Podcast.
This is a weekly devotional.
I started back in May 2024, butthe inspiration for it came
much earlier.
It was rooted in a faithjourney that began when my
daughter was born, four monthsearly in 2023.
Through that challenging time, god worked in ways that truly
(00:42):
amazed me.
On this podcast, I sharepersonal stories of faith, woven
together with scripture to showjust how incredible God's word
can be in our everyday lives.
My hope is that through thesestories, you'll be encouraged,
uplifted and reminded of God'slove and presence, no matter
what you're going through.
So I invite you to spend lessthan 15 minutes with me each
(01:04):
week as we reflect on thesedevotionals together.
Let's all pray within.
The Power of your Testimony.
Study of Joshua, chapter 2,episode 38.
Key passage Joshua 2.
So hello and welcome back.
I'm so happy to be back withyou all as we continue our study
(01:27):
of the book of Joshua.
Let's dive right in, because Ihave a story that really shaped
me professionally and I believeit really ties in perfectly with
today's focus on chapter 2 ofJoshua.
So let's begin.
So, being able to influencesomeone's life, or being
(01:48):
influenced by someone, has to beone of the most humbling
experiences ever right.
For me, it happened throughsomeone I deeply respected, one
of my parents' neighbors.
He's an amazing seniorexecutive with an impressive
career, having worked forFortune 500 companies and
(02:09):
mentored some of the mostpowerful CEOs in retail,
automotive and tech industry.
But to me, he became obviouslya mentor, but also a friend who
completely changed myprofessional perspective.
Back in 2019, I was feelingstuck in my job at Macy's.
I'd been there for over sevenyears and, while I was grateful,
(02:34):
I felt stagnant and a littleunappreciated.
I shared my feelings with thisneighbor and he said something
that completely changed myoutlook.
He said to me Jess, I thinkyou're incredibly talented, but
staying in the same company forso long in retail might not be
the best look anymore.
(02:55):
The longer you stay, the morepeople might think you lack
diversity in your experience.
You're young, in your 30s.
This is your time to exploreyour experience.
You're young, in your 30s.
This is your time to explore, try new things and grow.
It's no longer a bad thing tochange companies frequently.
In fact, it can make you morevaluable and open doors to
higher salaries and betteropportunities because you're
(03:16):
willing to take the risk.
He then told me a story abouthow he got promoted six years in
a row early in his career.
Each year, he would go to hisboss before performance reviews,
made his case for a promotionand asked for growth
opportunities, and it worked.
(03:37):
By that time, he became athriving senior director and
after that he basically declinedthe next promotion and decided
to move on to a new companywhere he became a vice president
for a major nationwide company.
That struck.
That stuck with me.
(03:58):
It was his professionaltestimony and it made me realize
I needed to make a change.
With his help, I updated myresume and started looking for
new opportunities.
Even though COVID hit in 2020,I kept searching.
By December 2020, I landed ajob in tech, a completely
different industry, and Ihaven't looked back since.
(04:20):
That testimony changed my life.
It pushed me out of my comfortzone and helped me grow.
Honestly, have you everexperienced something like that?
I know Rahab did.
Now, who was Rahab?
She was the wife of Salmon, themother of Boaz who married Ruth
(04:42):
, who we did a series onremember, and an ancestor of
Jesus Christ, which you can findin Matthew 1, 5.
But before all that, she was aprostitute in Jericho.
Not exactly the best past right, but her actions in Joshua 2
redeemed her life and changedher future.
(05:03):
All because of what A testimony.
Let's dig into Joshua 2, whichis full of incredible lessons
and just eye-opening perspective.
Honestly.
So quick context just to give alittle background.
Remember, joshua was appointedby God to lead the Israelites.
After Moses' death, godcommanded him to lead his people
(05:27):
into the promised land.
Before crossing the JordanRiver, joshua sent two spies to
scout out Jericho.
The spies were spotted by theking's men of Jericho and they
had to go hide in Rahab's house.
