Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome to it's a Single Mom Thing, the show for
single moms by single moms.
This is Sheri, your host, and Iam happy you are here today.
Remember it's a single momthing and not the single thing
that stops you.
What if I told you that thesingle most powerful thing that
you can do this year doesn'tcost a penny and doesn't require

(00:24):
anyone else's approval?
You heard me right.
It won't cost you anything.
But here's the kicker it hasbeen costing you something.
So how is it free?
For me, it's changing the wayyou think.
So you stop shortchangingyourself.
That's right.
It starts with changing yourmindset, because the truth is

(00:47):
your thoughts shape your world, not the other way around.
I wonder how many of you, justlike me, have thought that
differently.
So if you're ready for a newyear and a new you, you are back
at the right place.
It starts right here, sister, right now, and with a new
mindset, ready to do some heavylifting, working out what isn't

(01:12):
working for you.
Welcome back, my single peeps,to our Say it With Me.
Yes, fifth season together.
What I know?
Right?
I am moved to tears justthinking about it, and it's
really.
It's all because of you and theyou's listening.
I want to first off, start offby saying thank you so much for

(01:33):
your time and your shine, because I am just glowing right
now just thinking of you.
So, as I like to do a play onwords and thinking of all the
you's listening right now, Iwant you to know I have a very
special year planned for us.
As you came to mine, this isour year to reflect, reset and

(01:58):
renew Now.
As such, this first episode inour what I'm calling Thriving 25
series New Year, new you, yourPath to Single Mom Success.
So over the next year, you andI, well, we're going to tackle
every challenge and everyopportunity that comes your way
as a single mom together.

(02:19):
But before we get to thehow-tos of success, we need to
lay the foundation, becausewithout the right mindset, all
the plans, goals and the to-dolists in the world yeah, they
won't stick.
Now let me tell you somethingthat I have learned the hard way
.
I used to think success was allabout doing more, being more,

(02:42):
proving myself to everyone, butwhat I realized is that success
well, real, lasting success itstarts in my mind and my heart.
When I stopped saying thingslike I can't do this and started
believing with God, I've gotthis.
Everything began to change.
Now let me tell you something.

(03:04):
I also learned about successthat I believe, besides our firm
foundation and the rock onwhich we stand, on that success
first starts with failure.
You heard me right, see, youhave to be ready to fail, for
what follows failure.
Well, that is your successReady set, grow.

(03:25):
Let's start this year by gettingready to grow, not just to
survive We've done enough ofthat, have we not but to truly
thrive.
If you've ever run a race, youknow the power of those three
little words Ready, set, go.
But for us, this isn't justabout running through life, it's

(03:48):
about growing through it.
Now I'm going to repeat thatagain it's not about just
running through life, it's aboutgrowing through it.
You see, I tend to think, assingle mamas, we are so
accustomed to go, go, go, gothat we forget to grow, grow,
grow.
It is possible especiallylisten, especially in this

(04:12):
difficult season to grow.
In fact, that's where Jesusdoes his best work.
So let's reframe those words toready set, grow, words to ready
set, grow Ready.
First, let's get ready byembracing a fresh start, kind of

(04:36):
like some fresh makeup.
The new year is a clean slate,a chance to leave behind the
weight of what didn't work lastyear and prepare our hearts for
what God wants us to do thisyear.
And here's the thing aboutgetting ready.
It doesn't mean you have tohave it all figured out.
It simply means showing upwilling to take the next step
even if you don't know where thepath leads.

(04:56):
And I know for us single mamaswho are used to being in
survival mode what now I amcalling thrive mode for 25, that
it can be really difficult whenyou don't know where he has you
going and growing.
So one way to get ready for thejourney ahead is to grab a
journal.
I like to call it your thrivein 25 journal.

(05:18):
This will be more than just anotebook.
It will be your carry oncoaching companion for the year.
Now, girl, you want to use thisto jot down your thoughts,
prayers and the lessons you takefrom each episode.
Ok, so you need to bring thiswith you next week, just giving
you a little homework rightthere, you see, because by the

(05:40):
end of this year it will be somuch more than words on paper.
By the end of this year, itwill be so much more than words
on paper.
It will be a tangible story ofhow far you've come and the ways
God has worked in your life.
It will be your roadmap tosuccess, now set.
Next, let's get set by shiftingour mindset.

(06:02):
Success isn't about perfection,it's about progress.
You see, perfection is anillusion that never happens
getting in the way of progress,if that's what you focus on.
And progress, well, it comeswhen we stop focusing on
perfection and fearing failureand instead we start seeing
failure as a part of the processof being perfected.

