(00:22):
were looking for me and I wasn'tto be found.
So today's topic is going to bea fun one, so you're going to
need to roll up those sleevesand get ready to do some hard
work.
So, ladies, let me ask yousomething.
What would happen if you woreyour crown with confidence when
it came to managing yourfinances?
Now, before you roll your eyesor think I'm about to talk about

(00:44):
cutting coffee runs, I'm not soslow your finances Now, before
you roll your eyes or think I'mabout to talk about cutting
coffee runs, I'm not so slowyour roll.
I'm here to take the B that is,the B for bad out of budgeting.
You see, budgeting it isn'tabout deprivation, which, by the
way, creates a scarcity, slash, poverty mindset.

(01:05):
It's about a declarationdeclaring that you are in
control of your financialkingdom, which is an abundant
mindset Own in your crown queen.
Think of it like this Everyqueen manages her realm wisely,
prioritizing what matters mostwhile building a future that

(01:25):
thrives.
That's what we're going to dotoday, my friends.
So if you're feeling a littleoverdrawn, not just in your bank
account but in your life, thisepisode is here to remind you
that financial freedom isn'tabout perfection.
It is about progress, just likeeverything we're going to
discuss this year as we're goingto learn how to thrive in 25.
Like everything we're going todiscuss this year as we're going

(01:46):
to learn how to thrive in 25.
So we're taking a real, doable, practical approach and
strategies to make the most ofwhat you have, stretching that
dollar until it's, doing yogaand planning for a year ahead
with confidence.
Because, let's be real, whenyou're a single mom, every
dollar has to do double duty, just like you, and that's okay

(02:07):
because you, my sweets, areresourceful, resilient and ready
to reign.
In this episode, we'll breakdown how to make that tax return
work overtime for you, planahead for summer expenses like
camp registrations, and sprinklein some savvy hacks that'll
have you managing your financeslike the royalty you are.
But wait, there is so much more.

(02:28):
We'll also take a deeper diveinto mindset hacks to move from
scarcity or poverty mindset toone of abundance.
Because Thriving in 25 isn'tjust about money, it's about the
heart and faith behind it.
After all, this is yourThriving 25 journey, so get your
royal playbook out.
This is your Thriving 25journey, so get your royal
playbook out.
That is your journal and a pen.
Grab your coffee, adjust thatcrown and let's budget like the

(02:52):
queens.
We are one step at a time.
Tax return treasure let's talkabout that moment when your tax
refund drops into your account.
Oh, it can feel like a minijackpot, right, but here's the
thing this treasure isn't justfor spending, it's for
strategizing.

(03:12):
A queen doesn't squander hergold.
She invests it wisely to secureher kingdom's future.
Let's get to work, making yourrefund work overtime for you.
Number one build your emergencyfund.
First things first, queen, yourkingdom needs a safety net.
Start with a thousand dollaremergency fund.

(03:35):
It's your financial armoragainst life's curveballs car
repairs, surprise doctor'svisits or that fun moment when
your kid's shoes fall apart atschool.
Prize doctor's visits, or thatfun moment when your kid's shoes
fall apart at school.
Once you lock in that thousanddollars, you can build towards
the grand prize, and that is afull three to six months worth
of expenses.
But let's focus on this firstwin, because nothing says boss

(03:58):
move like being ready for theunexpected.
So here's the tea.
Let's say that your tax refundis $2,500.
Well, girl, you're going toslap $1,000 of that bad boy
straight into your savingsaccount and boom, you've just
conquered your first milestone.
Now you can work on savingsmaller amounts, like $50 or

(04:22):
$100 from each paycheck, to growthat fund and reach bigger
goals.
Now compare that to startingfrom scratch without your tax
return.
What would that look like?
Saving $50 a week would takeyou 20 weeks to reach $1,000.
An eternity when life keepsthrowing you curveballs.
You see, using your refund well, it fast tracks your success

(04:46):
and gives you the peace of mindthat you deserve, queen.
So here's a journal prompt.
I hope you got it out.
So listen, what is your first$1,000 emergency fund goal?
Write it down.
How much of your tax return canyou allocate to it?
What small steps you'll take tokeep building it?

(05:07):
Now I want you to roll up thosesleeves a little bit more and
dive a little bit deeper with me.
What expenses can you cut tosave faster?
Is it finally time to cancelthat streaming service you never
watch, could you DYI your manipadis for a while?
Your budget deserves your bestmoves, girl, so make them count.

