1 Kings 5 tells the story of King Solomon's agreement with King Hiram of Tyre to obtain cedar and cypress timber for the construction of the Temple in Jerusalem. Solomon, newly crowned king, wanted to fulfill his father David's dream of building a Temple to honor God, but Israel lacked the resources to accomplish this. Hiram, recognizing the wisdom of Solomon and the potential benefit to his own kingdom, agreed to provide the timber in exchange for food and supplies for his people.
