(00:03):
Well, we're here, we arehere, we are here, We're here,
and Rona is still here. Nothere, I mean not actually here.
I mean we just started. Westarted these episodes. When we'll get
there. That's for the second half. Damn it. I literally just told
you how the episode, gun.I literally just told you how the episode
was going to go. So ifyou've been along for the ride, you
(00:25):
know that the voices that you're hearingour meme my name is Russ, along
with me as Kyle and no chanceJoe Walsh of Greece. So have to
hear that right, Well, nowit's going to be featured on other episodes,
but this was going to be thelast time you had to hear that.
(00:47):
So yeah, and that's Michelle's lovelyvoice, who we'll get into in
the second half was responsible for somemoments the in the tournament. So so
since about halfway through this tournament, thing changed over to the listeners deciding who
was going to win and move on, and it was done via a vote
by the listeners on social media. So last week, after all the heartache
(01:10):
and matches and everything we went throughto get through the first eight that before,
the listeners voted and then the eightSince then, the final two albums
that came up against each other werePrince and the Revolution Purple Rain versus led
Zeppelin four. And we gave ourthoughts last week and you Twoe picked Purple
(01:32):
Rain right to win. Yeah, well, I know, let's tell the
four. Yeah. Yeah, Iwas sitting here, I was talking to
both of you and gave a wholelist of reasons thereferent times why I don't
remember what I picked. So sure, well I knew why. I knew
you picked Purple Rain, and Ithought that you did. Kyle just wanted
to make sure sitting here when hesaid his no, I was you are
(01:52):
the one. Just now I couldn'tremember Holy Cow anyways, so day oh,
that's not good for anybody. Soone really cool thing this has probably
been my favorite segment of this wholetournament, is getting all the feedback from
the listeners. So let's go intowhat we have. Leave that Joe,
(02:13):
oh, why about that? Rightwill be without feedbacks? So Michelle Kyle
have gathered the listener feedback that wehave from the Facebook page and a little
bit from Twitter, and uh,I'm excited. How you guys going to
decide who goes first rock paper Sittersbrod did that. I'm not allowed to
play thumb War because I cheat.Remember, you can play it, you
(02:36):
just might cheat again. He can'tbeat You can't trust yourself. You can't
trust myself, all right? Betweenone and a hundred forty two, you're
a closerio with seventy for the firsttime, you get to go first.
Yeah, I know, Kyle. What kind of feedback do you have over
there? Let's see Jeffrey d Hesays, what a great time these bonus
(02:58):
episodes have been. We are nowdown the two You and I love both
of these artists and their respective records. To me, this whole final comes
down to the feelings. What doyou feel when you listen to these records?
Which one speaks to you more?Purple Rain is a great soundtrack done
by one of the best, ifnot the best, individual artists in history.
Led Zeppelin is not only one ofthe most prolific rock bands in history,
(03:19):
they're the pre eminent model of whata rock band is. When I
put on led Zeppen four, Iam giddy. I know what I'm about
to experience, and I can't waitto start. Not only has LEDs up
and four my choice for this finalround. It should have be every It
should be everyone's choice, Jeff speakingfor everybody here. As good of a
soundtrack as Purple Rain is, itdoesn't hold a candle to four. The
flow on Zeppelin four is divine. In my humble opinion, this whole tournament
(03:43):
was over as soon as you said, lads up on four. Prince will
get some votes here for sure, but there it can only be one,
and that one is and should beled Zeppelin four. Well, dad,
Hey, do you think Jeffrey's wewiling on this? Like wabbling a little
better? I think it sounds likehe's pretty sure. He's pretty sure it's
Prince right. Yeah, Yeah, what a kind of feedback to you,
(04:06):
sell I have, Mario g itwas trolling. He says he's really good
at it, though that doesn't makeit right. He says this was easy
for me. The difference is ComputerBlue. It's the most unique song on
either album. Definitely Prince at hisfinest. JK. That's not how I
decided. I said this to messwith Michelle wonderful, And he goes on
(04:29):
and says, this was hard.I first tried to stick to the spirit
of the competition. But if bothalbums were sitting on the table, it's
fifty fifty. They're both just awesomebeginning to end. So after another listen
to both, I had an AHAmoment when I finished listening to led Zeppan
four, I really let it repeat. I usually move on to something else,
or another led Zepplin album, probablyHouse of the Holy, which is
their best album. Fight me.I was thinking about that when I read
(04:54):
that. I that's probably accurate.Houses the Holy probably is the best led
Zepplin record. I never heard it. Well, you would know most of
the songs off of it, likeyou would probably know as many songs on
Houses as you do for and they'reall on one not the titles of the
songs themselves. Yeah, definitely notthee Well, the one song that goes
(05:14):
oh oh oh, you know that'son there. What is it called.
