(00:25):
I'm one of your hosts, Steven, and I'm joined by my friends and
Coast, Tom and William. We are back from the holiday
break. We all had fantastic times.
I assume hopefully you all did as well.
I don't know where I'm going with this, but we have two
episodes that we're viewing today.
Is the important part Skeleton Drew Season 1 episode 4 and
episode 5 episode one. Guys, I can't remember what

(00:48):
episode 1 is called. What was it called?
Something at at I can't remember.
Oh, oh, you can't. You can't remember at.
Oh, a terrible show. That's that's yeah, it's close
enough. Thank you.
Thank you. And the second episode is you
have a lot to learn about pirates, which is, you know.
True, true. It is true.

(01:08):
Yes. Yeah, no, I'm excited to be back
talking with you guys, talking Star Wars.
These are two really fun episodes.
So I think without further ado, let's let's dive in.
We're back from our travels and and let's start talking about
Skeleton Crew. Tom, what are we discussing?
Which exactly Which episodes arewe reviewing today?
OK, we are going to be reviewingreviewing episode 4, which is

(01:32):
entitled can't say I remember noat Aten.
This episode was directed by what we call what is called the
Daniels or Daniel Kwan and Daniel Schneinert.
Sorry, And this was written by Christopher Ford and John Watts.
The synopsis for this episode isour heroes face a surprise in a
familiar setting. And the second episode we're

(01:54):
going to tackle today is going to be episode 5, which you have
a lot to learn about pirates. This was directed by Jake
Shearer and it was written by me, young Joe Wesner.
And in this episode, a surprisingly pleasant world will
test our heroes like no other. Two good episodes that we

(02:16):
finally get to review because I have been really waiting to talk
about. I can't say I remember no at AT.
Yeah, I, I, I'm, I'm excited. Dig, dig in 'cause I, I talked
to some people who had a little, maybe more controversial
thoughts on it, but I really, I really enjoyed it.
So let's let's let's dive in. OK, in our.
Last episode we were we were asking, we were discussing like
how long will it take to get to at at at right?

(02:36):
Is it going to be 1 episode? Cause supposedly they got the
coordinates from Kim and are they going to delay things?
And I think the answer is both and neither, right?
We, we both got to Adaton and then found out we actually
wasn't Adaton at all. And I loved this twist, right.

(02:58):
They get to this planet and it looks exactly like their home
planet. It has the same buildings, it
has the same layout, except it has been completely destroyed.
There's there's trees and foliage growing in all the
buildings and it looks like they've been gone for decades,
maybe centuries. Like I almost wondered, did they

(03:20):
time travel like that was how different the planet looked and
yet the same They're like that'sour house, That's the school I
and then we find out right. It's actually another one of the
planets that are, you know, the jewels of the Republic called at
Akron. What did you guys think of this
twist? I I loved it.

(03:42):
I thought The funny thing, yeah,I thought The funny thing about
it is, William, you touched on it.
The kids even mentioned when they were walking out of the
ship. I can't remember if it was when
or if it was Neil about could wehave been asleep for 100 years
or something? Because that's kind of what they
thought when they first walked off the ship, because it did

(04:03):
look like their home planet, andit did look like it was desolate
and destroyed. And they might have,
theoretically, in their eyes, even though we knew we'd been
following the story along, they could have possibly been in some
kind of sleep transfer, whatever.
So the twist was great, Yeah. No, I I don't even know if I

(04:25):
would call those twist because it it does take place at the
very beginning of the episode. Very true, but I, I really
appreciated getting to dive deeper into this kind of old
Republic plan and seeing, you know, one of these treasure
planets that has been lost. It might be because I mean, so
spoiler alert because not that this will be a surprise.

(04:47):
I watched this episode yesterdayand the episode 5 this morning.
You've. Been busy because I have
nothing. To not a procrastinator, and
admittedly I was also busy in the lead up up to Christmas for
a long time. So anyway, excuses out of the
way, I also just finished reading the first Silo novel,
which is very Fallout esque if you're familiar with that

(05:09):
series, but in. A great series, Yeah, I haven't
actually read the books, but I've been enjoying the show, so.
I've not watched the show, I wanted to read the books first.
Different issues, different wrong podcast.
But I just I really like this idea that like these planets
were clearly built. There is a structure to them.
They are and they were duplicated across the board.
And why would that be the case? What will this mean?

(05:33):
So I love the shots, you know, of the the neighborhood as you
go through and then the reveal as you land of like, oh, never
mind. This is not the same planet.
Looks like the same planet. It's not the same planet.
Yeah, it's, it's really cool. I mean, I think we find out this
is mostly if not completely disproven in the next episode,
which we're both reviewing together.

(05:53):
But the when I watched episode 4, at first, you know, we had
that utopian society theory. And when I was I watched this
episode, I thought, I wonder if they had actually, I was talking
with a friend of the show Sean about this and he theorized
actually that they were. I wonder if they're he said, I
wonder if they're almost like fallout shelters, right, where

(06:14):
every planet is running different experiments on the
population. Turns out I guess that's not the
case, but I loved that theory. But yeah, I, I just, the fact
that they are all these, I mean,we've only seen two.
We, we learn of more planets at the end of this episode.
Not only is there at Aten, but there's at Akron, of course,

(06:35):
this planet and there's at I2, at Arecia, at Arean and at
Akoda, at Akoda. That's, I think 6 of the 9
planets. We didn't get the rest, but
clearly there's a there's a pattern.
Actually, since we're talking about the names of the other
planets, did you guys have the same experience?
So I was watching originally without subtitles and I just the

(06:56):
first time I think it's 33 who lists out the name, right?
Or is it John? One of them says the name of at
Akron and I just I just thought he I heard like a sneeze like I
just sorry, what was the word you just said?
And I feel like rewind to be like and put the subtitles on
like, OK, he actually said the name of a place.
It just sounded like someone wascoughing into their microphone.

(07:16):
Yeah, yeah, that's, that's certainly true.
Yeah. All the names are kind of a
weird at Aten's a little bit of a weird name, right?
At Akron, at I2I2, they're all like very, it's hard to say and
not not the best. They don't really roll off the
tongue as easily, but. But they but the one thing is

(07:37):
about the planets, there is a consistency.
They all start with AT and the next letter next word starts
with an A. So that has to mean something.
Yeah, I think you're right, Tom,Right.
It must mean they're clear all clearly they were identically
created and it seems like the environments are identical as
well, which makes me wonder are.They.

(07:58):
Well, based on a sample size of two, right?
Like do you think they were? I guess let's just say we'll,
we'll, we'll come back to this in in the next episode, we find
out that they are all mints. They're, they're Old Republic
mints. That's where they print the
money the the credits. Sorry, while we're talking about
this William, do you remember this is I'm pulling something

(08:18):
from Legends and I cannot for life me remember what it was.
There was some naming pattern that got used in Legends for
Imperial planets and I. Cannot put the light on him man.
That is deep pet. And I forget but.
You know what I'm talking about.I'm not crazy.
I'm pretty sure that was the case.
Yeah, I, I wanted to say like, it was like Mon Calamari Mon

(08:41):
something. It wasn't that, but it was
something along those lines thatthe Empire used anyway.
Isn't going to drive me nuts while we're talking, but.
Yeah, now, now I want to figure that out, but I think you're.
Right. Ditto, Ditto, Ditto I.
Mean there was like I know therewas like the yeah, I don't know
yeah OK who knows like they wereoff sorry, sorry.

(09:05):
There's definitely like combinations of letters and
numbers they would use at times but I'm trying to remember if
there was a another DMC as well Exactly either way I think I
think you're right Tom. I think it has to mean
something. And while we've only seen two of
the planets, the fact that they are identical, like the same
exact layout, the same exact buildings, this, like the
supervisors tower is the same. They are a carbon copy from what

(09:29):
we can tell. One just fell apart.
So the questions in my mind are of course, one, why did the
planets, the other planets fall apart?
What happened to them? And two, why were they all
created identically? I am so curious about these,
right? Were they artificially created?
Is there more to the story stillthat has to be uncovered?

