His name is a really funny guyand this is his podcast. In Your
Rise, Fletcher, Thanks for tuningin, everybody. It's in the RYE
Podcast with Kurt Fletcher. I'm KurtFletcher doing another late nights recording here.

(00:28):
It's been a while, so it'sbeen pretty busy last couple of months.
It feels like it's been a coupleof months since I've done one. Probably
has a couple of announcements real quick. You can vote for me. It's
New Mexico Entertainment Awards websites. I'mone of the top comedians in the category.

(00:50):
You can vote for me for bestComedian. To go to their websites,
which I don't know what it isbecause I didn't write it down,
but if you google New Mexico EntertainmentAwards, you can find their website and
you can vote for all the differentcategories, including best Comedian. There's about
twenty comics on there. Like Isaid, and go vote for me if

(01:15):
you want. Also go vote formy buddy's band, Anesthesia. They're up
there in one of the categories.A lot of my friends are in a
bunch of different categories, so prettyexcited to see who wins. All these
categories. I also have a newwebsite for the podcast in Thewrye podcast dot

(01:37):
Com. It's up now. Youcan go check it out. It's got
all the episodes on there, allthe audio ones are on there, and
then it has a link to thevideo ones on YouTube, or you can
just go to YouTube and watch those. Also, my Open Bar Comedy Special

(02:00):
will be released October twenty third.Just found out about that not too long
ago. That'll be on their YouTubepage. Excuse me, so, yeah,
my Open Bar Special which I recordedat the Looney's Comedy Club in Colorado
Springs back in February. It's justgonna be like a little thirty minute special

(02:23):
that we recorded, and it's abunch of old material that I don't want
to do anymore. So it's kindof fun to do some of those jokes
that I hadn't done in a while, and then some jokes I just don't
want to do anymore. So that'llbe out October twenty third. Let's see

(02:44):
tour dates I got coming up.I got some local gigs here in May
and then June seventh and eighth,I will be at Hyena's Comedy Club in
Dallas, Texas. With Punky Johnsonfrom Saturday Night Live. June fourteenth and
fifteen. I will be at Hyena'sComedy Club in Fort Worth, Texas with

(03:05):
Matthew Brossard. July sixth, Iwill actually be at Casada's Comedy Club here
in Bernole, Yo. I willactually be headlining the early show. It's
a Saturday night July sixth, I'llheadline the early show seven o'clock, and
then I'll also be on the lateshow, the nine thirty show as well.

(03:29):
But it'd be cool if a lotof you came out to see me
headline that club. I'd be badass. I don't think the tickets are on
sale yet. Last I checked, they were not. I'm gonna check again
right now just to make sure Idon't think they are bound. I also

(03:50):
have July twenty sixth at the BrittBar and Grill, which is in Britt,
Iowa. Hobotown not Homotown. HoboTown is what it's called. I've
done a show there before it wasreally fun. And then I'll also be
in my hometown the next night,July twenty seventh. Claring And, Iowa

(04:10):
place is called Chappie's on Maine,so I'm excited to do some shows in
Iowa. I'm trying to line upsome more too while i'm there, and
then I'm going to Canada. Youguys going to Canada for my first time
ever. October twenty one through thetwenty sixth. I will be headlining at
the Comedy Cave in Calgary, Alberta, which I'm super excited about. Calgary

(04:33):
seems like a cool town. I'vehad some people tell me it's a cool
town. I've never been there,so just taking their word for it,
and then I'll report back to youif I think it's a cool town or
not. All right, let's talkabout what's been going on. I've had
quite a few shows since I lastpodcasted. I think the last podcast was

(04:56):
a solo one back in March,So since then, I did uh.
I did a gig at the endof the Mountain Gods, which is a
fun casino spot. I got tosee an old friend of mine come down
for that show, and I gottatake AJ Martinez with to open for me.
That was a lot of fun.Aj is very funny. I need

(05:18):
to get him on the podcast soon. I thought i'd had him on before
and I was looking through my list, and I haven't had him on,
so I'll get him on soon hopefully. He and I actually performing at Turtle
Mountain Rio Rancho May eighteenth. Cometo that if you're in the area May
eighteenth. I also I did uh. I did some shows at Casadas with

(05:46):
Willie Barsena, and I was onlydoing shorter sets. My buddy Black Mike
was hosting. I was doing ten, and then uh, Willie's opener was
doing ten DJ of Asquez and thenWillie would do his time, just mostly
an hour. But it's cool toget to see Willie. I hadn't never

(06:10):
met him before, so it wascool to see him and very funny dude.
It's nice being DJ as well.I didn't got to see much of
his show because he was only doingten minutes and I didn't want to go
out in the green or not inthe show room. And I'd watched the
show after my set. So whatelse did I do? I just sat

