It's like having the Athenian square scaled to modern complexity.

The safeguards Eli proposes reveal his deep understanding of human nature. No AI can judge humans - that remains strictly a human responsibility. Citizens don't vote for charismatic politicians anymore; they vote for actual policies. Every three years, people choose their preferred policies. Every decade, they set ambitious collective goals - cure cancer, reach Mars, whatever captures society's imagination.