(09:50):
I don't know. But there, there has so got to
be more to the story because if even the architecture from these
two planets are basically the same, there has to be more to
the story of why it is set up this way.
I think so. And then, yeah, and and now we
have to find out, at least when it comes to this planet, which

(10:11):
there was never really an explanation of how it ended up
so desolate. But why is there a warring fact
2 factions on this planet and why are they that way?
Yeah, yeah, we're introduced to the Troyks and the Hatton, not
to who's the Adaton the had the Hatton.

(10:31):
And yeah, they, the Troyks are the the good ones, at least the
ones we meet who seem good, led by General Stricks and his
daughter Henna, who will eventually become the the future
leader of the planet. And it's it's I won't say they
they don't flesh him out super deeply.
I think that's the one critique I saw of this episode is that it

(10:53):
was kind of surface level, but, you know, I, I didn't mind it.
I still, I still really enjoyed it.
Right. We we, we're, we spent a lot of
the episode getting to know Hayna, played by Hall of Finley
and, and her relationship with her friendship with and maybe
something more with, with Neil throughout the throughout the

(11:15):
episode. But yeah, we don't really learn.
Like why are they at war with the the Hatton?
They're they're clearly like stealing each other's Eop's.
And it seems like there's a lot of a lot of like long running
grudges between these two factions, but it's not really
clear what's going on except that the trikes, the Hatton are

(11:36):
bad. We barely see them in the
episode. Actually.
That is one critique I I would give the episode is we don't see
the Hatton at all, but we see the trikes.
They live in the old school building and I think the
biggest, most notable thing about their society is they
treat children like adults. And so even you have young,
young kids who are out there and.

(11:57):
Yeah, the young kids are warriors, too.
I I found this entire beat really curious for a kid show.
Like, on the one hand, great that we've got, you know, the
kids are treated equal, but I never got the sense if it, it

(12:18):
did feel to me like they were being the kids in our like Neil
and Whim and so on were being used here.
They were put on. The front lines, which I don't
know, I think I agree with you. Yeah.
It felt like they're trying to say something with these two
factions. And I, we didn't spend enough
time with them. And even what we got felt

(12:38):
confusing to me. Well.
The the, the the four kids were trained way too quick or
basically the first 3 the three kids were trained way too quick
to all of a sudden be see to allof a sudden be OK, you're
trained enough. Now we're going to put you in
front of our, you know, force that's going to go battle these
guys because you're going to be our scouts.

(13:00):
So, but it just when when we getwrap up these two shows, I've
got a I've got a been thinking about both of these shows and
how this whole show is written that I think would kind of make
sense. But I'd rather discuss these
shows first before I get to a theory about the overall writing
of the show 'cause I think it plays out more here.
OK, yeah, I, I'm excited to hearyour, your thoughts on that.

(13:21):
You know, you guys touched on a couple things I think are are
interesting 1. You know, the as we started to
talk about the the Heina, we sorry the the Hatton, sorry we
see them barely at all right there at the very beginning.
The kids are they're exploring the they well actually they get
off the Onyx Cinder and they leave JOD behind and.

(13:42):
And in a pretty hilarious scene,SM 33 basically activates
babysitter mode and. Come on.
Bye. Bye.
It's great. Yeah.
Bye. Bye.
He's treating him like a baby and it's awesome.
But you know, JOD ends up he convinces, tries to get SM33 to
remember Adatten and in the process, you know, he takes them

(14:06):
off of he takes them off of the ship and in the process they get
captured by the the Hatton and. Can I say one thing?
The one thing I loved about thisand I was cracking up.
So when JOD comes off the ship, there's SM 33 and there's the
Hatton and JOD just puts his arms up and say and all he said

(14:27):
doesn't even surrender, just says just shoot me.
Yeah, he's working great. It doesn't even surrender.
He's he is done with all of thisnonsense.
Absolutely. He's like, think about his
perspective. He's like, I got, I got I, I, I
help these kids escape and now they're, they're in charge.
They're not, you know, they're, they've got this Droid who's

(14:48):
trying to forcibly babysit me and they're off running around
this planet. I'm being forced to stay behind.
I, I'm just done with this. Just get it over.
Shoot me. It's great.
Yeah, just the best. Yes, but like that's really the
only time we see the Hatton, right was when they captured Jod
and then the rest of everything happens off screen, right.

(15:09):
He buys some Eop's and and he buys the Eop's with the kids
credits and uses that to them toreturn the money to return the
Eop's back to the the Troik's. But that kind of leads to anti
climactic sequence with the kidsthemselves, right?

(15:29):
So there's yeah, they, as you mentioned, Tom, they go through
the the the training sequence because in order to reach the
fallen sanctum, where the the maps to Adaton are, are stored,
they have to make make it to this, you know, it's this very
dangerous path to the fallen sanctum and you know, they'll.
Which, to be clear, it doesn't seem to be.

(15:50):
They kind of just walk. Well that, that's exactly my
point, right? They just stroll right in and
yes, the Troyks or the sorry theHatton briefly interrupt them,
but it's actually not the Hatton, it's just Jod leading a
bunch of Yopis. And yes, Jod off screen saved
them. And maybe the Hatton would have
put up a bigger fight, but therewas 0 conflict whatsoever.

(16:12):
Like the only conflict is at thebeginning when the kids are
under attack initially. Other than that, it's they just
walk right through to the fallensanctum, the supposedly super
dangerous pathway, and it's totally fine.
So I had to give a critique. That's probably the biggest one.

(16:32):
Just that the the hadn't didn't pose any any threat.
All the the the the pathway to the fallen sanctum was totally
fine. It's resolved too easily.
That said, I still really enjoyed the episode and I can
I'm totally willing to overlook that despite the how simple it

(16:55):
was. Almost hilariously simple in
hindsight. I I think I'm gonna, I'm gonna,
I'm gonna say my theory now. I've watched this episode about
4-5, literally 5 or 6 times. Wow.
The way this story, Yeah, I lovethis.
Episode. I really love this episode, but,
but This is why I think I've, I've attached to this, this
episode was written like a kid was telling a story.

(17:19):
Cause think about this, think about it, 'cause you've, you've
made a couple points. There was supposed to be a
conflict, but it never really materialized.
John comes out of nowhere there. There's it.
Just think about how the story was told and how you're, you're
saying there's plot points that are missed, but think about the
plot points that were brought up.

(17:39):
That could be that could be something like a kid was telling
a story. Or, or it was all Whim's dream.
Well. No, I no, as crazy as and and
this is this is a thing, and I know this is not this is not how
the show is written and and placed within the time frame.
But as I've been watching the show, that's the feeling I get
from this. It's like it's somebody telling

(18:00):
a story. Hmm, yeah, I could see that.
Cause it's kind of like, yeah, goes into detail in certain
cases, certain places and like it's like the fun parts, but
it's kind of skips over the right.
Yeah. Interesting.
Especially, especially with thisepisode.
Now, I'm not saying that I thinkthe next episode, there's a

(18:21):
little bit of that, but it showsup for me how the story was
telling in this episode that I wouldn't say it was Neil was
basically, you know, this is this is this is what happened on
the planet. And like he's telling it to
cause 'cause remember, Wim always wanted to be in a he
wanted to go out on an adventure, OK.
And this whole show is that a bunch of kids going on an

(18:44):
adventure and they're telling itfrom their perspective, leaving
some details out. Yeah.
Or maybe recounting it later or something.
Yeah, interesting. And then the the other aspect I
I see with this, which is more prominent in the next episode,
KB is a very interesting character.
And I know in the last episode we did this podcast, I kept

(19:04):
saying Android Android. A friend of mine corrected me
saying no, what you really mean is a Cyborg.
Right. Because especially when it it
plays up in the next episode because of a question that Fern
asks her on that planet. So we'll get to that in the
next. Episode that's interesting I I I

(19:25):
hilarious. I wonder if Snowball keep the
the little critter that keeps popping out of his eye is
actually is actually SN 33. It's just controlling the whole
thing. That, but you see, but again,
that could be an aspect of a kidtelling a story.
Interesting. I mean, I just, I really find it
with this episode especially, I looked at it from that point of

(19:48):
view. That was a fascinating theory.
Yeah, No, I I agree. I and I could see why a lot of
people critiqued it, right, because it's very, in some ways
it's kind of a very surface level right.
It there's not a lot of a conflict.
It's they don't really explore too much of the planet.
It's too little, too easy. And yet I still really loved.
I just had fun watching the episode.

