(00:03):
In a week that most people havebeen dreading. Here we are. We
are on episode thirteen of the bonusepisodes, like the tournament deal that we've
been doing for funzies. It's thefifth week of the new format, which
I know I keep heaping praises onour listeners, but like you guys,
just glancing at the feedback you havein front of you right now, isn't
that awesome? Yeah, it's alot of good feed got books worth over

(00:25):
here, Yeah, which is freakingsweet. So last week and I kid
when I say we were all dreadingthis, but it's a it's a nice
problem to have, you know, having like two monster records like Thriller and
Purple Rain go up against each other. I kind of knew when we first
when I like drew out the tournament, I was like, you two are
going to meet eventually. This isgonna happen. You know, these two
are going to come up against eachother. So one thing I want to

(00:48):
mention real quick before I throw theshow over to Oh you know what,
I totally forgot before I throw theshow over to Kyle and Michelle. Before
I throw the Kyle and Michelle, were you like supermad that I forgot to
do that. Yeah, I wouldimagine that. Yeah, no, it
doesn't for me. I swear toGod it doesn't for me. I hope

(01:08):
at least like one listener giggles everytime it happens. That's that's all I
ask for. So before I throwthe show over to you guys, I
want to mention on Twitter. Thisweek I posted a Facebook page a couple
of times and said like, hey, bring your bring your thoughts over there,
and we had a couple of usTwitter users come over to Facebook to
leave their remarks. So yeah,so I just want to mention real quick

(01:30):
because apparently I had been asking peopleto come to Facebook without ever mentioning our
Facebook page, which sounds which soundslike something I would do. So for
those of you who are about tohear some of this feedback, and if
you agree with it, great, and if you disagree with it, or
when we get into the second halfand we need more feedback and you say,
oh, I definitely want to wantto have my voice in that.

(01:53):
What you're gonna do is go toFacebook dot com slash Infectious groove Pod and
just like the page, follow thepage and then you will see whenever we
have a new episode, so onand so forth. But every time we
have these terment episodes, we putup like here it is, go listen
to it. Him to the top. Yeah, yeah, do you do?
Oh wow? Okay, so youdo something with our social media?

(02:14):
Pin it to the top. Didyou not hear what I said? She
she pins it to the top?Everyone? Hey, Kyle, did you
hear that she pins it to thetop? Did that? Here she comes
again? I mean, holy cow, I cannot get the picture or the

(02:36):
video events mc man. I'm walkingout to hear that. I'm terrible with
video editing, but I want itso badly to like get a gift of
him doing it and put her headon it. That would just be I
can curb michell. That would behilarious. So anyways, having said that,
why about that? Right? Lastweek we have an exciting match of

(03:00):
Rochambeau before you guess decided, which, by the way, yeah, it
was. It was ridiculous when itwas happening, and then when I went
to edit it, I was like, I'm going to edit that out,
and then I was like, no, no, the listener should know the
crap that I deal here, SoI literally left it in so I'm certain
that there are amount of a certaincross section of users listeners brother who were

(03:21):
like, what, so what werewe doing this week for you guys to
you should pick a number? Ohboy, okay, I'm picking a number
between one and one hundred sixty nine. Of course three U Michelle is closer
and forty seven. Wait, sowhat does that mean? I have to
go? You have to go first, the same thing as last week.

(03:45):
You win, you win. Soanyways, Michelle will kind of feedback to
you have. I have a lotof good feedback. I have a novel
from Mario. Listen, Oh,before you read that, off, he
corrected his because his signature was redacted. Yeah, I think so this is
a proof this is editor approved. When you get to the end, you
can read his signature this time.Oh, I ken kind of well,

(04:08):
I redacted it. Last time youwouldn't even be able to read it.
I know, well, I knewwhat it said. Jee Edgar over here
had the files before. Mario saidthat he came into this assuming that he
was going to pick Purple Rain. After a thorough listen of both albums,
he can confidently say that Purple Rainis his choice. He said it destroys
Thriller. After a full listen ofThriller, he said he doesn't remember how

(04:29):
random the album was, which Iagree with. That's what people forget that
about Thriller. I forgot that aboutThriller until you listen to it again.
He said that there was He lovedthe first three minutes of want to be
starting something, but then it goeson for another three minutes. I got
there. I want more of hejust go on to I was wildly offended
when I read this. Kind Don'tget me wrong. At a wedding,

(04:50):
I will dance hard to all thesong, but for the album, it's
too long. Oh. I disagreewith him as well. Oh my lord,
that the Samacusa I could there couldbe literally all the rest of side
one could be that and just MichaelSagan out loud singing it for the world,
and the whole time I'll be inthe corner going he he like,

(05:11):
H mean the whole the whole timeside note and this literally just fall into
my head. Did you guys knowthis about justin Timberlake? Did you know
what he thought that was when hewas a kid. Mama, say mama,
sam'macusa. I learned this watching theTonight Show. He thought it was
I'm gonna say it one more time, I'm not going to stop, and
he thought that that's why the albumwent The song went on so long because
it was like, gonna say itone more time, I'm not gonna stop,

