(00:07):
Welcome to end too the night.I'm Narri your guide on today's excursion down
a twisted path. Be careful notto get lost. Be it dark or
light, it's easy to lose yourway. Are you ready? Then let's
begin the Stowaway Part two. Goget out of here, Ryan, what
(00:35):
we need to get out of here? Whatever has killed the people from three
C is following us. If youhadn't passed that car, that would have
been us. Ryan hesitated, butwhen he saw the fear in her eyes,
he hit the gas. They heardanother loud crash behind them, and
another piece of concrete had fallen tothe street below. My god, that's
(00:56):
where we were. Ryan nervously lookedin the rear of your mirror and accelerated
to leave the area and hit theopen highway ahead. I'm telling you something
is trying to kill you. Ihad a really bad feeling about this.
I should have told you something already, but I didn't want you to think
I'm nuts. What's that? Ryankept his eyes on the road and gripped
the steering wheel hard. My grandmothertold me to always trust my gut.
(01:21):
She said, our family is sensitiveto danger, and we know when something
isn't right. It's more than logic. It's something that goes all the way
to my core. I've never feltit more than I do with this.
I don't think you're crazy. Ifsuch abilities exist, I'm not surprised you're
capable of picking up on something that'sdangerous. You're sweet and empathetic. Most
(01:41):
people aren't like you. That's onereason why I look. He stopped,
and he turned his face toward thewindow. His face was flushing. It's
okay to say, Ryan, Ilove you too. It's fast, but
I know I love you. Heexhaled the breath he'd held and reached his
(02:04):
hand out for hers. I loveyou too, Cheryl. Even if people
would think that we are crazy forthat, they laughed. Now what do
we do with about whatever this thingis? Maybe we can come up with
a plan out here in the country. I know the way to my grandparents'
place. Our family still owns it, but it's been abandoned for years.
(02:28):
I think that would be a goodplace to talk through things. Nearly an
hour later, Ryan and Cheryl arrivedat what everyone in the area called the
Old Hancock Place. My mom's familyhas lived here for generations. The house
is amazing, and the view fromhere is incredible. Why isn't anyone living
(02:49):
here? The city called just aboutall of us, and no one wanted
to drive an hour or more toget to work. Makes sense, but
what a shame to have this placejust sitting vacant. Come on, let's
go for a walk down by thebarn and then I'll give you a tour
of the house. They walked alonga path that led to the barnyard and
pasture. Wild flowers waved in thebreeze, and the air smelled cleaner than
(03:14):
Ryan had smelled in a long time. This reminds me of trips to see
my cousins in Indiana when I wasa kid, only this place is even
more breath taking. I'd forgotten howmuch I enjoy the countryside. I've been
so caught up in my job. This is the first time I've taken any
time away from the city, andI can't remember how long. I know
(03:36):
what you mean, I love itout here. I need to do this
more often. A screech overhead madethem jump. It's only a hawk,
but we need to start thinking ofhow to combat this thing. Ryan pointed
back toward the direction of Cincinnati.I don't sense it here, but we
shouldn't waste time. Let's go tothe house and see what we can come
(03:57):
up with. They walked back tothe house hand in hand and walked up
the steps to the wrap around porch. This is amazing. Wait until we're
inside. All of my grandma's antiquesare still here. It feels like a
time capsule when I visit this house. Cheryl pulled a key out of a
zipperd side pocket on her purse andopened the door. Wow, was all
(04:23):
Ryan could say as he turned inevery direction to look at the beautiful interior
of the home. Over here's thekitchen, the parlor, and the library.
My grandparents were big readers. Ashe thumbed through the titles on the
shelves, he became even more impressedby her family. Cheryl showed him around
the house, taking him from topto bottom. On the third floor,
(04:46):
he asked what the overhead trap doorwent to. You know, I'm not
sure. Grandpa always called it Grandma'ssitting room, and we kids weren't allowed
in it. Should we take alook? Definitely? Ryan pulled the rope
hanging from the door and a ladderdescended. They carefully climbed the rungs and
(05:08):
stepped into the attic slash study.WHOA, there's a desk, drawings and
a whole other library up here.Yeah, I had no idea any of
this was up here. These bookslook old. Ryan picked one up from
(05:28):
the shelf and sat down at thedesk to go through it. Cheryl chose
one and sat on the upholstered armchairnext to the window. The pair quietly
thumbed through the pages of the booksthey held. Then they looked up at
each other. Is yours like mine? Is it filled with uh? Spiritual
information? That's a nice way ofputting it, Ryan, I wouldn't call
(05:53):
your grandmother a witch, not atall. What I've read is definitively Christian
in nature. These are more likebooks discussing the protection of good against evil.
