the atrocities being committed by Hamas against
(31:10):
the Palestinian people on a regular basis.
S13 (31:13):
Oh, and any voice against them is stifled. That doesn't
fit the narrative. As I was waiting for the call
from your team, I just got a text from Gaza
and this is some former Muslims that love the Lord
Jesus right now. They say that they've seen about 200
families come to faith in Christ.
S12 (31:32):
Wow.
S13 (31:32):
During. During the war. And how can that happen? They
say they're just asked all the time. Why do you
have such joy? Why do you have such love in
your heart? And you have a smile in your face?
And we're in the middle of war and there's bombs
blowing up and you're happy. Why is that? It's pretty good.
Pretty good testimony for the gospel, right?
S1 (31:52):
100%.
S13 (31:54):
And they're asking about a big food program. Can we
do a food distribution program? Because you hear on the news,
there's no starvation. They don't have anything going on. In
some areas. Things are good. In some areas things are bad.
But we all know the problem. It's Hamas. And so
our leaders in the Gaza Strip, the former Muslims, Muslim,
said this we have two enemies. Once we go out
(32:16):
of the tent, Hamas is number one, and number two
is all the people around us. Because there's thieves, there's rapists,
there's people that want to steal everything in our tent there.
And these are Palestinians. We have no problem with the IDF.
They're trying to protect us, but our own people are
trying to kill us. They're trying to kidnap our sons,
(32:38):
put them in Hamas, trying to kidnap our daughters, marry
them off. And so they see the problem. But somehow
that just doesn't get on the news. And it needs to.
It really needs to. There is a website, Voices of Gaza,
where they kind of fuzz up the voices and people
speak openly. And boy, you will get more news there
(32:58):
than you will on any of the channels on TV,
that's for sure. Because they talk openly. They're not afraid
of being discovered.
S1 (33:06):
So wow. And it's important, is it not, that we get,
as Paul Harvey said the rest of the story, because
what's happening to the Palestinian people by their own terrorist
governmental organization, uh, so tremendously important. And I'm glad that
you just gave that alternative site, because the reality is,
you know, our heart breaks for the Palestinian people in
(33:27):
the midst of this. But to constantly say that somehow
it's apartheid, it's a fault that's been done by the
Jewish people or the Jewish state when you don't travel.
Mark Twain said the best education is travel and how
right he is. You just need to go there to
understand how much is being made up against the nation
of Israel. But again, not a surprise because if you're
walking through life with the Bible in one hand, the
newspaper in the other, animus against the nation of Israel
(33:49):
should not come as a surprise. In the midst of
all of this, though, there are Palestinian believers, as you
talked about before. And boy, you talk about being undercover Christians.
I mean, if these people are not allowed to speak
out against Hamas, imagine speaking out saying, I follow Jesus.
I mean, you've built your own gallows to do that,
but you have a story of a new Muslim who
is a young woman in Gaza who suffered horrifically. Tell
(34:11):
me your story.
S13 (34:13):
Oh, yes. And we'll call her Shireen. And she's a
new believer, and she comes from a family where, one
by one, her Muslim family, they started coming to faith
in Jesus. And it ended up that she became a believer.
And she just has such a love for Jesus. So
here's the problem. She lives in a refugee camp, and
(34:34):
the refugee camps are dense, and a lot of terrorists
hang out in the refugee camps because they have more
cover there than they do just walking around in the
open city. And so you have no separation. You may
be in a tent and the tent next door to
you is is someone from Hamas. And so, unfortunately, uh,
there was an explosion and her husband and her 12
(34:58):
year old son were killed. So here's this woman that's
a new believer. And so we're immediately getting some updates
from Gaza. Please pray for her. Please pray for Shireen.
And so anyway, when she can finally pull herself together
a couple of weeks later, she sends a message and
she says, I know that Jesus is Lord, because if
(35:19):
it hadn't have been for him with his tragedy, I
would have gone insane.
S14 (35:25):
Oh, wow.
S13 (35:25):
Because it was perfectly avoidable. But it happened anyway. And
he has been here and I feel his arms around me.
I sense his love. Jesus is helping me through this.
She just lost her husband and her 12 year old son.
And if you could see a picture of him. Cutest
little guy, big, happy, smiling face. And and he's gone.
(35:47):
And so, so many horrible things are happening like that.
But she says all the credit goes to Jesus. He's
the one seeing me through. He truly is the good Shepherd.
