Let's go.
Hi, I'm Jesse Morgan.
I used to just share home decorand renovation tips on social
media, but now I'm sharingsomething even closer to my
(00:21):
heart my journey and love forJesus Christ, my Savior.
Welcome to the Jesse MorganDevotions for the Christian Hot
Podcast.
This is a weekly devotional.
I started back in May 2024, butthe inspiration for it came
much earlier.
It was rooted in a faithjourney that began when my
daughter was born four monthsearly in 2023.
Through that challenging time, god worked in ways that truly
(00:43):
amazed me.
On this podcast, I sharepersonal stories of faith, woven
together with scripture, toshow just how incredible God's
word can be in our everydaylives.
My hope is that through thesestories, you'll be encouraged,
uplifted and reminded of God'slove and presence, no matter
what you're going through.
So I invite you to spend lessthan 15 minutes with me each
(01:05):
week as we reflect on thesedevotionals together.
Let's all pray within.
Faith in the Details Birth ofSamson.
Key passages Judges 13, numbers6, and Leviticus 21, 1-4.
We finally finally come to thefamous judge of them all, samson
(01:25):
.
Welcome back to the podcast.
So excited to have you all heretoday.
So, like I said, we are now onSamson.
Look how far we've come in thestudy of judges Amazing.
Anyways, samson, I'll be honest, I'm not a fan.
I really sat down and read hisstory and how God used him.
He's no David, he's no Joshuain battle, but here's where all
(01:50):
three have something in commonGod used them and they were all
men of war.
Now Samson, oh Samson, he'shonestly extremely reckless, a
bit and selfish.
But we'll get to that soon.
We'll be discussing Samson fora few weeks because there's just
a lot in his story.
(02:10):
So get ready for a deep diveinto the most famous judge of
them all.
But before we jump into the text, I wanted to start with a
little personal perspective orstory, as I usually do.
As many of you know, I'm nowthe parent of a very active
20-month-old.
She's walking, living her bestlife and completely wearing me
(02:33):
out.
My goodness, I can't believe.
She's almost two and now we'vestarted the search for schools.
My goal is to sign her up bySeptember 1st of 2025 for the
2026-2027 school year.
I was talking to a coworkerrecently who's out in California
and she was shocked at how farin advance you have to apply
(02:55):
down here in Miami for a school.
It's no joke.
I want the best environment formy daughter and let's be real,
the school we're hoping to gether into is expensive.
It's private, but one of thebest.
But it's just one of the bestschools in my opinion, and it
aligns with how we want to.
We want her to learn and grow.
(03:18):
Honestly, as of Monday, I had noidea how we pay for it.
I've been thinking about itsince last year and even started
looking at other options, figuring we probably, you know,
couldn't afford it.
But then one night duringdinner this week, I brought it
up to my husband I had neverreally talked to him about
tuition and like finding aschool and when I, you know,
(03:39):
explained the situation to him,he looked at me and he said add
up what we pay in child careeach month plus the taxes,
multiply it by 10 months, sinceschool runs 10 months a year.
And so I did and we couldafford it.
Like, how did I not puttogether?
Like put two and two together, like don't ask.
(03:59):
It took my husband to help mesee what was already possible.
My mind, my faith had beenunproductive, barren, if you
might say.
I couldn't see our finances forwhat they really were.
But God used my husband to helpme see his blessing.
Thank you, lord.
As I prepared for this newseason of finding a school and
(04:21):
all that, I realized I neveractually asked God what I should
do about the school situation.
But then, when I asked myhusband, I got my answer.
And that leads us to Judges 13,the beginning of Samson's story.
So birth of Samson.
The chapter focuses on reallySamson's parents, especially
(04:43):
especially his mother, who isnever named, but it speaks of
her faith.
She was barren, she had nochildren, but one day a man of
God appeared to her and said itsays in Judges 13, 3 through 5
the angel of the Lord appearedto her and said you are barren
and childless, but you are goingto become a.
You are going to becomepregnant and give birth to a son
(05:05):
.
Now see to it that you drink nowine or other fermented drink
and that you do not eat anythingunclean.
You will become pregnant andhave a son whose head is never
to be touched by a razor, because the boy is to be a
Nazarite dedicated to God.
From the womb, he will take thelead in delivering Israel from
(05:26):
the hands of the Philistines.