(05:30):
And here's a quick tip, ladiesyou need to treat your emergency
fund like your crown jewelsnon-negotiable and worth
protecting.
Number two pay down debt.
Nothing screams freedom likeshedding the weight of debt.
Am I right?
Prioritize those high interestdebt first.
Credit cards and pay down loansare the royal budget killers

(05:52):
here.
Paying off your balance in fulleach month is the ultimate glow
up, but if that's not doable, aim to pay at least 30% of your
balance and make those paymentson time every time.
Why?
Because staying on top of itkeeps your credit score looking
sharp and your financial gainstrong.

(06:13):
For example, if your creditcard balance is $1,000, paying
$300 not only keeps your creditscore safe, but also reminds you
that every swipe of that cardis not a swipe at your throne.
The real win Now, that isconsistency.
Every on-time payment is a stepcloser to throwing off those

(06:36):
financial shackles for good.
Number three invest inessentials, queens, let's talk
about essentials, not just theboring basics, but the real life
stuff that hits your budgetevery year.
Use a slice of that tax refundto cover the must-haves you know
are coming, like schoolsupplies because kids don't stop

(07:00):
growing Clothes, birthdaysyours, theirs and everyone in
between and holiday expenseslike Christmas.
And don't forget those sneakydoctor's visits when the kids
come home sniffling like it'stheir job.
Setting aside part of yourrefund for these predictable
costs means no scrambling laterTranslation, no last-minute

(07:23):
stress or credit card swipes forwhat you could have planned
ahead.
You're smoothing out the bumpsin your financial road and
setting yourself up for a yearof wins.
So here's my little sassy tipHandle your essentials now so
you can focus on more fabulousthings later, like that dream

(07:44):
you've been saving for.
Prioritize your royal needs andkeep that budget flexible.
Queen Number four save forhousing stability.
If your current livingsituation feels more like a
reality show than a fairy tale,it's time to make some moves.
Use part of your tax refund tosave for big ticket needs like

(08:06):
security deposits first and lastmonth's rent or application
fees.
Are you couch surfing or livingin your car?
Start researching housingprograms or grants in your area
and set aside funds for thoseapplication costs.
For more information on thedifference between
income-restricted apartments andincome-based housing, and to

(08:27):
find these resources, a linkwill be included in the podcast
description.
Knowing your options is thefirst step in securing your
castle.
So here's my sassy tip.
I'm going to have lots of those.
A queen deserves a castle.
Every dollar saved gets youcloser to stepping into a home
that is fit for royalty.
Keep your eyes on the prize anddon't let the temporary

(08:50):
setbacks dim your shine.
Number five supplement foodexpenses.
So let's face it, feeding yourroyal court can be a challenge
when budgets are tight.
This is where your tax refundcan ride in like a knight in
shining armor.
Use it to stock up on freshproduce, proteins and the kinds
of items food pantries don'talways have.

(09:12):
And don't sleep on thegovernment or non-profit
programs.
They're there to help fill inthe gaps.
So my sassy tip here is thinkof your kitchen as your kingdom.
A little planning now meansyou'll rule mealtime like the
queen you are, without breakingthe bank.
Number six plan for long-termgoals.
So let's talk about thinkingahead, but with priorities in

(09:36):
place.
Before diving into collegefunds or retirement accounts,
your first mission is to fullyfund that emergency stash.
Remember, a queen's castleisn't secure without a strong
foundation.
Once that's handled, long-termplanning can focus on practical
needs that move you closer tostability.
For instance, if you're part ofa program like Habitat for

(09:59):
Humanity or a first-timehomebuyer initiative, use a
portion of your tax return tosave for requirements like down
payments, closing costs orprogram fees.
This not only sets you up forsuccess, but keeps your royal
sights fixed on the big picture.
This not only sets you up forsuccess, but keeps your royal
sights fixed on the big picture.
Moss' essay tip here is yourfuture self will thank you for
these choices, especially whenyou're turning that key to your

(10:20):
own front door.
Every step now is an investmentin your happily ever after
Number seven plan.
Now relax later Summer expenses.
Summer may feel far away, butplanning now can save you from a
financial meltdown.
When the kids are out of schooland looking for some fun, start

(10:40):
by using a part of your taxrefund to lock in those summer
camp spots.
Early registration often meansdiscounts and you'll have peace
of mind knowing your kids have asafe, enriching place to go.
Be sure to check out your localrecreation departments or YMCAs
for summer camp programs.
And when open registrationbegins and don't stop there,

(11:01):
queen Summer comes with a paradeof expenses Snacks for hungry
little humans, sunscreen thatseems to disappear and outings
that can add up fast.
Create a summer fund to handlethese costs without breaking a
sweat.
So my sassy tip here is thatmany camps offer scholarships or
financial aid, but these fundsare limited, so apply early.