(05:32):
gonna say it one more time, and he was like, well,
all right, then like it justkept going. So anyways, I'm sorry
that. Yeah, I'm glad youagree with me, Kyle, you agree,
disagree with I disagree. Mario.Yeah, yeah, I would like
to continue to be starting something.Yes, for sure, he said.
Let's be honest, Baby Mine andthe Girl is Mine are really lame compared

(05:54):
to what is to come, andthey has stake stinkers. I mean,
Mario is trying to be nice, but there's stinkers, yeah, he said.
But then it finally starts thriller, beat It a Billy Jean, Human
Nature, and Yes, pyg areas good as any five songs on any
album in they're all in a row. Then it ends with the Lady in
My Life and it's just a bigletdown, which I agree with. That
was one of my least favorite, probably my least favorite song on the on

(06:14):
the record, now I did Itook. I have to say I took
some crap on a Michael Jackson formthis week because someone who's up to speed
posted and said, when you saidthe lady in my life is a stinker,
it hurt my heart. Like Ihad to pause the episode. They
were, you know, addressing me, and I said, I did misspeak
because I did call it a stinkerin last week's episode. But I also,
in the first time we talked aboutThriller, I did say that song

(06:36):
is way, way, way,way way better than I remember. But
it's a victim of track listing.It doesn't go there like it doesn't.
It doesn't. If you put thatsong on on its own, I will
be like jam. But if youwhere it is on that record, it
doesn't on the record. Yeah yeah, And so anyways, someone else quoted
him and said, he said, what now, So I feel like I

(06:59):
have a beating coming on, Andmy reply, I started with something along
the lines of like see what hadhappened, was ye, So anyways,
go on. When I finished Thriller, I'm back and listened to beat It
one more time just because it wasthat good of a song. And then
he's so good yep, he said, without a doubt, it's the best
song on the album. Well,I don't know if that's true, but
yeah, But then again, hedoesn't like half I want to be starting
something, so what does he know? He likes three minutes. Then he

(07:23):
goes on to listen to Purple Rain, and he listened to it four times
in a row when he listened toit, because let's be honest, it's
Purple Rain, and that's what youdo. It's so good. He says,
it's amazing from front to back, and that he did not have the
urge to skip one song, noteven Computer Book. I know you know
why he didn't skip Computer Book becauseit's wonderful. He does say Computer Blue
starts to crank the party back upafter the beautiful ones. It so much

(07:46):
does. Then he said that WhenDoves Cry is probably the best song on
the album. I don't know, you're splitting so much hairs at that point,
but you know, I will saythat When Doves Cry is probably probably
a microcosm of the record, Likeit has a little of everything else that's
on the record. So if someonewas to say to me, I've never

(08:07):
heard Purple Rain, I would probablyplay that song first as an example of
what to expect. Yeah, yeah, yeah. He goes on to name
some other great songs on there,I Would Die for You and Baby I'm
a Star's another jam, and thenhe said he can find ourselves at the
end and Purple Rain is an eightminute song that you don't want to end
and I can't agree more. Yeah, that's true, and he signed like
when you share it with the icecream people? Oh I did? He

(08:31):
signs it sincerely an undefeated UK participantat thirty three and a third music appreciation
center and speaking. And see,now that's an accurate statement. He is
an undefeated partner. He can't justgo throw around words like well and I'm
kind of leaking government secrets here. But he used the word champion in his
last here and that's not true. But the thing I will say this now

(08:52):
about I'm not going to continue toharp on Computer Blue except except for what
the very valid point that Mario broughtup is when you talk about an exercise
and a track listing, because thebeautiful ones Prince goes nuts in the middle
of that song, screaming, butit's still a ballad. And then when
it fades out, with the boomboom boom like and it fades out.

(09:15):
How hard that drum beat comes infor computer boom boom, that's like boom
goo goo Like it's almost like bemy baby the rhynots, be my baby
by the rynots like it's almost thatlike boom ba boom bam like we're gonna
We're gonna take out. It's agreat way to shift out of because you
could put the beautiful ones right beforePurple Rain too. You know, it's

(09:37):
it's a great exercise in track listing. So oh, you gave us his
approved signature. So that was itfrom Mario. What do you got up
Kyle? Mario? Maybe you canteach me how to play Uker? He
is a lost CAUs man. We'vehad several unsuccessful attempts. And I will
say this to our Twitter followers, our Instagram followers, and our Facebook followers.
If you know of a way toteach Kyle how to play the Uka.

(10:01):
We've tried so hard multiple times. So if you know of a way,
I swear to God of the firstpiece of feedback on this episode is
somebody like linking to a Uker tutorial. I'll ship myself so and also you
remember, partner, we're listening toit over forty countries now and ukr's very
much a Michigan thing, so there'speople like probably across the US in the

(10:22):
world. Well, go learn howto play it and then teach Kyle.
And I mean this with zero disrespecttowards my my co host here, but
I guarantee you every listener could learnit before Kyle and then effectively teach him.
I just can't wrap my head around. Okay, I just don't care
to. It's just I don't know, so get you don't even try.