S14 (35:57):
Wow.
S1 (35:58):
Just in general, because we always want to protect the
safety and security of our brothers and sisters. When something
like that happens, is there a community that can surround her.
Is there some kind of support system for her there?
S13 (36:10):
There is. There's, there's. We used to say underground believers.
Now we say secret believers. We don't want it to
sound like a tunnel. You know, there's secret believers that
are around her loving her. Yes.
S1 (36:21):
That's good news. Well, tell you what. Even if you
don't remember her name, God knows her name. Friend. So
would you lift her up? This terrible loss, but yet
so fresh in the faith. Newly now having her name
written in the Lamb's Book of Life. In the midst
of all of that she's dealing with and all that
she's lost, she knows Jesus is still Lord. That's why
I love Uncharted Ministries, because they're filled with stories like this.
(36:42):
Uncharted ministries COVID-19 Uncharted Ministries. Com. Tom Doyle is our guest.
We're going to take a break. We've got more after this.
What a joy always to talk with Tom Doyle. He
founded Uncharted Ministries back in 2017. But all of it
(37:04):
emanates from his long years of serving the Lord in
the Middle East, and he has such a heart for people. Period.
Notice I didn't put a category in front of it,
and he moves beautifully between communities, by the way, both
Arab and Jewish and Christian communities back and forth. And
that that's a testament to who Tom is and the
ethos and the pathos that he has as well. And
I can give you evidence to that end by the
(37:26):
next story we're going to talk about. So if you've
been to Israel, you know that the Hasidim, um, are
very strict, uh, when we often talk about the anti-missionary
laws that get introduced in the Knesset, they emanate, unfortunately,
out of some of the more Orthodox parties. Thanks be
to God that Benjamin Netanyahu has stopped that. Unlike in
the United States, a bill has to become a law
(37:47):
in Israel, when it's read three times through in the Knesset.
It doesn't happen here in the United States. And he
stopped it. So we're very grateful for that. And you
would think that there would be some resistance. And there is,
in fact, particularly the Orthodox, oftentimes against the Messianic Jews.
So spiritual warfare, that's all this is. That's spiritual warfare
in a nutshell. But if I can quote a line
from Fiddler on the roof. Wonder of wonders, miracles of miracles. Why?
(38:10):
Why are Orthodox Jews reaching out to uncharted?
S13 (38:14):
Yeah. Oh my gosh, what days we're living in. Right, Janet?
My goodness. Yes. Well, you know what? I mean, look
at Israel being a nation since 48. Major war every decade,
never peace. How how are things going to change between
them and the Muslims? Is the UN going to pull
it off? That hasn't worked. What can happen? And Orthodox Jews,
(38:36):
the first thing I saw was an Orthodox Jew that
wrote a story in one of the newspapers in America,
and I can't remember, I can't recall it. But anyway,
he said, what Gaza needs is a big dose of Jesus.
And this was an Orthodox Jew.
S1 (38:53):
Was his name Nicodemus, by any chance?
S15 (38:55):
That's right. Yeah, right. Yeah. And I would have to
say I, I.
S13 (38:58):
Wholeheartedly agree with him. And so anyway, um, he actually
reached out to us and said, we want to do
a partnership in Gaza. We think that's the answer, and
we're orthodox. We know you're you know, you're evangelical Christians,
but we don't think there's anything that changes them. The
only thing we've seen that's changed them is Jesus. What
(39:20):
do you think about doing something together? We've had some
others that have reached out, and it. And it just
reminds me, Janet, we were going in years ago into
Gaza to launch an Awana club. There's one evangelical church
that we're going to launch, the Awana club. We had
the you know, you can't just wander into Gaza. You
have to have permission from the Israeli government. And sure enough,
(39:43):
we had it. We had it on paper. And the
soldiers said to our team of 20, you're not coming in.
And we said, well, we have permission. And he said, no,
it's too dangerous. I can't let you in. And I said, well,
is there going to be an incursion? Is Israel going in?
He goes, well, I can't tell you that if we're
doing that, but I'm not letting you in. I said, yeah,
but the government said we could we we really want
to go in and help these people. He said, I
(40:04):
don't care if it's signed by Bibi Netanyahu himself. I'm
not letting you in. I said, okay. So we pulled
our little team over about five feet from him. It
was a small room and we prayed, Lord, give us
the words. And I went out and this is what
came out of my mouth, Janet. I wasn't rehearsed. Hey, look.
