Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome to it's a Single Mom Thing, the show for
single moms by single moms.
This is Sherri, your host, andI am happy you are here today.
Remember it's a single momthing and not the single thing
that stops you.

Speaker 2 (00:15):
Well, hello there my women of worth.
So have you been feeling alittle unsettled lately, like
life is shifting in ways youdon't quite understand
Relationships changing, routinesdisrupted, or passions that
once fueled you now feel alittle different.
If that's you, I want you tolean in today, because I have

(00:36):
learned something about thesekinds of seasons.
Oh yes, it doesn't always meansomething's wrong.
Sometimes it means God isworking, and here's the picture
he gave me when a plant outgrowsthe pot it was planted in, a
good gardener doesn't ignore it.

(00:57):
He gently loosens the roots, not to harm it but to help it
grow.
God does that with us too.
So if you're feeling a littledisconnected from places and
people you once clung to, or ifyour heart feels tangled in
transition, or even if peacefeels a little root bound, maybe
it's because you're beingrepotted.
So today we are digging intowhat it looks like when God

(01:20):
begins separating you, not toisolate you, but to prepare you.
And listen, my friends, I getit.
I've been in and I am in thisvery season right now myself.
At first I was anxious, evenangry, I mean, my life had
already been full of change.
But God wasn't done working.
This time he was working on me.

(01:42):
I still don't have all theanswers, but I have started to
see the bigger picture, andtoday I want to help you see
yours, so let's talk about it.
Welcome to another episode ofit's a Single Mom Thing.
What's going on underground?
The work you don't see.
Let's be honest, ladies Some ofthe most powerful work God does

(02:05):
in our lives doesn't look likeor feel like progress at all.
In fact, it can look like andfeel like frustration.
It can feel like things arefalling apart.
But just beneath the surface, underground, god's doing
something.
He is tending to your rootsystem.

(02:26):
He's strengthening what nobodysees, not your followers, not
your friends, just you and him.
And here's why that matters.
Roots are the foundation ofgrowth.
They anchor the plant, theyabsorb what feeds it and, yes,
they are strong but also verydelicate.

(02:48):
If they grow twisted or tangled, the plant suffers.
If they're not given room tostretch, they begin to circle
the same small space, starvingfor more.
That's why, when God startsworking in your root system, it
may feel a little unsettling atfirst.
He's not just rearrangingthings, he is untangling them.

(03:13):
He's loosening you from placesyou've outgrown and gently ever
so gently preparing you for more.
Why?
Well sometimes.
One, he wants to heal thewounds buried deep in the soil
of your past.
Two, he may be breaking apartunhealthy attachments that are
wrapped around your identity.

(03:33):
Or three, he may be freeing youfrom survival habits you no
longer need, because now you'rein a season to thrive.
So here's the thing about rootsthey grow best in the dark.
You don't dig them up every dayto see if they're working.
You trust the process and that, ladies, you know.

(03:55):
That's what faith looks liketoo.
You may not see the fruit yet,but if you're still standing,
still seeking, still showing up,your roots are going deeper.
God is making sure that whenyou bloom, you'll have the
strength to hold it, much like asunflower.
So the next time you think, whydoes this feel so heavy?

(04:18):
Maybe you should ask insteadGod, are you growing me where no
one else can see?
Because, listen, despite myshort stature, I have found that
deep roots can make some talltrees Gently separated,
detaching with purpose.
Now here's where it starts tofeel real.

(04:39):
When God begins to repot you,he doesn't just yank you out of
soil.
No, he's a loving God.
He gently, ever so gently, loosens what you've been
clinging to, root by root.
But if we're honest, thatloosening can feel like a loss,
am I right?

(04:59):
You may feel like I don't know, you're being pulled away from
the people you love, or a seasonthat once felt very fruitful is
all of a sudden just drying up,or even you're outgrowing
something you once prayed tohave.
That's so confusing, it'sdisorienting.
But listen here, it's notpunishment.