(10:48):
So getting back to you, Iabsolutely did not that. It was kinda
now this one, I will PuOon Kyle. This was his fault,
my fault. Anyways, It's funny. I had a friend today suggest that
we should drink more on the show, and it's crazy how this episode sounds
like we're hammered and we're not. We're not, I swear. So anyways,
go out, Kyle. Jamie Portersays all the same things that you

(11:09):
just read from Mario. Actually, for pretty much all the reasons you all
had, I voted for Purple Rain. The thriller video was the Beatles on
ed Sullivan. For my generation, imagine having the self confidence to collaborate with
Paul McCartney and Eddie Van Halen onthe same album when you were twenty four.
Damn, As you mentioned, thereare some stinker the thing was at
his complete No, there's kind ofjust first of all, I didn't even

(11:31):
think about that until Jamie points thatout. And how are you going to
be twenty four and have Edward VanHalen end up beatle I'm your record?
Like what? But one thing? It's funny and I know there's more coming.
But when Jamie left that, Iwas like, fantastic feedback is always
by the and he goes he said, I almost just left the first sentence,
which the first sentence is something likeI agree with everything you know,

(11:52):
but I'm very thankful that he leftthe rest of it because like that,
I never I told you guys aboutthat before, like not even just thriller.
But when he did the moonwalk onthe Motown twenty five special, this
was before. Now on the newsthey're like, oh and this reality star
did this, and also these threepeople were shot tonight, right. The
news used to be just the newsback then. And when he did the

(12:15):
moonwalk, on Motown twenty five. They were like, and we'll update you
on the condition of that child assoon as possible. Also, Michael Jackson
did a dance move like it wason the news, like the news,
you know. So I think that'swhy a lot of people were just like,
oh, well, thrillers got thisin the bag before they listen to
the records again. Yeah, Iagree. Also goes on to say the

(12:35):
middle two songs on side A arenot great, and I'm sorry, but
the Lady of My Life should nothave closed the album I know, which
we all agree with. I justyeah, and we can get into this
at some other time. But Idon't even know where that would go on
this record to make it fit, which is weird because no, there's other

(12:56):
Michael records that don't have that problem. Like I Just Can't Stop. Even
You fits perfectly where it is onBad Speechless and Butterflies fit perfectly where they
are on Invincible. But for somereason, I there's no way I can't
say to you, like, ohwell, if the Lady of my Life
was just here, it would havefared better. It does it? Yeah,

(13:16):
but it's still a great song anyways, going I said py T and
or human Nature. Both would haveclosed out the album better and beat It
would have been a hilarious would itend the album? Which it would happen?
I don't even understand that. Whatam I missing? Hilarious way to
end the record? Like an ultimatemic drop? I guess yeah, Like
oh, and I guess what Isaved for last me and Eddie. He

(13:37):
beat It and took off blackde inan episode Beat It or Jackson five Across
your Face. He says that Rustpointed out something in the show that really
hit home. This album is notaged as well as Purple Rain. I
think that it is partially because everybodywas trying to replicate what Michael did with

(13:58):
the Thriller, did with so whathe did first we heard everywhere for a
couple of years until Purple Rain.Yeah, and that's my only problem with
PYT. I love the song, but the second you dropped the needle on
PYT, you are in nineteen eightytwo. Yeah, Like even the guitar
tone right from the cannet, Likeas soon as it starts, you know

(14:22):
we should get out of the show. Is yeah, fake Doctor's real friends.
Yeah. He also says that Ihave wex poetic about Purple Rain before
in the comments, and my lovefor this album hasn't changed. Purple Rain
is a is harder, a lotedgier and push the boundaries. It was
the ship that launched a million parentalguidance stickers and left all the proper mothers

(14:43):
clenching their pearls. Yeah, whichwe discussed on the show before, Like
the parent advisory sticker essentially exists becausePrince didn't have Eddie van Halen play on
Purple Rain, because Prince didn't needhim to play on Purple Rain. I
am that, Like I literally readthat and then read it again, and

(15:03):
then read it a third time becauseI was like, God, damn,
you're gonna talk about Michael like that. I think the hits are better on
Purple Rains. Before you even finishthat, sid the felonious Yeah, look
the quote unquote hits off of PurpleRain. I'm using doctor Evil quotes.
Hits are Let's Go Crazy and whenDoves Cry. I will put Billy Jean

(15:28):
alone up against those two as aas a hit, as a quote unquote
hit. Yeah, so felonious,James felonious, he said, and the
filler if you can call the BeautifulOnes computer blue or baby I'm a Star
filler, which can weigh better onpurple rain. Yeah. I like that
he qualified that with if you can, because if someone, if anyone I
know, ever calls the Beautiful Onesfiller, we're not friends anymore. You're

(15:50):
skirting the outside right now with computerblue. Yeah. Yeah, I've weighed
the consequences when a night that wrapup wrap up from James, Yes,
right on, Michelle, what elseyou got? You put that down like
you were done, but you surearen't. Roger m says thriller. Yeah.

