It's the Infectious Groove Podcast, partof the Odd Pods Media Network. Recorded
from Detroit, Michigan and Jacksonville,Florida, The Infectious Groove Podcast is your
source for Jammie Jam's album reviews andthe best in depth music discussion. Thanks
for joining us. Now here areyour hosts. Hello, my name is

(00:24):
Russ and along with me this weekis Michelle. This is our season finale
and kind of I guess the showfinale in a way, it's the cho
finale of the way the show isbeing done for now. I guess what's
the best way to say it,because that's the finale for me, right,
yeah, yeah, I mean,I'm certain And if we, if

(00:47):
and when we do have more episodesof the show in the future, we
will at least talk about some thingsthat Michelle did but Michelle did or said.
In the second half of the program, Michelle and I are gonna just
kind of talk through some fun stuffto do with having done the program now
for three years and we have madethis abundantly clear. But to everybody wondering,

(01:10):
yes, in the future there probablywill be some I don't know,
like surprise episodes of the show orthings like that. It's just we are
absolutely not going to be doing theweekly grind of everything to do with getting
out of the show every single week. And our YouTube channel, Infectous Group
Music, is very much still continuing. We have three different videos that go

(01:32):
up on that channel every single week, so those will continue to go as
well. It's just for now we'renot going to be able to do the
audio podcast every week, so wewill continue to discuss more and great things
to do with all things music aswe get into more YouTube content that will
be coming. So if you dolisten to the show and you haven't subscribed
over on Infectious Group Music on YouTube, you definitely should do that because you

(01:56):
will get a lot more content overthere. Having said that, we've got
some feedback to share from the lastseveral episodes that we've done of the audio
podcasts here that goes why about thatright? Last week we had a totally
up at cover battle for Bob Dylanversus Guns and Roses and the song Knocking

(02:16):
out Heaven's Door. First piece offeedback we got back with it from the
listener Tom who said the Guns liveversions from nineteen eighty seven to nineteen ninety
three All Day Studio version not somuch, which is more or less my
thoughts on it too, And wehad discussed on the episode two how from
like eighty seven, eighty eight, eighty nine, ninety the live versions of

(02:36):
Knocking Out Have Its Door were likevery well known by Guns and Roses fans,
and for many of us, theversion that came out on Usual Illusion
two was like a pretty big letdowncompared to like, you know what I
mean, like what we had beenhearing. But then there's like a whole
generation of people who that's all theyknow is the version from Usual Illusion,
you know. So it's it's kindof a weird situation for gene Our fans

(02:59):
to be in. So why becauseone sucks? It's not even it doesn't
even suck. It's just like alot of us who heard it before that
version like it way better. Andthen a lot of people that's the only
version that they know is that stupidversion. Aaron for my head to say
it right in regarding the same episodeand says another epic battle in another instance
of seth making me feel like anold I actually heard the Bob Dylan version

(03:20):
first, and it was because ofmy parents. But it was because of
my parents. Thank you very much, Aaron says. Nick Macchietto writes and
says, so you talk about greatvocal range had me remembering a now defunct
band called Fair to Midland. Theywere one of my favorite bands back in
the day, but the first timeI heard their vocalist vocal range, I
was stunned. Check out their songDance of the Manatee as a great example

(03:40):
which we will do. We lovewhen the listeners tell us stuff to listen
to. You love it, yes, I know you don't. The last
couple of things to share, ourfriend Dayton said, with you guys leaving,
I guess I have to find anotherpodcast for Monday to take the Monday
spot. That won't be easy.Thank you for exposing me to more music,
always making me laugh and always beingthe best part of my Monday,

(04:00):
which is very very sweet thing tosay. And then our friend Dean over
in the UK added on to thatand said, I second this. It's
been great to be on this journeywith so many others and seeing and hearing
you guys go from strength to strength. I'm absolutely gutted that we'll be missing
the regularly scheduled episodes and it's greatthat you'll still graceless with a few episodes
down the road. Another thing I'vealways enjoyed is the interviews that you guys

(04:23):
managed to score and exposed me tomany different artists in their backgrounds, which
is another feather in your bow. Also, the video content that you guys
put on YouTube is up there withthe best out there, and the hard
work you guys always put in themas really appreciated, So that was very
nice, I thought as well.So kind of, I assume next week
on Twitter we'll have a lot ofpeople writing it about you know, this

(04:43):
being the last of the audio episodesand whatnot, So I thought it was
nice that there were a few peoplethat reached out ahead of time to let
us know what they thought, whichI thought was cool. So we will
move on to our next segment, our Jimmy, I have a couple of
very weird songs, like, notthat the songs themselves are weird, just
that they kind of were all bunchedtogether in my head. This week is

(05:05):
my Jamie James. First of allis a Kelly Clarkson a song that I
think was like a pretty big hitat the time, but I don't think
anybody really remembers is she had asong called Mister Know It All that I
really really really love and the course, like the verses, I didn't say
nobody knows it. I said itwas a big hit when it came out,
and I think it got forgotten fairlyquickly, Like I don't think it's

(05:27):
one that many people think of,right, Yeah, So, I mean
the verses are fine and everything, but I think the course is just so
damn catchy, and she's such asuch an excellent vocalist. So I've had
that song cycle that in my headone year, going to be really upset
that I had stuck in my head. Is the one Mumford and the Sun
song you don't like, which isDarkness Visible from their album Delta. I
just absolutely adore that song. It'sone of my favorite Mumford and Sun songs.