(05:20):
Sometimes we view it aspunishment, but it is
preparation, not punishment.
Sometimes we view it aspunishment, but it is
preparation.
Just like a good gardenercarefully untangles roots that
have become root bound, godlovingly separates you from the
things that can choke yourgrowth, like dependence on
others instead of him, or evencodependence in relationships
where you lost your voice, oreven your value, or idolatry,

(05:44):
maybe putting jobs, people, routines or even, yes, ministry
in God's place, or simplyBecause you're ready, you've
matured and he has something newin store.
So here's the truth.
You might be feeling detachedright now, but you're not
discarded.
You, my friend, are beingpositioned, prepared, even

(06:08):
protected, and while thatprocess may feel like everything
is slipping through yourfingers, do not forget God sees
the whole garden.
You, my sister, may only seethe pot, so he's not asking you
to understand it all, oh no,he's asking you to trust him
through it all.
So listen.
If you're listening and you aresensing distance in

(06:31):
relationships or even old habitsthat no longer fit, or you're
even feeling restless where youonce felt rooted, do not panic,
my friend.
Instead, pray.
Pray, something like this Lordwhat are you separating me from
that I no longer need to be tiedto?
What are you making room for inmy life that I haven't even

(06:52):
imagined yet?
Because, ladies, sometimes thevery thing you are grieving is
the thing God is graciouslypruning.
I know that's an ouch Pruningdoes not feel good.
New pot, new perspective, fromcontainment to a calling.
So how did I get to be such agardener?
Well, let me just say, how didI get to be such a gardener?

(07:14):
Well, let me just say I didn'tset out to get my green thumb in
spiritual landscaping, but thesoil of life, yeah, that's where
I have found.
It will teach you, as I'msharing this with you today, I
find myself in this very season.
I didn't ask for it, but here Iam, hands in the dirt, roots

(07:35):
untangling.
At first, as I mentioned earlier, I was anxious and even angry
Angry at God, like, really God.
Another change, haven't Ialready had enough.
Because if you lived long as asingle mom, you know, right,
listen, life can be a revolvingdoor of transition, but this one

(07:55):
it's.
Somehow it felt different.
It was about the world aroundme.
Or, excuse me, it wasn't aboutthe world around me, no, it was
about the work inside me.
God wasn't just moving things,he was moving me, and I didn't
recognize it right away.
If I'm honest, what I did thisis what Cher Bear does I started

(08:16):
pulling back from places andpeople I had been planted in for
a long time, spaces that wereonce vital to my spiritual and
personal growth.
And then I started to wrestlewith the guilt and confusion of
doing that.
Why am I doing this?
Am I backsliding?
Am I running from something?
Why do I feel so distant fromthe people who once carried me

(08:39):
through my hardest seasons?
But then, in his sovereignty, god shined a little light on
this and I felt in my spiritthis check, you're not falling
back, you're growing forward.
Those people, those places, they were your lifeline when you
needed them.
But you raised your son and hehas moved out of the house, he

(09:02):
has flown the coop.
So now it's your turn, mama.
It's your time to grow in a newway, not out of desperation,
but out of development.
And here's the thing about beingmoved in a new pot that I am
finding, that I am sharing withyou.
One it might feel bigger, butalso a little empty at first.

(09:24):
Number two there's definitelymore room in that pot, but all
the roots have not formed inthere yet.
And number three you don't seethe fruit, but you certainly
feel the stretch.
You don't see the fruit, butyou certainly feel the stretch.
So, listen, my advice to you isdon't mislabel that emptiness
as failure, as I did.
It's the space that I havefound that God creates when he's

(09:47):
making room for something new.
So, even if you don't knowexactly where he's taking you,
ladies, you can trust the MasterGardener, because when God
moves you, he does it withintention.

