Text if you need me? Prayer or just need encouragement…

Before the shepherds, songs, and starlight, there was the Word eternal, creative, and unstoppable. We open John 1:1-5 and find Christmas rooted in God’s first and final declaration: Jesus is the Word who was with God, is God, and brings life and light no darkness can overcome.

As we walk through the prologue of John, we explore how Jesus fulfills God’s long-standing declarations and why that changes the way we mark the season. The manger isn’t just a sweet scene; it’s the unveiling of God’s faithfulness across generations.

This episode is part of a 25-day Christmas devotional brought to life in short, focused reflections that help you slow down and sit with Scripture. Subscribe, share with a friend who needs hope, and leave a review to help more listeners find these daily moments with God.

SPEAKER_00 (00:00):
Hello, hello.
This is Jesse Morgan Devotionsfor the Christian Heart Podcast.
Welcome, welcome.
This year I'm bringing my 25-dayChristmas devotional to life in
a new way.
Beginning on day 11 through day25, each devotional entry now
has a matching mini podcastepisode, a simple 8 to 10 minute
reflection designed to help youslow down and truly sit with the

(00:22):
story of Jesus' birth.
Each episode clearly follows thesame day as the written
devotional, so day 11 in thebook is day 11 on the podcast
and so forth.
My hope is that these dailyaudio reflections make the
journey to Christmas feel evenmore personal, peaceful, and
meaningful.
Thank you for being here.
Let's go.

(00:45):
Jesus is the Word.
Word Episode 85, Day 18.
Key passage, John 1, 1 through5.
And it says, In the beginningwas the Word, and the Word was
with God, and the Word was God.
He was with God in thebeginning.
Through him all things weremade.
Without him nothing was madethat has been made.

(01:07):
In him was life, and that lifewas the light of all mankind.
The light shines in thedarkness, and the darkness has
not overcome it.
Today we're looking at John 1, 1through 5.
And yes, we could you canprobably tell I'm jumping from
gospel to gospel to give youmore a chronological picture of
the birth of Jesus Christ andjust key passages that really

(01:30):
shape the story.
I've always felt that John 1, 1through 5 is such an important
passage because it really setsthe tone of who Jesus Christ is
and what he's going to be.
If we look at it from the verybeginning, it says, in the
beginning was the word.
We can separate that and say theword represents Jesus Christ.
God has always been here, andJesus symbolizes that truth when

(01:52):
he was born in Bethlehem.
We know that as Jesus grows, hebecomes the flesh, the sacrifice
that allows us to be saved.
So then the question becomes, what does the word actually
mean?
If you look it up in thedictionary, word is a noun, and
it means a decl declaration or apromise.

(02:13):
And that is exactly what thebirth of Jesus represents.
Throughout the Old Testament,God made declarations and
promises.
Scripture tells us that a virginwould give birth to a savior,
Isaiah 7 14, for example.
It says, Therefore the LordHimself will give you a sign,
the virgin will conceive andgive birth to a son, and will
call him Emmanuel.

(02:34):
That was a promise.
That was a declaration plantedby God long before Jesus was
born.
There was also a declarationthat Abraham would be the father
of many nations.
There was a promise that theSavior would come through the
line of David.
And we know Jesus was adescendant.
We know that Joseph was adescendant of David.
All of this shows us that Godkeeps his promises.

(02:55):
When God declares something, hemeans it.
As Christians, we call, we arecalled to uphold the word, to
uphold Jesus.
Baby Jesus is the beginning.
And well, he's also the end.
Right now, we are celebratingthe beginning, the beginning of
the word, the beginning of thepromise, the beginning of the
that declaration.

(03:16):
And if we really sit in thismindset during this season, we
should also ask ourselves, whatis the promise?
What is the declaration?
What does it represent for ustoday?
And obviously, it represents ourrelationship with Jesus Christ
as our Savior.
It represents salvation.
But to me, it also representsour responsibility as children

(03:38):
of God, as Christians.
We are upholding, are weupholding that promise?
Are we accepting Jesus as ourSavior?
And are we sharing the good newswith others?
Are we living in a way thatreflects Jesus, walking in the
Holy Spirit, declaring that wewill stand for Him and for His
story no matter what?
Are we guarding our hearts socommercial things don't just

(04:00):
take over the season?
And don't we and don't get mewrong, I love Christmas.
I love Christmas trees andgifts, I enjoy it.
But the older I get, the more Irealize how important it is to
make sure my focus, mydeclaration, and my promise stay
centered on Jesus and the birthof baby Jesus.
So as you reflect on this firston these first five verses of

(04:23):
John, remember this.
Jesus is the word.
Jesus was here before, he ishere now, and everything will
end with him.
The baby born of a virgin is apromise and the declaration that
God will always take care of hispeople.
I mean, you know, if you reallythink about that, what a
blessing it is to serve a Lordwho fulfills his promises

(04:45):
always.
How blessed are we?
Amen.
Let's pray.
Heavenly Father, thank you somuch for your word.
Thank you for the birth of JesusChrist.
Thank you for the lessons andrevelations that come from
studying his life and thebeautiful gospels.
Thank you for the differentperspective and the people you
placed in this story.
And thank you, Father, forgiving your son so that he could

(05:08):
be born and he could and wecould celebrate his birth.
We love you, Lord, and we praiseyou in Jesus' name.
Amen.
God bless everyone.
Till next time.
Thank you for listening.

on earth, peace, goodwilltowards men.