(16:11):
Roger a person who came over tothe Facebook page from from Twitter,
and I'm really he posts like he'sa real big sports guy, but he
posts a lot of cool music stuffon Twitter. So I'm hoping in the
future maybe he'll expand no boy moreon the two. But what was his
vote? Was thriller? Correct?Yes? Okay? Cool? And what
else we got from Twitter? Surelyyou can't be serious? Podcasts says if

(16:34):
it were nineteen eighty four, Iwould have picked thriller, But today in
my choice is Purple Ring Yeah boomyeah, and also great name for a
podcast, by the way, Shirleyyou can't be serious. I am shortly,
I am serious, and don't callme Shirley. There was What's funny
is there was another podcast and I'mso I feel bad. I don't remember
who, but there was another podcastthat chimed in that was like, that's

(16:55):
not a definitive vote, like whois it? And then surely you can't
be serious. Podcast replied with likeseven Prince gifts, So it was it
was most definitely Prince that they had. Kyle. Who else do you have
a friend of the show? Joewhose seat is still empty on the show
says yeah, we we you knowwhat I want to do. I want

(17:15):
to get a little spylight, likea pin light for right here, which,
by the way, we haven't gotany feedback from him on the because
the first time we called him friendof the Show Joe, he changed his
Twitter handle. No nothing on anacquaintance of the show Joe. Yet I'm
like, I feel like he's likelying in wait and got a strike,

(17:36):
he says. Purple Rain by thenarrowest of margins. Purple Rain is arguably
Prince's best album. Arguably I saidoverall one of the best albums of the
eighties, and one of the greatest, if not the greatest soundtracks ever.
So glad that he qualified arguably thePrince's greatest albums. But I'm sorry I
almost talked over you. What wasthe part about the being one of the

(17:57):
greatest soundtracks ever? Because he wasone of the best albums of the eighties
and one of the greatest, ifnot the greatest soundtracks ever. To me,
it just slightly beats Thriller. Now, you could make the argument that
the collection of music videos that accomplishedThriller can stand up against the film Purple
Rain. But Thriller is not asoundtrack. Yeah, and I agree.
I think let me just say this, I think the acting in the Thriller

(18:19):
video before you worry about Billy Jeanand beat it, the acting in the
Thriller video is better than the actingin all of the movie I've never seen
them. But what the movie PurpleRain. Yeah, it's okay, I've
seen it. If you've seen eightMilo, you've seen Purple But no,
it's not even a joke. It'sjust that's just fact. But the thing

(18:41):
with what Joe said, and Ithink this is if I remember right during
the episode where Purple Rain made itout of the first round because it was
Purple Rain versus Rumors. I waslike, I have a thing that I
think is going to be my clincherof why Purple Rain should win. And
I listed off a lot of thingseveryone agrees on about Purple Rain, and
then I was like, the otherthing is no one remembers that it's a

(19:03):
fucking soundtrack, yeah, you know. And then when we went to your
vote, you were like, well, I was ready, but then you
said some things and no one remembersit that, you know, Purple Rate.
The actual title of the record isPrince and the Revolution music from the
motion picture Purple Rain. It's asoundtrack and people don't remember that. Like
I mean, so Purple Rain getsin this like that versus thriller thing.

(19:27):
But also Purple Rain is in thediscussion with Footloose, Dirty Dancing, Top
Gun, like these massive soundtracks thatthis dude made on his own, and
that's for you. Worry about thefact that the son of a bitch went
on to make an actual soundtrack ofThe Batman and in eighty nine, you
know, like eighty seven, brother, I think Purple Rain the movie is

(19:48):
forgettable. While the music that goesalong with it is very much not you're
making enemies right now. I wouldn'tsay the movie is forgettable. It's just
okay, let me say this, and I'm easily the biggest Pink Floyd fan
on the show. Right the movieThe Walls hot garbage, like the movie
is. The movie is just notgood at all, and we'll get into
it in the future. Let mesay this as a sidebar. There were

(20:11):
creative differences between Roger Waters, whowrote his life story and melded it with
said Barrett's life story to come upwith the story of the Wall, and
then people like the MGM studio andthe director Alan Parker came to Roger Waters
and said incredibly stupid shit like well, that wouldn't happen that way, and
Roger Waters was like, a crazystory it fucking did you know what I

(20:33):
mean? So I don't put PurpleRain in that. If Purple Rain has
any problem with it, it's thatlike there's only so much money Warner's gonna
throw an improven thing and the actingisn't the greatest. Yeah, I wouldn't
say it's hot garbage, but it'sjust I feel like when she watches Purple
Rain for the first time. Yeah, I'm optimistic. I feel like when