So, as we can see, samson'smother ran and told her husband
what had happened, explainingthat a man of God came and told
her she would become pregnant.
Become pregnant, then Manoah, her husband, prayed.
(05:47):
In Judges 13.8, it says ThenManoah prayed to the Lord.
Pardon your servant, lord, Ibeg you to let the man of God
you sent us come again to teachus how to bring up the boy who
is to be born.
The angel, as we would say, returned again only to the wife
at first, but eventually Manoahcame face to face with this man
(06:11):
of God, although they didn'trealize he was an angel at first
.
And Manoah asked in Judges 13,12, when your words are
fulfilled, what is it to be therule that governs the boy's life
and work?
The angel repeated theinstructions again, just like he
had said earlier, and here'slike a quick breakdown of those
instructions the child would bea Nazarite from the womb, set
(06:34):
apart from God, set apart forGod.
His hair must not be cut, hismother must avoid wine and
unclean food during pregnancyand he must avoid contact with
the dead.
Before we continue here, I justwanted to give a clear
definition of a Nazirite, justto make sure everybody's on the
(06:55):
same page.
A Nazirite is someone, a man ora woman who takes a special vow
of separation to dedicatethemselves to God for a period
of time.
So, to move on, what the angellisted as instructions on being
a Nazarite were all signs oftotal devotion to God, basically
.
So I would encourage you all toread all of number six.
(07:20):
It goes into detail of aNazarite, but below I still
wanted to read a bit fromNumbers to put everything into
context.
I want to prep you now withthis information because this
will also be vital in the restof Samson's story as we continue
for the weeks to come.
So it says in Numbers 6, 6-7,throughout the period of their
(07:41):
dedication to the Lord, theNazarite must not go near a dead
body, even if their own fatheror mother or brother or sister
dies.
They must not make themselvesceremonially unclean on account
of them, because the symbol oftheir dedication to God is on
their head.
Normally Nazarites took a vowfor a season or so, but for
(08:02):
Samson this would be a lifelongcalling.
So what amazes me is the faithof Samson's parents.
Manoah believed his wife beforeever seeing the angel.
He trusted that she had adivine encounter.
And when the angel returned, manoah didn't wait until the
(08:23):
baby was born to ask God what todo.
He prayed right away Lord, teach us how to raise this child
.
And that challenged me a bit.
As a parent, I have beenstressing about school costs,
weighing options, trying tofigure it all out by myself, but
I never stopped and said God,what should I do here?
I had faith, but it was sittingin the back seat.
(08:46):
Basically, god used my husband, just like he used that angel
with Manoah's wife, to show mealready, to show me I already
had what I needed to put Sage ina good school.
My faith just needed a nudge.
God had already made a way.
(09:08):
So some questions I had to askmyself and you can as well was
do I bring everything to God,like my school tuition situation
all the time?
Do I invite God into everydaydecisions?
Do I ask him how to raise mydaughter?
This chapter reminded me that, yes, we need to talk to the
(09:30):
husband always, but we also needto talk to the third parent,
our Lord, when things feelbarren, confusing, uncertain,
unproductive.
We I mean, are we just askingGod to fix it or are we seeking
his wisdom?
Are we seeking him forinstruction and direction?
(09:51):
Let me say this, my friends, who's listening?
Parents, god should be yourpartner in raising your kids.
Students, god should be yourstudy buddy in this life.
Christians, god should be theone who fills the gap when you
feel the void.
Amen, let's pray.
(10:12):
Heavenly Father, thank you somuch for the study of Samson.
Thank you so much for beingthat third parent, being that
third friend, being that thirdco-worker in any tough situation
we're going through, we justneed to ask for the guidance,
lord.
We just need to ask for thedetails, the instruction that
you're going to give us in orderto bless us, in order for us to
move forward and represent youin the best way possible.
(10:36):
Father, we thank you so muchfor the study of Samson and his
parents and the faith they hadeven before he was born.
And, father, we hope that wecan apply this to our lives
every day, every month, everyyear.
Lord, father, thank you so muchfor your love and compassion.
Thank you so much for the studyof judges.
Father, we love you and wepraise you in Jesus' name.
(10:56):
Amen.
Thank you so much for listeningguys, till next time.

This is Jessi Morgan praying onJessi Morgan Devotions behind
(11:42):
the scenes starting right now.