(06:33):
a Turtle Mountain. I actually Ihosted the show so my buddy Eddie could
headline. That was fun Eddie Stevensfunny dude. Oh yeah. I went
to I went to Reno with mybuddy Tim Gather. We did the Laugh
Factory. Hadn't been there in acouple of years, so it's cool to

(06:54):
get back there and doing the shows. The shows are actually really good,
the best shows I've had there.Sometimes the shows can be pretty weird.
You usually get like some weird hecklinggoing on. It's like the club is
in the casino, so I feellike a lot of the people there are

(07:17):
pretty drunk going into the show already, and then they drink throughout the show
also and usually just get some weird, weird hecklers. This time wasn't too
bad though. I don't really recallany terrible hecklers or anything like that.

(07:39):
And the shows overall are pretty fun. And at Thursday through Sunday maybe we
did six shows. You can seehim and the host was Steven Robert's very
funny dude from Vegas. We hadworked with him before there, and man,
I got superstone night. Usually Ius I'm pretty lightweight, so I

(08:05):
take like a small amount availables, usually two point five milligrams as all,
and one night I decided to takefive. I was like, yeah,
I can handle it, let's dofive after the Saturday shows. And we're
sitting there as a restaurant we alwaysgo eat at after the shows and stuff
and hang out and kind of justtalk shit and get stoned and everything.

(08:31):
But yeah, that five milligrams kickedmy ass. I had a hard time
getting back to my hotel room, which was only a few minutes away.
I don't know I'm talking about that. Yeah, so Reno was fun.
There was also a big wrestling tournamentgoing on. It was like a lot

(08:54):
of kids wrestling, and one ofmy friends kids was actually wrestling, and
my friend wasn't able to make it, so I went and watched his kid
wrestle on Saturday morning. His songot third place. That was pretty cool.
I gotta watch him wrestle to matches. I gotta see him and his
uh his metal matches and stuff likethat. So that was cool to watch.

(09:18):
Got to see a kid from FortDodge, Iowa win a title also,
that was pretty cool. Yeah,it was pretty fun to watch the
ternam It's kind of funny. There'sa guy I had met. Uh.
It's a lot of the wrestlers andthe families were staying in the same hotel
as us. It's the venue islike pretty much right across the street,

(09:39):
so you know, me and meand Tim are big wrestling fans. We
have a wrestling podcast, Stop StyllingPodcast. Listen to it. So it's
cool. We got to meet likea lot of cool uh you know,
wrestlers and wrestlers families and stuff likethat. And there's one guy I met
on the elevator and I was asking, you know, how his kid was

(10:01):
doing in the tournament and stuff, and he said the tournament was going a
lot better than the Tulsa tournament.Tulsa is a big tournament too. He
said he got disqualified for swearing atthe ref though. That was kind of
funny. And then the next dayI see that kid. I think he
was wrestling for third place and helost, and then I could just hear

(10:26):
his dad like just yelling at himlike crazy, like behind me, like
they're sitting a couple of rows behindme, and he was just I mean,
the kid was probably eight or nineyears old and his dad is just
ripping into him like just you know, like saying shit like there's a national
tournament blah blah blah, like justyelling at him, swearing at him.

(10:46):
And was like, no, wonderyou got disqualified, you dickhead. Oh
man, I don't know. Ijust felt bad for the kid. You
know, he's like eight or nineyears old. It's like, I get
that it's a national tournament, butholy shit, as a kid, I
don't know. So that was weird. I just I don't know. I

(11:09):
couldn't sit there too long. SoI heard a lot of dads like that,
like not as bad as that guy, but just yelling at their kids
and stuff like that. As Icalmed down, Man, I don't know.
Maybe my dad would have been likethat if he went to any of
my sporting events. I don't know. I don't think you went to a
little single little league game I played. I played forty five little little league

(11:33):
games and played for the Giants, the Giants every year. He never came
to a goddamn game. But that'sfor me and my therapist to talk about.
Let's see. Yeah, So Renowas a good time. And then
I just got back. A coupleof weeks ago, I went to Iowa.

(11:56):
I went to des Moines. Iwas at the Funny Bone des Moine.
It was my first time featuring there. I'd been there a couple of
times, the host and stuff. So then go visit my family. This
time I got a feature with Tim. This just did one show Friday,
one show Saturday. I flew ina few days early to hang out with

(12:16):
some family. I gotta hang outwith my cousin Damian and his wife Amy,
and then their daughter had a graduationparty, so I gotta go to
that's. That was pretty cool.I gotta see a lot of family there,
and then I got to hang outwith my cousin Devin and his wife
Tammy and their kids and stuff. For a few days. Went mushroom hunting.

