SPEAKER_00 (00:00):
Hello, hello.
This is Jesse Morgan Devotionsfor the Christian Heart Podcast.
Welcome, welcome.
This year I'm bringing my 25-dayChristmas devotional to life in
a new way.
Beginning on day 11 through day25, each devotional entry now
has a matching mini podcastepisode, a simple 8 to 10 minute
reflection designed to help youslow down and truly sit with the
(00:22):
story of Jesus' birth.
Each episode clearly follows thesame day as the written
devotional, so day 11 in thebook is day 11 on the podcast
and so forth.
My hope is that these dailyaudio reflections make the
journey to Christmas feel evenmore personal, peaceful, and
meaningful.
Thank you for being here.
Let's go.
(00:46):
You are not alone.
Key passage Luke 1, 39 through45.
And it says, At this at thattime Mary got ready and hurried
to a town in the hill country ofJudah, where she entered
Zechariah's home and greetedElizabeth.
(01:07):
When Elizabeth heard Mary'sgreeting, the baby leaped in her
womb, and Elizabeth was filledwith the Holy Spirit.
In a loud voice she exclaimed,Blessed are you among women, and
blessed is the child you willbear.
But why am I so favored that themother of my Lord should come to
me?
(01:28):
As soon as the sound of yourgreeting reached my ears, the
baby in my womb leaped for joy.
Blessed is she who has believedthat the Lord will fulfill his
promises to her.
So I got a question for you tokick off this devotional for the
day.
Ever felt like you were goingthrough something completely
alone, and then suddenly someoneelse opens up and says they're
(01:50):
walking through the exact samething?
Doesn't it feel like a weighthas been lifted off your
shoulders a bit?
And when that happens, do youthink it's intentional or just
luck?
I don't think it's luck anymore.
Maybe when I was younger I did,but I don't know.
So let's look at Mary andElizabeth in Luke 1, these
passages we just read, thispassage we just read.
(02:12):
So as soon as Mary hears aboutElizabeth's pregnancy, she
rushes to see her.
And when she arrives, Scripturesays Elizabeth's baby leaped for
joy.
And Elizabeth was filled withthe Holy Spirit.
That moment wasn't random.
That was God.
As I get older, I'm realizinghow important Christian
companionship really is.
(02:34):
Having someone journeyingthrough the same season brings
such comfort, you know?
It might be two people startingnew jobs at the same time, two
moms entering the same chapter, two people dating or navigating
school or travel at the sametime.
There's something so reassuringabout not walking alone.
It gives you a little moreconfidence, a little more peace,
(02:57):
and I truly believe God knowsthat.
I think he aligns people, seasons, and timing on purpose
so we can experience his lovemore clearly along the path he's
leading us on.
I remember a time when I was insixth grade, and my mom decided
that she wanted me to try outfor the track team because she
(03:18):
knew I had speed, I could run.
I was terrified.
I was throwing like almost atantrum.
I did not want to go out there.
I was terrified to go.
I didn't know anyone.
And I knew that we would have towork out with high schoolers.
And I'm that was just sointimidating to me.
But she forced me to go outthere.
She walked me out there.
And then when I got out there, Inoticed that there was like five
or six other sixth graders thatI knew.
(03:39):
And I wasn't alone.
And I was like, oh my gosh, Ihave people out here I knew.
And I and I still wasintimidating dealing with high
schoolers, but it was socomforting that I had six other
like sixth graders with me outthere to go through this, you
know, with me.
And I didn't feel alone anymore.
And that was just the bestthing.
(04:00):
And I loved track and fieldafter that.
Now picture Mary going to seeElizabeth.
Elizabeth, who had been hidingher pregnancy because she didn't
think anyone would understand.
And suddenly her young cousinshows up, pregnant by the Holy
Spirit, carrying the savior ofthe world, and also needing
(04:20):
someone who would understand hercompletely unbelievable
situation.
And when Mary walks in,Elizabeth's womb jumps, she's
filled with the Holy Spirit.
That's a boost.
You know, that's the boost youget when you find someone going
through something similar.
It's comforting, it'sconfirming.
(04:41):
God encourages and companionshipbecause he knows we need it as
human beings.
He knew the news of a virginbirth would probably feel very
overwhelming and isolating forMary.
So he made sure Elizabeth wasexperiencing her own miraculous
pregnancy at the very same time.
What timing, whatintentionality.
(05:14):
So think about your own life.
Do you have someone walkingthrough a similar season right
now?
That may not be a coincidence.
That may be God placing comfortin your path through
companionship.
How are you embracing it?
How are you, you know, lookingfor it?
How are you thanking God for it?
(05:38):
It's just such a blessing whenwe have people in our lives that
are on the same spiritual plpath and they understand what
you're going through, or youhave somebody who just has great
sympathy and really prays foryou and is really there for you
when you're going throughsomething.
And they're going through somesomething somewhat similar as
(06:00):
well.
And I think that's such ablessing to have, even if the
situation is hard.
How amazing is it when you havesomeone who's right there with
you who's going throughsomething too, and you guys can
bond over it.
That's what God wants us to do.
That's why God wants us tocontinue to go to church to
fellowship with others.
(06:20):
It's so important.
And look how important thatturned out to be for Mary and
Elizabeth.
Let's pray.
Lord, thank you for yourblessings and your love.
Thank you for your companionshipand friendship.
Thank you for the comfort youbring when we feel alone at
first.
As we continue the study ofJesus' birth, let us see your
(06:41):
intentional timing in every partof our lives.
Father, we love you and wepraise you.
In Jesus' name.
Amen.
Till next time.
Thank you for listening.