(20:09):
Absolutely. Yeah, I mean, I think a lot of
it has got to be the relationship between Neil and
Hannah, right? Like, yeah, they do a lot.
I mean, Neil's cute anytime he'son screen, but just the the
development between them as you know, Neil not quite a pacifist,

(20:30):
but you know, obviously not interested in this weird game
they are playing. I didn't go the long way towards
making this worth watching. And also, if you think about
from this point of view, if it was a kid telling a story,
wouldn't this kind of fight because you never really saw any
conflict between the two. It could be a quote UN quote
game. Even she said at one point that

(20:52):
they steal our Yopi. It's it's almost like it's a
game between the two tribes. They steal their Yopis back and
forth and they're always tradinghides for weapons, but you never
really see that kind of conflict.
Yeah, interesting. Yeah, it's, it's it's I, I, I
may be going too deep on all this.
No, I like the theories though, and it's fun to have a show that

(21:12):
like sparks all these different theories, right, and you can
really dive dive into, I think Steven, as you mentioned, right,
Hannah and Neil, they they decide to leave the training and
they go up to the roof and we get to see more of this is
really a Neil centric episode. We could see more of his heart
as he, you know, feeds some hungry children who who don't
have anything to eat and really tries to show how no, you can be

(21:36):
kind, right. And and Hannah notices that and
it's a little heavy-handed, but she says, oh, she kind of
realized that we need more of this on our planet, maybe a
little more, more people being nice to each other than and
being, you know, being kind rather than just fighting all
the time. And, you know, maybe one day
when she's the leader of the troics, she'll be able to bring

(21:57):
some of that to the planet. You know, it kind of again wraps
it up nicely before she disappears for the episode with
a goodbye kiss for for Neil. But yeah, no, they do a lot of
the heavy lifting with the the the heart of the episode for
sure. So we get to the fallen Sanctum,

(22:19):
which is a very, I think the trend of these two episodes,
right? These very ominous sounding
names. Turns out the fallen Sanctum is
just supervisor's tower that we've seen on Adaten.
It is, you know, where the, the mysterious supervisor lives, who
again, we, I still have my suspicions about him, but we'll,
we'll come back to that. It turns out that, you know,

(22:42):
that's where they they, they, they reach the supervisor's
tower and they, they see coordinates to all the hidden
jewels of the Republic and all the planets we mentioned
earlier, all the ATA planets. And unfortunately at Atens are
scratched out. And here is where the episode

(23:03):
kind of takes a somewhat interesting twist.
Yeah, it turns out SM33 it is like, can't say I remember no ad
Atten that he keeps repeating over and over through the
episode is I guess it's not likeon the same levels like
Bioshocks, would you kindly? But it's a it's a it's a clue,

(23:25):
right? He he does actually remember ad
Atten. He's just been had his all
references to the planet blockedin his databanks by his previous
captain and he was told to scratch out the coordinates.
He's been here before on this planet.
He found the coordinates at at and he scratched them out at his

(23:46):
captain's orders and and then ordered SM 33 to basically block
that out of his memory. OK, interesting, right, SM 33,
he's actually had the coordinates all along.
That's already an interesting twist.
And then we find out that oh andif anybody comes along asking

(24:07):
about a hat and SM 33 is to tearthem apart and he just flips and
attacks the kids. I I love the camera work in this
particular scene, just I don't know it I felt like it it took
it that extra mile to make him extra terrifying, especially
considered he makes himself, youknow, he like extends his arms

(24:28):
and legs again and he's already so much taller than the kids.
I think it almost like attached the camera rig like to him right
as he was kidding. It was really interesting and
like I think it went wide angle as well.
Yeah, really cool for sure. Tom, what did you think of of
SM33's attacking the the kids? I thought it worked.

(24:50):
I think the, I think the most fascinating thing was when you
had Fern and Wynn sitting there talking back and forth about how
Fern, Fern has her. I don't think I'm a good captain
moment. And Wynn's like, come on, out of
everything you've got us through, you know, you, you, I,
you got us through everything. I don't think I would have done
that much. And she sat there and said
something to the extent of, well, you.

(25:13):
It was what she said that triggered what she did back on
her home planet of telling the nanny Droid to override whatever
it was I told you. So it gave her that, that little
inkling to go up to SM33 and say, look, I am your captain.
I want you to override what was done before because I'm your
captain now. So spill it.
And then that's when he remembered.

(25:33):
And then all that came out just because she remembered something
that she did to a previous Droidthat basically she did it again,
but kind of got her in trouble. And she's like, Oh no, what did
I do when she tried to do the override?
That wouldn't work. But that whole thing of watching
SM 33 basically quote, UN quote, grow to be taller than them and
with the arms coming out again and the camera work, it was

(25:56):
terrifying for those kids. It really was.
Well in SN 33 just jumps on top of Neil too.
He he he tries to save his friends by throwing a rock.
He jumps on top of him and he's about ready to die, and John
flips the switch. Yeah, John, I think flipped the
switch right at the moment when he basically fell on Neil.

(26:17):
But it was funny if you saw Neilsitting there, laying on the
ground. I loved how his hand was sitting
there on the chest of SM 33. Like that's going to stop.
It right. And then of course, Neil faints
just like the most Neil thing. I, I love it.
And that's where the episode ends.
Like it's a pretty big cliffhanger, right?
SM 33 has has turned, he's kind of the the antagonist at this
point and we are left waiting a week to find out what happens

(26:43):
next. And we did on Christmas Eve.
It's actually the first time we've ever had a Star Wars
episode come out or anything. Star Wars come out on Christmas
or Christmas Day or Christmas Eve.
Mandalorian came close, but thatcame close.
They were released around but not on.
Well, actually, before we go to Episode 5, though, before we

(27:05):
pick up on Episode 5, let's do our ratings for Episode 4, if
that sounds good to you guys. Oh, that works for.
Me. I think that makes sense.
So we'll, we'll leave you on a, on a, on a bit of a cliffhanger,
just like we were left on a cliffhanger.
Tom, you go first because you I know you said you really love
this episode. Oh, I, I love this up.
OK, you know what? I am changing it.
I'm giving this episode of nine.I, I, I absolutely love this

(27:28):
episode because like I mentionedwith this, I looked at it from
the point of view of a kid telling the story and leaving
those little itty bitty parts out.
And I enjoyed that type of storytelling for this episode.
And I thought, I thought Neil shined in this episode, but I

(27:49):
also think the young actress whoplays Fern, she, she's got
chops. She's done very well as well.
So I'm just liking how everything for these shows,
they're giving you enough clues, but they're also giving you
other questions about what's going on to where you're not

(28:11):
bored with these episodes. And there's always something
fascinating by way of like we mentioned the camera work that
was done for SM33 when he got into his his crazy mode to sit
there and basically tear the kids apart, you know, or the
writing of the episode and how it's being told or just the
scenery when they got off the, the you know, the, the Onyx when

(28:34):
they got into the planet and howdesolate it was.
And even the costume work, I mean it, it's, it's a lot of eye
candy, but it's a lot of fun to watch and experience.
And this episode is great so I'mgiving it a nine.
I really enjoyed this episode. My 9 womp rats.
My 9 womp rats. Sadly they were going to stand

(28:55):
up to SM33 when they're in the supervisors tower, but as soon
as you started growing all of them decided to bolt, never to
be seen again. Understandable.
I I I don't blame them totally. Totally, William, you want to go
next? Sure.
Yeah, I, you know, like you, I really, I really enjoyed this
episode, right. It's not a flawless episode, but

(29:17):
it's just a fun episode. And I, I think I was
particularly taken by the concept of a planet that is
identical to their home planet, but not their home planet.
I thought that was really cool, really fascinating.
And I am so eager to learn more.We learn a bit more in the next
episode, but there's still, I think a lot of secrets that have

(29:38):
yet to be revealed. So yeah, I am, I really enjoyed
it. I think I overall, I give it 8
womp rats out of 10. Just a really fun, fun episode.
These 8 womp rats, they're actually going to somebody, you
know, they have those giant turbolasers on top of the
school, which I, I wonder if those are also on the, the

