(00:02):
Well, here we are in episodenine of the Bonus episodes, and it's
been kind of crazy to get hereso far. I think, Um,
I'm gonna yeah, No, nope, As always, I am Russ and
I have with me Kyle. Ohwell, well that's unexpected. Well I
(00:24):
appreciate that, um, and alongwith us as always as it is.
Michelle, no chance, no needto drop your music on everybody. Gee,
I already introduced her and here shecomes. So as as was previously
discussed some feedback that we received us, that's your theme in life as the
(00:47):
heel you are. You are absolutelythe heel. Like when Kyle and I
are doing something like good and havinga real solid discussion, generally this happens
and then and then and then theentire the entire arena looks and here you
come doing the benstook Man walk.Yep. So I wish I could do
that. Really, you can,you can do you just study it.
(01:10):
There's plenty of examples, right, feel like any testicle size or grape fruits.
Yep. That's a serious condition thatthat's what man suffers from. So
let's not it's not me the lightof that. So anyways, the first
thing I want to say is everythingfrom here out is spoilers. So if
(01:32):
you haven't listened to the tournament sofar, yes, go back and start
over from the start of the tournament, or if you've missed any tournament episodes,
make sure you catch up on those, because literally everything from this point
forward is spoilers. So I'm goingto set the table in the first half
of this episode and kind of explainhow we're going to do business going forward.
Now, right before I hit record, Michelle was all, yep,
(01:55):
I totally agree, and yeah, and I was, and I was real
scared about the fact that she didthat. So I'm certain that at some
point in what I'm about to readoff there's gonna be questions and in comments
and all sorts of things I wouldrather not Holy count Wild No. So
(02:15):
here's where we're at. We hadsixteen albums in the tournament. It was
eight albums that Kyle selected, eightalbums that I selected, and then we
matched them up randomly. Um,we assigned both of us, assigned them
one through eight. We ranked themMarch Madness Style did like one against eight
and so on, and so everythingfell that way. We discussed why we
thought one album was better than another, and then Michelle dashed Hope after Dream
(02:39):
after Hope after Dream and according towho, according to all of the Internet
people, yeah, the whole internetnine. So Michelle decided what moved on
from there, and uh so everythinggoing forward is all new matchups from the
survivors from the fallout that was Yeah, that was Michelle. So what's going
(03:04):
to happen every week is we aregoing to end up putting this to a
vote for the listeners because the Internethad had enough of Michelle deciding what albums
won. And so going forward, what's going to happen is we will open
up each episode with your feedback andyour comments and all the everything the listeners
post on the Facebook post that willmake about this episode, and then we'll
(03:29):
just share everybody's feedback, talk aboutit. Michelle will continue to deny whatever
anybody says about her on the Facebookpage, and we'll run it that way,
and then at the top of everynew episode will announce what album is
moving on and go from there.Right. Yeah, I'm real scared that
you're not actually agreeing to this.I just have no idea what's going on,
(03:52):
right, So basically it'll work likethis going forward. For the second
half of this show, We're goingto sit here and discuss the two albums
that are up against each other thisweek and give you our opinions on it,
and then that episode will basically comeout on Friday morning for everybody to
listen to. The Facebook post willeither go up Friday or Saturday. It
doesn't really matter which day it goesup. And then because there's nothing to
(04:15):
spoil really because it's up to theaudience, So that'll go up either Friday
or Saturday. You'll have until Tuesdayto leave your vote slash comment for which
record you want to move on inthe tournament. And the reason why it's
going to close on Tuesdays because werecord the bonus episodes generally on Wednesday,
so that way it gives you morethan a few days over the weekend to
think about what Michelle said wrong oryou know how right, or a super
(04:39):
deep comment that Kyle had or no, no, there won't be anything that
you said that was right. Idon't think, at least from what I've
read on the internet so far.Well, you did take out the laundry,
though you took out all the dirtylaundry. We don't have to deal
with crappy records like the Dark Sideof the Moon and pet Sounds and you
know, Appetoiti for Destruction And wedon't have to worry about any of that
because you took care of all thoseout of the tournament already, right,
(05:00):
Yeah, I did my job, didn't You had one job? So these
are going to be I think, depending on how much feedback we get going
forward, like they might the episode. Some episode might be longer than another.