(05:53):
Obviously they love it, as yousaw saw by the time when we
went and saw them live and theyit was like absolutely the centerpiece of the
entire concert. I don't recall.Right, And then yet again, I
bought Culture Club tickets. They aretouring this summer, and I'm really really
excited to go see Culture Club again. So because of that Lauren actually asked
me to start kind of giving hera like a rundown of other songs,

(06:16):
you know, like besides just theirbig hits, right, so like not
Karma Chamillia or do you really wantto hurt me in that type of thing.
So because of that, I havebeen listening a lot to a song
called move Away, which is awhich was like a mild hit. I
think it hit like the top thirtyor something like that. But I really
really really loved that song by aculture club, move Away, So I've
had that a lot in my head. And then the other one that was

(06:38):
not even close to a hit butis one of my absolute favorite culture club
songs, is a beautiful love songfrom there Don't Mind if I do album.
It's called Strange Voodoo, and it'sjust such a such a great song,
really really really strong love song thatI don't think many people even to
this day, probably a lot ofpeople don't even understand a lot of what's

(06:58):
going on in those lyrics, andit's really something else. I love that
so kind of for completely well.I mean, even the culture club songs
are very different from each other. One is a very big ballad and the
other one is like almost a motownsounding song. And then those, of
course sound different from the momfred andsongs cut and all of which sound different
Kelly Clarkson cut. So I've hada lot of weird, different stuff stuck

(07:19):
in my head this week, Michelle, Yeah, it's all good stuff.
What audio book were you listening to? Um? No audiobooks this week?
I have two that you'll like inone that you'll hate. Okay, good.
Noah con did a duet I guesswhat you would call it with Wesley
Schultz of the Luminaires and they coverhow were we confused if it's a duet

(07:40):
or not. They don't sing atthe same time, but they sing on
the same track. Yeah, theyboth sing, then then that's a duet.
The tag team this time, you'reunder the impression at a duet is
only when people are singing at thesame time. No, that's not a
duet. So too, I'm sayingthat's not the only thing that makes a
duet, Like if you ever likeLeather and Lace by John Henley and Stevie

(08:05):
Nicks, Okay, islands in thestream like yeah, okay, tons of
songs where people don't sing it exactlythe same time I sing the course together.
Yep, okay, anyways, sogo on. So no Con and
Wesley Schultz from The Lumineers cover JasonIsabel and the four hundred Watts. I

(08:26):
think, let me look that upbefore I get it wrong in the four
hundred unit all right way, Whichso I like a lot of things that
a lot of covers of Jason Isabel'sthat other people sing. But then when
I go to listen to Jason isabelsongs, I don't love them. That's
I'm the same way. Um,I think he's just an excellent lyricist,
right, But anyways, the songis called if We're Vampires, and it's

(08:48):
I love the lyrics, and obviouslyI love both of the singers on the
duet. On the duet, Soif you like Jason Isabel or any of
these people, you check it out. And then I know we don't like
robots. But I've been listening tothis AI robot on Spotify when I can't
figure out what I want to listenexcuse me listen to And it was like,

(09:09):
hey, these are songs you werelistening to in twenty eighteen in the
summertime. Maybe this will get youin the mood, and I was like,
fuck yeah. And the first onethat I that I that's been stuck
in my head is take Your Mamaby Scissor Sisters. Oh what a jam?
Like, how can I not putyou in a good mood? It's
like literally impossible. It's one ofthe happiest songs I've ever heard in my
life. And it's one of thosesongs where I'll go through periods of my

(09:31):
life where I just forget it exists, and then it pops up and then
I'm obsessed with it for a reallylong time. You know what song I
honestly don't know. You may ormay not know by them though that's an
absolutely the same category is I don'tfeel like Danson. Of course I know
that song. Okay, Well,I don't know what you know about the
Scissors Sisters. We went and sawhim live? Oh oh okay. So
just so I'm clear, if youand I've ever been to a concert,

(09:52):
then you know every song that band'sever done, every song that they've done
live, and that at that concertwhere I was at, well, you
gotta be real happy this show's ending, so you never have to back up
what you just said. Go up. But yes, I don't feel like
dancing. I think is such apeppy, upbeat, great song, and
you talk about a song that likesounds so happy but it's not. Yeah,

(10:16):
but it's fine. Just pop yourhead along to it, right,
yeah, but yeah? But yeah, I Take Your MoMA. I love
that song so much. I fromliterally it's one of the few songs in
life. And actually I remember hearingthat song and another song I heard on
the exact same day for the firsttime ever, So I remember you mind

(10:37):
blown absolutely, but I remember forsure. The day was July fifth,
two thousand and eight, was theday that I heard Take Your Mama for
the first time, and the sameday I heard all these things that I've
done by the Killers the same day, and it was because of Pink Floyd
reuniting for Live eight. So Iwas watching that concert all day, and

(11:01):
I don't believe there was nothing throughthe concerts that like that I didn't like,
but those I remember distinctly hearing thosetwo songs for the first time that
day and being like, holy crap, are you an assistant that I was
there for this? You were atmy house for part of that day,
Yes, yes you were. Butit's like that's really there's absolutely no need
to continue arguing this. But youwere one hundred percent in my house during

(11:24):
that day. You might not havebeen there for the old day, but
you were there for people work.Okay, So anyways, what else are
you listening to? Oh? Andyour favorite song, um the better known
Rosanna by Wax? Oh yeah,No, Well, if I had gone
the whole rest of my life withoutwithout being reminded of that song, I
would have been really happy. Ithought were trying to be upbeat. I
don't know what you mean. You'retrying to be upbeat. We're not supposed

(11:46):
to say this sucks. Oh yeah, well, I at no point did
I say that song sucks? Isaid, I said if I said,
if I go the rest of mylife without hearing that, I said,
oh my god, this song sucks. If I go the rest of my
life. Okay, Well, Iguess what I meant to say was if
I go the rest of my lifewithout hearing that wonderful song. I guess.

