S1 (00:02):
America is now a place where Roe v Wade is
no longer the law of the land, a country where,
thanks to the Dobbs decision, the horrific issue of abortion
has been relegated back to the states. So where does
your state stand on the issue of life?
S2 (00:13):
Here to unpack present day issues from a biblical perspective
is Janet Parshall.
S1 (00:19):
The group Americans United for life has released a report
entitled lifeless 2025 State Rankings, where they rank states from
the most to the least pro-life based on their existing
life affirming policies. AOL looked at each state's protections for
life from conception to natural death. This includes laws on abortion,
legal recognition of preborn children, bioethics, assisted suicide and end
of life patient care, and health care. Rights of conscience. Additionally,
(00:42):
states were awarded points to their life affirming cultural and
political landscape and momentum. According to AOL, this past legislative session,
the pro-life movement faced many challenges, including pro abortion ballot initiatives,
and legislation targeting pregnancy resource centers. However, several states stood
firm in their courageous defense and advocacy for life. One
state remains a standout in its work to protect life.
(01:03):
AOL has reported that for the fifth year in a row,
Arkansas is at the top of the life list as
the most pro-life state in America. Continuing in its momentum
from last year, Louisiana comes in second after enacting numerous
life affirming laws, including a law that protects unsuspecting pregnant
women from the fraudulent provision of chemical abortion drugs. Tennessee
secured its spot as the biggest mover on the life list,
(01:23):
advancing from 13th to sixth. That state enacted strong protections
against abortion trafficking for minors and allocated funds to pregnancy
resource centers. Kentucky also jumped five points to number nine.
Alabama joined Connecticut with the biggest drop of six points
when it declined to protect life in the assisted reproductive
technology spaces. Alabama dropped from 10th to 16th. AOL's report
(01:45):
found that the five worst states in the fight for
life were Hawaii, Washington, Oregon, new Jersey, and Vermont. Ranking
46th to 50th in that order, the report identified a
significant dip in the number of life affirming protections passed
in 2024. In 2023, The pro-life movement was successful in
enacting 59 life affirming laws, but in 2024, only 41
(02:05):
pro-life bills and resolutions have been passed. Arkansas, Florida, Iowa, Kansas, Louisiana, Missouri, Oklahoma,
South Carolina, Tennessee, Utah, and West Virginia all passed bills
that provided funding to pregnancy resource centers. The Kansas Legislature
successfully overrode the governor's veto of a bill that creates
a tax credit for donations to pregnancy resource centers. West
Virginia stands out among the rest as it became the
(02:27):
first state in the nation to amend its state constitution
to affirmatively protect against physician assisted suicide. Aols report reminds
us that the fight for life is far from over,
and that 2025 offers us multiple opportunities to protect life,
both through legislation and through the ballot box. May we
not grow weary in well, doing. Those are my thoughts.
