Ever found yourself sizing up your life against someone else's Instagram highlight reel? It's a universal struggle!

As a physical therapist, I've seen firsthand how this tendency can either kickstart a person's journey to better health, or trap them in a cycle of negativity and self-doubt.

I share the article from Liz White, " 7 Effective Strategies to Overcome Constant Self-Comparison," from Psychology Today.

With thousands of subconscious thoughts racing through our minds daily, it's vital to sift through the noise and focus on what truly matters—our individual health journey, distinct and unrushed.

Bettina M Brown (00:07):
Hello, hello.
This is Bettina from In theRising Podcast.
This is a quick short that Iwanted to talk about some
strategies to overcome yourconstant self-comparison.
I'm basing it off the articleLiz White, who's a clinical
psychologist.
In this article posted inPsychology Today, and especially
as we're looking about healthand what we look like in regards

(00:28):
to our health, we can oftencompare.
What I have noticed as aphysical therapist is people
will often comment on the personnext door, the person down the
street, the cousin or the unclethat was just in better shape
and who had done this and that, and that constant comparison can
be a really good or reallyignite your health journey.

(00:49):
But it can also bring you down, and so we want to recognize
that comparing can be a habit wewant to share and look at our
lives, and that's definitelywhat social media does.
But why are we comparing?
Is it to fit in?
Is it because we're wanting tocriticize ourselves?
Is it because we have such anegative body image or view of

(01:09):
our self and our life and haveso many regrets that we want to
constantly compare?
We want to make sure we'recomparing for the right reasons.
Is this an automatic thing thatI'm doing, or am I comparing?
To look at things in a positiveway, to get a goal set in mind.
And we have to manage thatinner critic because you know

(01:31):
what?
We can be so hard fromourselves and we have thousands
and thousands and tens ofthousands of negative thoughts
that we are not even aware of.
So we want to really broadenthat view of ourselves, realize
that we're not less than that.
We're created just to be us.
And so when you're goingthrough your own health journey,

(01:51):
remember that you can also giveyourself the time it takes to
move through your health at yourpace for your life.
Until next time, let's keepbuilding one another up.
