Claude Bates (00:00):
All right, all
right, welcome, welcome, welcome
to the first live recording ofInstructions Not Included,
presented by Sweetf ace Scans.
I got the queen in the building.
Hey, this is my lovely wife andco-owner of Sweetf ace Scans,
Aisia Bates.
How you doing today, my baby,I'm doing lovely and you, baby,
(00:22):
I'm doing great, doing great.
So glad to get this started.
Just a quick introduction ofSweetf ace Scans and who we are,
and I got a few questions forthe lovely Aisia.
Tell the listeners who we areand what services we offer.
Aisia Bates (00:40):
Sweetf ace Scans is
a 3D/ 4D ultrasound service.
We offer services for pregnantwomen and their families so they
can come see their little oneswhile the baby is still in the
womb.
Of course, we're able to seethe baby's gender and either we
can tell the family they're onthe spot or we can put it in a
(01:00):
sealed envelope so they can seeit later.
Also, we love to do 3D,/4D andHD live images of the baby.
Claude Bates (01:11):
Give the listeners
a little bit of why we created
the service and the need for it.
Aisia Bates (01:18):
One of my main
reasons for creating a service
like this was to empower women,so women can have the ability
and the option to see their babywhen they want to.
Claude Bates (01:41):
It's just been
truly a blessing, not just for
our pregnant families, but forus as well absolutely how long
have you uh been a sonographer?
Aisia Bates (01:51):
I've been a
sonographer for 18 years, plus
two years of school, almost twoyears of schooling, so right at
20, 20 years and it's one of thebest things I've ever done.
As far as career is to become asonographer, and my main goal
(02:13):
the whole time was I absolutelylove babies.
No matter what I did, I'vescanned every part of the body,
but babies were my absolutefavorite.
Claude Bates (02:26):
Prior to becoming
a sonographer doing ultrasounds,
you did x-ray correct.
Aisia Bates (02:32):
I'm an x-ray
technologist as well.
Right at 22 years, I'm goinginto this year, which that was
probably, I would say, my firstlove.
I loved to do x-rays as well, but knew pretty early in my
career that I would be goinginto ultrasound and got in the
(02:55):
next term into ultrasound school, coming out of x-ray.
So it was a very selectiveprocess.
Just a little bit about it.
Over 100 plus applicants andthey took in only 16 of us at
that time and 15 out of 16 madeit to graduate.
It was truly a life learningexperience.
(03:19):
I don't think I've ever studiedso much in my life so, but it
was.
It was great experience.
I'm thankful for it.
Claude Bates (03:26):
W what did the
name sweet face come from?
Sweetf ace Scan so there was avery popular tv show it's a
series that was on and she had alittle boy and his name was Mr.
Sweet Face.
I absolutely loved the show andI loved when she would call him
Mr.
Sweet Face.
So I went through, you know, mytrial and error with coming up
(03:49):
with names for our business onCan't Be Mr, can't Be Miss,
because we have boys and girlsunisex and you know I wanted to
keep it equal for everyone.
So I came up with SweetfaceSkins and I didn't tell anybody
the name of my husband and myoldest daughter and I was like
(04:10):
what do y'all think about this?
And he was like, yeah, we loveit.
So for many years I kept thatname under wraps.
We moved from Louisiana toGeorgia in 2017.
And I still would not tell myfriends the name of the business
.
ace Sweetface Scans, Sooooo, what are you going to name it?
I was like, oh, I'm thinkingabout it.
I'm not sure, Because I wantedit to be a surprise for everyone
(04:34):
, Because I really thought aboutit and said all of these little
sweet faces I will see in the3D, 4D ultrasound, that is what
I'm going to call it, Sweetf aceScans.
Aisia Bates (04:50):
That's the one
beautiful thing about my job.
That's one of the beautifulthings about my job and owning a
business is meeting the people, engaging in their lives and
engaging in conversation withthem about their pregnancies and
what they're going through.
(05:11):
They're so giving in, allowingus to be a part of their life,
and I truly respect it and I'mthankful for each and every one
of them.
Claude Bates (05:24):
So what made you
want to own your own business,
though?
Aisia Bates (05:28):
I have been in the
medical field for I think, like
I said, about 22 years, andworked several hospitals and
doctor's offices, and it came apoint in time where I was
starting to become unhappy withmy job, coming home, not being
(05:51):
myself.
I have a girlfriend who callsme Bubbles.
Being myself.
I have a girlfriend who calls meBubbles, so not being myself
just being kind of angry andupset with I didn't really know
what you know.
So, upon analyzing, meditating, praying over it, I realized
that it was my job, it was thepolitics of the job, it was some
(06:15):
of the people on the job.
It was the politics of the job,it was some of the people on
the job.
It was me being under somebodyelse's thumb all the time and I
know I'm a very talented personwho could do whatever I wanted
to do.
And thank God, I had you behindme saying when I brought it to
(06:36):
the your attention, you werelike, yeah, let's, let's do it.
And I was scared, shitless.
I'm like let's do what?
Um?
Claude Bates (06:48):
so it was an idea.
Aisia Bates (06:50):
Um, way before we
moved to Georgia to open up our
own 3D/ 4D, I had twogirlfriends that owned their own
shop and back home, and I justdidn't want to step on their
toes, a lot of my friends werelike you should do it anyway.
You should do it anyways.
You know so many people, you'llbe very successful at what
(07:10):
you're doing.
Open your own 3D/ 4D.
I'm like no, I can't, because Irespect them so much that I
don't want to step on their toes, because I know people are
coming to see me, you know, because my customers really like
me.
They become, we become attachedto each other, basically.
(07:33):
So, anyway, moving here, Istarted to write a business plan
and that took about six and ahalf months and I had no idea
what I was doing, but I wasgoing through the motions,
learning all the steps of abusiness and how to run a
business.
While, Claude, you kept it, youknow you held it down.
(07:55):
You were still working andtaking care of everything, and
so, yeah it.
You know you held it down, youwere still working and taking
care of everything, and so, yeahit was definitely a process.
Claude Bates (08:01):
It was a process,
but it was something that we
both put on our vision board.
We both wrote it down, we madeit tangible, We've connected the
dots over the years.
And so, just to you know, inclosing, I'm just going to let
