Ever found yourself obsessing over the details, like how clean your pot is, only to realize there's another side to the story?

Khevin Barnes, a male breast cancer survivor, graces our podcast with an enlightening conversation about his extraordinary encounter with this life-altering disease and the unexpected life lessons he gleaned from it. He connects the dots between the thoroughness of scrubbing cookware and his personal scrutiny of his mastectomy scar, weaving a profound metaphor for his experiences. His narrative isn't just about the claws of fear and the specter of cancer's return but also about the unwavering hope and deep-seated gratitude for the life he continues to lead.

Bettina M Brown (00:07):
Hello, hello and welcome to this.
In the Rising Short I wanted toshare with you something that I
read from Kevin Barnes FindingCancer Survival Lessons in
Unexpected Places.
So Kevin describes his ownjourney with male breast cancer
and how he looked at evaluatinghis journey by being in the

(00:30):
kitchen and cleaning the pot andhe had cleaned it and his wife
came in and said it's not reallyclean, and then turns it over
and starts cleaning that partand he says no, whatever, looks
at that bottom and then herealizes that there is a lesson
with this, that there are reallytwo bottoms.
So, yes, he was evaluating andlooking at his mastectomy scar

(00:53):
and constantly thinking aboutwhether or not cancer had
returned.
He had a fear of dying too soon, but he realized that he also
had one intact male breast there.
He had a lot of wonderfulreasons to be hopeful and
grateful and then he knew hislife could be long and

(01:14):
fulfilling.
And so while it is important tomake sure incredibly important
to make sure that we're ashealthy as we can be and want to
have the absolute cleanest potand have that wonderful bottom,
is also realizing the otherthing that there is still so
much to live for.
And when we look at what isstill there.
It can help us look at our lifethrough the flip side, as Kevin

(01:39):
says, and continue your questfor healing, but not forget that
there is an upside, right now, this moment.
So thanks for being here onthis In the Rising Short and
let's keep building one anotherup.