(20:55):
you do watch Purple Rain for thefirst time and you've seen it Kyle Okay,
at the very beginning, when Apoloniagives her information to the bar owner
and that waitress turns around and shecan't even say the word Apollonia correctly,
I feel like Michelle's gonna be like, I'm out, I heard I heard
half of Let's Go Crazy, andI'm done here, But I like,

(21:15):
I wouldn't call it forgettable. Yeah. Yeah, but the soundtracks, let
me say this, in fifty years, people are gonna be talking about the
album. Yeah, And in fiftyyears people are gonna be like, did
you know there used to be amoving picture that went along with this soundtrack?
Overshadowed the album. So it's like, it's that's why people don't take
into consideration that it's a soundtrack.Yeah, yeah, yeah, fucking I

(21:37):
couldn't have said that any better.Well done, Michelle, You've got nothing
else? No, well, ChrisAdams says he's trying to be short this
week, which you can be long. Yeah, I know. I think
Chris is one of those people wewant to hear more from. Like I've
mentioned this on the show several times. But he's one of those people that
he knows what he's talking about, and I love to hear it. He
said he went in sank Thriller comparedin contrast it and it turns out that

(22:00):
purple rain due to a couple ofskippables on Thriller. We call this stinker
Yeah, Chris, What's what? What is a skippable? I want to
speak to this is this is radiofor one right now. I want to
speak directly to one listener. Chris. I don't know what a skippable is,
but we call him stinkers. Wedo call him stinkers here. And
then he goes on to say andhe can never get past how say Say

(22:23):
Say would have been far better onThriller than The Dog Gone Girl is Mine
with the eye rolly emoji, becausesay Say Say is and I don't want
to overestimate this one point five billiontimes better than the Girl Is Mine,
like it just is. And alsoa great song when you talk about splitting
hairs. I'm super thankful that wehave not one, but two songs by

(22:47):
Michael Jackson and Paul McCartney to debateover. But Say Say Say it's like
a thousand times better than the Girlis Mine. Yeah. I wouldn't say
a thousand, but yes it's better. Oh wait, hold on, yeah
yeah yeah, hold scale of oneto ten? Who you just give it
a thousand? What do you givethe Girl is Mine? And what do
you give dog Gone Girl? Is? I wish? By the way,

(23:08):
have you ever noticed I don't knowif you know this. You know,
dude looks like a lady by YarrolSmith. I do, Okay, the
name, the correct name of thatsong is dude and in parentheses looks like
a lady. So are you sayingthat the full name of this should be
in parentheses the Dog Gone Girl andthen is mine? Yes? Okay,
go on, So what was yourquestion? What one to ten? What

(23:30):
do you rate? Say? Say, say, on a scale of one
to ten, this is gonna belike a four and a half. No,
I would say it's probably a sevenoh right off the top of her
head. And then the Dog GoneGirl is Mine? I mean linka six
oh, way closer than I.I like both those songs, and maybe
I don't. I don't know.I don't know about its place on either

(23:52):
record, Like I don't have afeeling on it one way or another because
they are so close to me,like in I just the Girl is Mine?
My thing is if if you ifright now you had never heard that
song, and knowing what you knowof the Beatles and knowing what you know
of Michael Jackson, if I wasgonna go, did you know that Paul
McCartney and Michael Jackson did a songtogether and you were like, what would

(24:12):
you be happy if I put onthe girls line? Like you would not
be happy about it because it's notthat good of a song, like you
would be like, I expect somuch more than that. That's very much
a Beatles song to me, likeMichael Jackson is singing him what that's How
do you equate the Girl is Mineto a Beatles song? I don't imagine
Michael Jackson saying dog on a lot, Oh boy, all right, we're

(24:33):
gonna we're we're gonna go on astroke. Sid side note. I am
having a whiskey right now, butI promise we're not. We're not drunk.
It sounds like it, but Ipromise we're not Holy cow like so

(24:53):
yesterday, Sergeant Peppers for no One, The Girl is Mine? I remember
all those Beatles classics. Now,now that you mentioned I remember all those
Beatles classics. Holy cow, goddamnit, you have at least one more
bit of feedback force. I haveone more decent sized one and two miniature
ones. Oh miniature, yes,Jeffrey d. As much as I love

(25:15):
heart emoji with a little arrow throughit, Thriller, it can hold no
candle to Purple Rain. Michael Jacksonis such a great entertainer and artists.
However, Prince is everything molded intoone and I really agree. And you
know who else agrees, Yeah, legendary singer Jeff Scott Soto, who said
exactly the same. From writing themusic, the lyrics, producing, performing

(25:36):
choreography, he does everything from pointA to point Z. Then there's the
songs on the albums themselves. ThePurple Purple Rain doesn't even come close to
having what is known as filler.Oh it chair doesn't go on. However,
Thriller had several filler songs on it. Thriller enabled all kinds of different
artists to be able to get ontoMTV, which at the time really only
played rock videos. Which is awesomethat an album enabled not only Michael Prince

