Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hello, hello.
You're listening to the JesseMorgan Devotions for the
Christian Heart Podcast, episode53.
This week's devotional istitled the Unexpected Choice Can
Be Messy.
Study of Ehud.
Let's go.
Hi.
I'm Jesse Morgan.
I used to just share home decorand renovation tips on social
media, but now I'm sharingsomething even closer to my
(00:21):
heart my journey and love forJesus Christ, my Savior.
Welcome to the Jesse MorganDevotions for the Christian Hot
Podcast.
This is a weekly devotional.
I started back in May 2024, butthe inspiration for it came
much earlier.
It was rooted in a faithjourney that began when my
daughter was born, four monthsearly in 2023.
Through that challenging time, god worked in ways that truly
(00:43):
amazed me.
On this podcast, I sharepersonal stories of faith, woven
together with scripture, toshow just how incredible God's
word can be in our everydaylives.
My hope is that through thesestories, you'll be encouraged,
uplifted and reminded of God'slove and presence, no matter
what you're going through.
So I invite you to spend lessthan 15 minutes with me each
(01:05):
week as we reflect on thesedevotionals together.
Let's all pray within.
The unexpected choice can bemessy.
Episode 53, key passages 3, 12through 30.
Hey everyone, I'm going to takeit back for a minute.
Take it way back 31 years ago.
(01:28):
Anybody remember the legendaryfirst of its kind visual
masterpiece, jurassic Park?
Be honest, it's still one ofthe best movies ever made.
At least I think so.
For those who may not know,it's about a billionaire who
creates a theme park full ofclone dinosaurs on a remote
island.
Billionaire who creates a themepark full of cloned dinosaurs
on a remote island.
A group of experts is invitedto check it out, but things
(01:48):
quickly spiral out of controlwhen the dinosaurs escape their
enclosures.
From there it becomes a full-onfight for survival as the
guests try to outsmart theseprehistoric creatures, or
dinosaurs.
It's just so action-packed.
But there's one scene I still,to this day, can't watch.
It's the one with Samuel LJackson.
His character goes missing andthe main leading lady in the
(02:11):
movie ends up cornered after avelociraptor attack.
She backs into the corner and, boom, an arm drops on her
shoulder.
She turns around and it's justhis arm.
That's it.
The rest of him was bitten off.
So gross.
I still cover my eyes everytime.
That moment comes up, everysingle time, and then I'm good
(02:33):
for the rest of the movie.
Anyways, that same feeling, that mix of like oh, my goodness
, this is wild and kind of likedon't want to look moment
reminds me of the Bible storywe'll be covering today, which
is, in my opinion, one of themost gore-filled I've ever read,
and it's the second half ofJudges, chapter three.
(02:54):
This week we're focusing onIsrael again falling into sin
and, as a result, they end upunder the rule of Eglon, the
king of Moab.
But God raises up anotherdeliverer, a judge named Ehud.
Let's read a few verses thatset up the stage right.
So Judges 3, 15 through 17,.
(03:15):
It says Again the Israelitescried out to the Lord and he
gave them a deliverer.
Ehud, a left-handed man, gavethem a deliverer.
Ehud, a left-handed man, theson of Gerah the Benjaminite.
The Israelites sent him withtribute to Eglon, king of Moab.
Now, ehud had made adouble-edged sword, about a
(03:36):
cubic long, which he strapped tohis right thigh under his
clothing.
He presented the tribute toEglon, king of Moab, who was a
very fat man.
So here's the scene BecauseIsrael was under Moabite control
, they had to regularly bringtribute, which is a kind of tax
(03:56):
or an offering usually the bestcrops, silver goods of Israel,
and Ehud was the one sent todeliver the tribute.
He gave it to the king.
And then he left.
But then he turned back around.
Wait, why go back?
Right?
So let's read on.
Judges 3, 19 through 20 says buton reaching the stone, images
(04:20):
near Gilgad, he himself wentback to Eglon and said near
Gilgad.
He himself went back to Eglonand said your majesty, I have a
secret message for you.
The king said to his attendantsleave us.
They all left.
Ehud then approached him whilehe was sitting alone in the
upper room of his palace andsaid I have a message from God
to you.
As the king rose from his seat, boom.
(04:43):
That's when it all happened.
Ehud reached for his hiddensword or dagger in his right
thigh.
Only a lefty could have pulledthis off without suspicion and
stabbed the king right in thebelly, right in the stomach.