(30:00):
school at, on at attenton as well.
But either way, those those the the turbolasers have to be
operated by something and they're operated by womp rats.
Steven, you're up. I actually I feel like I'm
trying to decide how true to my original thinking score I want

(30:21):
to be. I think.
I want to get this episode of seven I I did really enjoy the
episode. I think the Neil and I'm
blanking on her name now Hana relationship definitely carries
it. I found myself mostly perplexed
by the troics, particularly the leader, and like they ended up

(30:42):
feeling like a lot of bluster with not a lot of lot behind it.
And the farther from the episodeI get, the more I feel like kind
of huh. Perhaps cuz we so much of the
the climax of the episode kind of gets lost when, you know, jaw

(31:02):
just walks out with all the aopis and play up not no battle
at all. They didn't even show up.
It's just done. So the meat of the episode just
leaves me with that kind of feeling of like slightly
unsatisfied, like I, I ate something and it was fine.
I enjoyed it, but I thought it would taste better and leave me
more filled. So it's one of those cases where

(31:24):
like the majority of the episodeis kind of like maybe not the
majority, like half the episode is like A5 and half the episode
is like a nine. And so I'm kind of landing, I
think somewhere in the middle ofA7.
But my, my 7 womp rats, they arethe cause of, of the Hatan and
Troik war. It started, you know, it started
with just stealing some womp rats back and forth, you know,
some pets and it just, you know,it started escalating and it, it

(31:47):
just went downhill from there unfortunately.
I love it. We, I mean we were wondering
what happened with the the the Troik's and the Hatan and
clearly the womp rats. Are those darn womp rats always
causing issues? Yeah, what are you gonna?

(32:09):
Do well, you're gonna continue on reviewing our next episode,
which as Tom said at the top is called.
You have a lot to learn about pirates.
These episode titles are very long, but this one I say, I'd
say is even I think I liked it even more.
So the, I guess the one critiqueI have about it is the SM33

(32:34):
threat is resolved very quickly right at the top, very right at
the top of the episode. He's already restrained and
they're like, let's just turn itback on.
We're a little nervous, but let's just turn it back on
anyway. You know, KB had tried to do
some stuff to, to minimize his his threat, but it kind of all

(32:55):
happened off screen and he was never an issue again.
He's totally fine. He's back on their side, which
was a little disappointing I think.
I I'll say I do generally agree,but I actually really liked that
they've got them all roped up and as soon as you know Fern
tells him to like get up and go,Pilot immediately breaks out of

(33:16):
the ropes and continues onwards.I know, and but again, I get
back to, but wouldn't that be something a kid would write?
Because really a kid wouldn't sit here and think, well,
something stronger would keep a Droid down.
Once you bring him out of his, his, you know, let's say coma or
turn it back on again, he would basically break the rope.
That that that's anyway. Maybe I think where I come out

(33:41):
on that, Tom? Yeah, I just, I don't know, I'm,
I'm just enjoying the show. I, I, I found the beginning of
this episode when it came to Wendell and Numa trying to
figure out how to get word to their kids.
OK, That to me was a little bit OK, You're trying to hide this
thing that you're plugging into a computer and standing right

(34:04):
next to you is a security Droid who picks up something wrong
right away and comes walking over.
And you do get the information you want really quick.
I really enjoyed that sequence, particularly the like, again,
because this is, I don't know that I quite want to call this a

(34:25):
kid show, but it is it skews a little bit younger based just
on, you know, who our hero characters are.
And the scene where the droid's like, I want to see what's
behind your back. And he lifts like the right
hand. It's like, show me your other
hand. And he lifts the other hand.
I appreciate both that the A, they tried that gambit and then
B, it's immediately followed up with like, yeah, of course it
doesn't work. Why would this?
Work well, I did roll my eyes atit, but I agree with you,

(34:47):
Steven. I agree but but what made it
work was the Droid sat there andpleaded.
Please show me both your hands. Right here.
So I'm going to jump ahead because we're going to talk
about this now. William, I'm sorry in advance.
This show is skewed younger, so this is the only show, and I'm

(35:09):
thinking particularly ahead to the elders and how the kids are
all dressed up as their way of getting in.
If this is the show where, if you wanted to do, I don't know,
a gag where you hide A child inside a Jedi's robes to walk
out through a hangar bag, this is the only place that works.
It is thoroughly ridiculous. Clearly would never work, but

(35:32):
I'll It works, but only because it's in this type of setting.
And yes, that is a slide againstKenobi.
Hey now, no I. OK, but it's it's deserved.
You're not yet. Yeah, here I felt like it
worked. It it comes across charming
instead of, you know, silly. And again, I get, I get back to

(35:53):
it's like, it's how it's writtenand to me how that story is
being told and from whose point of view.
That's why it it, that's why I'menjoying this, because I guess
I'm looking at it from this different point of view of the
storytelling that it's one of these kids telling this story.
Because for some of the things that you've mentioned, only a

(36:13):
kid could probably come up with something crazy like that, like
the hand view. I don't.
Know. About that, well, I, I agree,
but I I totally agree. But but that's kind of how I'm
looking at the way the story waswritten.
OK, that's that's yeah, yeah, yeah.
And Tom, you're, you have a veryinteresting and compelling
theory that I I think is could. Be probably wrong, but who

(36:33):
knows. I'm, I'm, I'm pretty sure it's
wrong because this is, this is set within a time frame, Yeah,
and, and we know it's there, butit's just, I guess This is why
I'm enjoying the show is becauseI'm taking that point of view
from the script writing. And, well, it just shows how
well written the show is that you can do that.
You know, it's. Yeah, no.

(36:53):
And enjoy it from that point of view.
Right, but let's I think we we we talked briefly about about
Wendell and Numa and Under Secretary Farah.
But I I think it's worth diving in a little more there.
So it's it is nice to get a a a look at what's happening back on
home back at home. The, the parents are still,
they're not just I I appreciate they're not just sitting around

(37:14):
right? They can't, they clearly can't
leave the planet. They can't get communication
out. The Under Secretary Jafara is
trying to go through the official channels and get the
supervisor to help, but he's notdoing anything.
And so Numa, basically Neil's mom basically pressures Wendell

(37:35):
to steal the the security codes for the barrier from at his
workstation. It it's interesting that he can
get them directly from his own computer that he has the access,
but who who knows? I'm not going to get too into
the details. I think you're right, Tom.
It's like it's a kids show, right?
They're they're they're going, you know, skimming over the

(37:58):
details. But as you said, he's caught and
at least Under Secretary Farah is the one in charge.
It's she's able to bail them outeven when the the the the
security droids catch him. The one most notable thing here
is, and you know, Steven, I'm I'm curious to your thoughts on

(38:18):
this too, in particular since you both you work in tech like
me. A lot of times Star Wars tech
definitely looks like it's straight out of the 70s.
And but like, I think typically when we see people, droids,
whatever, interfacing with the computer, it's via the scomp
link that like metal hard, you know, wire basically that plugs
into the into the the computer. In this case it kind of looks

(38:42):
like a handmade, you know, very like jumble of wires.
And a hard drive. Yeah, it almost, I don't know.
It almost looked like not Star Warsy enough.
Almost. I don't know.
How did you feel about the aboutthe, the tech they use?
It's like too many exposed wires.
I don't know. It it is interesting because I

(39:04):
felt a little bit mixed on it. It has the look of like an old
school like printer port, almostlike you got, you know, like the
10 wires all cemented together. It didn't.
I'll say it didn't bother me oneway or the other.

(39:24):
It's it stuck out to me. It didn't bother me, but it
stuck out to me. Yeah, that's fair.
It, it stuck out a little bit tome as well.
It is, yeah. You know, it's, it's one of
those weird things where I remember thinking about it, it
didn't really bother me, but it,the fact that it stuck out to
you and me is fascinating. I think for me it didn't bother

(39:45):
me because also I think the timeframe of this planet, let's say
if it's theoretic, that's true. The Old Republic, much older and
it's still because and also if you take a look at the data port
that SM 33 used in in the Captain's Lair.
It still had that kind of port that came out of the wrist, but
it also like when R2's comes out, this one kind of came out

(40:08):
of something different to where it came out of his wrist, not
fully out of his arm. So look at the time frame of
when these things were were created.
So this could still be on that planet because it's been hidden
still. They could consider they're
still part of the Old Republic and nothing really is going to
advance because it's still there.