(12:09):
I know it's not even that good, but it's so catchy and I
can't. I can't turn it off. It is not any good at all.
And I just man said, I'mreally upset that I remember that song
though, so I'm sorry. Isthat everything that you've been listening to that
is um with an honorable mention? But from Caribouloo that came out? Oh
yeah, I see. Now there'sa song that's terrible and I don't mind

(12:31):
remembering at least at least that's afun song that actually came out this morning
is I was dropping back and offfor school and I was like, yeah,
let me roll school parking lot blasted. Sure. Yeah, So I
finished it when I got to work, so worry. So before we take
a break, just so I know, and I guess the listeners, No,
are you going to put together theplaylist one more time for everybody with

(12:54):
the one again right on? Cool? All right? Well, the one
that lives an infinite infamy. Oh, cal it's gonna limit if great.
Speaking of taking a break, weare going to take a quick break.
When we come back, Michelle andI are going to talk through a couple
of points and stuff about just tohave a done a music podcasts together for
some time now, just over threeyears, and take it through the last

(13:16):
part of the second half of ourlast audio episode for a little while.
If you're listening to the effect ofScrew podcast on the Odd Pods Media Network.
This is Beer in Front. Everyweek I'll talk about a beer that

(13:37):
maybe we've forgotten along the way whilewe get those check ins and badges.
Being the Chicago beer guy, I'llalso talk about great craft beer in the
city of Chicago. And remember, sometimes the beer in front of you is
the best one yet. That's Beerin Front, part of the Odd Pods
Media Network. I'm Richie aka MidnightAgent Raw. I'm Devin aka Special Delivery

(14:05):
Dev. We're the Supermediate Bros.Podcast and each week we give a comedically
informative take on movies, music, television, pro wrestling, and much more.
Check us out at Supermedia Bros podcastdot Com, Apple Podcasts, Spotify,
or anywhere else that you can listento podcasts shades on. We're Off,

(14:33):
We are Back. It's Russ andMichelle walking you through the last of
the audio portions of the Infectious Grouppodcast here for a little while. We
will plan to have some episodes inthe future that'll be kind of a surprise
stuff here and there. But whatwe are not going to do is put
ourselves through the grind anymore of doinga weekly show because there is just too
much going on in all of ourlives to be able to keep up with

(14:56):
it was just so hard. Wellyeah, I mean I was gonna say,
I don't know how to say thisnicely, but like, yeah,
this is like a thousand times harderfor me, so it you know,
it is a lot to keep upwith him. My big thing is that
I don't feel like at any pointwe ever put out a bad episode or
a bad series of episodes, andI did not ever wanted to get to

(15:20):
the point where that's what it became, where it became a bad, bad
series of episodes. So I wouldrather make sure that the show maintained the
quality that I feel like it hadthe entire time, and then, you
know, just take a break andif we want to do it again someday,
or if we have other stuff thatwe can do under the Infectious Grew
Music brand, like we do overYouTube or whatever, then that would be

(15:41):
a good way to go. Sohaving said that, we just came up
with a bunch of points of thingswe were going to talk through for this
last episode and stuff. Since it'skind of it would be kind of weird
to do like an album review orI don't know music at the end,
yeah, yeah, and just belike those album sucks and buy you know.
So having said that, Michelle,I'm sure you're super duper prepared for
all these questions. So I'm goingto start right off by asking you the

(16:03):
first question that we had in there, which was if you have any favorite
moments from the show over the pastthree years or so. I really enjoyed
learning the whole podcast. The wholepodcast. I like, I had never
been on a podcast. I hadnever been involved in a podcast, let
alone on a weekly podcast, andI feel like that was very exciting for

(16:26):
me just to get involved. Iwas to hear people do it, but
you know, never really like toactually be like part of Yeah, I
thought that, you know, therewas nothing that anybody would want to listen
to me talk about, so Iwas like, oh, that's just not
for me. So yeah, no, I get that as well. What's
funny is you and many other peoplethat I know that are in the podcast

(16:47):
community like heavily listened to other podcastsand I didn't before having a podcast.
And I still don't, like, you know what I mean, Like,
I just don't know. I justdon't and We've had many people on who
I've like praised on our show forliking their show. Like just a laundry
list of people we've had on likea couple of different show sets of seths

(17:07):
on our friend Aaron Dayton, Seanand Chris, I mean, everybody on
the odd pods media. Like ifI if I start trying to hit everybody,
I'm gonna make sure I'm gonna absolutelyleave somebody out and upset somebody,
so I'll just cut myself off.But so what I've done, and I
think I've made this clear to youover the overtime show, Like whenever anybody's
asked to come on our show orif I've somebody's asked me to come on

(17:29):
their show, Um, I alwayslisten to their shows at least two or
three episodes, like to see ifit's somebody that I would like to have
on our show. Yeah yeah,And if you you know, listen over
the years, you will hear wehave had certain people back on several times,
you know, and other folks notso much. And you know what
I mean, like, uh yeah, and you know, and there's a
lot of social media, for lackof a better term, por shit that

(17:52):
goes on with the podcasting community, and though the people who have been on
our show, I feel like justwant to put out good shows and not
worry about like all the grandstanding andall the horseshit that comes along with I'm
sorry, Oh yeah, no,I'm agreeing with you. Yeah, it's
all I just that's why I youknow, very much like the people that
we've been involved with the podcast community. For me, some of my favorite

(18:17):
stuff, like of course the interviewsthat we've done has been awesome, but
one thing that really sticks out tome, and it's funny because I have
something kind of an adverse point aboutthis same thing in a second here,
but the feedback that we've got onthe show, which kind of ties in
with what you said, Michelle, like in a way, You're like,
I don't think I'm surprised anybody wouldcare what I had to say. I'm

(18:37):
still not convinced that you're not makingthese people up. Okay, well you
know what sucks about that? AndI'm being one hundred percent I was right
now, Like I know you believethat, Like I know you think that
I'm making all this up. Imean, like I don't actually think you're
making it up, but I justlike, I can't I can't wrap my
head around the fact that other peopleare interested. I can I fully support
that they're interested in what you haveto say, which is why we pushed

(19:00):
you to do a podcast, youknow, to begin with. But I
just don't have any like I.It is mind bottling to me that anybody
cares what I On the total side, note by the way, first of
all, I'm gonna argue your pointon a second, because there's absolutely no
reason why everybody wouldn't be interested inwhat you have to say. Second of
all, well, we were sittingout of the couch the other night and
I said something was mind bottling, and like I got all the way to

(19:22):
the end of my thing at Laurenwas like, did you just say mind
bottling, and so yeah, yeah, but without missing a beat though,
I was like, yeah, likewhen things get all trapped up into your
brain like a bottle. I'm prettysure before I explained that it was from
Blades of Glory, I'm pretty sureshe thought she married an idiot. Yeah,
Kyle said that. Now every timeI say mind bottling, he's like,
oh yeah, like when he finishes, Yeah, when everything gets bottled