It's called Jermaker, Jermaker. Yeah, it's a story for another time.
It's funny, see afterwards, allright. Then he goes on to say,
however, Purporin almost always gets arepeat listening. That's how I decided
on Purple Rain. Uh sincerely AYuker player who could win with Kyle at
thirty three and a third Appreciation Centerand speakeasy. That is I'm so glad
(05:36):
he saved that for the end. That is the best signature that he's had.
I need all the help I canget so far. I mean wow,
because regular listeners will know we wentinto detail at how much Kyle can't
play Yuker and Mario feels like hecan take that crutch and do a Force
Cup style run with it. Brant, Yeah, people have tried. I
(05:58):
think he's just planning on going alongthe whole time. Yeah, go along.
I'm gonna be getting drunk in thecorner. Yeah, what do you
got next? I got a coupleof short ones here. Mike P says
Purple Rain. I love Zeppelin, but I can listen to Pearple Rain front
to back, over and over andover again, straight to the point.
You know, accurate. I agreewith that. Josh w U simply says
(06:21):
led Zeppelin four. Damn all right? What else you got? I have?
Mike D not an easy choice.Prince was on my radar already when
Purple Rain came out. But Ibelieve four was the first led Zeppelin album
i'd heard. I wanted to hearmore led Zeppelin after hearing it. So
I'm going with four. So manygreat memories of both, and then Rick
D says, okay, only oneof these has the all time in caps
(06:43):
greatest song ever written on it,Stairway to Heaven, just saying I don't
know if I agree with that atall. But I don't agree with that,
but that that's also not an vote, right, Yeah, Kylo,
you got more, I got onemore. JVP cursed this tournament. Who
thought of this thing? Anyway, said the guy who thought of this tournament,
said the guy who thought of thosetournaments. This is so hard.
(07:06):
ZEP four is foundational, like restsaid, this is the album that launched
a thousand rock careers. I doprefer the track listing on Purple Rain to
ZEP four. Don't don't tell meit's been a long time since you rock
and rolled? And when you justmelted my face with black Dog that never
thought of that ever, like thefact that black Dog is such a rocker
(07:28):
to kick off the record, andthen the first line in rock and roll
as it's been a long time,No it is not. You were doing
it mere seconds ago. Yeah that'sfunny, but I hate it. I
totally get his point. He alsosays, and I have to say the
Purple Rain was more influential to mypersonal music taste growth. This comes down
to looking at both of these albumson the coffee table and picking one up
to drop the needle. Damn it, I have switched sides on this one
(07:48):
twice at least while writing this.If the house is full, I'm reaching
for Purple Rain. It lends itselfbetter to social listening. However, if
I have the house to myself,I will likely go to led zepl And
four first. And while Purple Raintakes me more places musically, LEDs Upland
four takes me home. I can'tbelieve I am saying it, but for
(08:09):
the win what so? You knowwhat I find interesting though, is one
of Mike Downing's detractors for Purple Rainwas one of Jamie's positives. Mike was
saying that led Zepplin made him wantto look more into the catalog of led
Zepplin, whereas Jamie's saying that that'swhat Purple Rain did for him and make
it more diverse, you know.So like I feel like a huge strength
(08:31):
for the record for one person wasa deterrent for the other. You know.