So in Judges 3.22, it says eventhe handle sank in.
After the blade and his bowelsdischarged, ed Hood did not pull
(05:07):
the sword out and the fatclosed in over it.
That is gross.
The bowels spilled out.
It's a scene I wouldn't evenwant to see in a movie.
No, thank you.
After that, ed Hood quietlyslipped out, shut the door
behind him and left.
The king's attendants thoughtthat the king was using, you
(05:29):
know, like the restroom, likeseriously.
So they waited and waited untileventually they came in and
found him dead.
Meanwhile, ehud had returned toEphraim, rallied, the
Israelites blew a trumpet andled them to battle.
God delivered them victory overMoab and there was peace in
Israel for 80 years.
(05:49):
That's a lot.
A lot happened in that littlepassage, but let's break it down
, the key things that reallystood out to me this week and
(06:10):
how it really applied.
So number one Ed Hood wasleft-handed.
Back then, being left-handedwas seen as a disadvantage.
Even now people find out thatmy husband, for example, is
left-handed and act it like it'ssome kind of hardship.
They'll say, oh, he'sleft-handed.
That must have been toughgrowing up.
Hopefully Sage isn'tleft-handed it's like a little
(06:33):
pity party every time.
But my husband, he's crazytalented.
He was an incredible basketballplayer, especially for his size
and position, and the onlything that stopped him from
going pro was injury.
That's it.
The overlooked can be basicallyused to do the.
Ehud being left-handed wasexactly what was needed to carry
out the plan.
Only a left-handed man couldhave reached for that sword in
(06:55):
the moment without beingdetected.
It was strategic, it wasintentional and God used that
unique characteristic of Ehud tosave a nation.
So here's that lesson, orhere's the takeaway I want you
to think about from this firstpoint.
So if there's something uniqueabout you, something people tend
to overlook or pity, don't letthat define you.
(07:18):
That very feature may be whatGod wants to use the most.
Number two sometimes the rightpath is messy, let's be real.
That whole stabbing scene wasviolent, messy and kind of
horrifying.
But here's the truth.
Sometimes doing the right thingisn't neat, it's hard, it's
(07:40):
ugly.
The gore in that storyrepresents something deeper.
It's the sin, the brokenness, the oppression being dealt with
and cut off.
The king was described as a verylarge man and that represents
more than just a ruler.
He symbolizes howoverwhelmingly an intimidating
(08:01):
sin or the enemy can feel.
But if you don't deal with itand if you don't cut it off, it
will consume you.
This took me back to theJurassic Park scene.
I always want to look away atthis scene, but spiritually God
calls us to look right at it.
Look at the sin, look at themess, face it, acknowledge it,
(08:25):
then cut it off and walk away.
You can't heal if you don'twant to face it.
And number three go back when noone else will.
Ehud went back alone After 18years of the Moabite oppression.
How many Israelites had thecourage to go back and confront
(08:46):
that king Zero?
Except for Ehud, a man from thesmallest tribe looked down on
for being left-handed.
He went back.
Sometimes God calls you to goback and confront something no
one else will, to step into asituation everyone else would
run from.
Ehud could only do that becausethe Spirit of the Lord was with
(09:11):
him.
And today we have the samepower, the same power available
to us through the Holy Spirit.
So listen to that Spirit, obeyhis voice.
God will stand with you whenyou face things others wouldn't
even dare to, and he will leadyou to victory, just like he did
with Ehud.
(09:31):
And he will lead you to victoryjust like he did with Ehud.
This story about this judge justreally opened my eyes in so
many ways.
It reminded me that the rightpath isn't easy.
Always you might beunderestimated, you might be
looked over, but at the sametime, someone else is
overlooking you.
(09:51):
God sees you.
He sees you always because hemade you and he made every
single feature of you unique andspecial, and he did that
because he's going to use it insome way.
He's not overlooking yourpotential, not for one second.
And just remember that anythingthat makes you stand out, god
(10:12):
put it there and in the end, ifyou seek him out, if you are
covered with the spirit, if youaccept Jesus Christ as your
savior, god's going to use thatamazing characteristic that you
have and the way that he needsto use it, and that's all that
matters.
And Ed Hood, being left-handed,is a perfect example of that.
(10:33):
Take your left-handed featureand make it the most amazing,
unique characteristic that youhave that you could use for the
glory of the Lord.
Let's pray, heavenly Father, wethank you so much for this study
of Judges.