(40:24):
You're Jewish. I'm Christian. And when the Muslims get converted
to following Jesus and and fall in love with him,
they don't blow up your buses anymore.
S15 (40:35):
And he just stopped.
S13 (40:37):
And he said, well, go convert them all, brother.
S15 (40:41):
And he let us in. What a story. Orthodox Jewish brother.
S13 (40:47):
He calls me go convertible. We're in, we're in. And
you know, I think that is one thing that is
refreshing about the Israelis. And, you know this, Janet, from
being there. They're pragmatists. If it works, do it. Okay.
Stay away from the synagogues. Go to the mosques, please.
And so they are seeing the place of how Jesus
(41:11):
can transform someone, not just save him, but transform him.
And they're a different person.
S15 (41:17):
You know.
S13 (41:17):
One of my, our friends, Mahmoud, that has the Shema
on his tattoo on his forearm that after he came
to faith in Christ in Gaza, got out, was in
the West Bank, got in Jerusalem and got the Shema
tattooed on his arm so he could witness to Jewish
people and tell them, I used to hate you and
wanted to kill you, but now I love you and
(41:38):
it's all because of Jesus. He's the Jewish Messiah, you know.
And so, yeah.
S1 (41:45):
I, I rue the fact that I always go, I'm amazed,
and I shouldn't be.
S15 (41:50):
Because.
S1 (41:51):
He's God. We shouldn't be amazed. You know, we part
sees he closed the mouths of lions. You know, he
can run a pillar of fire at night. And so
when the door opens. Who opens it? But the Lord. Right.
So none of that comes as a surprise, by the way,
just general pullback. So our friends understand, um, again, not
putting anybody at risk. But we should point out that
there are Palestinian believers, there are Jewish believers. And very
(42:13):
often they are friends with one another. I will never.
S15 (42:16):
Forget.
S1 (42:16):
Talking to some Jordanian believers. Um, and I asked him,
I said, what happens? You know, if there's going to
be some kind of an incursion? He said, when the
day comes, not if when the day comes, we will
meet with our Palestinian and Jewish brothers and sisters, and
we already know where we're going to gather for safety.
So this is how far ahead they've planned, knowing that
(42:37):
they're going to be tough days ahead. But the point is,
how many? And if I've heard five, you've heard 5000
of the testimonies of people who can say I was
raised generationally in words like this to hate the Jews.
They come to faith in Christ, and it's like a mask.
It gets taken off of their eyes. Their generational hatred
just dies on the spot with the relationship with Jesus.
(42:58):
Give me some stories about that, because you've seen that
over and over again.
S13 (43:02):
Oh, yeah. I mean, one of one of the one
of the first Palestinian missionaries to the West is someone
that grew up hating Israel, hating Jews, came to faith
in Christ. God just straightened him out. His best friend
in Israel is a Jewish believing rabbi, and they they
(43:22):
used to meet at the fence in Gaza and pray together.
One was Palestinian, the other Jewish. And and they would
laugh and say, yeah, we used to hate each other.
He was in the Israeli Defense Forces. I was one
of those kids throwing rocks at him, you know, and
trying to pick a fight and get on the evening news.
That's where we were. Jesus saved us both, and we're
(43:44):
the best of friends. And for our team, when we
were there, Janet, to see those two with their arms
around each other, one has the yarmulke on, the other
is obviously Arab, and they're praying with outstretched hands over Gaza.
I'm telling you, there wasn't a dry eye in the group.
They just thought, this is the answer. This has to
be the answer.
S1 (44:05):
Exactly, exactly. Wow. That's the story behind the story. I
was talking about. Friends. That's the headline. You're not going
to get that on the alphabet soup networks. But that's
really what the story is. So that's why I want
you to pray for and become involved with and support
Uncharted Ministries, because this is the work that they're doing.
They help build those bridges, by the way. Uncharted ministries,
(44:27):
uncharted ministries, by the way, Tom's a wonderful and prolific author.
I picked just one for your perusal. It's called Dreams
and Visions. Is Jesus awakening the Muslim world? That is
a rhetorical question because it's happening constantly. So go to
the website, learn more about the work that Tom and
Joanne are doing, and pray for this ministry, and pray
for the stories that you just heard. Because let's pray
(44:48):
that they're more like them coming in the future. Blessings
to you. Dear Tom, thanks for being with us. Thanks, friends.
We'll see you next time.
