Speaker 1 (00:07):
His name is Urs, a really funny guy, and this
is his podcast. In your Rise Envy Ride poster Fletcher.
Speaker 2 (00:19):
Hey, everybody, thanks for tuning in. It's in the RYE
Podcast with Kurt Fletcher. I'm Kurt Fletcher this episode eighty six.
I'm doing a solo one today. I was supposed to
have a J daileon on last week and my internet
kind of shit out on me, so I will record
one with aj next week. I just wanted to do
(00:40):
a solo one today. Probably won't be very long. None
of my solo ones are. I am currently in Reno, Nevada.
I don't know if you can hear some douchebag driving
all idiotically.
Speaker 3 (00:56):
Anyway, I'm in Reno.
Speaker 2 (00:57):
Got a sweet view of the National Bowling Museum, which
is where they actually filmed Kingpin part of it there.
If you've never seen the movie Kingpin, stop watching the
podcast right now. Go watch Kingpin, then come back to this.
Kingpin is probably one of my top five favorite funny
(01:18):
movies of all time.
Speaker 3 (01:22):
It's one of my favorite parts about.
Speaker 2 (01:23):
Coming to Reno's punning that out to people like, hey,
Kingpin was filming over here. I also have a sweet
view of the baseball field. I can see the Reno
aces out there practicing for their game, so it's pretty cool.
You can see the whole town from here, pretty much,
pretty nice view. I met the Laugh Factory this week
(01:46):
June and twenty sixth through the twenty ninth. I don't
know when this will be released, so I don't know.
I do have a big announcement though, Yeah, I already
posted on social media, but I'll be headlining at Quesada's
Comedy Club on August second, Saturday night, seven o'clock. Pretty
excited for this. You know, I've been doing stand up
(02:07):
in Albuquerque since August fifth, two thousand and one, and
it's really hard to move up at your home clubs
like I started at last comedy club, you know, started
out as an open micer, moved up to hosting. The
only show I ever featured there was actually I did
(02:31):
feature a few times. I had to fill in for
a couple of guys who got sick and stuff like
Joe Bartnet got stick there one time couldn't talk, so
I got a fill in for him. Do a future spots,
and the last show that we ever had it laughs
was New Year's Eve two thousand and eight, I gotta
(02:51):
feature that show. So yeah, I've headlined a bunch of
shows in Albuquerque breweries and stuff like that and other venues.
But like a big comedy club, this is you know,
it's pretty exciting. So hopefully, uh, you know, hopefully I
can sell that place out.
Speaker 3 (03:11):
I'd like to do that.
Speaker 2 (03:13):
I don't know if I know three hundred people, but uh,
let's do it. It's see, it's three hundred people, let's
sell it out. The cool thing about that also, uh,
they're having a dueling piano show afterwards, So if you
go to my show, you can go see dueling pianos.
If you've never seen a dueling piano show, it's pretty fun.
I went to one in Fort Worth, Texas one time,
(03:33):
and it's pretty entertaining. Seah, I get the tickets now.
You can go to Casadas dot com or you can
go to my website Funny Fletter dot com. I've got
a link on there that'll take you to Quesadas dot com.
Might be a little easier on there, I don't know.
Uh anyway, Yeah, so if you're in Albuquerque, if you
(03:56):
know anyone in Albuquerque, tell them to come to that show.
It's Saturday August seconds, seven o'clock. My pals Eddie Stevens
and aj Martinez are both gonna open the show, so
it's gonna be a kick ass lineup. Man, It's a
It's been a busy, busy summer since this is my
(04:17):
last podcast. I went to Denver. I was dog sitting
for my buddy Don Morgan and lined.
Speaker 3 (04:24):
Up some shows.
Speaker 2 (04:24):
While I was there, I gotta do a headline spot
at a place called Narley's which is in Golden Colorado.
Speaker 3 (04:32):
Excuse me.
Speaker 2 (04:34):
Narley's is super cool. It's a new venue. It's an
upstairs venue, super huge stage, really cool layouts. Not a
huge crowd or anything, but we had a fun show.
All the comics on the show were really funny. So
that's a cool place. We ever get a chance to
(04:57):
go check out a show, go check it out. They've
got a lot of cool, like old school like toys
from like my childhood in there, so I guess the
owner also has like a toy museum. So I didn't
check out the toy museum, but hopefully next time I'm
in Denver, I'll get to a lot of like old
school like Ninja turtles and things like that. Plus I
(05:17):
have some arcade games that you could play for free,
so that's cool. I also did three sets at the
Denver Comedy Lounge, which I always love. Met some really
cool comics there. I met a comic from Houston, ko A.
Genty was his name, and he was the headliner for
(05:38):
those shows. Super nice guy. I had really fun shows there.
I gotta see some old friends. There's also a guy
named Kurt Fletcher there. The dude's been following me on
Instagram for a while and decided to come check out
a show. And he came up after the show and
introduced himself, which was awkward.