(40:29):
There's nothing around them to advance because they've been
shut off. So I had no problem with this.
That's fair. That's fair.
Yeah. Well, so as we mentioned at the
top of the we started talking about this episode, SM 33.
He's very quickly turned on, andat this point he is willing to
spill the beans on what actuallyhappened.
And so finally we actually get an explanation, I think a fairly

(40:53):
comprehensive explanation, at least on the pirate side of
things, for how they discovered Adaton and what happened to the
Onyx sender. I don't mean we may not know the
entire story, but we get a lot of it.
And it's nice that they're doingthat in the 5th episode rather
than waiting on all the secrets until the very end of the the
season. So I guess just just sorry, go

(41:15):
Steven. Alright, go ahead.
I'll actually I'll. I'll wait till you explain it
before I. Oh, if you go, you're also
welcome to explain it too if youwant.
You know what? Go for it, William I.
You will remember it better thanI will.
So per SM 33, the Onyx sender was captained by Tak Renaud.
He's one of the most fearsome pirates in roaming the Galaxy,

(41:37):
plundering whole star systems. And eventually he discovered the
location of at Aten, right? He was, he was searching for
the, the, the, the planet of eternal treasure.
And he, as we saw in the last episode, he finds it on it.
He locates at Akron, gets to thesupervisor's tower, discovers
the coordinates for Adaton, and scratches out the the

(42:02):
coordinates so no one else can find but him.
Unfortunately his greedy first mate staged a mutiny on their
way to Adaton and his concubine stabbed him in the back with his
own dagger and as a result the Onyx sender crashed into Adaton

(42:24):
cause the captain had locked thecontrols.
And that's why the Onyx sender ended up on Adaton cause the but
everyone died is 'cause they they crashed into the planet and
it's not explicitly stated that the captain died.
So I suspect he's probably aliveand maybe someone that we know

(42:44):
because we never see his face, but.
That cause John Odd pulls a a knife out of a body in a
captain's court, doesn't he? That's true, he does.
So maybe that was the captain, but it's just weird to me.
So later we do see that hollow log from the captain and we
never see his face. Fair.

(43:06):
Which makes me wonder, like is he someone we've seen before?
Although it doesn't make sense, all the parents don't make
sense. I doubt it would be jawed,
although maybe, but probably notthe supervisor.
We've never seen the supervisor either, so it'd be weird to make
the captain the supervisor. I don't know you.
You make a good point though. But it's it's unclear right?

(43:26):
Is that the I mean we know that the captain was stabbed with his
own dagger. Didn't say that he died.
The Onyx Cinder crashes and it sounds like everyone else died.
But at least now we know how theOnyx Cinder got on at AT and and
why everyone died and how they located the planet.
So I really appreciated getting all of that information so

(43:49):
early. Yeah, I I appreciated 2 sets of
reactions in this entire kind ofreveal. 1 is Jods reveal to you
know this is like this is the Onyx Cinder, the legendary
captain, you know, etcetera etcetera and how uninterested
the kids are. Which?

(44:10):
Admittedly is a little unusual for them in particular, like
Whim, who seems to really enjoy these types of stories, but so
be it. And I appreciated the follow on
of like and what's a concubine? I'm like, Nope, never mind,
we're done, on to the next scene.
It's great. Very well.
It's so funny. Yeah.

(44:31):
And the so they how do they findout at and well, there is a
location the, the pirates had a secret lair beneath the Skull
Ridge mountain and the terrifying place with, you know,
pits of mud hiding the mangled corpses of the captain's foes
and all that good stuff. And so, of course, they set,

(44:55):
they set course for the planet. And well, before we talk about
the planet, let's briefly, we actually get a nice little
moment with between Jod and Whimwhere Wim kind of admits that
he's scared and he misses his dad and his mom and he, he, he
even admits that the adventure has been more than he dreamed

(45:17):
about and, and maybe a little overwhelming.
And that's nice, right, 'cause we see him.
He always wanted that adventure. And now he realizes, oh, maybe
it's not as easy as I thought. Yeah.
Character development. Yes, and his we get another
reference to his mom who we knowis not around anymore.
It sounds like maybe she passed away, but it's unclear why or

(45:41):
what happened. Maybe it's not relevant to the
story, but he definitely misses his mom as well.
And you know, JOD, he starts to leave, but the one keeps opening
up and he feels so bad that he he kind of can't really leave.
Tries to brush off the kid at 1st and he's like great I have
to sit and hear this. And then it gives just the most

(46:03):
perfect relationship and, you know, self.
It's not really relationship advice.
What would you call it? Like personal advice?
Forget your just gives gives them some life advice.
Life advice. Just, you know, bury it deep,
don't think about it. All problem solved, you know?
Yeah, right. It's all done, move along.
Forget all your fears, your anxieties, your other
attachments. And then what's interesting is

(46:26):
he starts using Jedi terminology.
He says your focus determines your reality and then starts
using the force to give Wim backhis data pad.
And I appreciate that Wim calls him on it again, right?
And says, hey, how are you usingthe force?
But of course John ignores him. At this point, I think it's
indisputable. He definitely can use the force.

(46:48):
Yeah, I was about to say the exact same thing.
But you know, there's not a lot of Jedi in this time period.
And I get like, they can't have Jedi during this time period
because Luke's, you know, only just rebuilding the Jedi
Academy. There's really like, yeah,
there's a handful of former Jediout there, like Ahsoka.
And, you know, we've got Luke and we've got Grogu, who can use

(47:08):
the Force. And of course, there's the
others, too. But I feel like I would be
really interested. I think it'd be fascinating if
they made Jod a former Inquisitor.
Oh, interesting. That would be interesting.

(47:29):
It would be. I'm a little skeptical though.
Like not a Jedi, but can you usethe force?
But you're right, maybe maybe they go some other way.
Like wow, what haven't we seen before?
But we haven't seen a former Inquisitor.
OK, but but. How do you know how old JOD is?
That's a good question. Could you have been like a

(47:51):
youngling in the temple when it collapsed and this is just?
Yeah, I mean, this is what, 35 ish 37 years after, sorry,
30202720202025252527 years afterorder 66.
So I think he would have been too old.

(48:13):
I think he would have been like a teenager at least, maybe
older. Well, I mean, that just works
the other direction though, right?
He could have very much learned how to be a Jedi early on.
And then, Yeah, yeah, for sure. Well, he'd.
He'd be like king injuries. I mean that that would be the
the parallel to it. Yeah, I think either he's a Jedi

(48:34):
that went into hiding or he is, I mean, he's a force.
He's of some sort. My my out there theory is he's a
former Inquisitor and that's whyhe kind of has gone into a life
of crime. But maybe he's feeling bad and,
you know, starting to change hisways that.
That would be interesting if it was.
Probably not, I admit, but that might be cool.
Interesting. Interesting theory.

(48:56):
So they the Onyx Cinder arrives, the terrifying Skull Ridge
Mountain, and I don't know aboutyou, but this was not that
terrifying at all. Again, we get another twist on
the planet and it turns out it'sactually a luxurious spa and.

(49:16):
Never thought I'd see a result like this in Star Wars, I'll
tell you that now. Well, and it's I, I think the
thing that really makes it is SN33's comments the entire time
about. How they ruined it and it is
perfect. It's actually one of my favorite
things about this episode is howdistraught he is as at the
luxury that is around him. It also I really maybe this is

(49:39):
just not graphic but morbid, butlike I I really laughed it him
talking about the mud, the mud baths or the mud pits where all
these people were murdered and you just have a bunch of people
just no enjoying their time. Frolicking around in the mud.
It's so good. The I that's one of the things I
really enjoy about this show so far.

(50:00):
It's like they take a concept and they just like twisted or
oh, it's a it's it's you're on that.
No, no, wait, it's a it's a planet that looks like identical
diet at it, but it has has been destroyed or we're going to a
pirate lair. Oh, wait, no, it's actually a
luxurious spa now because it's been converted.
It's just it's it's so good. It is so good.

(50:22):
And I just love how it has all these terrifying names.
I mean, at one point SN 33 goes through a mites called and
referred to as Skull Ridge mountain, the demons rest,
battle world and Lanoopa. The spa so good.
I love it. I love it.