I think he's read about the sociallistening aspect of it too, like,
yeah, one is better to listento with a crowd, depending on
the crowd. Yeah, yeah,ye know what I mean. You get
a bunch of forty and fifty yearold dudes around and you put on LEDs
Up on four, it's going tobe as big of a party as if
you put on Purple Rain with anyage. What else you got? I
(08:52):
have one more friend of the show, Joe says, my boat goes to
Purple Rain. I try not tooverthink my decision and just go with my
instinct on this one. I thoughtof all the albums in the bonus episodes,
and there were only two I couldthink of that when I ranked above
Purple Rain and neither are Lads Upon Four. Don't get me wrong,
Lads Up and Four is a fantasticrecord in an iconic discography. But if
(09:13):
I had to choose one to listento, I'm almost always reaching for Purple
Rain first. How about that?Well? You know, funny is the
Facebook feedback this week is way moreeven than last week because last week was
like way one sided on Facebook andthen Twitter was way one sided the other
way. So I have tallied upthe votes between Twitter and Facebook, and
(09:33):
I do have a winner. Areyou guys ready to hear who the winner
of the tournament is? I thinkI'm ready. Okay? Is it not
the Dark Lab? All? Right? Here we go. Here is the
winner of the first, not annual, but first first Infectious screw Podcast tournament,
(09:54):
as decided by our listeners. Crazy, I don't care, baby say
they just want one new accountant Nikki. I guess you could say she was
(10:24):
a sex fiend. What it soundslike it does cry seemed to me since
(10:48):
everybody talks about how great every songon the record was and how they listened
to it front to back, thatwas the best way to announce it.
We're gonna get flagged for that. Now we'll see nobody will find out of
the water. I hope you listento this episode early on Prayer because literally,
if so, because I've had todo it before. I've had to
take stuff out before, So ifif, if not, it's going to
(11:11):
be a you're gonna hear us leadup to it, and then you're gonna
hear me be like I had toremove this, and then it's gonna be
our reaction, like you guys shouldhave heard that. It was what I
want, what I wanted to be. If you have to remove it is
like the druma and then it's justa computer being like purple right. I
will too speech synthesize it. Butanyways, Yeah, so here's how it
broke down between Facebook and Twitter.I added up the votes for both.
(11:35):
One hundred and ninety eight votes wereregistered between Twitter and Facebook. Between the
two, it broke down like this, one hundred and thirty three votes for
perforing, sixty five votes for ladsup on four. I try and keep
the show pretty positive, but andI talked to you about this the other
night, Kyle, I want toaddress some feedback that we got on Twitter.
And I'm not going to call outthe person, but someone tweeted at
(11:56):
the account overnight. How dare youcompare these two albums, which, by
the way, I'll compare any twoalbums I fucking want to. Anyways,
how dare you compare these two albums? Led Zeppelin is a seventies band in
all caps, and Prince is asolo all caps artists who got a start
in the eighties. I mean, lay some facts down for everybody real quick,
because I'm really irritated by this.Led Zeppelin got their start when their
(12:20):
first record came out in the latesixties, not the seventies. And Prince
as a solo artist, had hisfirst record come out in the seventies,
not the eighties. And if youhave a copy of Purple Rain, you
can see clearly at the top ofit that it says underneath the words Purple
Rain, Prince and the Revolution becausehe's playing with his band The Revolution.
So you used like one hundred andforty characters on your tweet and like,
(12:41):
I don't know, one hundred andtwenty of them are wrong. So my
response to that is, what thefuck is your point? Well, yeah,
I mean at the end of thelike I'll compare a Snazra record to
a Metallica record. I don't care. Like, I guess I'm wide enough
minded to be able to handle that, you know, I just was.
And then we did get a coupleof the people that were like, it
(13:01):
seems like odd records to compare, and I was like, this is where
the voting led us, Like, you know, we weren't. We didn't
just wake up one morning and we'relike, you know, two records are
exactly the same. Let's up onefour and Purple Rain. You know,
like I wanted to reply with theepisode where Carol King want to get eminem
and be like, oh yeah, yeah, there's a bunch of episodes where
the music is coolly different from oneanother. Yeah. So, having said
that, we are going to takea real quick break and come back and
(13:24):
discuss some of the ins and outsof the tournament. But your winner,
in fact is Purple Rain. SoI'm I'm happy with It's fine with me.