Speaker 1 (06:00):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (06:01):
And he pulled out his ID and showed me his name,
Kurt Fletcher.
Speaker 3 (06:06):
Uh, so it was kind of cool.
Speaker 2 (06:09):
And then Sunday I was able to do a show
called Thick Skin at the Comedy Works in Denver.
Speaker 1 (06:16):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (06:16):
If you've never been to the Comedy Works in Denver,
holy shit.
Speaker 1 (06:21):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (06:22):
In my opinion, it's the best club in the country.
I haven't been to every club in the country. I've
been to a lot, and it's the best that I've
ever been to. There's some really good ones I've been to,
but uh, that's probably probably my favorite one in the country,
no doubt. Actually it definitely is. And uh yeah it
(06:46):
was a sold out show on a Sunday night. I
don't know what the capacity is, three hundred people something
like that.
Speaker 3 (06:52):
Uh you know.
Speaker 2 (06:53):
I did a seven minute set, great set, super fun
to do. Got run into some Denver comics I didn't
know very well that were on the show. Had a
good time. Steve Gillaspie was on the show. Super funny dude.
I've always been a fan of his. So yeah, it
(07:14):
was a cool, cool lineup. It's a fun show. They
do a they do a thing where they have the
uh shittiest tattoo, so people in the audience can come
up on stage and show their tattoos and whoever has
the shittiest one they.
Speaker 3 (07:29):
Give a gift card.
Speaker 2 (07:32):
To get it removed, which is pretty funny. So yeah,
Denver was a blast. Only did the three or I
guess I did five shows three nights.
Speaker 3 (07:45):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (07:45):
I gotta hang out with my buddy Dennis a lot,
and that was cool. Wrote some stuff with him. He's
not a comedian, but he used to used to do
stand up with me, and I've known him for about
twenty five years almost now. We used to work together
at Papa John's and then I used to write together
(08:07):
all the time. So it's cool seeing him. Denver's always fun.
I always loved going to Denver and going back pretty soon,
so hopefully I'll line up some more shows. After Denver,
I came home for a couple of days. Uh, Tom
Arnold was performing at Caesada's and Uh, I've always been
a Tom Arnold fan. I grew up in Iowa. Tom
(08:28):
grew up in Iowa. Both big Hawkeye fans. He was
uh when I when I wanted to do stand up comedy,
I wanted to do stand up since I was a kid.
And Uh, learning that Tom was from Iowa and then
he was a comedian, you know, that kind of gave
me some hope that I could do it.
Speaker 3 (08:46):
You know.
Speaker 2 (08:46):
I was like, uh, Tom could do it, He's from Iowa,
maybe I could do it too, you know.
Speaker 3 (08:50):
So that was cool.
Speaker 2 (08:51):
Gotta see him perform, Gotta meet him afterwards, chat with
him for a couple of minutes. I was rambling like
a little dipshit, but he was cool. He was super cool.
Gotta take some photos with him. Uh, and uh, yeah
it was this a It is a cool moment for me.
(09:15):
Usually I don't get starstruck too easily. You know, I've
been doing this for a long time, and uh, I
don't know. I got a little starstruck with him, so
I was kind of rambling like a dummy. So uh,
he probably thought I was a jackass, but whatever. So yeah,
I met Tom Marnold. A couple days later, I flew
to Minneapolis. UH did the Looms on the Lake Comedy Festival.
(09:38):
So I was supposed to host one of the shows.
Was like the first show of the festival was a
Wednesday at five o'clock. I was supposed to host it,
but a couple of the people didn't show up, so
I actually entered into the contest. I didn't advance in
the contest, which sucked, but uh, I feel like I
had a pretty good set, and uh, I gotta see
(09:59):
uh a lot.
Speaker 3 (10:00):
Of great comics.
Speaker 2 (10:01):
Like just all week, I just watched uh so many shows.
I watched most of the contests, so I gotta see
all the comics in the contest. Plus I had some
big names there, like I saw Jason Stewart, who I
had uh performed with in LA before. I didn't get
to see his headline set at the festival, but I
got chat with him for a little bits. I gotta
(10:24):
see Mary Mac who I hadn't seen since she was
like starting out. She came to Laughs in Albuquerque like
in the mid two thousands, and uh, she has gotten
insanely funnier. I watched her headline set.
Speaker 3 (10:46):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (10:47):
It was an outdoor venue that she performed at. It
was really cool and she had me laugh in the
entire time. She's super funny, but she has the you know, Wisconsin,
Minnesota accent with which makes it even funnier. So it
was cool seeing her again after twenty.
Speaker 3 (11:05):
Years or whatever. She did greats.
Speaker 2 (11:10):
Who else did I meet? I gotta meet Greg Hahn.
It was one of my favorite comics. He was always
one of my favorites on The Bobbin Tom Show. He
had a bunch of funny one liners and stuff, super
high energy. I I didn't get to see his performance,
but I got to meet with him and talk to
him for a little bit, and he was super nice.