(06:26):
Remember, every time youstumble, you are one step closer
to success.
Don't give up, girl.
Get up.
This is where your journal canbecome a powerful tool.
You see, you can write downthose moments of growth, the
small victories, the lessonslearned and even the failures

(06:46):
that stretched you Over time.
You'll see how God has beensetting you up for success in
ways you didn't even realize andin ways you wouldn't even done
yourself.
Grow, finally grow.
Growth doesn't happen all atonce.
It's a process.
It's the small steps you takedaily, the seeds you plant in

(07:10):
faith and the moments when youchoose to keep going, even when
it's hard.
Each week, when we, when youcome back to this podcast, bring
your Thrive in 25 journal, useit to capture the highlights,
the truths that resonate and thenext steps you feel called to
take.
By the end of the year, girl, you will not only see how you've

(07:34):
grown, you will uncover anddiscover the incredible journey
God has taken you on.
So here's your call to actionReady.
Number one open your heart to afresh start.
Number two set, grab yourjournal and commit to capturing
this year's journey.
And three grow, step into thisseason with faith, knowing that

(07:58):
God has great things in storefor you.
This is your moment, girl, tothrive in 25, and it starts
today Changing my world, changing my words.
Let's talk about the power ofyour words Now.
If you've ever caught yourselfsaying I can't do this or I will
never get it right, then youknow how quickly those words can

(08:21):
shape your world.
Have you ever noticed that?
So let's do a little reflect, reset, renew, work right here,
right now, on your first day inThriving 25.
Have you ever looked back to abad day and reflected on why it
went south?
Possibly did your words turnyour world upside down.

(08:43):
You see, here's the truth.
What you say to yourself, itmatters.
As I like to say, your chattermatters.
Your words have the power totear you down or lift you up, to
keep you stuck or move youforward.
And if you want to change yourworld, well, it starts by
changing your words.

(09:03):
Said differently, let's look tothe word to see what it has to
say about our words, the powerof words.
And we're going to find that inProverbs 18, 21, which reminds
us the tongue has the power oflife and death.
That's not just a nice saying,it's a call to action.
Girl, you see, your words areseeds and what you plant, it

(09:27):
will grow.
If you plant negativity,self-doubt and fear, don't be
surprised when that's what fillsyour world.
You see, seeds of doubt.
They can kill a garden.
They are seeds, well I like tosay, turned into weeds that
choke, strangle and entangleyour garden with more thoughts
that can keep you in survivalmode instead of what we want to

(09:50):
do, in thrive mode.
So, but if that's true, we alsoknow that if we plant seeds of,
maybe, faith, hope and love, you'll see a very different
harvest, possibly one you didn'teven think was possible.
You see, the key is learning tospeak life into your
circumstances, even when itfeels hard.

(10:12):
So let me ask you would this bea good year to plant something
different, to possibly evenbloom where you're planted,
reframing negative narratives.
So let's be honest Life as asingle mom comes with challenges
and it's easy to slip intonegative self-talk.

(10:34):
But maybe if you've caughtyourself thinking I'm doing this
all alone or I'm not enough, but let me ask you, what if you
flipped those statements on hishead?
Instead of I'm doing this allalone, try, god is with me every
step of the way, he is near.

(10:55):
Instead of I'm not enough, sayI'm equipped for the season.
He is enough.
Therefore, I am enough.
Right here, right now, evenwhen things go left, you are
enough.
You see you, my dear, you havethe power, the power to change
your words and soon you'll startto see, your world will shift,

(11:20):
as I like to say, shift happens.
So here are some practicalsteps for that to happen.
Number one these are steps tospeak life.
Number one catch phrases andcatch your words.
Number one these are steps tospeak life.
Number one catch phrases andcatch your words.
Pay attention to what you sayabout yourself and your
situation.
You may take a pause, if youneed to, for the cause to write

(11:40):
that down in your Thriving 25journal.
You see, girl, are your wordsbuilding you up or breaking you
down.
Number two, then what you wantto do is you want to replace and
reframe them.
Or, like I like to say, eraseand replace.
You see, when you catch anegative narrative thought spot,

(12:01):
it got.
It is what I like to say.
You replace it with truth.
Write it down in your Thriving25 journal, for example.
If you think I can't do this, replace it with with God, I can
do all things.
And then number three dailyverse victories.
Or let me say that differentlydaily victory verses.

(12:21):
Start each day by speakingvictory verses over your life.
Here's one that you can do toget started I am strong, I am
loved and I am capable.
God is working all thingstogether for my good.
It's a truth bomb to blow upyour day in a good way.
So, truth be told.

