Speaker 1 (00:00):
If you could wave a magic wand and make yourself
unforgettable and irresistiblyattractive, how awesome would
that be.
Today, I'm revealing one wordthat holds just as much power,
and no, it's not a secret spellfrom Hogwarts, but it might as
well be.
Hey there, fellow introvert onstage.
This show is a safe space forthe soft souls to learn, connect

(00:21):
and master communication.
I'm Olivia Lee and you'relistening to Introvert on Stage,
and that magic word is, please, just kidding.
The actual magic word isattitude.
You might be asking yourselfwhat does attitude have to do

(00:41):
with communication?
Well, to your surprise, it haseverything to do with
communication and how you showup, stand, walk, look, sound
everything.
William James, philosopher andpsychologist at Harvard, once
said the greatest discovery ofmy generation is that a human
being can alter his life byaltering his attitude of mind.

(01:03):
So why is attitude sotransformative, especially in
communication?
Well, ever notice when someonewith a positive attitude and a
big smile instantly light up aroom?
Maybe you can think of oneperson you know, or maybe you're
that person.
People are naturally drawn tothat energy of positivity and
love.
Let's say you're lost and facedwith making a decision between

(01:26):
these two roads, to take Oneroad that is brightly lit up
with sunlight, filled with birdschirping, and the other road is
dark, filled with shadows, silent and seems murky and moist
.
If you're a sane person, youwould have chosen the first road
, as many others will to.
Our attitude toward life willdetermine life's attitude

(01:47):
towards us.
The attitude that helps you tosee things as opportunities, not
problems, will be thedetermining factor of your
energy and how you come acrossto other people.
And, not to mention, that's howfirst impressions are made to.
Harvard study revealed that ittypically takes eight more
positive encounters to changesomeone's negative opinion of
you.
So might as well make apositive first impression

(02:10):
instead of trying to make it uplater.
Not to mention, an open andfriendly attitude makes you
approachable.
People feel safe to share, connect and engage with you.
On the flip side, a closernegative attitude can make
people have second thoughtsabout approaching you, no matter
how knowledgeable or skilledyou might be.
Let's say you're at aconference, two speakers

(02:30):
presented, while both wereexperts in their field.
Person B stood with closed bodylanguage, crouched inward,
barely making eye contact, speaking quietly, and seemed
disengaged with the audience, while person A smiled, had open
body language, engaged andlaughed with the audience and
even posed questions.

(02:51):
Who do you think the attendeesapproached during the break time
, eager to connect and learnmore from?
And if you also think of yourbeloved TV personalities or
YouTubers, it's usually thegenuine and kind attitude that
makes millions of people feellike they have a safe space and
a friend in them.
Here's a quick commercial break, and I'm the sponsor of my own
podcast.
If you found value in today'sIntrovert on Stage episode,

(03:13):
please share it with someone whomight also benefit from it, or
consider sharing a kind review, and, as always, I'd love to hear
your thoughts and stories, sofeel free to reach out to me on
social media at Introvert onStage as well.
Now back to the show.
Have you ever started laughingjust because you saw someone
else laughing?
That happens to me all the time, and that's because emotions
are contagious and your attitudecan set the emotional tone of

(03:36):
the conversation, meaning itcould uplift someone, motivate
them and inspire them, but itcan also do the opposite.
That's because attitude has thepower of emotional influence.
To give an example of making amistake on stage or during a
presentation, instead ofreminding the audience with
something like oops, I'm sosorry, I messed up, or any other

(03:56):
lines that emphasize that youmade a mistake, laugh it off or
make a joke.
It's obvious that I didn't havecoffee this morning and have
the attitude that there might behiccups, but the rest of the
presentation will be great.
It's all about how you carryand finish, not to mention
people don't even really noticethose little mistakes unless you
point them out.
Life isn't always smooth sailing.

(04:16):
As we continue to learn toimprove our communication skills
, challenges, misunderstandings, mistakes and conflicts may
arise, but it's your attitudethat determines your response.
Do that sound scary?
Let's change your attitudetoward it, shall we?
We should feel great knowingthat we're in control of shaping
our own lives.

(04:37):
It's ultimately our choice thatcan turn anything into an
opportunity, but it can also beour choice to view it as a
failure.
So choose wisely, because aconstructive attitude can equip
us with the resilience to viewchallenges as growing
opportunities, learn from themand move forward.
All the communication skills inthe world can be learned, but

(04:59):
attitude is your choice.
And the beautiful thing is,it's entirely in your hands to
choose your attitude in yourpersonal relationships, at work
or while at networking.
Every single person you meet inlife is the most important
person to himself and herself.
So start treating everyone asthe most important person, with
respect and a learning attitudethat keeps you open-minded,

(05:23):
because there are always thingsto be learned from everyone.
So for the next seven days untilyou hear from me again, I want
you to think, act and talk asthe version of who you want to
be, that can be the mostsuccessful person on earth, the
most popular or the mostmagnetic and unforgettable,
charismatic person who peopleadmire and respect.

(05:44):
You have to be that person, andI want you to write to me how
that change in attitude made youshow up differently in life.
Feel free to email me at Oliviaat introvertonstagecom.
I read every email because Ionly get like seven, and you
know how much I love quotes.
So let's wrap up today'sepisode with one of my favorite
quotes by Henry Ford.
Whether you think you can orthink you can't, you're right.

(06:09):
Thanks for listening and seeyou next week.