I mean, I know I pickedZeppelin to win, but I'm yeah,
you're happy because they're both through records. Correct. We'll be back in
just a minute. I'm Richie akaMidnight Agent Raw. I'm Devin aka Special
(13:50):

comedically informative take on movies, music, television, pro wrestling, and much
more. Check us out at SupermediaBros podcast dot Com, Apple Podcasts,
Spotify, or anywhere else that youcan listen to podcasts. Shades on We're
(14:11):
off. This is Beer in Front. Every week I'll talk about a beer
that maybe we've forgotten along the waywhile we get those check ins and badgets.
Being the Chicago beer guy, I'llalso talk about great craft beer in
the city of Chicago. And remembersometimes the beer in front of you is
(14:35):
the best one yet. That's beerin front part of the Odd Pods media
network. So we're back and allof the dust has settled now and we
have our first tournament winner in thatbeing Princeton Revolution Purple Rain. Now,
(14:56):
usually at this point in the episodeswhere I met and support, you know,
like hey, you going to anchorand whatever. But one thing I
want to mention, and you've probablyseen me post this meme on our Twitter
account and Facebook, is uh,you know, outside of monetary support,
there's so many ways you can supporta show that are absolutely free. Like
every every like, every share, every comment, all is huge, huge
(15:18):
support for us. My point insaying that is like, we absolutely could
not have done this whole second halfof this tournament without all of the support
that we got, Like the veryfirst week where we were like, hey,
hopefully so many comments like that, you guys know, I was like,
what, like, look at allthis awesome, you know, and
every week for people like us whohave been at this as long as we
have, like really dissecting music forpeople to regularly point out stuff that makes
(15:43):
all three of us be like, whoa, i'moulda thought, you know,
Like, before I even get intothat, I want to say, like
the just people taking the time tolisten to the episodes, taking the time
to do the comments, sharing itwith their friends, Like we have so
many people that share nearly everything wepost on Facebook, like I'm there on
page and whatnot, and I mean, that's that's all free, but it
takes your time into care and itreally really makes me feel good that we
(16:06):
have, you know, friends andlisteners that have been doing that so far.
And then the podcast community too hasbeen very supportive. Like the reason
why we get hundreds of votes onTwitter and whatnot is because they're all retweeting
all this stuff and getting attention inputting their own two cents in and whatnot.
So I just wanted to say thankyou very very much to everybody,
and we will probably I'll touch onthis at the end again in the future,
we'll probably do some other type ofbonus episodes for funzies. But the
(16:30):
way that this one came about isI don't know if you guys are aware,
but there was a health scare goingaround the country, the president to
be over in the summertime. Yeah, so when when all of that started
to come down, we actually hada listener on a music forum say,
well, I know you guys arenew, but you got to start putting
out more episodes, like give everybodysomething to do. And so I brought
(16:52):
that to you guys and was like, what do you think And you guys
were like, hell, yeah,we're going to be sending home you know,
like why not? So we we'rethen kind of dry on ideas.
We all, like all three ofus were like, I don't really know
what we would do for because wedidn't want to burn through a bunch of
topics from our main episodes and whatnot. And then a person who falsified his
feedback this week, Jamie Porter, you know, he was the one.
(17:14):
He said, well, why don'tyou guys just pick some records and throw
it together like n Cuba a styleand do a tournament between the records.
And then I said, well, yeah, that's fine, But for example,
I just said that it was awesomethat the listeners really supported the last
eight weeks of this. Right,It's one thing to ask people to do
it from there. It's a wholeother thing to ask for sixteen weeks of
it. Yeah. Yeah, SoI was like, how are we going
(17:36):
to do that? And Jamie wasthe one that was like, well,
you have Michelle pick because she'll lovethat. Yeah, because she'll love that,
and she'll be the one that makesyou know once the controversial decisions and
whatnot. So that's how it cameabout. As far as the records that
I chose for it, to someextent, I went with stuff that I
that I really liked, that Ithink would do well in a tournament.