(11:33):
I felt bad because he was eating dinner, but I
wanted to say hi to him. And I gotta meet
Emo Phillips, another one of my favorite comics.
Speaker 3 (11:43):
He I didn't see his show either. His show was sold.
Speaker 2 (11:46):
Out, so unfortunately I didn't get to see that, but
I saw him. He was standing outside for about two
hours taking photos with people and stuff like that. So
when he was done doing that, I walked over and
me in another comic that I had met, UH asked
him if he would take some pictures with us, and
(12:07):
he was nice enough to do it, So thanks for
that EMO. I also met uh Jimmy Walker Jimmy JJ Walker.
UH got to see his sets. He performed at the
out outside UH venue as well, and that dude is impressive.
He is seventy eight years old and still super sharp.
Speaker 3 (12:29):
That was Uh.
Speaker 2 (12:30):
That was cool to see him. Super nice guy also,
that was kind of fine. I just kind of bumped
into him, like on the way in UH when I
was walking into the festival.
Speaker 3 (12:40):
I walked in.
Speaker 2 (12:41):
Through the back stage area and the first person I
saw there was Jimmy Walker's yeah hey, and then he
went on stage right after that, and UH got chat
with him a little bit after the show too, so that.
Speaker 3 (12:55):
Was kind of cool. I didn't take a photo with
him though. Well.
Speaker 2 (13:00):
I met Don McMillan didn't get to see his show,
but UH, another super nice guy I got a chat
with him for a little bits he Uh. He was
also a part of the industry panel that they had
at the festival. Uh, very knowledgeable guy. He's been around
for a long time. Did I meet anyone else? I
probably did, I can't remember. Anyways, it was a really
(13:23):
fun UH festival. Hung out with uh, you know, my
old comedy mentor Ross Reebus the entire week, so that
was fun.
Speaker 1 (13:32):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (13:33):
And then uh, the industry panel was cool. All the
uh industry people that I met were super nice.
Speaker 3 (13:40):
And the weather was perfect.
Speaker 2 (13:42):
It didn't hit eighty degrees at all, so that was nice.
And the uh festival. The the venue was like, uh
it was called the Kroner's Supper Club, which is like
a jazz club.
Speaker 3 (13:55):
Really cool venue. Uh. It was right by the lake,
which is cool. That's why they call it moved on
the lake.
Speaker 2 (14:01):
And then uh so yeah, hopefully, uh, hopefully I'll get
to go back again. I'll uh, I'll try to go
back next year for sure. That's like a lot of
the comics that were in the competition. I gotta hang
out with and talk to them and met some friends.
Now that's uh, you know, live all over the country,
so that's cool. Super nice comics.
Speaker 3 (14:24):
Then I did Uh.
Speaker 2 (14:25):
Then I came back home and then did some local
shows and uh they were pretty good.
Speaker 3 (14:36):
Yeah. Dit I write down anything else to talk about?
Probably not.
Speaker 2 (14:41):
I'm gonna keep this pretty short anyway. So yeah, I
do have some shows coming up. H Right now, I'm
Marino June twenty sixth to twenty ninth. Uh, July fifth,
I'm doing a comedy battle a case hat is comedy Club.
I forget how many comics it's gonna.
Speaker 3 (14:56):
Be, but uh, I don't know.
Speaker 2 (15:01):
It's gonna be awesome. It's gonna be some of the
best comics in in Albuquerque battling it outs for a
thousand bucks, I think. I don't know.
Speaker 3 (15:13):
I think that's surprise.
Speaker 2 (15:15):
I don't really care. Uh, that's gonna be fun. It's
gonna be a good show. If you want to go
to that show. I do have some comps for it too,
so hit me up. I don't know how many I get,
but if you want to go, get me up. And
then July tenth through the thirteenth, I'll be at the
Funny Bone in Saint Charles, Missouri with my pal Tim Gather.
(15:37):
If you're in the Saint Louis area. Try to come
out if you can. And then, uh, July twenty fourth,
I'll be headlining at the End of the Mountain Gods,
which is down at Mescallero, New Mexico. So if you're
in that area I or know anybody in that area,
check out a show. Yeah, that's it. I'm gonna go
(16:00):
do some writing. I had a good writing session earlier
with Tim. I wrote some stuff and I'm gonna try
to Night's so hopefully it goes well and it doesn't.
If it doesn't, it's it's Reno who cares? All Right,
I think that's it for now, but yeah, come check
out my showcaseas on Saturday, August second. I'm super excited
(16:23):
about it. You're gonna do a full headline set there,
so it should be fun. It should be fun. I
hope to see you there and thanks for tuning in.
Thanks to Jared Riddick from Bowling for Soup for the
intro music, John Singleton from Anesthesia for the outro music,
(16:43):
and we'll see you next time. Hopefully next time we'll
be a j DA leone on here, so take care
of buttholes. Yes,