(11:24):
Keep a running list of all theexpected summer expenses and add
a little buffer for thatsurprise ice cream stop or play
dates.
Being prepared lets you enjoy asummer as the cool, calm,
collected queen you are, andnumber eight treat yourself
responsibly.
Every queen deserves a littleindulgence.

(11:45):
So set aside a small percentage, say 10%, for something that
brings you joy, whether it's aspecial outing with your kids or
something you've been eyeing.
Just make sure it's withinreason and aligned with your
overall goals.
So here's where you're gonnaget your journal and pen back
out.
I want you to reflect on yourtax returns purpose.

(12:06):
What are three financial goalsyou can use it for this year?
It may not be any of the ones Ijust said, and it may include
some of them.
So write them down and then, next to each one of them, jot
one action step to make ithappen.
And here's a little scriptureinspiration to help you.
Proverbs 21.5 says and itreminds us that the plan of the

(12:32):
diligent leads surely toabundance, but everyone who is
hasty comes only to poverty.
Let's approach our tax refundwith the diligence and a plan,
trusting God to bless the workof our hands.
Hack your kingdom.
Now that we've laid thefoundation for your kingdom with
an emergency fund and more,it's time to level up.

(12:53):
Every great queen knows thatruling isn't just about having
the goal.
That's about knowing how tostretch it, flip it and make it
work smarter for you.
Start off one by tracking everycoin.
Let's face it, money has asneaky way of slipping through
our fingers, doesn't it?
Start by tracking every expensefor a month.

(13:14):
Yes, even that $1.99 app, orthe $3 coffee I don't think the
coffee is $3 anymore.
Anywho, it all adds up.
Awareness is the first step toreining over your finances.
Once you know where it's going, you can decide if your budget
is supporting your goals or justyour impulse buys.

(13:36):
Number two the $5 rule.
Here's a simple hack Every timeyou get a $5 bill, save it,
toss it into a jar or a savingsaccount and watch it grow.
It may feel small, but thoselittle victories add up, and
it's a fun way to build yourstash without overthinking it.
So here are some spending rules, though, that I want you to
apply to this $5 rule, so tomake that $5 rule stash really

(14:00):
work for things that trulymatter or bring your joy.
This is what you're going to do.
You're only going to use it foremergency splurges, like
treating yourself to somethingsmall and meaningful when life
gets tough.
You're only going to use it forspecial moments, say for a fun
day out with the kids, like icecream at the park or tickets to
a community event.
You will only use it forunexpected needs, like to cover

(14:23):
last minute school supplies or asmall gift for a loved one,
without dipping into your mainbudget.
Now, my sassy tip here is toresist the temptation to spend
your stash on impulse buys.
Remember, this is your crownfund.
It's for moments or needs thatmake you feel like the queen
that you are.

(14:44):
Hack number three subscriptionservices, streaming services,
gym memberships or meal kits.
Are you really using them?
Cancel the ones collecting dust.
Then flip those savings intosomething that actually serves
you, like your emergency fund orsummer expenses.
Hack number four bargain like aboss.

(15:05):
Shop secondhand, use couponapps and I'm going to have some
links in the podcast descriptionnotes for those apps and don't
be afraid to negotiate.
Girl, your money is worth theeffort.
From thrift stores to onlinemarketplaces, there are plenty
of ways to snag deals and keepmore cash in your crown while
you're wearing your heels.

(15:27):
Hack number five and you'veheard this probably before the
cash envelope method.
I know it's old school lunch, but it works.
You may be a queen, butremember cash is king.
Assign envelopes for categorieslike groceries, gas and fun
money.
Yes, you need some fun money.
The key here is once the cashis gone, it's gone.