(17:57):
But I absolutely played to my audienceto a certain extent as well. And
I have a feeling if I'm lookingat yours, I feel like the ones
you included for yourself would And thisis just a guess. I'm gonna say
Garth Brooks, No Fences and theBlack Album by Metallico, We're probably like,
I'm gonna throw this out there andsee if I can think it past
Michelle or something. You know, the weekend too as well. Really,
(18:19):
okay, I thought she I thoughtyou were already she likes the weekend,
but I didn't think that she wasgoing to be able to telerate listening to
the three albums straight stuff of his, speaking of which I literally the day
that you sent me my list,I was like, and I didn't really
look at the list ahead of time. I was just like, what those
(18:40):
albums have to listen to this week? And you sent me that and I
was like, this is not onerecord. And to be clear, the
only thing that I said to youat the time was no live albums and
no greatest hits, because live albumsare essentially greatest hits, you know,
and so you know that I toldMichelle. Michelle was like, well,
do you want to have them, you know, replace that record? And
(19:00):
I was like, well, Ididn't make that a rule, so I
was more hoping so and also andalso I'm joking on the cheater thing,
like I don't think you're like,I'm going to treat at this against you.
I randomly chose that one because Igenuinely liked that record, yeah,
or those records, those ones werefor me. I definitely chose other ones
(19:21):
I knew that she would potentially pushthrough, like oh and then without fear
ye Dermott Kennedy, which is waybetter than no, no, my god,
no, like not not on thisplanet or any other. And like,
I know, I just got doneon our last main episode talking about
how much I've grown, and I'mnot like the guy that's like, oh
no, what you said sucks. And when I said this right, there
(19:41):
is no planet in the Solar System. Yeah, planet Earth where that Dermot
Kennedy record is. Even in thesame discussion with pet sounds like they are
on the table, I would pickDermot Kennedy every time and then listen to
the better record right after. No, like you just you're just saving the
best for last or I mean, say for the garbage. Yeah, I'm
(20:07):
aware, I honest to God whenI'm looking over this, I think for
me, the biggest surprise for mewas that you picked the black album to
beat The Dark Side of the Moonwhen you hate Metallica like you do,
and well, first of all,yes you do, and you feel like
you and second of all, likeyou like songs on the Dark Side of
(20:27):
the Moon. Like, I knowyou're not the world's biggest Pink Floyd fan,
but like my favorite Floyd record, like the Dark Side of the Moon.
It's like my probably my fifth favoriteFloyd record off the top of my
head. But I put it inthere because I knew you like songs on
it, and I was like, you know, maybe this will be enough
to carry through. And then whenthe numbers foul, I was like,
oh, well, this is aneasy week for me because she hates Metallica.
And then she and if you goback and you listen to the episode,
(20:48):
you went on for like twenty minutesabout how much you hate Metallica,
and then you were like and therewas a lot of bright spots on the
Dark Side of the Moon and Ilike this and I like this, and
I was like sweet, and I'mlike, what's your decision? And you
were like, yea album I hateAnd I was like what, like what?
Like, don't get me wrong,I, in no way champe or
Form expected Dark Side of the Moonto go all the way to the dance.
You know, I didn't think itwas going to get in the finals,
but I thought for sure that itwas going to beat the Black Out.
(21:11):
In my defense, we were quarantinedat home when I was probably drinking
a lot. Meaning what I rememberthat decision? Well, you made it
here sitting in the same chair you'rein right now, Yes, so you
did. You would you would havemade it here while I said, oh,
you made your decision ahead of time. No, I made my decision
at my house. We were recordingthem remotely. Oh where we back then?
(21:33):
Yeah, I remember sitting in thebasement drinking yep, drinking yes,
and Michelle between the dark side ofthe Moon and Mattelico what why aren't you
picking? And then you just heargo where's my darts? Hold on?
And you hear a thud Metallica thelast one you said, I don't remember
the first one truly. That wasthe one that shot me the most.
(21:55):
I was surprised when you didn't likeGarth anymore than you did going in Seriously,
that was surprising. Yes, Ididn't think Karth was going to be
lads upload for by any stretching theimagination, but I thought that you would
like it more than you did,and no, you didn't. I put
that in there because I love thatalbum and I also wanted Michelle to fully
listen to it. Yeah, it'sa good, solid Garth record. Yea.
(22:17):
Yeah, so now we know she'sbeyond hope. So at least I
thought I could have made some redemptionhappen after she fell asleep with the concert,
But right, it didn't work.Another surprise for me was I really
thought you were going to go withEminem over Carol King or what? No,
that wasn't you. That was socialmedia, wasn't it. There was
social media by the time episode thirteenyet around. Yeah, what would you?