(12:37):
That's a big thing in Iowa.I wish it wasn't so. It
was awful. Like I'd been mushroomhunting before and it was pretty fun.
I went up near Fort Dodge onetime and I actually found quite a few
mushrooms that time. But this time, me and Devon went to this pretty

(12:58):
woodsy area for three hours and wefound one mushroom and it sucks. It
was hot out. We walked througha lot of shitty, shitty stuff,
ripped my hat, Devin tore hisarms up pretty bad, he got cut

(13:18):
a lot, got some ticks. It was this shitty experience. We should
have went fishing, for sure.So next time I'm there and that's mushroom
season. I'm not going. PlusI'm not a huge fan of eating the
mushrooms. Like those ones are prettygood, but I don't know. So
we split that one mushroom between sixof us and it was pretty good.

(13:41):
Yeah, we didn't really now.The shows were fun though. The shows
were great. Friday and Saturday oneshow each. Like I said, usually,
you know, they have three comics, but they didn't. It was
just me and Tim. It's atwo man show, which is kind of
weird, but you know, wedealt with it. You know. It's

(14:03):
not always the funnest like going upcold, you know. But we had
a good crowds. A lot offriends and family showed up, which was
awesome. A lot of people camein from out of town, which was
cool. I had some friends driveall the way from Forest City down to

(14:24):
the show, which is a prettylong drive. We see. I gotta
hang out with some friends from highschool and then I grew up with you
know, until like four or fivein the morning and had a good time.
Then I was supposed to get upat seven thirty. Me and Tim
were supposed to do a radio interviewand Tim didn't wake up. I was

(14:45):
awake, even though I was uptill five, but we messed that interview
it. It was cool Saturday nights. Uh. Some more family came down,
a couple of friends that I wentto high school with. Also,
Oh yeah, it's crazy to seeingpeople from high school that he hadn't seen
since high school. Some of themlook exactly the same. That's pretty cool.

(15:11):
Yeah, it was. It wasa good time. Saw a cousin
I hadn't seen in probably thirty plusyears since we were youngins, so it
was cool to see him again. And I don't know, it just meant
a lot to me that these peoplecame all the way down there just to
you know, catch a show,So I thought that was pretty cool.

(15:33):
It's not very many of them livingto Moine, so that was that was
pretty awesome that they drove all theway down there or up there or whatever
down there mostly But yeah, thankyou for coming out to those you guys.
And I'll be back in Iowa inJuly. Like I said earlier,
trying to line up some more showshopefully, but right now I've got the

(15:56):
twenty sixth in Britain, twenty seventhClarion, so hopefully a lote have some
more stuff. I thought I hadmore to talk about on this episode,
but I really don't excited to seehow my special turns out though. You
know, it was just a thirtyminute set and we recorded two sets.

(16:17):
The first one sucked, so Ihope they don't use that one. I
told them to use the second one, so hopefully they will first of one.
It is just kind of I waskind of sloppy because there was like
a lot of jokes I hadn't donein a long time, and I didn't
really know where to put them andstuff like that, and so in between
shows, I really worked on myset list and figured things out. And

(16:41):
I don't know, second show isa lot smoother, probably a better crowd
too, Just I don't know, had some hacklers and stuff, but I
feel like I dealt with them allright, So excited to see how that
turns out. Be nice to retiresome of that material too. Yeah that's
all I wrote down to my littlestupid note card. I think, um,

(17:04):
yeah, get tickets see me beit h Hyenas and Dallas and Fort
Worth in June. Casada is Julysixth, and then if I know anyone
in Canada, which I don't thinkI do, but come catch a show.
I do have a lot of coolguests lined up. I know I
always say that, but I do, and I'm gonna try to record quite

(17:29):
a few here at the in themonth of May, since I don't have
many gigs going on. So um. So that's it for now. I'll
leave it at this. Check outthe new website in the Rye podcast dot
com. Go to Funny Fletcher dotcom for all my tour dates and ticket
links and shit like that. Alsothanks to Jared Reddick from Bowling for Soup

(17:52):
for intro music. I'm actually goingto see Bowling for Soup June first.
I think it is First or Sightone of those nights. They're doing a
thirty year anniversary show down in Texasright before I'm at Hyenas, so I'm
gonna go to that. So thanksfor the intro music. Thanks to John

(18:14):
Singleton from Anesthesia for the outro music. Go go for Anesthesia the New Mexico
Entertainment Awards. That's it for now. Thanks everybody for tuning in. We
will hopefully have an awesome guest foryou next time. Talk to you later. Bye,