(12:43):
Your Thriving 25 journal.
Well, it is the perfect placeto practice.
This is the perfect place topractice this.
Create a page just for words oflife affirmations, declarations
, truth bombs or victory verses, bible verses or even simple
truths, like I'm doing the bestI can and that's enough.

(13:05):
I don't have to have all theanswers.
I know the one who has myanswers.
You see, when you feeldiscouraged.
Flip back to those words andremind yourself of the power
that you have to speak life intoyour world.
So here's your challenge forthis week Pay attention to your
words.
Start noticing the way you speakto yourself and about your

(13:26):
situation.
When you catch a negativethought or a negative narrative,
write it down in your journaland flip it into something
life-giving.
You see, because when youchange your words you'll start
to see how they change yourworld.
Begin to notice sudden shiftsthat start to happen, how your
posture, much like your attitude, starts to straighten up.

(13:46):
Catch your confidence.
Feel the light of your spirit.
Enjoy the joy and the miles ofsmiles that suddenly show up on
your face, even when you facedifficult situations.
Notice the new you that tries totake a peek as you step a small
step outside your comfort zone, but then also notice the old

(14:08):
you that wants you to have aseat.
What does she say?
Is it something you or someoneclose to you spoke over your
life?
What does she want you to do?
What does she have to gain ifyou don't make any new gains
from doing those mindsets thisyear?
Record those thoughts, too, andthe catchphrases, and do that.

(14:30):
Catch them, hold every thoughtcaptive that has been holding
you, my dear captive Growth andgrace.
So, as I close, I want to leaveyou with two words that will
carry you through this journeyGrowth and grace.
So, as I close, I want to leaveyou with two words that will
carry you through this journeyGrowth and grace.
Growth is what you're aiming for.
It's the progress we make, thelessons we learn and the ways we

(14:55):
stretch ourselves to become thewomen and the mothers and, some
of you, the grandmothers Godcreated us to be.
But grace, it is what sustainsus, it's what catches us when we
fall, reminds us we're humanand whispers that God's love
doesn't depend on how well weperform.

(15:17):
In fact, if we're going toperform, he'd prefer it was with
our imagination and dreams, like we used to do when we were
kids the balance between growthand grace.
So here's the thing about growth.
It's not always a straight line.
Some days you'll feel likeyou're thriving and other days
you might feel like you'rebarely surviving.

(15:39):
That's OK, girl, because growthis messy I mean, your garden is
full of dirt, my dear it'simperfect.
And that's where grace steps in.
Grace says you don't have tohave it all together because I
got you.
Grace allows you to stumble andstill keep moving forward.

(16:02):
Grace allows you to stumble andstill keep moving forward, even
when you're stuck in the mud.
God's grace in your growth.
One of my favorite verses is 2Corinthians 12 9, and it says my
grace is sufficient for you,for my power is made perfect in
weakness.
That means that even on thedays when you feel like you fail

(16:23):
, god's grace is there to fillin the gaps.
Girl, it's his strength, notours, that carries us through.
So when you're growing, lean onhis grace.
When you're tired, lean on hisstrength.
And when you're tempted to giveup, remember that he's not
finished with you yet and he hasnot given up on you.

(16:47):
So here's some practical ways toembrace growth and grace.
Number one celebrate thosesmall wins.
Growth isn't about giant leaps.
It's about the small faithfulsteps you take every day.
Write those moments in yourjournal and celebrate them,
because they matter.
Number two give yourself somegrace when you fall short,

(17:11):
because you know you will don'tlet it derail you.
Instead, write it down whathave you learned?
And thank God for his gracekeeping you on track and keeping
you move forward.
And number three extend graceto others.
Now, this might be kind of hard, but this is where you're going
to grow.
You see, as you grow, rememberthat the same grace God gives

(17:34):
you is meant to overflow tothose around you.
That means your kids, yourcoworkers, the other co-parent,
even the stranger who cuts youoff in traffic.
Yeah, grace is a gift we giveourselves and others, and it's
one we didn't deserve.
So here's my prayer for you aswe start this new year.
My prayer is that you wouldgrow in ways you never imagined

(17:58):
and that you would experienceGod's grace in ways you never
thought was possible.
Remember, you don't have to dothis perfectly.
You just have to do itfaithfully and with growth and
grace.
You're already on the path tothriving in 25.
So take some time this week towrite in your Thriving 25

(18:20):
journal.
Reflect on where you are, whereyou want to grow and where you
need grace.
Let this be the year you seeGod's hand in your life like
never before.
And next week we'll takeanother step together on this
incredible journey.
Until then, keep growing andkeep showing up and keep

(18:40):
thriving.
Remember, this year we aregoing to reflect, reset and
renew.