(19:45):
up in your mind. But yeah, first of all, like you you
know, I know, we dothe running joke thing about like you know,
you're listening to books on tape orwhatever else, like, and I've
told you this before in our personallives, Like you're one of the smartest
women that I've ever met. AndI've known a lot of smart women,
and I so the fact that youare like continually like, oh, why

(20:08):
would anybody care what I like?I don't know if you're aware of the
age that we're living in now,but like people have learned now to pay
attention to smart women. So that'swhy we're moving on up. Yeah,
that's why people would be interested inwhat. I guess. I know that,
and I'm not trying to brag.I know that I'm quick witted and
funny, like I feel like thoseare my strengths, but I don't always

(20:29):
necessarily think that that means that peoplewant to listen to what my opinions,
and so that is what and Iguess so I can't wrap my brain around
it, but like I am soblessed that, like obviously it's true because
we're here right, you know,I've seen what we can do on this
show, and I've heard the feedbackand I've seen people message me, you
know, so I don't actually thinkyou're lying, but it's just something that
like I am in denial about. We just can't let me tell you what

(20:52):
I think. And I've learned thisover time, not necessarily from you,
but from you and other people. The big between how you're you're quick witted
in my opinion, and how manyother people are is And I was literally
just dealing with this earlier today onTwitter. Somebody was doing this to Lauren

(21:12):
on Twitter. People are so concernedwith being seen as smart that they're more
concerned with trying to be seen assmarter than you, right, like snarky,
right, and you're humor like,it's very smart and very quick witted,
but you're also very self depreciating, right, which I think is something
that most people like because they're notused to seeing that. Right. Yeah.

(21:34):
Like I say, there's just aridiculous amount of snark that goes around
on the Internet, and I thinkit's refreshing for people to see, you
know, like a self depreciating typeof thing. The other thing I was
going to say about feedback and thisis still positive because I also have something
very negative to say about feedback aswell. But is the sheer amount of

(21:56):
where you can think that, Like, yeah, I live in Jacksonville,
now, you know, but youand I have known each other for you
know, twenty years in our littleworld in Redford, Michigan, you know,
having feedback come in from like Idon't know, forty some states,
from India, from Iran, fromJapan, from the UK. We interviewed

(22:17):
those guys from where was it likea Pakistan or something? Yeah, well,
yeah, the Dooties. We spoketo them while yeah, they were
in Pakistan. And then we interviewedour nel pinative from the lead singer of
Journey, and he was in thePhilippines, like physically in the Philippines.
What we did, you know? And like the amount of people around the
world who have interacted with us isinsane to me. There is just mine

(22:41):
about like in the best way,in the best way, Like I can't
believe that there are other people ondifferent like let alone different states, different
continents that have heard my voice.Yeah, which is crazy, I think,
which is awesome. So the nextquestion that I wanted to ask and
I didn't even finish, Oh,I'm so sorry, I thought I did.
I didn't know I had one,but I another one? Who was

(23:02):
who was to expect that you weregoing to have more more from the show
that you like? But go on, UM, I don't want to meet
this out loud, but I feellike I've I have been turned onto a
lot of music, and I dothink that it's something that I begrudgingly upset,
except at this point, like Ifeel like I was stuck in my

(23:22):
still, I'm stuck in my waist. But I do feel like I've been
turned on to so many things thatI wouldn't have necessarily listened to willingly.
Yeah, whether it's like album reviewsor cover battles or suggestions from listeners or
making the playlist, and I'm like, oh, I always wanted to listen
to that song that it. I'velearned so much and I've discovered so many

(23:44):
new things that I would have nototherwise done. So we're gonna in a
little bit, we're gonna get intolike, hopefully you have some examples of
artists and albums that like you wouldhave never heard of without the show.
We were going to get into thata little bit. But at one point
then I'm glad that you made justnow. Is it's not just stuff that
you heard of from me or Kyleon the show, like you said,

(24:04):
like listeners like somebody's uh oh yeahthrough feedback being like, oh, Michelle,
you should check this out because ifyou like this, you'll like that
or whatever. I think that's awesome, And I've even checked out things that
I didn't necessarily like. But Idon't think that that is a bad thing.
Like, I think that that's justthe way of life. And I
think that you even giving it achance is much your your miles ahead of

(24:27):
what again, you know a lotof and especially in the music appreciation circles,
you get people that are very muchlike they like what they like,
and if somebody says, you know, hey, listen to this and it's
not something you already like, thenyou just you kind of dismiss it,
right, Yeah. So I thinkit's great that you've had, you know,

(24:47):
even given stuff a chance that youkind of went into knowing you might
not like, right, Yes,um, I yeah, that was And
that was just my other point isthat I learned a lot and I have
experienced a lot so this podcast, and that's the thing that's the next question
we're gonna ask is if you haveyou learned anything from the show, And
for me, there's a couple ofdifferent things that I've learned, Like what

(25:11):
just from the technical side of things, Like I learned so much about like
like I knew an okay amount aboutaudio production and stuff, but like I
kind of feel like I've grown withthe show, like as far as knowing
how to even put stuff out theinternet or how to even get things done.
Like for example, I think thatwe rocketed so far, like we

(25:32):
were like here's these rink etink likeheadphones and these microphones that the microphones are
like, and then like here's thesoundboard, and then like within like six
months, you're like, look atall these things that I've found and it
was just like this grandiose thing. And uh, I think that that is
great. I think that you wouldnever stop learning and looking for the best,
you know, for the podcast, which yeah, which is wonderful.
Uh yeah, which is good. That that that that makes me happy to

(25:57):
be able to learn. Like Iwas just recently did a guest spot on
somebody Else's podcast, and I said, one of the things that I've learned
in life to be happy or aboutis being happy to say the phrase like
oh I'm happy to be wrong,or like oh I'm happy to learn something
new, right, And this hasbeen a big part of that for me.
Another thing that I learned from thistype of thing, and this is