You know, like there's going tobe a matchup coming soon where Purple
Rain has to go head up againstThriller and that's gonna be hard. Like
I already know which record I wouldpick from those two. But do you
(05:21):
Oh, I absolutely do. Nospoilers, hash take no spoilers, so
I know. I'm oh, I'mvery dead set too, Like there's no
like changing my mind on it.So like not even what anybody in the
internet. I know Rossa's answer becausewe had this conversation the other day.
Oh you came up. Were youlistening when I was talking? Yeah,
that's what I'll do it. Soanyways, having said that, this week's
(05:44):
matchup is two records that made itout of the first round. Sometimes these
records, there was like one headto move on because Michelle didn't have a
choice. She was like, well, I guess that one. These two,
I think she was pretty definitive onthe first one is eminem Music to
be Murdered By, which previously knockedout guns and Ros's Appetite for Destruction versus
Carol King Tapestry, which previously knockedout Errol Smith get a grip. Having
(06:08):
said that we are all even andgood to go on this. We all
know how it's gonna go. Whydo you keep asking me that? Because
you ask questions often right in themiddle of episodes when we've already decided to
think so before I tell the audiencethat I can actually play it sounding like
you from the computer if you wantanyways, all right, cool, Well,
(06:30):
uh, we just wanted to laydown the law for everybody. We'll
be back in a minute and telleverybody our thoughts on this current matchup and
how it's going to work out goingforward. This is Beer in Front.
Every week i'll talk about a beermaybe we've forgotten along the way while we
(06:53):
get those check ins and badge it. Being the Chicago beer guy, I'll
also talk about craft beer in thecity of Chicago. And remember sometimes the
beer in front of you is thebest one yet. That's Beer in Front
part of the Odd Pods media network. Hey, I'm Lauren and I'm John
(07:21):
and we host the beard All Podcast, the podcast where we talk about two
of the greatest things in the world, beer and weird Al and a lot
of other things. We're funny.Yeah, that's basically what I told him
to say. Good job with listen, yay, but no, seriously,
we try to care a beer witha weird Al song and talk about both
(07:43):
things and go through the conversation takesus. It's fun. I promise you'll
like it. Yeah, I meanif you like talking about random things as
well as you know, fine craftbeers and some wonderful craft music. And
we're back. And I just wantto mention, as I always do,
(08:07):
if you want to support our show, it is very easy to do.
You can go to anchor dot fm, slash Infectious Screw Podcast, hit the
support button and pay to support usas little as one dollar a month,
which is pretty sweet. And Idon't think I mentioned this enough, but
we're really thankful for the supporters thatwe do have, Like so thankful.
Yes, the other day. Ithink you might have opened the anchor app
for the first time in a whilebecause you were like, WHOA, So
(08:28):
I don't like to. If Igo, I'll go crazy about it,
like yeah, and I'm like checkingit constantly where you're gonna say, I
go a little overboard. Oh no, I go a lot overboard. It
no, overboards the wrong word andyou get obsessed about it. Yeah,
And so I didn't open it.I don't want to. I kind of
gauge how we're doing on both ofyou because I physically will mentally drive myself
(08:48):
crazy by looking at it. Sowell, I do that for us.
I know that's why you don't needtwo crazy people on this podcast, right
yep. So anyways, having saidthat, if you'd like to, you
can go there hit support and aslittle as one balcom month it helps us
out. And we are really, really really thankful for the supporters. Thank
you. We do have so andmost likely everybody heard two ads because we
(09:09):
picked up another sponsor. Yeah, and the ad that you hear is the
result of about fifty takes really ohyeah, because of the like the I
don't want to plug them again, but how many of the same words are
in there at the name it wassomething it was. Yeah, that's amazing.
That's a cut and paced job.But it's what that is. So
well, thank you. I hopethey're happy with it. Yeah, the
(09:30):
Deep sleep Sounds podcast, I hopeyou're sleeps say that would be take there's
take one. So anyways, allright, so enough enough of my screwing
around. So what we're gonna do. And this is kind of a new
format, but we're going to tryit out and see how it works.