What would you have picked? No? I said, Eminem was my
(22:40):
choice, But then I said,I like, I wanted it to be
Carol King, but honestly, ifthey were sitting side by side, it
would be Eminem. Gotchas I wasn'tdrinking so much. We were here,
remember that one right, Episode tenwas decided by social media. I wasn't
surprised that led Zepplin ended up carryingit over and for me, like I
said, I think that was justmore of a sentimental thing. But then
(23:02):
lads Uplin carried all the way throughthe damn finals from there. I'm really
surprised during My Kennedy didn't make itpast a second round. I know,
it's crazy, isn't it? Isn'tit? Yeah, just to be clear,
because din't what did term My Kennedygo up against the pearl jam ten?
Okay, by episode eleven, thatwas decided on by the listeners,
right, Okay, because of thecontroversy involved with that, Dermot Kennedy could
(23:23):
have been going up against a paperplate as an album. Like people could
have been like, I put apaper plate on my turntable and I listened
to the whole side of it,and people would have been like, I
still like the paper plate better, like just because of the whole controversy.
But I have to say, likePurple Rain had the hardest road in this
whole thing. I mean, handsdown. I mean the record started out
(23:45):
going against Rumors, which is amonster record. I couldn't choose, Yeah,
you couldn't choose, and so that'sthe first time we had to call
it a social media and then itended up going head up against Thriller,
which I've probably been debated online sincethe beginning of time. If it was
Lads Up on four Rumors, let'sjust say rumors made it all the way.
What would you have picked Lights upon four versus rumors? I probably,
(24:07):
Jesus probably, I probably still wantto stuck with LEDs Upling four and
rumors all the way. I mean, no, absolutely, no disrespect towards
rumors at all, but I wouldhave stuck with LEDs Upling four for the
same reason that I picked it overPurple Rain, in that a million careers
were launched off of LEDs Upling four. You know, oh oh oh,
actually, and there's three or foursongs on Rumors that I don't like,
(24:30):
and there are zero songs A coupleof stinkers. Yeah, yeah, oh
for sure. Not skippables, stinkersflat outs. Mean we need a chart
of which one is skippable higher thanstinkers. I need like a flow chart.
Will you come up with that hierarchy? You're the one that came up
with with the term stinkers. Noskippable, It's not mine. No,
not up in here, not upingnow. So you know, I know
(24:52):
I said this before already, butwe can't think the listeners enough. It's
been so much fun. Yeah,it's so much of this dependent on people
listening every week, you know,in a fairly quick turnaround, you know,
get the episode on Friday and turnaround. And there were I was thinking
most people were going to be likeX album versus X album, and the
(25:15):
last time I listened to these twothis is what I thought, And people
were like, I listened to thisone six times in a row, and
then this and I was like,WHOA, like you shed ocation, not
only are you listening to us talkabout it? I was like, for
sure, you put more energy intothis than Michelle did, and then,
you know, way more than Iexpected everyone too. So I am curious
to know if anyone listened to Trilogyall the way through I don't know,
(25:37):
or if they broke it up intoalbums. I know I did. I
did. I'm sure I said thison the episode, but I did.
I was listening to the whole thingtwice, and I did at least twice,
and I did once. I didall in one sitting and then the
other one. I actually looked upthe Wikipedia for it to see where the
album markers were supposed to, becauselike, if I was ever going to
put the wall on this and youstreamed the wall, like the wall has
(25:59):
a death stopping point story wise betweenGoodbye core World and Hey you, like,
I would expect you guys to likelook that up and just like go
barreling through this to be like,I thought, you just killed himself?
Why is he saying? Hey?You the reason? Why? So I
on purpose looked that up and Iwas like, uh, and it worked
better for me Separately, yeah,it was. So it's confusing because if
you go to Spotify, you itjust all bunched together and you don't know
(26:21):
what what is what, or anystreaming service for that matter. But like,
they're very much all separate records. They did not come out at the
same time, and they're not aboutthe same things. So they all very
much should he listened to separately. And it's easy for me to understand it
because I have the physical the CDbooklet that has them all separated and you
