Kelsey Redd (00:09):
Hey friends,
welcome back to Intentional
Motherhood, where we're allabout slowing down, showing up
and creating a life that feelsfull. I'm your host, Kelsey
Redd, a stay at home mom of fourlittle ones, formerly a mental
health counselor, and a lover ofnature, and a lover of the moon.
(00:35):
Yes, I said it, the moon. Andthat's what we're talking about
today. I love the moon and themoon phases and watching the
moon and allowing it to guide myrhythms.
And you guys know I'm all aboutrhythms and rituals and the
importance of having those timesand seasons. And this is one
(00:59):
that God gave us along with theseasons of the year, the sunrise
and sunset, the spring and theharvest. He has given us the
rhythm of the moon. And it is sobeautiful when we understand
some of the history, theculture, and even the spiritual
(01:19):
practices that can go along withthe moon phases. So why am I
talking about this right nowtoday?
It feels a little maybedifferent than what we normally
talk about, but I just had to.If you're listening to this the
day it's released, it is a fullmoon tonight and it is gorgeous.
(01:40):
Look up at the moon and we'regonna do actually a little
meditation at the end of thepodcast episode today, where you
really can go out and have alittle mini full moon ritual to
release some maybe negativethoughts or fears that you've
been holding onto and thatyou're ready to release. So
(02:00):
let's get into it. First, let'stalk about how women across
history have connected to themoon as a symbol of feminine
energy, feminine power, release, renewal, cycle, and
spirituality.
Across the ancient cultures, themoon is seen as a symbol of the
(02:25):
feminine, the feminine energy. The Mayan culture is especially,
passionate about the moon andtheir moon goddess has
everything to do with fertility, midwifery, motherhood and
womanhood. And the moon cycle inthe Mayan culture is actually
viewed as the process of thewoman's life. With the new moon
(02:50):
being the beginning and thewaxing period being the young
womanhood or the maiden. Thefull moon represents the mother
and the waning phase of the moonrepresents the wise woman, the
wisdom of womanhood in olderage.
(03:13):
And I love that idea ofunderstanding that each phase in
a woman's life has a specificintention and sacredness along
with we can connect to the partsof ourselves within each phase
(03:34):
of the moon throughout the montheven. With the waxing being more
of a fertility time, the fullmoon representing a culmination,
a power and a time for release. And the waning being a time of
resting, wisdom, and receiving. The Chinese culture has an
(03:59):
especially adorable symbolismfor the moon. In this tradition,
the moon is given agrandmotherly role.
Isn't that the most tender andadorable thing you have ever
heard of? That soft, wise, constant presence who watches
(04:20):
over us with gentleness, reminding us to slow down and
savor beauty. I love this ideaof the grandmotherly spirit
because I often actually, foryears I've done this. Would just
I go outside on a full moon liketonight. And it just feels like
(04:40):
you can look up to the moon andjust tell this grandmotherly
spirit, your concerns and yourfears and your worries.
And she just seems to be sonurturing and so tender and
loving and how she receives thatand then passes back her wisdom
and her support. So that'ssomething I highly recommend
(05:01):
that you incorporate into yourmoon phase rituals. But across
cultures and history, the moonhas always been associated with
feminine, intuitive, emotional, powerful, and receptive. The
moon is a symbol of mystery. It's a teacher of sacred timing,
(05:26):
and it's a mirror of our soul.
So what else did the ancientsknow that maybe we have
forgotten? These ancientcultures were not obsessed with
the hustle that we seem to begetting into. They weren't
afraid of the darkness or theshadow sides of themselves or of
the world. And they watched thesky and learned to live by the
(05:51):
rhythms of the moon and theseasons. I feel like we've
forgotten that we were alsocreated for cycles.
Especially as women, weobviously know that there are
cycles we run through month tomonth. But also in our journey
as women, there are times andseasons we were never meant to
(06:14):
be on all the time. It's notpossible, it's not necessary for
us to constantly be in ourblooming or harvesting season.
We were designed by our lovingand intentional creator of the
universe who created the moon, the stars, the solar system, to
(06:36):
also have periods of waxing andwaning, of expansion and then
rest, of power and energy andthen stillness, of fullness and
of release. So tonight, on thisfull moon, I invite you to let
(06:57):
go of some of the pressures thatyou've been holding on to, to be
more, to do more, to always befixing or finishing or proving
yourself.
I want you to take this fullmoon practice. And if you're not
listening to this on a fullmoon, maybe bring this into the
next full moon that you happento experience. And allow
(07:20):
yourself to just pause for amoment. Take a breath. Go
outside, let yourself be touchedby the moonlight.
Let those moonbeams caress yourskin. And maybe ask what has
(07:44):
come to fullness in my liferecently? What do I need to
release? What fears or limitingbeliefs am I ready to let go of?
What is the Spirit inviting meto lay down and let go so that I
can make space for what reallymatters and what God is ready to
(08:09):
give me so that I have space toreceive now.
As you look to the full moon, asyou connect with the universe to
the divine source to God, Justlisten, listen to the rhythm.
Let the moon remind you, remindyou that you are also in a
(08:33):
cycle. You also have times andseasons. You also have phases to
follow. And if it feels good toyou, grab a piece of paper and
write a little note aboutsomething that you're ready to
release.
A belief, a burden, a fear, andmaybe say it out loud. God, I
(08:57):
release this negative belief, orI no longer choose to hold on to
this fear. And I trust you tohold what I no longer need. And
then you can throw the paperaway, burn it in a safe way, of
(09:17):
course. But just imagine itlifting away into the night sky,
releasing into the power of theuniverse and end with this
prayer of reception.
Let me be filled with whatmatters and free from what
doesn't serve me. Let me releaseanything that has been holding
(09:42):
me back and receive what youhave in store for me. I hope on
this full moon that you have alittle idea of some way that you
could connect with the universeand connect with nature the way
women and cultures have been forcenturies. And I encourage you
(10:07):
to watch the moon phaseprogress. If you didn't catch
this episode the day it'sreleased, watch the phases as
they wax and wane and catch thenext full moon and give yourself
the gift of connecting with themoon and releasing anything
(10:27):
that's not serving you.
And then receiving the wisdomand intuition and emotional
energy from the full moon. Andthen go into a period of resting
as the moon wanes and get readyfor the renewal and rebirth of
(10:47):
the new moon. And it all startsall over again. It's that
beautiful rhythm that we cansync with. If you enjoyed this