(26:21):
where the negative side of the feedbackis going to come in. And nothing
at all negative as far as likethe actual feedback, Like I said,
the internet's full of snarky crap, right, So like it's actually very easy
for me to set aside like thesnarky comments we get in whatever else,
you know, and just and focusedon the positive. But one thing I

(26:41):
did learn is I put it entirelytoo much pressure on myself with making that
feedback segment a weekly thing like thatif we were ever going to do this
show again in any form, feedbackwould absolutely not be parting music News.
I mean, yeah, it's justa matter of like, see, the

(27:02):
thing is the being a slave tothe weekly format is what the problem is,
because like some weeks, some weeksor you know, some months,
nothing of any consequence happens in musicnews, right, and then you know,
other times with feedback, like weget people, you know, every
week, we get stuff, butit's it's just pain to like gather at
all and make sure you give becauseit's not We don't just read people stuff

(27:23):
and then go oh hey, thanksfor that. Like we comment on it
and you know, like try andcontinue the conversation and stuff. And that's
across three different social media platforms inaddition to reading it on the show,
and then when people hear us readit, we follow up on that,
you know what I mean. Soit's like it was a lot more work
that I It was a fun segmentto have, but added way too much

(27:45):
work to me to keep up with. Does that make sense? No,
absolutely makes sense. So but nowearlier you were talking about one of the
things you learned from the show waslike different artists and stuff, which will
go into it a bit, butthere are there other things that you learned
from this whole experience. You're noteven maybe surprised by it, but just
other things you've learned from it.This one was a hard one for me
because I feel like I definitely alreadyknow everything. Nope, I feel like

(28:08):
I learned so much. I mean, we went through a pandemic during this
podcast. Yea, we learned howto adapt, We learned how to you
know, like do so many thingsthat it wasn't. I feel like I'm
just not even close to the sameperson that we were when we started this
podcast. And I feel like thispodcast has a lot to do with it,
like obviously you know, personal lifeaside, but I feel like this

(28:30):
is just something that we have agrown and evolved and we've learned to you
know, love and nurture and likeI mentioned before, podcasting in general.
It's something that was always very elusiveto me. And I just feel like
I'm have learned so much. Imean not really because you do all the
button pushing, but I mean likejust showing up and you know, having

(28:52):
stuff to talk about that you doand where to post it, which you
know, we'd figured out a longtime ago, and I can't even imagine.
I feel like this was a veryeye opening experience in general for everything
across the board, Like I'm listeningto new music and learning it and meeting
new people. I feel like thatwas a great thing. Um there's several
people that we've met through here, either through feedback or Collins or they've been

(29:18):
guests on the show that you know, I'm sure those relationships will continue on.
So yeah, for sure, Yeah, definitely, there's like as much
as I say that there are alot of negatives to the social media aspect
of podcasting, there are definitely peoplefrom the podcast community that I would absolutely
call friend and you know, likeeven it's crazy, but not given the

(29:41):
climate that I live in now,Like a lot of people, like when
we get around a winner, there'speople in the podcast community that are like,
you know, oh, hey, you're in a warmer climate, right,
like, like we're gonna come downand see you, like, and
you hang out with people that younever would have met without. I feel
like music like that isn't is likethat a lot in general? Yeah,
just the as a community. Imean obviously there's people that suck, but

(30:02):
like I feel like you can findclose life ohone friendships you know, right,
you know, oh, just similarmusics and so that's I mean you've
literally, yeah, I mean you'veintroduced me to other people prior to this,
you know, like auto for one, Like I still you know,
we're friends on social media and whatever, and so like that's it's just like
friendships that I would have never hadif it wasn't for music or the podcast.

(30:23):
No, I totally agree. Yepuh. When you touched on this
a little bit earlier, and Iwanted to talk about I have at least
two examples of myself, ones fromyou and ones from Kyle. Actually,
but were there any new artists oralbums that you can think of? And
again, this doesn't have to belike a complete list or anything, but
new albums or artists and stuff thatyou got turned down too because of the

(30:47):
show? Is there anything anything thatyou can think of? All the stuff
I got turned onto so many things, and I don't remember if it was
specifically from the show or if itwas something that like just the three of
us had talked about, like becausewe have that chat, you know,
so I don't know. Most ofthe time when we talk in that chat,
it ends up on the show.Hi. Yeah, have you made

(31:11):
it barely? Kyle has joined theshow and he is so much louder than
Michelle. Can you pull your micNo, no, Michelle, leave your
mike where it is, Kyle pullyours a little? There we go.
Yeah, when you joined, you'reon the same channel, so I can't
really do anything about the audio. So oh yeah, okay, So anyway,
did you put your man escaped shirton for this episode. Yes,

(31:33):
nice, well done. Uh well, what we were just talking about,
Kyle, was artist that or ourartists or albums that you have been turned
onto because of the show, Likebecause of and you're never gonna believe this.
I'm glad you are sitting down whenyou joined us. But Michelle couldn't
answer the question. I was gonnasay Billy Kilish, And I don't remember
if it was from the show, like or Kyle or were you guys?

(31:55):
But I feel like I liked theone song, but then when her new
album came out, I was justlike went and then you I think,
I don't remember how this chain ofevents. And I feel like that was
because of the show. I feellike both Kyle and I were probably talking
about it so much that you wereOh and another one. What's that guy's
name? Oh, yellow Wolf.I feel like Kyle always brought up yellow
Wolf and it was on the playlistso much because it was a Jammie Jams.