We're just gonna go around the tableand say, you know, this is
what I vote for. This iswhat I vote for. Then we'll discuss
(09:52):
m why so, um, Kyle, between these two records, which way
do you go? Eminem, Michelle, Eminem, Okay, you're both wrong,
so and and that good reason.Well, I'm gonna just tell you,
well, you know what, actually, let me hear yours first,
not to combat it, like I'minterested. My mind is so set that
I'm very interested to hear. SoI think Carol King, that's obviously a
classic record that holds its own weightin every category that you could put it
(10:16):
up against, or every other recordyou could put up against. But for
me, I wouldn't find myself ifI had those two records sitting on the
table. I want to almost chooseeminem every time, probably just because that's
what I would want to listen tomore. Okay, and in general,
Yeah, though I'm there's smash, say it's in my two album my my
two reasons to pick mine? Thatdoesn't come into play, which is weird?
(10:37):
Do you know what I mean?Like I didn't think about that,
Like you would just want to hearthat one record. I would just find
myself decided for eight straight weeks. No yes, no, no, you
said here he physically told us severaltimes that you barely listen to some of
these records. No no, butI was saying which one I liked better,
not which one I for technical reasonsor no. Boy, I understand
(10:58):
the import of tapestry. I dolike the record, but I don't get
excited for tapestry like I do formusic to be murdered by Sure, so
that's why. And Michelle, whatis your reasoning? Oh well, I
came down to the numbers, Sowhat do you mean the numbers? I
gave Carol King a six out often, and I gave music to be
murdered by a seven out of ten. So I wish you would stop mentioning
(11:20):
your ludicrous ridiculous I don't even nothingabout your scoring system makes sense to anyone
but me. There's no way toeven makes sense to you. Like I'm
pretty sure that you just threw numbersat a dartboard and you were like,
Oh, that's that's what this recordgets. Yeah, the solid argument.
(11:41):
No, no, no, WellI will say that it's because Carol King
had more stinkers on it than music. To me, ordered By, that's
not even remotely the case. Holycrap. So for me, and like
I say, I looked at ita completely different way. Well, I
looked at it a totally different waythan Kyle and I everyone looks at it.
Was a totally different way than Michelledoes. So what I did?
(12:05):
I thought about it like this. For me, music being murdered by is
not even close to Eminem's best record, like his second or his third are
almost in a two way tie forme with that, um, not only
is Tapestry Carol King's best record,it's incredibly influential on all of music.
Who was heavily influenced by that record, like Stevie Nicks and Christie McFee were
(12:26):
allowed to do what they did onrumors because of the influence of Tapestry.
There was stuff that she did toothat I didn't realize we're covers by other
people until I listen to that record, and I was like, oh wait,
yep for me, And and that'sanother minus for music to be murdered
by for me, again and again, I have to compare it to his
first two or second and third albums. Those records are crazy influential, Like
we've heard a ton of rap comeout since, and we're going to continue
(12:46):
to have a ton of rap comeout after it that are influenced by those
two records, whereas I don't thinkanybody's going to be influenced by music being
murdered by, you know what Imean. But and that's so that's not
his fault, Like it's that getslater in his care and you know what
I mean, Like people are lessinfluential as they go on and so on.
But so for me, that's whyI would easily pick the one over
(13:09):
the other. But your your argument, and I'm looking directly at and pointing
out Kyle over you know, personalpreference, Like if you're gonna want to
put on a record and that's whatyou're gonna want to listen to, then,
Yeah, and for you, that'sthen I'm biased towards Eminem two because
I was excited for that record todrop, like it was like a surprise
thing that no one knew about. And I obviously that couldn't happen with Carol
King because of when it came out. I couldn't be excited about it because
(13:31):
you don't know what Carol King did. But what I'm trying to think,
what would her online fans be backthen, like to be high, ye,
be like the Queen's probably like orsomething like that. Yeah, you
don't know what her Instagram followers aredoing back in the early seventies. She
could have just dropped that out ofnowhere. Well yeah, that's true.
