The curtains have changed, but the house remains the same. Mark Carney’s leadership as Canada’s new Prime Minister has raised questions about continuity versus change. His cabinet shuffle largely retained Trudeau’s key players, including Chrystia Freeland and Stephen Guilbeault, while economic policies, such as tariff exemptions, appear to contrast campaign promises of standing firm on trade. Has is really shifted, or is it business as usual under a new face?

As Canada faces economic uncertainty, with growth forecasts under 1% and potential recession looming, the government’s focus on symbolism, like King Charles III’s throne speech, has sparked debate. With the Liberals likely to find support from NDP MPs, are we witnessing meaningful action or just political theatre?

Speaker 1 (00:02):
Hey everybody, welcome back to another edition
of the Rent Network.
I'm flying solo today.
Stuart is out and I don't havehis music as well as he's the
music guy.
You know, here at the RentNetwork we do take a lot of time
to poke our fun and poke ournose into politics, news,
culture and so many differentthings.
And a lot of people like to sayyou know, you guys are so

(00:24):
critical of anybody on the left.
Well, today I'm going to keepthat up, because here in Canada
I'm scratching my head at theongoing love affair that
Canadian media has for theLiberal Party of Canada the
excusing, the BS, you name it.

(00:44):
So today that's what I'm goingto focus on, solo.
So if this is your first timehere, welcome back to the Rant
Network.
I'm David Solomon, usuallyhosted with Stuart Prisgall,
who's traveling today.
We do this every Monday, wednesday, friday, noon Eastern.
What do we do around here?
It is really simple.
This is an unedited, uncensored, unfiltered and certainly
unapologetic rant about politics, modern life and the craziness

(01:08):
that is, and so much more.
Sit back, folks, because todaythis is all about our opinions
and rants about life, differentperspective.
That'll make you laugh, makeyou think and make you even get
angry.
Because, as we explore theseabsurdities of life, it's the
kind of stuff that people don'twant to talk in popular circles,
that they don't want to getinto.
And so here we go, ladies andgentlemen, today's rant in about

(01:34):
Canada and Mark Carney.
Oh, ladies and gentlemen, markCarney, once again.
Everybody's love affair in themedia with the Liberal Party.
It was berserk A month ago, almost to the day, actually to
the day, I should say.

(01:55):
What did we do here in Canada?
We've just changed.
You know, like the who said outwith the old boss, in with the
new boss, but same as the oldboss.
Because, let's be realistic, mark Carney changed the curtains
, but that's about it.
It's the same house, the samepeople and the same feeling, the

(02:18):
same empty promises that theLiberal Party has been so well
known for, liberal Party hasbeen so well known for.
So let's talk about some of thechanges that Mark Carney
demanded, insisted, since hisyou know, he was elected a month
ago.
Let's talk about his cabinet, where he says, no, no, I'm going
to change the cabinet andinstead of, you're going to see
a huge difference.

(02:39):
Yeah, let's see what he wasdoing.
So, yes, he replaced, you know, melanie Jolie with Anita Anand.
Anita Anand, a staunchanti-Israel advocate.
She hates Israel.
It was clear by her statements.
So you swap Melanie Jolie, whowas making those statements, for

(02:59):
Anita Anand.
In fact, mark Carney himselfhis statements about Israel.
Once again, israel's at fault.
He threatened Israel, as we'vetalked about in prior rants.
He threatened Israel forsanctions.
Out with the old boss, in withthe new boss.
Same as the old boss.
It's giving a pass to Hamas,mark Kearney.

(03:22):
Anita Nand got thank you notesfrom Hamas.
Out with the old, same as thenew.
Look at the names who are stillaround Chrystia Freeland.
Stephen Gilbeau People can'tJust like.
He's such a lefty and has somecrazy ideas.
Mellon O'Jolib went fromforeign affairs to the Ministry

(03:45):
of Industry.
Dominique Leblanc, ministerresponsible for Canada-US trade.
We'll get to that in just asecond.
And the name goes on and on andon.
So many of the same faces, somany of the same names.
Out with the old, in with thenew, but the new's the same.
You changed the curtains, youjust didn't change the house.

(04:06):
And while you could say it'snot right to go out and make
complete, wholesale changes andsay, oh no, you know, listen,
you need new blood.
And he did get some new blood.
The reality is that the peoplewho were the closest around
Justin Trudeau StéphaneGuilbeault, christia Freeland,
sean Fraser, françois-philippeChampagne, anita Anand and on

(04:30):
are still the closest aroundMark Carney.
So it was changed Bye.
A month later, ladies andgentlemen, you know, you ask
yourself what exactly has MarkCarney done as being prime
minister?
And you can say well, come on,david, you can't ask him to do
anything.
He just got there a month ago.

(04:50):
He was elected only a month ago.
What could he possibly do?
This isn't the United States,people.
Let's get real.
Mark Carney was the primeminister of Canada after he took
over for Justin Trudeau.
He got the mandate as liberalleader.
He became the de facto primeminister and he said he went to

(05:11):
negotiate with Trump.
He had policies put out.
He was able to do things.
He went to visit Donald Trump, sure, but in typical Mark Carney
liberal style.
The bluster and the noise thatwas made in the election gone,
it's gone.
Let's be real.
While he won last month, convincing millions of voters

(05:34):
that he can manage the trade warwith the United States.
Come on, let's get real.
He said that Canada must focuson domestic goods I'm just
reading the quote here supportedby government-funded
infrastructure and housing plansand explore new global
alliances.
Yadda, yadda, yadda, yaddayadda.
But guess what?
People?
The tariffs are nearly gone.