(50:44):
Yeah. And, and, you know, on as
opposed to last week where all adult, all children are treated
as adults here on Lenoopa, children are not allowed at all
'cause, you know, it's adults only spa.
And so the, the kids pretend to be the most wise elders from the
Bratrix system and they dress upand they have a grand entrance
by riding down the pipe on the ship.

(51:04):
But it's, it's, it's, it's pretty, it's pretty hilarious.
And I love like hearing Jod makeup a language on the fly so he
can translate the kids and. The the subtitles are
particularly great 'cause it just says like gibberish.
And you can tell that he's making up gibberish just as

(51:25):
you're watching the episode. It's just so good.
It is so good. I love it.
You know, they're, they're greeted on the landing pad by
the hotelier and you know, she'sskeptical, but willing to take a
bribe. And you know this, she after the
tour, she she looks at the computer system and with a few

(51:46):
Republic old public credits, decides that yes, he is
Professor Umiyam Goorlocks of Scipio, because why wouldn't he
be? And Jod decides to upgrade the
room to the best one available and you know, he he has to give
up his weapons, but he uses the force and grabs his knife back
again. Some more force usage there.

(52:08):
And that's when an old friend ofJod's walks up Dash Zenton and
or sorry, she she remembers Jod as Dash Zenton, but she
introduces herself as Pocket, who I thought was a weird name
at first Pocket, But is it? I think pretty sure it's Pirates
of the Caribbean, right, Tom? That's like, hello Pocket.

(52:30):
Isn't that Pirates the Caribbean?
Oh yes, it is. It's the movie.
No, no, no, it's not pocket. It's not pocket.
It's hello Poppet. Poppet Poppet OK, it's close
enough. I I wonder if it was maybe it
was an intentional reference, but it just sounded very it also
piratey I. Will say it's one of those cases
where it's spelled super weirdlyin the the subtitles, so I

(52:50):
wonder if there's something there to it as well.
Yeah, it's P OK, KIT. And so when you read the and you
just are watching the episode and you hear that oh, her name's
pocket. It's like like Polly, I don't
know, like what, like I don't get this, but I never.
Thought of it that way. But but.
Yeah, it translated to Puppet tome.
Yeah, but you know, they she's, she's visiting the spot now for

(53:12):
some R&R, but has some history. Jod had under an an alias,
stolen her bounty, left her for dead, drowning in a pit of
leeches and she's not too thrilled.
And I really appreciate how she's she's acting all nice and
oh, it's so good to see you and etcetera, etcetera, etcetera.
But secretly definitely not the case.

(53:35):
They both know. Oh, she's turning us in as soon
as I walk away from this. It it's also I love the change
in Jod's mentality from this point forward as well.
He goes from I'm going to enjoy this luxury planet, you know,
I'm going to help the kids to heis fully focused now on, you
know, finding his treasure, saving his skin and get out.

(53:58):
Yeah. Not letting anything get in the
way of it, shall we say? Right.
Yeah. I mean, I don't know why the
receptionist didn't kick Jot outimmediately at that point, but
hey, you know, he just. Probably he got.
He did. He got a lot of credits on
there. He did.
He did. But you know, for someone who's
trying to keep up high, you know, have high security due to
the Banking Clan summit, she's not doing too good of a job.

(54:20):
Yeah, so this at this point, theepisode kind of translate
transitions into almost like Indiana Jones a little bit,
which which was was fun, right. We we first see them, you know,
they they, they, they get a tourof the the place and and you get

(54:40):
the, you know, the, I think they're Glen eyes, right?
The the, the flower necklaces like you get in Hawaii, they get
free drinks, they get tours of the place, the buffets, the
sensory gymnasiums, the Hot Springs and go and visit their
suite where the kids are bouncing on the the bed and

(55:06):
doing pillow fights, which I mean, they're kids.
So I guess it checks out, you know, but.
I just, I love how how John sitsthere and just says, are you
listening? And they're like.
No, I mean, it was kind of weirdbecause I feel like they would
be interested in the in the in the treasure more, but I mean,

(55:26):
yeah, it is a luxury spa, so I could see why they're excited to
to be there They. Are kids, I mean, that's they
are kids, yeah. Oh, I I almost forgot to
mention, sorry. Before we get into the Indiana
Jones piece, I started to get onthe At one point we see a Hut
relaxing in a mud bath and this server brings him some food and

(55:49):
the Hut picks up the server instead and eats him, which is
just great. I think he ate the server, at
least I'm pretty sure, but the server was.
There. He does.
The server says not again, whichmakes me think maybe avoided it
the last minute, but you know isunhappy to have this happening
again. Me just getting like munched on
not not fully eaten or something.
I'm not sure but the server is actually played by voiced by

(56:12):
Chris Ford, well the Co creator of the show.
So pretty fun. That's fun.
Yeah, so anyway, they John's like back at the room, John's
like we got to find this. We Captain Brutus is going to be
on his way and the pirates are going to be on his way.
So they decide they need to lookfor the, the special symbol that

(56:36):
marks the, the entrance to the, the pirates lair.
So they they go off and search. And this is where, as I
mentioned, it starts to get a little more Indiana Jones,
right, because there's, there's two storylines.
On the one hand, we got John, Neil and KB and they're looking
for clues. And all of a sudden the security
catches them and then chase ensues and you know, KB squirt,

(57:03):
you know, repressurizes one of the pipes and splatters the
guards with mud. But on the other side, we've got
Wim Fern and SM 33 and they juststart searching the mud baths
and they, they follow it down into the, the grottos and they
find the symbol. And you know, again, having just
played, I just finished Indiana Jones in the great circle and

(57:24):
there's a phenomenal game. I absolutely loved it.
It, it felt straight out of Indiana Jones.
So I started to find the symbolsand then going in down and, and
finding these traps. It was it was really cool.
Also, even the the giant creature who we think you think
is going to kill you, the Catholopsin is actually just a
friend who wants to hear about their adventures.

(57:46):
Kind of fun. It's.
Such a random Cthulhu esque monster to find and also to have
it be super nice. I don't know what it was, it
cracked me. Up again, turning everything on
its head, it. Was a good, it was a good twist
because you know what? He liked the story.
Yeah. And he really.
And he just wants to talk about it most.

(58:08):
Yeah. And he want, he wanted to hear
more when it was over. I mean, they're just like, it
was almost like, hey, when you guys are done, come back and
tell me the rest of it so I knowwhat happened at the end.
Yeah, so I'll, I'll, I'll go with you, Tom first.
What did you think of the traps once they got into the, you
know, padded, they broke the theentrance to the to the tunnels

(58:30):
below the below the baths with the symbol and.
As you mentioned, that literallywas, and it did feel like right
out of Indiana Jones when it came to the traps because it
seemed like once they set the traps, then you had the actual
pirate gang coming behind them. Knowing that these traps, except
for the one that you feel very bad for the security guy who sat

(58:53):
here and he came upon the trap. You felt so sorry for him.
He came upon the trap, knew there was something wrong, threw
something in the trap. Watch it levitate and look up
and see basically a spiked skelling skeleton up there.
Yikes. And then he turn.
Yeah. And then he turns around and
what happens? There's pirates behind him.

(59:15):
And sadly he gets shot and. Falls right into it, in that
spot and falls right into it. And you even hear the sound
effect. Oh yeah, yeah, I know.
Luck. Luckily we didn't have to see
it, but. Yeah, there was that trap.
There was the decapitation trap as well, which?
The kids, the. Kids I greatly appreciate the
fact that the kids are just too short to actually be threatened
by the decapitation, but it's. Pretty great.

(59:36):
I mean, in the Galaxy where there are so many beings of
various sizes, I feel like it's not the most effective to assume
everyone's going to be a certainheight.
But hey, it's it makes for a great joke.
Oh, it worked. And it works 100%.
You know, you mentioned the prize even even Brutus arriving
right on the planet and sorry, not Brutus.

(59:57):
Brutus and himself didn't come, but he Gunter came and leading a
bunch of no name pirates. And you know, they they arrive
on Lanupa and the security says, you know, all are welcome if
they keep the peace and boom, they just blow them up.
There's some the the comedic timing on a lot of these
episodes are just really well done.