(26:00):
and a lot of other R andB and other alternative groups other than rock
to get a chance. Thriller wonso many deserved awards, but compared to
a genius of Prince and Purple Rain, though it pales in comparison. If
we were comparing another Prince album toanother Michael album, maybe the outcome would
be different, but we aren't.In this instance. There isn't any other
choice that can be made other thanPurple Rain. Yeah, and that you

(26:22):
know, this is kind of myfault because I entered Thriller into the tournament
because that's what you do. Likeif you know what I mean, if
you're gonna enter a Michael Jackson recorddan the tournament, it's gonna be Thriller.
And to be totally honest, andI'm not fonding over our listeners again
for no reason, like this typeof feedback that we're receiving. If I
would have known that everyone was goingto dig this deep in history would be

(26:44):
in here or bad would be youknow what I mean? Because I think
like for all the people that aregoing back right now and listening to Thriller
and being like, oh wow, there's less on here than I remember,
I think I'm bad and on history, there's a ton that people would be
like, holy shit, I didn'teven know about this, or you know
what I mean, Yeah, let'slearn to cap it off. Mike D
and Alice H both said Purple Rain. Yeah, I'm real surprised. First

(27:07):
of all, Alice H also cameover from Twitter and left to her vote,
which we appreciate. I was realsurprised because Mike D has always had
a lot of in depth commentary forus each week so far. No,
no, well I'm mad at him. I think he's still mad about rumors
getting checked out, but like betweenthe two, he was just like dope,

(27:30):
beforing and that's it. So havingsaid that, Michael Jackson's Thriller put
up a valiant fight and it wentabout as far as I expected it to
go. In the tournament, thingsgot a little crazy the first couple of
days that I put this on Twitter, because like the first four or five
Twitter votes that we got were likethriller, thriller, thriller, And I
was like, oh no, youknow, once we started getting people moved

(27:52):
over to Facebook to leave their feedback, it was it was it was more
balanced in In the end, itis Purple Rain. That is moving on
in the tournament. So this week'soh I should, well, you can
just do a plus. There wego. This week's matchup is super duper
important and it's because one of thetwo records that we are talking about this

(28:18):
week when we come back from breakinga second, is going to move on
to the finals, which is crazy. This week is Carol King Tapestry,
which I noted this because you alwaysasked me off the cuff and I never
know off the top of my head, Carol King's Tapestry's performance in this tournament
goes like this. It knocked outErrol Smith get a Grip in the first

(28:41):
round. It knocked out eminem Musicto be murdered by in the second round,
which was I feel like a crushingdisappointment to both of you. I
mean, I can understand why.But and then that record, Carol King
Tapestry is going up against led Zeppelandfour, which previously knocked out Garth Brook's
Offenses, and then after that itmoved on to knock out Metallica The Black

(29:02):
Album, and if you remember, that was the first one where everything we
read feedback wife was like anger, misery, like despair, like people were
like why would you make me decidebetween you know, led Zeppelin four in
the Black Album Losing No Offenses andthe Black Album made my heart sad.
Yeah, I'm just saying, well, I'm gonna go back and tell you

(29:23):
I really think you should have enteredand open the wind. A lot of
your records of Oh yeah, Iwasn't gonna mention that, Like, at
this point everything left is mine isbattling his own demons. Yeah, the
Dog one albums are mine at thispoint. If you will still try,
it's really over. Well, Imean, I mean, so we are

(29:48):
going to take a quick break, and I cannot stress enough. We so
much appreciate all the feedback, whetheror not you left Purple Raining as a
comment or Thriller as a comment,or you left us the depth discussion that
you did. You know, there'sa couple of things that we talked about
last week that I loved seeing fromour listeners, Like there were people that
were like I went into this thinkingthriller for sure, yeah, you know,

(30:11):
and then when I listened to both, I couldn't deny that Purple Rain
was the one to move on.So what's going to happen right now?
Is we are going to take aquick break. We're going to come back.
The three of us are going togive our votes, and I really
don't know how this is going togo with you two. I have a
definite answer on this. I amgoing to come back from break. We're

(30:32):
going to give our three votes onCarol King versus led Zeppelin. We're going
to discuss that a little bit,and then we are going to go ahead
and come back from break and doall of that. Leave our thoughts with
you guys, and have you guysdecide how things are going to go.