(32:16):
And now I enjoy his music, his whole catalog, well, not
his whole catalog, probably because Idon't listened to it, but a lot
of his catalog. You know, how we talked about um, the genre
switching that artists do and sometimes it'snot really very good. Yeah, yellow
Wolf pulled pulled a genre switch andhe has an actual like full like rock

(32:36):
pop rock album out and it's actuallyreally good. Wow, that's that's pretty
rad. Yeah. Yeah, whatI believe he Uh involved Shuter Jennings too,
so like he he had Shuter Jenningsalong with him to do all this
stuff. I don't know, butthey're like kind of like a little group
I guess. I don't know,but it's good. Nice. Do you

(32:57):
have any examples of stuff, Kylethat you got turned on too through the
show. It doesn't have to belike a complete list or anything in specific,
but just maybe an artist or analbum or anything that you could think
of. The first the first thingthat comes to mind is Greenlong Oh yeah,
oh yeah, which which is fantastic. Yeah. What's his name?
Will? Yeah? Shout out toWill. Yeah. He was Will from

(33:17):
the UK, a big supporter ofthe show, and he as far as
I'm aware, last I heard fromhim, he had owned opened up his
own record store. Yea on socialmedia still yeah, and that's why his
UH podcast shut down because he's anew parent and UH and as a record
store for him. Yeah, thingsto things to tend to. Like that

(33:38):
the two artists that I could thinkof that I got turned down to specifically
because of the show, because ifboth of you talking about them on the
show was Maggie Rogers and Matt Mason. Yeah, which is two artists that
I really didn't know. I mean, I don't even think. I don't
think I even heard of either ofthem. I don't think without though you're

(34:00):
talking about him on the show.Yeah, I want to feel like we
all, Kyle and I kind offell into him at the exact same time,
and then we were doing the podcastat the same time, so I
feel like it was very coincidental.Gotcha. Yeah, that's crazy that you
mentioned him, because that's literally oneartist that I listened to him every single
day. Well, Matt Mason,Yeah, right on, in some fashion

(34:21):
or another, he ends upon aplaylist and I'm playing while I'm driving the
car, or like I'm intentionally listeningto his new album or whatever it is.
But literally every day, are yougoing to sand when he's in Jacksonville?
I didn't know is he coming toJacksonville? Yes? Okay, well
I well I was unaware. Iguess I I thought I sent it to
you. Maybe I didn't. Maybemaybe you did. I didn't. I

(34:43):
don't believe. So this is thisis for a discussion offline. This is
such a weird concert market down here. Like it's so weird because it's absolutely
not a music city in any way, shape or form or anywhere near the
level Detroit is so like you,at least me, I never hear about

(35:04):
anything coming show wise until like theday before. Like there's like it's already
described, there's like no hyper promotion. Yeah, it's very it's very strange
down here. It's like very veryvery strange. There's Yeah, so I
if I if I had heard aboutit, I won't hear about it again
until like the day before the show, and then I'll be like, oh,
yeah, oh it's sold out.But there you go. Rest you're

(35:25):
going to see him and sold out. Yeah, it's June tense. It
could have been your early birthday present. Man. Oh, I will be
on the land of that day anyways. Point oh, that's where I just
saw a long bellow there. Okay, anyways, pantre vidra. Oh is
that how you say it? Thatis how you say it? I know

(35:45):
because Zach from The Long Bellow saidit about one hundred times during the show
because he really trust him. Heenjoyed saying pantre vidro, no, I
trust to people who live in thecity that we were in who were saying
it that way. But it wasthen it was also funny that Zach was
saying that. But U, Kyle, you did join us just in time
for the very very last question thatwe had lined up for the show,
which is uh, and this one. I think it's at least fun Was

(36:07):
there anything that we never covered onthe show that you always wanted to?
Like? I don't mean like Iwas open we were going to cover this
album or this artist or whatever, but like, was there a topic or
anything like music related that you couldthink of that we I have one,
but it's like fairly new, soit's like, I guess we didn't really
weren't going to have a chance tocover it. But do either of you

(36:28):
have any that you could think oflike topics or any or even if it
could be an album or artist thatyou wanted us to cover that we never
did. I said this last week, but I really wish I would have
picked that Jimmy E World for aWe just had somebody on Twitter the other
day say that they are realized thatlate to the party, but they just
now became a big, huge JimmyWorld fan. And I replied to them

(36:49):
and told them that you would bepleased to find that. I'm very pleased.
You can you can relay my pleasanttrees will do Kyle. Anything you
can think of that even an artistor an album or any thing that you
wish we would have covered that wenever did. No, I don't.
I don't think so. I thinkthat yeah, nothing when you ask that,

(37:09):
nothing jumps out right away. Likemaybe if I was to think about
it for a while, I cancome up with something, But nothing like
roughhand gotcha for me? The bigthing. And again this is such a
new thing, but I absolutely ifthe show was going to do another season,
we absolutely would have ranted about AIand music. Oh my god.

(37:29):
Yeah, and this thing where nowall of a sudden, you know,
if you just go to YouTube today, like even in its infancy, the
amount of fake AI songs that areout there is insane. And oh,
I heard on the radio the otherday that Timberland really either released a song
or just put it on a socialmedia but it's him and Biggie and like

(37:52):
it's Ai Biggie and it sounds fuckingawful, Like even the Timberland parts sound.
Yeah. Well, there's there's aton of stuff on YouTube right now
that sounds amazing. But yeah,we could have done a whole serious about
Ai and all the crazy shit that'sgoing on with that. Yeah, and
it's it's just insane to me,what's going on with all that? Oh
yeah, go ahead, Michelle.Um I wish that we could have done

(38:15):
what we talked about in the beginning, is like recording live from places which
you know, pandemic, but umI was really looking forward to that to
like setting up somewhere and like,I don't know, I thought it would
be cool and interesting and people couldcome and meet us or whatever. Not
that we're that famous but in Michigan, but you know, just sit down
and do stuffing like oh man,I mean me and Ruscue recognized in person,

(38:37):
So yeah, that's famous. Wellyou guys are right, but no,
that was there was twofold to thatone. You already mentioned the pandemic.
Uh kind of shut that down inthe first half of the show,
and then you know, me movinga thousand miles away kind of. Yeah.
No, I mean for sure, that's really inconvenient that you did that
right as the pandemic was ending,so right, yeah, sorry about that.
But um, I do feel likemaybe if there wasn't a global pandemic

(39:01):
for three years that maybe in thattime. Oh no, for sure,
definitely I did. I really thoughtthat we were going to be able to
do that and like pass out businesscards and like do all that fucking shit
at like a record store. Soyeah, well maybe maybe maybe in the
future, maybe you know, fiveten years down the road, will be
doing that. So if we uhstart show back up, you're saying you're