(15:48):
No swiping your card andoverspending.
This method helps you stick toyour budget while keeping
spending in check.
Hack number six say no withstyle sometimes.
Financial freedom sometimesmeans saying no, whether it's
skipping the pricey drive-thrudinner, holding off on a

(16:09):
shopping spree, saying no to thecandy near the counter in the
checkout line.
Remind yourself that every nonow is a yes to your future
goals.
Declining doesn't make you less, it makes you smart.
So my sassy tip here is yourbudget isn't a burden, it's your

(16:29):
throne.
Reign wisely and remember thatevery dollar saved is another
jewel in your crown.
Write in your journal all thefuture yeses you want.
So when it's time to say no,you know that no is a yes to a
next opportunity.
Think beyond the budget.
Being a financial queen isn'tjust about cutting costs.

(16:52):
It's about owning your throneand shifting your mindset from
scarcity to abundance.
Let's train your financialmuscle to think bigger and act
smarter and turn challenges intoopportunities.
Because listen here my darlingruling your finances is about a
strategy, not a struggle.
Ruling your finances is about astrategy, not a struggle.

(17:12):
So, number one practice somegratitude.
Start by focusing on what youalready have.
You see, gratitude.
Gratitude turns the I don'thave enough into look at all
that I have been blessed withEach day.
I want you to jot down threethings in your journal that you
are grateful for, no matter howbig or small.

(17:32):
You see, because gratitude it'slike glitter it sticks and
makes everything shine brighter.
Number two flip the script.
Now let's have some grace here.
Sometimes the story you tellyourself about money wasn't
written by you.
Maybe it came from parents orpeople in your life who grew up

(17:52):
saying, well, we'll never haveenough, or money doesn't grow on
trees.
Does that sound familiar?
It's time to recognize thoseborrowed beliefs and rewrite
them.
It's not too late, my queen.
You see, your financial futureis still your story to tell.
Number three train them in thetruth.

(18:13):
Remember, little eyes arewatching the way you handle
money today is a lesson yourkids will carry into their
tomorrows.
Teach them to see possibilities, not limits.
Show them how to budget, saveand give.
What you teach now they willpreach later.
So train them in the truth andset them up to win.

(18:36):
Number four shift I can't to.
How can I Stop telling yourselfwhat you can't afford and start
asking how can I make it happen?
You see, this reframe invitescreativity and solutions.
Can't buy new clothes, host aclothing swap, need extra cash.
Look into side hustles.

(18:57):
You can do after bedtime.
You see, back in the day when Iwas a single mom, I did digital
marketing for friends who weresmall business owners.
Because queens don't quit, theystrategize.
Number five invest in learning.
Knowledge is power and everyqueen needs her arsenal.
Dive into personal financebooks.

(19:18):
Binge on a budgeting podcast, take a free online course or
subscribe to daily emails fromapps like Money Wise or the
Penny Hoarder.
The more you know, the strongeryour money game will be.
Learning is your golden ticketto leveling up.
And if you live in the TampaBay area, stay tuned to the end
of the podcast, as I have anopportunity for continued

(19:41):
learning for you.
Number six surround yourselfwith abundance minded people.
You see, your vibe attractsyour tribe.
Hang out with people whoinspire you to think bigger and
hustle smarter, whether it'sjoining a mom's group, a
faith-based circle or abudgeting community.
Connect with folks who willhype you up and keep you on

(20:02):
track.
Number seven declare abundancedaily Words.
They're like miracles.
You use them wisely Everymorning.
Declare affirmations like I'mthe queen of my finances or I
attract opportunities andabundance with ease.
Write them, speak them andbelieve in them, because you are
shaping your reality one wordat a time.

(20:25):
Also being mindful to startevery morning off in his word,
as he will always give one toyou.
So my sassy tip here for you isthat your mindset is the crown
you wear every day.
Adjust it to sparkle and shine.
Think of every mindset shift asanother jewel added to your
crown.
Keep polishing it, queen, because your abundant future is

(20:49):
calling and it's lookingfabulous.
A queen's wealth is her wisdomQueens.
Well, you've made it to the endof this episode and you've done
some hard work, so you need togive yourself a little hand clap
here.
And what a journey it's been.
Let's recap the royal game planhere You're going to build your
emergency fund like thefortress it is here.

(21:13):
You're going to build youremergency fund like the fortress
it is starting with $1,000 andthen growing it from there.
Then you want to dive intohacks for your kingdom with
practical strategies thatstretch your dollar and protect
your throne.
Then you're going to thinkbeyond the budget by flipping
the script on scarcity andleading with abundance.
Remember, your kids arewatching.
They'll preach what you teach.