(30:52):

(32:22):
for podcast info, viral social mediapost and so much more. We're back
to give a quick recap of thefirst half. We had all sorts of
feedback from everybody, and there wasa whole lot of if this then that,
and oh but I really love thissong and I love that song.
And at the end of the day, the people's voice has been heard and

(32:42):
Purporine is moving on into the finals, which doesn't doesn't surprise me at all.
Oh plus there, that's that's allI meant to do, Michelle.
So you picked Pervarin to move on, and so you're not surprised. Neither
is Joe. While you know whatJoe alf said when I said P One's

(33:07):
so bad, Yeah, so badmyself up. So having said that,
this week that we are talking aboutwhat album is going to move on,
we have a very interesting matchup inmy opinion, because we have Carol King
Tapestry versus led Zepplin four, AndI feel like both of these records got

(33:27):
to where they're at on a sentimentalvote, Like I've been listening to that
song for forty years. You know, I've been listening to that album for
forty years, and so now we'regoing to have what I feel is a
clash of the titans, you know, like these two are going to be
a tough one. So having saidthat, Kyle, if you had to
pick between the two, and wealways do it the same way. You're

(33:49):
you're sitting on the couch and CarolKing Tapestry is laying there and led Zepplin
Forest laying there. Which one doyou pick up to put in? Oh,
they have a new way to spellthe barely there's seven. L's literally
just decided that and then but they'reboth. That's I just have more connection

(34:13):
and more experience listening to I'm probablynot making this any easier on anybody.
But if you put it in theCD Tapestry or you dropping the line,
the first thing you hear is thatpiano dan, I feel the earth right.
If you drop the needle on leadsup on four, the first thing
you hear is, hey, I'mthey don't compare when you put it like

(34:35):
that, damn it, damn it. Yeah. Both, That's both great
ways to open albums, like eventuallywe have on our topics for a future
episode like best first tracks of alltimes. Both of these records qualified for
that, So so does all sixminutes of want to be starting something.
But we'll come back six Yeah, yeah, not even just three? Michelle,

(34:59):
which one? Which way are yougoing? So? I feel like
this this by the way, it'snot a situation where you can go I
need someone else to vote for melike you did before. I feel like
I would want to say hero King, but I feel like I would say
I would actually between the two,if they were on the table, I
would pick up LEDs. So thisis the second week and I wrote its
unanimous. Yeah, I am adoor like I literally feel like I'm picking

(35:23):
a child at this point. Here'shere's the notes that I wrote for myself
on it. I love love thesongs that I love on Tapestry, but
there are songs on Tapestry that, yeah, I think they're here. They're
there to me, you know. And I think with led Zepelin four,

(35:44):
for me, the biggest definitely nota stinker. I don't want to be
misconstrued as saying that, but thesong on led Zepelin four that like I
could take or leave would be thebattle of Evermore. But it's comforted on
both sides, and the track listingby brilliant. And also I feel like
led Zeppelin was very surprising to me. I'm how much the record I knew.

(36:05):
I feel like that there's a lotof Carol King, like what you
said, what I loved about Tapestry. I loved, loved, love,
love, and then there were justsongs where I was like, so let
me let me say this. Okay, so I feel that Earth moved under
my sheet so far away, NaturalWoman. Yeah yeah, you've got a
friend, Okay, So let's justgo on those alone. Those are monster
monster Monster songs, and almost anyother record on Earth. If it was

(36:30):
laying beside it, I would belike, well, we're gonna listen to
Tapestry first, right, But thenlike, and I did this with Purple
Rain last week, just off thetop of my head, black Dog,
I'm sorry for you, Michelle,Hey mama, thank you, thank you
for and lay right rock and roll, which, by the way, rights
beginning, been a long time sinceI rock and roll. Oh yeah,
yeah yeah, I mean the Battleof Evermore Again we all agree, not

(36:52):
not not a singer going to California, Right when I spend my days with
a woman unkind Like, damn it. Right when that song starts, you're
just like I want to be whereverthey are doing whatever. The Stairway to
Heaven. Still no idea what it'sabout, Like, did they know what
it's a Oh I don't know.I mean, there's a there's a verse,

(37:12):
and and you know, I'm ahuge lyric person, Like I'm the
guy who's always like you, well, Kyle, you know this. I'm
always like, you know what, there's okay. So when you wrote this
right, Stairways got a line itdoesn't talk like that, No idea,
what we didn't we spend a wholeday, we spend we spend a whole

(37:35):
day in a pool together. OnceI was there, well, I know
you made it aboundently clear. There'sa lyric in Stairway that's like if there's
a bustle in your hedgerow, don'tbe alarmed. It's just a spring queen
for the main queen. That soundslike some bad stuff. Sure, no
idea what it means, but I'lltell you what happens every time that comes
on live version or not. I'mlike, if that's a like, I'm
like on it, you know, like I'm on it. And then there's

(37:58):
you know, even like when thesecond half of the song, when Bonham
comes out of that monster roll andas we wind on down the road,
our shadows taller than our souls? What the hell is that mean? But
I'm about it. You know, like in that moment, I'm about it
and then you go over the sideto Misty Mountain. Hop. I know
very much what that song is about. That's literally about getting high with strangers

(38:19):
and then a policeman walks up andgives them crap. That's what that whole
song is about, saying, youknow, walking in the park, just
the dude, what do you thinkI saw? You know, like I
love by the way, what doyou think I saw? Like, let's
play guessing game, like I wassuper high? What do you what do
you think happened? You know? And uh? And I mentioned this and