(39:22):
going to do more for it nexttime? Yeah, in person, No,
it'll be aim ashell all this time. Yeah, can you do an
hand? Yeah we can believe itor not if we can with the with
all that technology that's out there, and yeah, yep absolutely. But yeah,
concert reviews, like we would allgo to concerts and like do that

(39:44):
kind of thing, and like that'sthat's the stuff that I was really looking
forward to. That kind of gotshit now, Yeah, and again,
pandemic really was the thing that ButI also believe in you know, on
the other hand, that this helpedlike all of us get through a lot,
like the three of us and alot of other people get through a
really tough time. Yeah, especiallytoo if you listen to like the back
when we did the I mean,we were up to two episodes a week

(40:07):
for a while because people were askingfor it. Because that's how the album
Tournament came about. Yeah, andlike it also the album tournament that was
fun. I would like to dothat again. I want to pick the
albums though this time. Anyways,Wait, you want to pick the albums?
You want to pick the albums andjudge the album Tournament. No,
I don't want to judge it.Someone else to judges it. I see.
Okay, Well, if I guessyou know what we'll do is we

(40:31):
we will tell our listeners, ourcurrent listeners if if if our current listeners
really really really super duper want moreepisodes, like they all keep telling us
that they do, then go backand listen to the album Tournament again and
tell us if you would like usto do another album tournament. And if
so, then I will get atMichelle about her picking the albums and how
we would even go about that becausewe could do it. We could do

(40:52):
that as a you know how theybring series back for like a limited run,
you know, like they bring TheX Files back for like a season
or whatever. Development. Yeah, yeah, we could. We could do
that and just do maybe we couldjust do like an album tournament in a
year or something, because I don'tknow what was that eight episodes or something
like that. No, well maybeI think it was eight albums, so
it was sixteen episodes something like that. Yeah, so I think that's more

(41:13):
accurate. But we could do wecould do something like that, come down
and be still may not do itevery week, maybe like every other week
or something. Sure, yeah,I still thought. I still maintain you're
the one that told us we hadto do this every every week. So
I did. Absolutely, We're theone that told us we had to do
this every week. That I'm tellingyou that's what happened. So having said

(41:37):
that, we are going to wrapthings up here and again, like I
said, we've got the YouTube sideof things. Apparently Michelle is rare to
do another album tournament, so apparentlywe have other things that we can be
doing. Individual Lombo concert it wouldjust be two different concert right, Yep,
we could. I don't know ifthe Detroit set list is on h
setlist dot com or not, butthe the Pantred vdre set lists, that's

(42:00):
for sure. So before I wrapus up and take us out of here,
do you'll have anything to add tothrow out to the audience one more
time before we wrap this up andthen tell everybody to high tail it over
to YouTube and make sure you're subscribedover there. I would just like to
thank everybody because I don't think thatwe would be here what three and a
half years later? Um? Right? Is it three years? Yeah,

(42:23):
it's like three and a half.I don't think maybe where we are we
would absolutely would not be where weare without people listening to us and you
know, interacting with our show andcalling in and um, I mean like
we also would not absolutely not bewhere we are without Rust and all of
this hard work and everything that hedoes for the show, which is everything

(42:43):
besides everything that you are listening toand hearing in the questions and everything like
that. Literally everything, Um,I just show up and talk, so
um, I mean, and sometimesthat's a struggle for So I mean,
I would just like so thanks toRust for everything that he does for for
us, because, um, Kyleand I are little slackers. But I

(43:05):
believe that's the first time in threeand a half years you've said thank you.
So I appreciate that. I can'trecall another time, but I feel
like it happened. But I meanit from the bottom line, I believe
do you mean that that like?Because absolutely, Kyle and I obviously are
too lazy to like get our shiptogether, so we need somebody like you.
Um, and so I think thatyou know, at least I do.

(43:28):
I appreciate everything that you know, you keep our our asses in line
and keep our rears in gear, and you know we wouldn't do it without
you. So thanks and all thefans obviously. Right on, Kyle,
anything for you to add before wewrap things up? Yeah, I second
that. Um. I mean,I mean, yeah, you're like what
she said, I'm out. Weuh we somehow made it through a global

(43:52):
pandemic, a move across country, all these things that we would would not
have even entertained the idea of goingforward if it wasn't for the people listening.
So it's I mean, yeah,it's been awesome right on. Yeah,
I have to say that the listenersare has been like we covered this
earlier before you were able to geton Kyle. But the you know,

(44:14):
like the fact that we've had Idon't know, at least at least written
in feedback from at least I don'tknow twenty different countries that I can think
of, you know, where we'vebeen blown away that somebody in this corner
of the world or that corner ofthe world was listening to what we had
to say about something and it feltcompelled to write something in you know,
which is yeah, we had theguy from Iran, Yeah, consistently,

(44:37):
Well, I was Michelle earlier.I know, for off the top of
my head, I know for sure. I mean a ridiculous amount of states,
like something like thirty or forty stateswe've hearned from people in. But
the country's off the top of myhead that I know we've heard from is
South America, Africa, the ukum, England, Ireland, Japan, and

(45:00):
Iran. Like off the top ofmy head, I know that we've heard
from people who have listened to usin those countries, which I think is
amazing. Didn't we oh, wewere going to interview those Australians than we
never did, which Australians Coles friends. Who was who was that? Yeah?