But I couldn't have personally been excitedbecause it came out away before I was
(13:52):
born, So right, Yeah, and this is one of the few records
in the tournament that came out beforeI was born. Yes, so I
would assume, just just one moretime for clarification, we're all sticking by
our votes. Eminem, Kyle Eminem, Michelle oh boy, oh, my
god, oh boy, I mayhave to edit out a lot of silence,
a lot of silence. I'm thinkingthere's there's at least going to be
(14:16):
some rumbling in the studio here. No, you make good points, and
I and again, like I said, we talked about this off air,
like I'm not here to try andlike reargue the albums, you know,
but when I put in how,I how I'm trying to think of these
these rounds now is like these albumsspecifically against each other, and there's other
stuff in this tournament that I wouldpick Theminem album over. But you know,
(14:37):
I agree with both of you, like it would definitely be now that
I disliked the Carol King album atall, But if it was, they
were sitting at each other nine timesout of ten, I'm going to listen
to Eminem. But I also seewhat you're saying. But you're also thankful
for Stevie Nicks and Christine McPhee.I am. I am having the door
kicked open for them by Yeah.So I don't know, Well, all
right, we'll bring some more voicesinto that course then right, well end
(15:00):
it up. And I feel likealmost every week we're gonna end up doing
this like me, and you aregoing to agree, and then Kyle's going
to say something and you're gonna belike wait no, and then the internet
is just going to help you outagain. Yeah, It's it's getting harder
now because like I've chosen all theserecords and I'm like, did you take
by the way that you were goingto come in here and just be like
five point five verses seven? Youhave no? I guess this depends on
(15:24):
who how you're looking at it,because right, I do agree that the
Tapestry is much more of an influentialrecord than it needs to be mbered by
like hands down, but do youwant to listen to the one? Yeah?
Yeah, So it all depends onwho you know references. Michelle is
having a hard time everyone So anyways, um so uh kind of as a
(15:46):
wrap up, I can't stress enough. And also, you know what I
should side bar would say, weare fully aware that there's something happening with
the sound. We're not entirely surewhat's going on, and I apologize.
I will get this figured out.I don't think this episode is going to
sound nearly as good as as ourusual ones. Do I will figure that
out. I'm not tirely sure what'sgoing on, but we'll get it figured
out anyways. Having said that,so by way of one big important reminder
(16:07):
this episode, you guys will hearit on Friday. The Facebook posts will
either go up later that day orSaturday. And it's very important that you
give us your vote. But alsoyour reasoning doesn't have to be an essay.
No, you know, it doesn'thave to be a whole big thing,
just you know, it could be. You know, I've heard Tapestry
way too many times in my life, and so I don't even I've never
(16:29):
even heard the M and M album, but I'm gonna I would buy that
instead, you know, or whatever. So however you guys do, the
voting is what's going to shape thisgoing forward. I'm very interested to see
what other people say no, becausenow I'm the door because now because now
you don't have your mind made upanymore. You said eminem so fast and
then you start talking, and Iwas like, shit, yeah, I
(16:49):
have that effect that when it comesto music discussion. I've five man,
this is like a main episode story, but I have flat out and talk
to people out of buying records atthe record store before, like flat out
ben like, let me tell youwhy you don't want that? Don't want
that album? And I've actually heldtheir hand and brought them over to the
section name meant to be buying arecord from. But was it the guns
(17:11):
in Roses section? No, Idon't think I've ever talked to anyone like
gene Are you like Gene r Youdon't like, I don't you know what
I mean. I don't think there'sa way to acquire that taste, like
because Axel's voice is so unique.Yeah, they're like you either hear gene
Are song and you're like, Iwant more of that, or you're like,
if someone doesn't shut that kid up, you know, seeing an angry
kid in a grocery store, You'relike, if someone doesn't shut that kid
up. And I think Russia isin the same way, like you're not
(17:33):
going to talk someone into being ina Russian because of Kenny's voice. Yeah.
So anyways, the last a bigthing is next week. It's another
rough matchup I think is going tobe the Metallica Black album versus led Zepplin
four, And that's like a crosssection of people who really fans of those
bands. Really like both of thoserecords. Yeah, so I think it's
gonna be fun. Michelle, anyparting thoughts. You know, you were
(17:57):
so happy when you came down here. I'm so happy, and now here's
where we are, all right,Thanks everybody for listening. Hopefully you're still
enjoying the tournament episodes. We're gonnahave a lot of fun with it going forward.