It has just been such ablessing for me already, and I
know the listeners out there arefeeling the same way.
Father, we thank you so muchfor this study of Ehud and being
(10:56):
a left-handed judge thatdelivered Israel and it resulted
in 80 years of peace.
Lord, he had such a different, unique feature and all of us
have different unique featuresas well, and we just have to
understand and learn how to useit to glorify you.
And if we are filled with thespirit, if we accept Jesus
Christ as our savior, the HolySpirit will be there to comfort
(11:18):
us, guide us and direct us, andwe thank you so much for that.
Lord.
We thank you for this study.
We understand things get messy, situations are not easy and it
can be ugly, but when we haveyou by our side, lord, we can do
anything, and that's what thisstory really represents.
Father, be with everybodylistening this week.
We love you and we praise youin Jesus' name, amen.
(11:41):

This is Jessi Morgan prayingoff.
Jessi Morgan Devotions behindthe scenes, starting right now.
Hello and welcome back toBehind the Scenes.
(12:34):
I'm Jessi Morgan.
Today I just wanted to touchbase really quick on some
thoughts that I've been goingthrough.
This has been a really toughlike two or three weeks for me
and my family.
I'm not going to get into thedetails of it, but it's been
just challenging and it's beenmentally exhausting because I
(12:55):
think, as humans, we immediatelythink about all the possible
scenarios, what we can do to fixit.
How can we fix it, what does itlook like, what you know, what
are the next steps?
And sometimes you have to juststop and you have to seek out
the Lord and you have to diginto some of the ugly, mistakes,
(13:16):
messes, situations that you'redealing with.
You can't cover your eyes, youknow, and just avoid it.
You got to walk through it, yougot to deal with it and I think
right now that's what I'm goingthrough and it is hard, it is
not easy and if you are goingthrough the same thing but
something that's so challenging,I just want to encourage you
(13:40):
that I am going.
I can relate and many people canrelate, and what you have to do
is you have to cut off thatnegativity.
You got to cut out the peoplethat say they're your friends
and they're really not.
You got to cut out the negativecoworker that's just not
supportive.
You got to cut out maybe someof the shows that you watch that
(14:02):
just make your mind think adifferent way than you should.
Shows that you watch that justmake your mind think a different
way than you should.
You got to cut out the negative, cut out the ugly gore, just
like mentioned in this studywith the King of Moab and how he
died.
You just have to cut out thebad in order to get to the good,
and sometimes you have to facethings that are really
(14:24):
challenging, that you don't wantto face.
And as long as you have theLord by your side, as long as
you're grounded in the word andyou seek out the Lord daily and
know that he is going to deliverand have the faith he's going
to deliver, he will be there foryou.
Today I got hit with, I will say, tons of just ridiculous bills
(14:46):
back from when my daughter wasin the NICU.
I'm talking about I got billstoday from 2023.
And I'm like what is this?
And some got sent tocollections, which is insane
because I never got a letterabout it, and they said, oh well
, we got the wrong address.
And I'm like well, how am Isupposed to know?
You got the wrong address fromthe hospital.
(15:07):
So somebody in the hospitalmessed up and put my wrong
address and I didn't get a billfor a year.
Now it's in collections, so Idealt with that.
Today.
I dealt with some other bills.
Everything had to do with mydaughter's hospitalization and
that's such a sensitive subjectfor me anyway and I just felt
like Satan was just getting atme.
(15:27):
I was already having a toughcouple of weeks with some things
and then that gets plopped inmy lap today.
So that was just like my moment.
That was just.
I was breaking a bit, but youknow what, in the end I God was
just there.
He prevailed, he was there forme.
My parents, just out of nowhere, showed up at my house and I
(15:49):
wasn't in the best of moods, buthaving my mom there, I cried in
her arms and that was the most.
That was just great supportthat I needed.
And then I came home and myhusband just came home.
He was so helpful.
He just went and got somethings for us.
He got me dinner, he just wasso nice and the night ended
really well and in a way that Iwas able to reflect even more
(16:10):
before.
I brought this podcast to youand I'm just so thankful for
this platform and I hope thatthis encourages you.
If you're having a tough time, god is there for you.
Situations will be messy, itwill be gory, it will be hard.
Nothing comes easy, but if youhave the Lord by your side,
(16:33):
anything is possible.
That little left-handed featurethat everybody's overlooking,
god didn't overlook.
He's going to use it.
So just be encouraged.
Love you all Till next time.