When the king's messengersquestioned her, rahab said in
Joshua 2, 4-7, yes, the men cameto me, but I did not know where
(05:51):
they had come from.
At dusk, when it was time toclose the city gate, they left.
I don't know which way theywent.
Go after them quickly, you maycatch up with them.
They went.
Go after them quickly, you maycatch up with them.
She hid the spies under the flaxon her roof and later confessed
why she helped them.
Basically and she said this inJoshua 2, 10 through 11.
(06:13):
We have heard how the Lorddried up the water of the Red
Sea for you when you came out ofEgypt and what you did to
Shihon and Og, the two kings ofthe Amorites, whom you
completely destroyed.
When we heard of it, our heartsmelted in fear for the Lord.
(06:33):
Your God is God in heaven aboveand on earth below.
Rahab had heard about theIsraelites' miracles and
victories, not throughnewspapers or social media, but
through word of mouth.
That testimony of God's powerturned Rahab into a believer.
She asked the spies to spareher family when Jericho was
(06:57):
conquered, and they agreed.
They told her to tie a scarletcord in her window as a sign of
her faith and her promise tokeep their mission Her last
words before they left.
Joshua 2, 21.
Agreed, she replied.
Let it be as you say.
So she sent them away and theydeparted, and she tied the
(07:18):
scarlet cord in the window.
Rahab's faith and actionscompletely changed her life.
Her past could have held herback, but instead she chose to
believe in God, trust the spiesand act on that faith.
And in the end, the spies diduphold their part and I think
(07:39):
that's also another part ofIsrael's testimony for Rahab to
even increase her faith more, and it obviously changed her
life.
Similarly, my neighbor'stestimony changed my career and,
indirectly, my relationshipwith God.
If I hadn't listened to him andtaken the leap of faith, I
(08:03):
wouldn't be where I am today.
I wouldn't have had theflexibility to be present for my
daughter when she needed memost in 2023 and 2024.
I'm going to cry.
I can't believe it's like fullcircle in 2023 and 2024.
I'm going to cry.
I can't believe it's like fullcircle.
Rahab's scarlet cord symbolizesso much more than her promise to
(08:24):
the spies.
It foreshadows the blood ofJesus Christ shedding for our
salvation.
His testimony is the ultimatestory of redemption and grace
right.
So today I challenge you tostep out in faith and boldly
share your testimony.
Be a light for Christ and letyour story be a reflection of
(08:46):
his grace.
You never know whose heartmight be touched or whose life
might be transformed because ofyour courage to share.
You might even inspire someonelike Rahab, someone who feels
lost or unworthy to turn to God.
Yes, rahab was a prostitute, but let's set that aside for a
(09:09):
minute and remember this she wasa woman who was lost and then
found all because she heardabout the incredible works of
the Lord, israel's testimony.
Let's pray, heavenly Father.
Thank you for this day and forthe opportunity to come together
through this podcast.
Lord, I'm so grateful foreveryone listening and I pray
(09:32):
that they find encouragementtoday for everyone listening,
and I pray that they findencouragement today.

be, they can turn their livesaround through you, father,
remind us all that ourtestimonies, whether big or
small, have the power to changesomeone's perspective and lead
them to accept Jesus Christ astheir Lord and Savior.
(09:55):
Thank you for the powerfullessons in the book of Joshua,
especially for the story ofRahab.
Her transformation is such abeautiful reminder of your grace
and redemption, lord.
We are just so amazed thatRahab, despite her past, became
a vital part of the lineage ofJesus Christ too, as recorded in
Matthew, chapter 1, lineage ofJesus Christ too, as recorded in
(10:17):
Matthew, chapter 1,.
Her story gives us hope, lord, that you can use anyone in your
divine purpose.
Father, I pray that everyonelistening feels inspired to
share their faith, theirtestimony and their experiences
with others.
Help us to boldly proclaim thegospel and plant seeds that may
lead non-believers to you.
We love you, lord, and we thankyou for the privilege of being
(10:39):

We pray for all this in yourmighty name of Jesus Christ,
amen.
