"Bow and bend before the Son, that He not become angry, and you perish in the way, for His wrath may soon be kindled. How blessed are all who take refuge in Him!   - From Psalm 2

We have covered all four Gospels and then engaged with Epoch 6: The Shining Light. This gives us a good overview of the centrality of Jesus to the entire God Story (Jesus Centric). In episode 13: Epoch 1: we considered our human and spiritual origins in Genesis and Job. In this episode (14: Epoch 2) we will immerse ourselves into the story of God's chosen people, the Hebrew or Jewish people. We addressed early on the concept of why God chose Story to communicate with mankind after the disastrous results of the fall in Genesis 3. Story is relatable, adaptable, and also suitable to project We were now separated from our Creator and would remain so forever - had not our King acted clearly and decisively.

There are four accounts that help us understand the deep reasons Jesus was going to need to give Himself as the Lamb of God. Exodus gives us a clear picture of just how lost and vulnerable we all are. Leviticus discusses access to and connection with God. Inasmuch as we are priests of God Most High in Jesus, investigating this connection more deeply is important. "But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for God's own possession, so that you may proclaim the excellencies of Him who has called you out of darkness into His marvelous light. For you once were not a people, but now you are the people of God; you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy." - 1 Peter 2:9,10

In addition to being priests, Numbers explains in graphic detail that we have deep vulnerabilities. We know that rebellion against God and stubbornness toward man are endemic to our nature (1 Samuel 15:23) and counter-productive to the purposes of God. Deuteronomy paints a very clear picture of God's holiness and how it relates to the plans and choices of man. We can choose to set aside our self-centeredness and choose God-honor instead.

When we understand human roots (Genesis), our need for spiritual deliverance (Exodus) our nature to wander (Numbers), and our need to have our hearts and souls reshaped (Deuteronomy), we are not far from the Kingdom of heaven - and from our King.

This session will amplify the purpose of the first 5 - the books of Moses. I am reading a book right now that argues there is reason to not be able to trust in God's ability to deliver His mind and heart to us in a reliable way. I am not buying it, but certainly don't mind entertaining alternative world views, right? Thank goodness for the woven threads of the amazing Word of God.

"So we have the prophetic word made more sure, to which you do well to pay attention as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star arises in your hearts. But know this first of all, that no prophecy of Scripture is a matter of one’s own interpretation, for no prophecy was ever made by an act of human will, but men moved by the Holy Spirit spoke from God."           - 2 Peter 1:19-21

I wonder why Peter thought that? Something he heard? Something he saw?