(45:20):
It was like you're like, oh, I got their contact or whatever,
and we emailed them and then wenever got the timing right, Oh,
I do, Yeah, there wasthere was somebody that was your Jammie
Jams Kyle and I can't remember.I can't remember who it is now I
do know. The only one Iwill say this I never I've never talked
about this before that the only interviewthat I'm super bummed didn't work out that
I was working on was by wayof a long story, I had got

(45:44):
in touch with Roy Hay, whois the guitar player for the Culture Club,
who is one of my all timefavorite bands, and it was more
than a few times it came closeto being able to work out getting to
interview them, and that never workedout. To say that makes it sound
like I'm discounting the reviews that wedid get to do, like the Thomas
Jackson and Arnel Pineda and Jeff ScottSoto, like, I'm not discounting any

(46:06):
of those interviews Bill Champlin, likeall the interviews that we did that were
great. I don't mean to discountany of those, but like Culture Club
is one of my all time favoritebands, and that would have been awesome
to interview the guitar player for thatband. So I'm bummed that that didn't
work out. And it came soclose a couple of times, but I
never even talked about it on theshow because I didn't want to. Jason,
I'm not having and we went atone point, we went viral for

(46:28):
a minute there, and it waslike crazy. And I know it's like,
I know it's like common now thatlike everything goes viral, but like
that was crazy. Shit. Inever I never been a part of anything
that went like crazy on the fuckinginternet before, yeah, getting uh involved
in that blabbermouth dot net article andyeah, that whole thing came from Steve
Gorman, the drummer of the BlackCrows, who's one of my favorite bands

(46:50):
of all times. So to getto interview him, and then on on
top of that, I haven't gonuts when I wasn't even trying to get
a quote out of him, buthe just kept insulting the Robinson so much
so they were like picked up onit. So who was our first interview?
What was that guy saying was thefirst interview we did. Uh we've
come a long way? Yeah,I agree, Yeah, like in a

(47:12):
good way. I mean like we'velearned a lot and we've moved forward.
And so I literally, to thisday, I don't know why. That
is one of my core memories ofdoing this show is me on my phone
because I'm pretty sure it was likeright after the pandemic had started. So
I'm like on my actual cell phone, pacing in the basement, like just
listening to this interview and like beinglike, I don't know, do I
do I talk? Like can Ican I get a word in edgewise?

(47:35):
Like I don't, I don't knowwhat's happening. And so I think that
that is one of its going tobe one of the memories that sticks with
me for a long time. Nice, oh go ahead, Oh my bad.
And for anyone who was concerned aboutme stepping away from the show,
I just nothing. There's no likebad blood between me and anybody else.
I just uho, Michelle, I'meither zero or one hundred. There's no

(48:00):
in between I and I. Mentally, I didn't feel that I could give
my one hundred. So I juststepped back and that was it. No
h nothing, more, nothing less, right. Uh? And then so
Michelle, going forward though, peopleyou should would you say, what is
the percentage you should say people shouldlook forward to us ever doing another el

(48:21):
of the tournament? I would doit. So you're saying there's a chance,
Yeah, can we take this summer? Of course? Can we recondun
in the fall? If we doit in the fall, I feel like
I would one hundred percent do it. Okay, Well, let's all see
what happens with that. So wewill, like like all good things,

(48:44):
we'll end on a cliffhanger. We'llsee, We'll see what happens. And
in the meantime, everybody, pleasedo go over subscribe if you haven't.
I mean, we're at almost twentyone hundred subscribers on our YouTube channel.
So yeah, I feel like everybodywho does listen to the show is probably
subscribes to us on YouTube. Butif you're not, make sure to do
that friends. Yeah, and thenI don't know, maybe this fault.

(49:07):
Well I was just going to saysomething entirely wrong. I was gonna say
maybe this fall we'll we'll do thealbum tournament in his videos, but that's
nope. I couldn't get you todo one video. I'm not get you
to do the whole tournament in videosmaybe, And and like, You're gonna
have to write this down because I'mnot going to believe you that I said
that. What if we recorded thisthe video part, right, We We've
always had the ability to do that, you have always I've been against it,

(49:29):
I know. So I'm just saying, like now that I have enough
time to get my brain around it. You know, speaking of the video
thing, we are like literally theonly podcast that I can think of that
I listen to or watch or whateverthat that doesn't have video. And we've
still sustained a solid listener base justby being an audio based podcast. Yeah,

(49:50):
yeah, yeah, which is crazyto me. Yeah. Well,
I mean, at the risk ofsounding and get testical, it's the content.
It's good, yeah, you knowwhat I mean. I mean,
And I I don't say that tosound like a dick like I do.
I think we have good, engagingdiscussions that people would want to listen to,
you know what I mean. Soyeah, yeah, And it's not
to insult to anybody who does runvideo on their show, because, like

(50:12):
you said, literally almost everybody butus runs on their show, you know,
I just it's nothing I ever lookand camera and then maybe a green
screen. Let's start with revisiting justan audio album tournament this fall and see
and see where we go from there. You remind me of this in August,
will do, and then I'll getmy coop in a group. Well,
I will send you a clip ofthis very portion of this show where

(50:36):
you said all these things. Allright, Well, from myself and Michelle
and Kyle, we very much appreciateeverybody who's listened so far. You heard
it here first that Michelle says weare definitely having an album tournament in the
fall of twenty twenty three, Sokeep keep hold of that until it comes
to fruition. But you know, like I said, we have you know,

(50:59):
if you're newer to the show.By the way, there's a ton
of back episodes of the show togo back to and listen to. There's
like one hundred and sixty some oddepisodes before this one that you can go
back and listen to, so there'sno shortage of it's tough to go listen
to now. And then apparently insteadof us going away for good, we're
just going to take a summer vacationand then come back with an album tournament

(51:19):
from what I hear, so yeah, but also like I don't want to
put any stress on you, rUs, So like, oh no,
that's no, it would be fardifferent to do something like that. So
okay, So yes, let's sothis is not goodbye, this is just
see you later, right okay. So, like we have said for the
past one hundred and sixty some oddepisodes, without music, life would be

On Purpose with Jay Shetty

On Purpose with Jay Shetty

I’m Jay Shetty host of On Purpose the worlds #1 Mental Health podcast and I’m so grateful you found us. I started this podcast 5 years ago to invite you into conversations and workshops that are designed to help make you happier, healthier and more healed. I believe that when you (yes you) feel seen, heard and understood you’re able to deal with relationship struggles, work challenges and life’s ups and downs with more ease and grace. I interview experts, celebrities, thought leaders and athletes so that we can grow our mindset, build better habits and uncover a side of them we’ve never seen before. New episodes every Monday and Friday. Your support means the world to me and I don’t take it for granted — click the follow button and leave a review to help us spread the love with On Purpose. I can’t wait for you to listen to your first or 500th episode!