(01:00:17):
And then you get to. The, the biggest puzzle, there's
like 3 big traps really that we we see in the episode.
The third one is this pit of acid and there's an inscription
on the ceiling that says you have to make the greatest
sacrifice. And of course, like probably us,
they assume that's sacrificing your life, but not for a pirate,

(01:00:38):
no, that's losing your credits. And so they threw a Republic
credit into the pool of acid andvoila, it drains, which is
great, but it's even better whenthey're inside the secret lair
and the pirates arrive outside and John's like, oh, hey, the
you could just fill up that pit again, right?

(01:00:58):
And poor pirates. I think that's the end of Gunter
and Pocket and the other no namepirates.
And that's clearly like Brutus came with them because none
survived. It's definitely one of those
moments where you are now wondering, like we talked
previously, Oh yeah, it's a kidsshow sometimes maybe not.

(01:01:20):
You know it. Kind of walks that line of,
yeah, light hearted and fun and kind of whimsical and very 80s,
but even the 80s kids movies, right, Had some darkness to them
as well. Yeah.
So we get into the lair and it is a proper pirate lair.

(01:01:42):
Steven, what did you think? Seeing Captain Renaud's secret
lair filled with treasure, I mean.
This it delivers on all the things you want out of a
pirate's lair. Treasure everywhere, extra traps
that, you know, maybe are going to send certain children to
their death soon, you know, who can say?

(01:02:03):
But just phenomenal gold everywhere.
And I don't know. Yeah, I liked it.
Yeah. Yeah, it it felt, I mean, I
looked at it going, God, it looked like Aladdin.
It looked like Aladdin's, you know, in the in the pit of not
the Pit of Despair, that's the wrong movie.

(01:02:24):
But in yeah, you know what I'm talking about.
It looked like Aladdin's treasure.
Oh, yeah, Aladdin, Indiana Jones.
It is your classic pyro lair. Yeah, I didn't have a chance,
but I wanted to like Steven. I, I almost wanted to like
freeze frame. I didn't get a chance, but I
almost wanted to freeze frame and just like look at all of the

(01:02:45):
treasures in the planet 'cause it, there's some in in the room
'cause it I, I think was that maybe I know a Starlight beacon.
It looked like Starlight Beacon, potentially like a model and oh.
That one? Really.
Yeah, I don't know. There's there's all sorts of
cool stuff in. Easter eggs.
Yeah, Yeah. The one obviously I noticed was

(01:03:05):
the lightsaber, which I can obviously takes place later but
really stands out like just I none of those cases where I I
want to know the history behind how how is it that the pirate
captain found his way or found ownership of a lightsaber.
Yeah, I don't know, Like who. Yeah.
Whose lightsaber is it? How did he, how did he get it?

(01:03:30):
How did it wind up in the collection?
So many questions for for us, but it's, it's a pretty cool,
it's a pretty cool room. And Neil thankfully notices that
on the table there's a bunch of rotten food, cause nobody's been
there for quite some time exceptfor some roast meat that looks

(01:03:51):
fresh right off the right off the spit.
And of course, it's the, it's itthat it even, you flip it up
like, you know, like a book on abookshelf.
It opens up the access to the pirate's log, but not before you
almost fall down a pit when you step sit on the chair.
Thankfully. Yeah, it's, it's great.

(01:04:13):
It does make me laugh because itmeans anytime the the captain
returned to his lair, the first thing he has to do is order a
feast for himself, or else that roast that's gonna look real
suspicious just sitting in the middle of the room.
Good point. That's a very good point.
It's so true. But you know, we'll, we'll give

(01:04:34):
it to them. We'll give it to them.
And I did enjoy too that Jod wascarrying Neil, lifting him up in
order to reach the the meat. And that's the only reason why
Neil didn't fall right to the floor into the the pit, although
he does later. We'll come back to that.
You know, we, we, we see the recording and we learn that, you

(01:04:58):
know, this is what was mentionedearlier in the episode.
Adaton and the other jewels of the Republic are actually mints
that printed Republic credits. And that's why the legend called
the maternal treasure, because you can print as much money as
you want. And that's the secret of Adaton.
And of course, that only makes Jod want to want the treasure

(01:05:20):
even more. And you can.
I'd say Julia did a really good job of acting in this point
'cause you could see the internal conflict in him as he
realizes, yeah, oh, do I betray the kids or do I help them, I
mean. It's not a surprise cause Julia
is a phenomenal actor, but he ispunching above his weight here.
Like I I think especially actingagainst the kids who all do a

(01:05:42):
great job as well, but like he does bring such gravitas to the
role. It's phenomenal.
Absolutely 'cause you, you really, when you're watching his
episodes, have no idea which wayhe's going to turn basically per
scene. I mean, look at he's got to
basically be an ally for the kids.
Then he comes up against a former bounty hunter under a

(01:06:04):
different name and he has to basically play that one, that
aspect. Now he's up against basically
the the hotel attendant who's trying to, you know, fish him
out as find out if he's real or not as she's being bribed.
I mean, that's a lot of acting chops right there in this, in
just this one episode alone. Yeah.

(01:06:27):
Yeah, yeah, and you know, he we kind of like, I guess 1 critique
I have with the episodes if the ending felt a little too similar
to last week, whereas SM 33 was the big villain last time.
Now it's Jod. He he betrays them.
He he grabs Fern or, you know, Fern, Fern tries to attack him
and you know, he quickly dodges it and put a knife to her throat

(01:06:50):
and he forces her to make him the captain, right?
He challenges her to a a, a, a aduel per the pirate code.
And he doesn't want to kill her,but he forces her to yield.
She puts up a good fight, but she loses and I.
Really. I really thought Fern might have

(01:07:10):
been or was going to force him to kill her and then he wouldn't
and that would end the challenge.
I've been very dark. Well, I mean she.
I I was expecting him to not do it.
Oh I see. Yeah, like call his blush.
No, he he was willing. I mean, we think so.
Most likely, yeah. Most I had knife to throw it and

(01:07:34):
was it was pretty close. I don't know that there's a lot
of. And we get this again with the
the humorous moments, this heroic moment or whim, you know,
we saw that lightsaber earlier. And sure enough, he grabs the
lightsaber and he lifts the blade and ignites it and almost
has himself in the foot and the blade goes just bouncing away.
It's so good. I I loved the the I spent

(01:07:57):
multiple times in the IT was in the previous episode.
And in this episode where you get like the the heroic shot in
the previous episode, there's a shot with the four kids kind of
all spaced evenly across, you know, the strewn battlefield
before running off. Yeah.
This is the shot that goes in the trailer.
This was another perfect example.
You know, he's not only is he going through this kind of
heroic motion with the lightsaber, but he, the way he's

(01:08:19):
framed even makes it so clear that this is this is the big
moment. Yeah, he's gonna ignite his
lightsaber. He's gonna save his friends.
Exactly. Yeah, Nope, he fails and he runs
off and has to hide and yeah, Fern has to give in and Jod is

(01:08:41):
now the captain. He orders SM 33 take the kids
prisoner because they're, you know, have mutinous a tent and
before they can Wim grabs the booby trap chair and all the
kids fall into the pit. I just like we've they've just
gone through a, a, a maze of death traps.

(01:09:02):
I don't know what Wim was expecting here.
Hopefully soon, I don't know, hewasn't either, but I think he
realized that's the only option.I guess if they're, I mean,
well, death versus capture. So probably going with that.
Some through even better. But yeah, exactly.
Yeah. Yeah, it.
I mean, not that Wim has made great decisions throughout this

(01:09:22):
show, like generally I'd say he probably hasn't, but.
He even admitted he had admittedin the last episode that he
probably wouldn't have been ableto get him out of the situations
that Fern was able to get them out of.
And this just goes to prove thathopefully he made the right
decision in this case because hemade it and it should hopefully
turn out positive. Or the kids are all dead and now

(01:09:45):
this is just going to follow John going and getting all his
pressure, you know? I mean, John does the lightsaber
now, you know, he grabs the lightsaber with the Force and
ignites it as the camera cuts toblack.
So maybe Jaw is the hero now. Make it sound bad, but remember
the show is called Skeleton Crow.
They're all dead. That's why they're skeletons.