(10:08):
He doesn't transplant without apurpose, for I know the plans I
have for you.
We have heard that many a timesin Jeremiah 29, 11.
And yes, we're going there.
Even if you don't know the planyet, you can rest assured that
he does.
So don't panic in the process.
Pause before you pull away.
Let me tell you something.
The moment and this is from myexperience the moment you start

(10:30):
to feel God repotting you, yourfirst instinct might be to panic
, to grab the nearest shovel anddig your way back into what
felt safe.
You may be tempted to I don'tknow go back to old
relationships just becausethey're familiar, or you might
be challenged to force doorsopen that God most certainly

(10:53):
already closed.
Or, number three, you mighteven rush ahead and plant
yourself somewhere new, anywhere, just to avoid the feeling of
unrooted.
But hear me on this Listen, please Do not do not make sudden
moves in a sacred season,because that's where you're at.

(11:14):
You are in a sacred season.
This is not the time to selfsabotage or scramble to fix the
silence.
It is time, rather, to pause, because the stretching, the
disconnection, the holydiscomfort and there is a lot of
that, oh yes, it's not meant todestroy you.

(11:35):
Instead, rather, it is aninvitation to deeper dependence.
So, instead of asking what'swrong with me, maybe you flip
that script and try asking Lord, what are you doing in me?
Lean in pray more than you post, fast before you flee, and most

(11:56):
certainly rest before you react.
And if you're seeking advicelet me caution you with this you
must start with him first.
Taking advice let me cautionyou with this you must start
with him first.
Then turn to only wise, trustedvoices who know your heart and
your history, not, listen to me,not just people who will

(12:17):
validate your feelings, no, no,no but who will point you rather
to the truth.
And sometimes, you know, thetruth hurts.
Because this is why Because, when God is repotting you, you
don't need everyone's opinion,you need his direction.
Trust in the Lord with all yourheart and lean not on your own

(12:42):
understanding In all your ways.
Acknowledge him and he willmake your path straight.
Proverbs 3, 5 through 6,.
That is found in many of ourpodcasts.
We need to be reminded of that.
Yes, you see, your path mightfeel crooked right now, but
trust, it's being straightenedout behind the scenes,

(13:02):
underground.
He's not just moving you, he'smaturing you.
So here is our one journalprompt for the podcast.
It will have the two questionsin it, so get your pens and your
paper ready.
Question number one where in mylife do I feel things shifting
or being pulled away?

(13:23):
Things shifting or being pulledaway?
Two what might God beseparating me from?
Not to hurt me, but to heal meor grow me?
Let this be a sacred space toreflect because, remember, you
are in a sacred season, writewithout editing, Let the Holy
Spirit speak and remember Mama, you're not being replanted

(13:48):
because you failed.
You're being repurposed becauseyou're ready.
So here's where I will close, because your garden matters too.
I know your world shifted theday you became a single parent,
just as mine did.
It may have felt likeeverything changed overnight
Plans, dreams, security and evenyour own identity.

(14:11):
And since then you've poured somuch into your kids, into their
healing, into their growth, into their garden.
But can I remind you ofsomething?
God is working on your gardentoo.
This season isn't just aboutsurviving, it's about healing,
it's about replenishing, it'sabout renewal.

(14:32):
Yes, your kids matter.
Their well-being matters, butso does yours.
You are not an afterthought inthe story of your own life.
You are the main character.
God sees the ashes and listengirls.
He is not afraid of them.
In fact, he specializes inbeauty from ashes.
He doesn't waste anything, notthe pain, not the loss, not even

(14:55):
the transitions that left youbreathless.
Even now, he's using it all thetears, the letting go, the
loneliness and even the longing.
He's repurposing it intopurpose.
And while you're busy tendingto everyone else's soil, god

(15:16):
hasn't forgotten your roots.
He is watering you too.
So don't downplay your owngrowth just because it's quieter
or slower than you expected, because the truth is, ladies,
sometimes beautiful is alreadybeginning to bloom in.
You Need prayer while you'rebeing repotted.
If this episode stirredsomething in your spirit, maybe

(15:40):