I think that's a good way ofputting it. Grandpa and Grandpa were
always devout believers. This isn't tobe used for harm, but for good.
(06:15):
Look at the inscription in the frontof this book. It says for
Adele Hancock August eighteen ten, andit's signed by Ana Spruce Hancock. Adele
was my grandmother's grandmother. Aina musthave been a family member that came over
here during the time of the RevolutionaryWar. The information held in these books
(06:36):
goes back centuries. Ryan looked ather, Cheryl, I think we were
meant to find this room today beforesomething happens. The slabs of concrete that
fell from that building were aimed atus. Let's gather these books and take
them with us. We can poreover them at my apartment and find out
(06:57):
if there's anything that will help us. They carried the book carefully down the
ladder and out to the car.The wind whipped from the south, and
Ryan had to catch the front doorto keep it from slamming back on its
hinges. A dark cloud crackled withlightning in the distance. I think something's
angry. Cheryl grabbed an amulet fromthe drawing table in her grandmother's secret room
(07:19):
on their last trip to gather booksand drawings. At the last minute,
she turned and grabbed her grandmother's shawlthat hung on the back of the chair.
Yeah. I don't think it likesthat we came here. That must
mean we have something powerful to stopit. Let's hope we do. Give
me the keys, I'll drive Cherylhanded him the keys and put the last
(07:43):
of the books in the back seat. She kept the amulet with the crucifix
with her. The angry wind followedthem on their way home, and twice
large oak trees came within feet offalling onto Cheryl's car. Lightning struck all
around them as they drove. Thisis no normal thought understorm, Ryan said,
through clenched jaws. Are you afraid? Do you want to lie or
(08:05):
the truth? Cheryl laughed aloud.Whatever makes me feel better. Looks like
you get a lie, then I'mgreat. The two burst out laughing.
No one else can make me laughunder these circumstances. We're being hounded by
an evil force, and only you, Ryan Taylor, could make this funny.
(08:30):
I guess it's my hidden talent. We're almost your complex. When I
park, will grab the books andmake a run for the door. He
parked in the closest space possible, and they dashed to her apartment. The
howling wind blew debris against the dooras they closed it behind them. Holy
shit, this is ugly. Cherylcleared the newspapers away and set the books
(08:50):
in her arms on the coffee table. Ryan placed his armful next to hers.
Time to see what we can findout. The lights flickered, but
Cheryl position the amulet in front ofthem and said, I think this will
ward it off. Let's hope noflying dragons or asteroids decide to fall on
your apartment. Ryan winked at her. That would get the neighbor's attention.
(09:13):
The two set to work, goingthrough page after page of the books.
Cheryl take a look at this. She leaned over to see what he pointed
at. She read the passage aloud. A goffin is an evil spirit that
attaches itself to personal items owned byits next victim. Once it has killed
(09:35):
its prey, it returns to itshiding spot to wait for another victim.
Ryan shook his head. How wouldit attach itself to personal items it's been
hunting down passengers who travel from allover? Cheryl's eyes widened. Only passengers
who sat in seat three C andall of you only had carry on luggage
(09:56):
that you stored in the overhead biThat must be where it hides waiting for
the next passenger to put their bagthere. Ryan ran his fingers through his
hair and continued reading. A goffinis an eternal being and can never be
killed. Cheryl looked frantic. Therehas to be something we can do.
(10:18):
We can't let it win. I'mnot going to lose you now. I'm
not done. There's a way. What can we do? Once a goffin
has chosen a victim, it canonly be trapped and moved to another location.
The victim will be spared, butit will find a new hiding place
and seek another victim once it's beenrelocated. Ryan looked at Cheryl. I
(10:43):
I can't do this. I can'tsave myself by making other people victims.
I won't do it. Ryan, listen to me. If this thing is
indestructible, it will continue killing, whether you're its victim or not. We
can't stop that. We can saveyou, though, and I have no
(11:03):
intention of losing you. I guesswhen you put it like that, if
I die, the world isn't anyfarther ahead. But how do we trap
it? And where do we releaseit? The wind beat against the windows
of the apartment, and the sidesof the building were pelted by the debris
borne by the gale. Sparks shotfrom the electrical outlets, and Cheryl and
(11:28):
Ryan clung to the amulet for protection. Quietly, they whispered their plans to
rid themselves of the coffin. Thebook offered a way to trap the entity,
but they dared not say it alouduntil they had their traps set.