(01:10:05):
There you go, figured it out. I'm sorry.
I'm sorry. I do love the show.
I'm hoping that's not going to be the case.
Yeah, well, I mean, this is. Yeah, that's that's pretty much
it. That's the end of the episode.
We'll have to wait until next week to find out what happens to
the kids. Are they alive?

(01:10:26):
Jod has a lightsaber now. Does he use it?
Is he? Is he a Jedi?
Is he a former Inquisitor? I don't know.
All I know is that this show is just so much fun.
I really love this show. It I do it's it's like a reverse
and or in so many ways like. Yeah.
It has, it holds that same quality bar.

(01:10:46):
It uses, you know, Star Wars to tell a story.
That is it really, I mean, it's specific to Star Wars in the way
that Android is, but it's not based off, you know, your
understanding of other properties I guess is the key.
And it where Android was this like very kind of serious kind
of spy drama. This is just, I mean, we just

(01:11:07):
talked about, you know, people being melted at acid and things
like that. But like otherwise, it's just
good clean fun, you know? Indeed, and in fact, Steven,
what would you rate this episode?
You would make me go first, William I where the last episode
left me feeling like I I, you know, empty calories, like it

(01:11:31):
was missing something. This one, I think delivered just
on all parts. Everything about the planet was,
I want to say Lupo, and that's not right.
Lapuna. Am I remembering that correctly
now? Whatever it is, that's it.
The planet was fantastic, very worthy of a pirate lair.

(01:11:52):
I, I loved the, the search for the treasure, the treasure
itself and the culmination. Like, I mean, again, Jude Law is
a phenomenal actor and this really, really like he just, he
was nailing it throughout. So very excited to see where it
goes from there. I, I, I think I'm gonna give
this a nine out of 10. Like I think this is probably

(01:12:13):
been my favorite episode, one ofmy favorite episodes of the show
thus far. Definitely up there.
So 9 out of 10 oh man, I feel like I, I have to go there.
But like I think my 9 womb rats were stuck in the acid pit when
it was refilled. It was an unfortunate accident.
They it turns out it only melts, you know, non living things.

(01:12:34):
So they they just kind of were swimming around fine, but they
were in the pit when 33 refilledit.
Poor womb rats. Yeah, well, no, they're fine.
They were, they were swimming. They didn't melt.
They just, you know, it's like abath for them.
Oh, oh, OK. Yeah.
But it it they had to deal with remnants of the, they had to
deal with remnants of the pirates.

(01:12:57):
Well, yeah, but that's different.
Those are pirates. These are womp rats.
Womp rats. Oh, good points.
You can't make womp rats. So they just.
Yeah, they took they took a nicebath, you know, and then they
had some new bath toys that showed up.
And I don't know where I'm goingwith this.
Tom, please. Yeah, I think.
I'm Oh my goodness. I'm bailed you out of this.
Thank you not a problem. I'm just going to say I enjoyed

(01:13:18):
the episode I, I'm giving it an 8.5 I, I am just enjoying the
show period. I'm just going to sum it up that
way. I, I really it, it has its
points to where there's really not much to complain about how
how the show's been written, howit's acted, how how it makes you
feel when watching it and reallythis show really makes you want

(01:13:41):
to see what's happening next. I can't wait to see what happens
in the next episode because theyare laying out all the clues.
They're giving you enough but they're laying out more so this.
I just love this episode. I'm giving it an 8.5 and my 8.5.
Womp rats. I feel sorry for the half womp
rat that can't enjoy all the thepools that are around because

(01:14:03):
it's all mud. But that's probably why.
Because he went into the wrong pool to where the other 8 went
into the right pool to where they were fine.
But remember that some of these pools have the dead remnants of
other pirates because of, you know, what it was before he went
to the wrong one that is now offlimits because this planet knows
which one is the wrong one and he went to that one.

(01:14:24):
That's why he's 1/2. And the other ones were enjoying
the other mud pools. And William, Get Me Out of this,
please. I was going to say I'm very
confused. So am I.
Keep me out of this please. You just want rats around have
vacation brain, right They're. Just I know it's just vacation
brain, that's where. I am, yeah.
No, I I agree. Like this was a really fun
episode. I easily one of my favorites

(01:14:46):
we've had so far. You know, a spa is something
kind of like, you know, the casino in the last Jedi on KENTA
bite. Not, not something we would
expect to see in Star Wars per SE, or even like Dryden Voss's
ship in Solo, right? But it works.
It works perfectly. And, you know, and, and it it's

(01:15:08):
really cool. I love the twist that, you know,
used to be a pirate lair and SN 33 is just complaining the
entire time about how it used tobe so, you know, fearsome and
terrible and now they've ruined it.
It was just hilarious. I love the Indiana Jones
inspired traps and it just was great all around.
So yeah, I'll give it 8 1/2 pomprats out of 10.

(01:15:29):
And you know, these 8 1/2 pomp rats, they went to the buffet.
What can I say? They were hungry.
Don't ask where the other half the womp rat went because they
were at the buffet and they werehungry and.
If you say not to ask William. Yeah, I'm not going to say.
Exactly, Yeah. But yeah, I think that about

(01:15:49):
wraps it up for our double episode of Skeleton Crew.
Since we were out for the holidays travelling.
I have to ask you guys before wewe wrap up next week is one O 6.
We are over halfway through the season at this point.

(01:16:09):
Do you guys think they'll make adad out in the next week now
they have the coordinates or arewe in for a little bit more of a
wait? I would suspect we're in for a
bit more of a wait and I think we're going to have to resolve.
Well, I take that back. I think, I think they are going
to make it there. I don't think they'll resolve

(01:16:29):
the conflict with John yet. I do think they will maybe sneak
back aboard the ship and hide and then return that way.
Yeah, I, I get a feeling we're one more episode away because if
you remember during the commercials when they showed
before this, before Skeleton crew aired a message, it appears

(01:16:53):
in the commercial did get out from the parents to the kids.
Because I remember maybe the momsaying something to the extent
of hold on, something like that,be brave or whatever.
So I think there's one more episode before they actually
make it home because that was inthe commercial.

(01:17:13):
That's true, where a message didget out.
So I could see that being in thenext episode, some message from
the family or from the planets gonna get out and then they'll
end up back home. Yeah, I could see that.
Yeah. I, I mean, I, I suspect it'll
either be this episode of the next one where I hope we get a
little bit of time on Adan. I mean, I guess we've already
revealed what the secret of the planet is.

(01:17:36):
In theory, it could be more, there could be more to it.
But yeah, I, I think they'll getto that in probably middle to
end of next week's episode. And, and once they, you know,
figure out how to get on the ship and, and get there, I don't

(01:17:58):
know, I, I hope, I hope you get a little time adventuring on at,
at, at Aten 'cause there's stilla lot of question marks in my
mind around who is the supervisor, What's going on?
Why are, why did they create these planets?
Why are they all the same? Yes, they're the mints, but why
did they, it seems like a lot ofwork to create identical

(01:18:19):
planets, like with the environments and everything
else, at least from what we've seen.
So yeah, I don't know. Well, the, well, First off, we
know 6 planets exist. The other three were not in that
room. So there's technically three
more we have to find. That's true.
And then on top of that, is it possible the reason why, let's
say the six planets are basically mints, is it because

(01:18:43):
maybe if one planet is lost, there's still money being
created out of the other five? And then maybe the other three
planets, because they're still lost, could be the backup to
where if you ever lose one of those, they could shift to one
of the. Other, but you could have
different environments, different layouts like the you
could have them. Let's look in our in the United
States, there's different mints,you know.
Yeah, there are different mints.Like why do they have to have

(01:19:04):
identical planets? Well, we've only seen two.
Well, even even 2 is, is weird, right?
Like even if there's only two identical planets, there's
something. There's got to be a reason I
guess, is all. I'm all I'm saying.
There's got to be a reason for it.
But you see, that's the best thing about the show.
It hasn't given you the answer just yet, and you want to know.

(01:19:26):
Oh. Yeah, I do.
Yep. I'm very interested.
I'm very invested. Got to know what happens.
Yeah. Well, thank you all for
listening. It's been a really fun episode
and we will be back in just a few days next week with our
review of Skeleton Crew episode 6.