(38:39):
then when we originally talk about thisrecord is uh, it's one of my
favorite It's my second favorite line aboutdrug goose in music, the first being
Fairies wear Boots by Black Tabbath, which we've talked about before, but where
the line the next line is,uh, lots of people sitting with flowers
in their hair and they said, hey, man, do you want to

(38:59):
score? Which obviously there, youknow, do you want to get high
with us? And Robert Plant thenext line is and you know how it
is. I can't argue with that. I cannot argue with it, like
a damn it. Yeah, Ido know how it is, you know,
and then four sticks. I meanthe record is just you know,

(39:19):
and it ends with when the lettingbreaks, which is I mean, damn
it, get out of here withthat. Yeah, I mean that was
one. I was shocked when wetalked about the record. First, you
were like, what a way toclose the record? And I was like,
wait, you listen that long Iwas front door. I was surprised
that, you know, like, that's such a jam, and I thought
it would be lost on me.No, when we when we talked about

(39:45):
Appetite for Destruction and when we talkedabout the Dark Side of the Moon,
you were talking about how you hadzoned out at certain points on this record,
and I fully expected that I wasgoing to have to come to the
table and like like defend the hellout of when the letting breaks. And
then when you went through you're notYou're like and when the heavy PRIs is
amazing, And I was like, wait, hold on, she was still
paying attention how much of a goodrecord that I did not walk back up

(40:08):
like halfway through it, and Iwas like, oh, this is a
great sup, both of you getout of here. Wow, you really
laid it laid us a low withthat one. I don't explicitive expl what
is it? Okay, I feelthe need to back up and say,
I promise you we're not taking asmuch as it sounds like right now,

(40:34):
that's crazy. This matchup, Ithink, for me at least, is
two super interesting ones in a row. And I truly when when when we
left last week, I thought whatthe feedback said. I thought it would
say which is I want to thrillit away? But when I listened to
both, I truly don't know howthis is going to go. There might
be things where people are like,y'all messed up, because that's one thing

(40:59):
that Tap Street has that lights upfour doesn't is the lyrics are super super
deep on Tapestry, and we justwent on about how they're not at all.
So Tapestry might get a lot ofvotes of people being like, well,
look, the lyrics of this areoutweigh the groove of that, you
know, I don't know. Itruly don't know how this is going to

(41:20):
go. I shocked myself even byvoting for LEDs up on so many times.
Tapestry should get a lot of votes, but led Zepplin should get a
couple more. That's what I say. Yeah, I think like at the
end of the day, I thinkthat's how it's I feel like for me,
it's the same way as Purple Rainand Thriller. Like if you had
asked me before listening to both,I would have said thriller, And then
listening to both, I decided verymuch with Prince this one. I feel

(41:44):
like before I'd been like, well, of course it's Tapestry like Carol Kenny
Rocks, and then and then afterZeppelin it was like, oh I messed
up. Yeah, the weird thingwhat Tapestry is. I was more familiar
with the cover people that had coveredher music versus the versions that she had,
yeah, which is the versions onthe record, Yeah are fantastic,

(42:04):
am Yeah. I mean yeah,it's such a good such a good LP.
So things are not going to getany easier because first things first,
as I mentioned all of the socialsearlier, we need our listeners to go.
And once you hear this episode andyou hear our thoughts and everything,
and you listen to these records, please leave us again. We love all
the feedback. Tell us what youpick and why, and things are not

(42:28):
going to get any ease here aswe go into the end here, because
the winner between LEDs Upland four inTapestry is going to the dance like they're
going to be in the finals. So in the finals, we know that
one record is either going to beCarol King's Tapestry or LED's upland four to
decide. The other record that's inthe finals is going to be Prints in

(42:51):
the Revolution Purple Rain, which beatout Fleawood, Max Rumors and Michael Jackson
Thriller to Get Where It's at rightNow versus Pearl j M ten, which
many people remarked is the greatest debutrecord of all time Michelle shaking your head.
No you can't hear it, butshe's shaking your head now. You
didn't hear the Marvels. But toget where it is, Pearl jam ten

(43:13):
knocked out the Weekend Trilogy and italso knocked out Dermot Kennedy. So when
you think about it, it kindof knocked out four records already because the
Weekend Trilogy is three albums. Yeah, I'm still mad that you cheated,
and then and then hullo I did, and then it also knocked out Dermot
Kennedy without fear, which we whichas far as we understand, it's the

(43:34):
greatest record ever made because sounds, which we all agree on. Okay,
well, the whole thing is ifyou had these records side by side,
I'm never gonna put on pet soundsover. Anyways, we will see you
guys next week. Make sure tohead to our Facebook page. I'll leave
the post up and everything. Boys, she's gonna put it all right,

(43:57):
holy go. Hopefully you've had asmuch fun listening to this as we've made
it, so we appreciate your time. When let's hear that feedback by m HM