We can't let it know our plan. That night, they spent holding each
other on the couch, reading andre reading the instructions. This is not
(11:50):
how I envisioned spending our first nighttogether going, Cheryl laughedem not exactly the
one either of us hadn't mind. After a terrifying night of memorization and little
sleep, they left her apartment togo to his hotel room. Cheryl dressed
in her flight attendant uniform. Sinceyour carry on luggage was what he followed
(12:13):
you in, that's where we needto find him. He has had as
long of a night and day aswe did. It's quiet now he's hopefully
gone back to your bag to rest. They arrived at the hotel and sat
for a moment in the car, saying nothing. Finally looking at one another
at the same time, they bothsaid lie. They laughed nervously, gave
(12:37):
one another a kiss, and grabbedthe tools they would need. They laughed
nervously, gave one another a kiss, and grabbed the tools they would need.
As quietly as they could, theycrept into the room. The overnight
bag sat open on the dresser whereRyan left it the day before. Ryan
peered into the open overnight bag andnodded yes. Cheryl leaned over to see
(12:58):
for her. The hotel room wasdark, but something many times darker coiled
itself in the open bag. Noddingto one another, Ryan zipped the bag
closed. Then Cheryl tossed her grandmother'sshawl over the bag and wrapped it tightly.
She secured the amulet on top ofthe bag. They began to recite
(13:20):
the words the book instructed them tosay, you hold no power over us.
You shall be even commanded and followus no more. They repeated the
words over and over as the Goffinthrashed violently inside the bag. At times
it almost knocked them down from theforce of its broiling as they carried it,
but the sacred protection of the shawland amulet had the goffin secure.
(13:45):
Racing to the airport, Ryan watchedas Cheryl walked through the doors. As
the only one who had access tothe gate area, this part of the
task fell to her alone. Ithas to be this way, I'll be
okay, she said. Ryan shooknervously as he watched her and the shawl
covered bag disappear into the lobby.Putting on a smile, Cheryl walked through
(14:09):
the security checkpoints. Little do theyknow that something far more dangerous than they
can imagine is the one thing inthis bag that the machines won't detect.
Walking toward the gates, she knewso well. She avoided eye contact and
made her way to choose a differentgait than her normal route. Glancing at
the board, she found an internationalflight that was in the early pre boarding
(14:33):
stage. The desk attendant, occupiedby an upset traveler, didn't notice.
Cheryl slipped down the walkway to theairliner that sat awaiting passengers. Finding seat
three C, she opened the overheadcompartment. She held the bag up to
the opening, removed the shawl, and unzipped the bag. The golfin slithered
(14:54):
into the dark bin and emitted anangry hiss as Cheryl recited the mantra she'd
memory. She then slammed the doorshut. She turned around to find another
attendant staring at her. Cheryl, what are you doing here? This isn't
your flight? Faking nervous surprise wasn'tdifficult, since Cheryl was already a nervous
(15:16):
wreck. Are you sure I couldhave sworn? I received a call saying
I needed to fill in. Ibarely had time to get dressed and rush
to the airport. She ran herfingers through her hair. I must look
terrible, but I was in sucha rush. It's okay, Cheryl.
It was a misunderstanding, though, because we're fully staffed. You'd better get
(15:39):
off here, though, before thecaptain notices you. You know what a
hard ass he is. Oh true, I feel bad that you have to
deal with him all the time.Well before you have to deal with him,
you need to scoot. Thanks,Amanda, I feel silly now,
Her coworker laughed. Go get somesleep, you look like you need it.
(16:00):
Cheryl smiled, and then exited theplane. I'm sorry, whoever the
golfin targets next, I'm sorry.Hurrying through the terminal and out the doors
to the parking lot, Cheryl ranto Ryan, who was waiting for her
anxiously outside the car. It's done. It's on a different flight. Relief
(16:22):
and guilt swept over them, andthey cried in each other's Arms, Let's
get out of here. I neverwant to be near a golfin again.
This one's going overseas. Ryan squeezedher hand. You're not only beautiful,
but you're smart. No one cansay we had an easy start. No
(16:45):
more turbulence, right, No moreturbulence together, they said truth. The
couple sped away from the airport, checking the rear view mirror just in case.
On board flight eleven seventy one,Captain armand le Gwen made a check
(17:07):
of the cabin before stepping into thecockpit. He walked past Row three,
but stopped and turned around, openingthe overhead luggage compartment. He peered inside
and smiled, Well, little one, what do we have here? I
haven't seen one of you in avery a long time. Yes, you'll