Scenes starting right now.
Welcome back to Jesse MorganBehind the Scenes.
I'm so excited to be here todaywith you.
Just a little extra, you know, encouragement here or there.
For today I wanted to come onhere and talk about this really
(12:06):
quick to just encourage peoplethat are going through.
It's not just this situation, but how this can be applied to
different things.
As I was studying, or startingthis study, of Samson, it blew
my mind again that I didn'trealize that Samson's mother who
we don't know her name, but wejust know him as Manoah's wife
(12:29):
she was a woman who was barrenand I, just after hearing that,
and then how God came to her andsaid I have a plan for you.
It made me sit back and go backand kind of research some of
the women that I have studied inthe Bible, some that I have
heard about, and it just blew mymind.
(12:50):
And let me just because I wantto mention this, because we know
today, in 2025, there's so manyfamilies that deal with
personal battles of fertilityand how, oh, it's just such a
thing now, it's just more andmore and all these things and I
just wanted to, you know, encourage people that are going
(13:13):
through that or going throughsomething really tough, that's
just not productive, that isfeeling so draining and don't
understand the meaning of it,that you know you put your faith
in God and you startproclaiming in advance that the
blessings are going to come.
God is going.
You know God will bless you inthe way that's suited for that.
(13:33):
But I wanted to go back toManoah's wife being barren
because you know we talk about,oh, this is such a thing now,
such a thing, and it's justbecause people, you know, maybe
people are talking about it more, but if you go back into
scripture, I just wanted to justmention if we go back to you
know, so maybe people aretalking about it more, but if
(13:54):
you go back into scripture, Ijust wanted to just mention if
we go back to you know, we knowSarah Abraham's wife was barren
and she finally had her firstchild, you know, over like the
age of 80.
We go into Hannah, hannah I willbe talking about Hannah, cause
I'm going to be jumping intothat in the next cycle of
podcasts in my next series, butHannah was the mother of Samuel.
(14:19):
She was barren for many yearsand then God came to her, gave
her a son and she raised him ina way that he was then dedicated
to the Lord.
You look at Rebecca, which wasthe wife of Isaac.
She was barren for 20 yearsuntil Isaac prayed over her, and
(14:40):
then she had Esau and Jacob, and then the last one I
mentioned last year duringChristmas we talk about
Elizabeth, who was the relativeof Mary, who gave birth to Jesus
.
Elizabeth was an older woman inage and she was barren, and
then God blessed her with Johnthe Baptist, and I don't want
you to look at it as, oh, allthese women then became pregnant
(15:03):
, but all these women were partof a plan that God had had in
store for them.
Women were part of a plan thatGod had in store for them.
And I just want to encourage youif you are feeling barren, if
you are feeling unproductive notjust in fertility situations
which obviously, if you are, that's fine too but just in
finances and mental health andyou know struggles in
(15:26):
relationships you just have toremember that if you can just
keep that faith and understandthat God has a plan for you and
you may not understand why it'sgoing on right now, but in the
end you will if you really putyour faith in the Lord and you
look at every single step inyour life and the good that
(15:48):
happens is a blessing.
As little as it may seem, andyou keep praising God in advance
of the blessing that's to come,it just changes the trajectory
of your mindset, of your faith.
That's something I really hadto do.
You know, when I dealt with myinfertility situations, when I
dealt with my daughter being inthe hospital for four months
(16:11):
with multiple surgeries, I hadto praise God in advance for the
blessing that he was going togive me tough consequences.
They saw it at the time whenthey were going through it, just
(16:32):
understand that toughsituations have been going on
for so long and that's why theBible is just so covered with it
.
But it also is in a way that itteaches you of how to handle
those things.
It teaches you that God has aplan.
If you have your faith in theright place and you know you
can't keep complaining, youcan't keep well, if worse comes,
(16:53):
you know worst case scenario,no, you can't do that.
You can't think the worst andsay, well, if I think the worst,
at least I will be disappointed.
That is just such a terribleway to, you know, handle your
faith.
So I just want to encourage youand this behind the scenes
today just really it touched meand I really wanted to talk
about that.
So be encouraged.
(17:15):
If you need prayer, if you need, you know, any type of
conversation, support, you know, message me, email me.
All my information is in thefootnotes.
Love you all.
God bless.
Have a wonderful week.