(05:57):
That's right, they're nearlygone.
He introduced a six-monthexemption.
That's right.
A six-month exemption coveringgoods used in manufacturing,
processing, food and beverage, packaging and products linked to
health care, national securityand public safety.
Automakers producing in Canada, including GM, received
clearance to import certainvehicles without tariffs.

(06:17):
Basically, according to oxford'sestimates, these so-called
retaliatory tariffs, as if it'szero.
So they were like a little bitoh, we're gonna, we're gonna,
we're gonna still tariff orangejuice and alcohol and coffee and
cosmetics and clothing, but thebig things zero retaliatory

(06:39):
tariffs, people.
So where is it Now?
You're sitting here going, david, he had to save the
Canadian economy.
He couldn't do it, so he lied.
That's what he did.
He lied.
That is the typical situationhere.
Well, right now we're scratchingour heads today saying what
exactly has changed in a monthsince the election?

(07:02):
Nothing, out with the old boss,in with the new boss.
Same as the old boss.
It hasn't changed.
A liberal party continues toreign as if nothing has changed,
with empty promises, a lot ofwindow covering.
Maybe, like I said, he changedthe curtains, but nothing else

(07:24):
has changed.
The Canadian media hascontinued to support as an
entity, no matter what Carneydoes.
Trump is the enemy.
Carney is the savior.
We can stop electioning people.
We could stop.
Right now.
It's over Carney's won.
He didn't win the majority, hegot a minority government, and

(07:47):
deservedly so.
But let's get real.
We're a month into his newmandate and nothing has changed.
So what did he do this week?
He waited to open parliament.
And what does he do?
To send the message to DonaldTrump and to everybody?

(08:08):
Again, changing the windowcoverings.
He invites King Charles to givethe speech from the throne,
like his mother did 2,500-wordspeech.
By the way, king Charles didn'tsay a word that wasn't approved
by the Canadian government.
That's right.
Although the monarch is theso-called monarch of Canada, he

(08:35):
knows he's not coming here tosay something that he wouldn't
be uncomfortable with.
But at the same time, it was amessage for Canadians, written
and dictated by Mark Carney andthe Liberal Party of Canada.
The window covering that wasmade yesterday was to talk about
how Canada is the true north, strong and free.
Beautiful words, beautifulwords.
The Raptors should adoptsomething like that.

(08:56):
Called we the north.
Enough, guys.
It's this whole ideology thatthe only enemy we have out there
is donald trump, is the fallacythat will continue to keep mark
carney, you know, away from thecriticism, because the media
will focus again on donald trumpand his 51st state remarks,

(09:20):
which he made again short.
It's annoying people.
Canadians as a whole, as anentity, do not care about the
monarchy.
The canadians as a whole do notwant to see the monarchy here.
And yet, to create thisillusion again, mark Carney

(09:49):
needs to window dress and, yes,he plays with the monarchs.
He's in love with them.
I mean, let's get real.
It's been the symbol of Canada, king Charles said, and it
stands proudly with Canada.
All the right words, all theright words that signify nothing
.
The United Kingdom is inshambles, shambles, people.
King Charles is reigning over adisastrous country and yet he

(10:11):
comes here and talks about us.
It's perfect, it's so carny.
Window dress, change thecurtains, but keep the house the
same.
Pretend that there's a bigdifference, pretend what we
really are.
And I know today people aresitting here going.

(10:33):
David, give him a chance.
He just got into the job, as hesaid throughout the entire
election.
I just got here, but the saviorhas done nothing, not a policy,
not a state.
It's been all about windowdressing, and I'm repeating

(10:55):
myself because that's exactlywhat Carney has been doing.
Our economy is in trouble.
According to forecasts, wecould be in a recession very
soon.
We are stagnation.
We do not.
We're not growing.
Less than 1% this year, 0.3% in2026 are the predictions.
So where is the rush to make thechange?
We're going to wait forParliament to be reconvened.

(11:15):
Why?
Let's get this stuff going.
Let's move Carney.
If our economy is in suchtrouble, how is King Charles
going to help us?
He's not so pageantryno-transcript.

(11:40):
You know, it's interestingbecause the Liberal Party of
Canada is supported by a veryhardcore leftist who is all up
in arms about colonialism, rightColonialism and they bring the
monarch here who colonizedCanada.
That is what it's represented.
Is the irony not lost on theLiberal Party?

(12:02):
On the media?
How cute.
But the same people whocriticized Israel and all this
you know this lefty banter arecelebrating the king coming here
to give a speech.
Is the irony not lost, ernie?
Not lost.
That's what I'm talking about.
This cover-up, this curtainchange, it's just to try to put

(12:31):
an illusion in front of youpeople that nothing will change.
In Canada, mark Kearney won anelection.
Yep, he won, regardless of howyou feel he won.
And yet he will continue toreign, despite the fact that he
doesn't have a majority.
He's close to a majority and hewill need the NDP to pass

(12:53):
legislation.
Sound familiar?
The bloc might help theconservatives certainly won't
where necessary, but they're notgoing to topple the government.
The NDP, with seven MPs,they're not going to do anything
.
They're going to cozy up thelibs because now they're the one
who can pass legislation, they're the one who can keep

(13:14):
things in power.
They don't need the BlocQuébécois, they don't need the
conservatives.
They just need the seven MPsthat are sitting there who are
going to vote for the liberals.
And what do you think?
They're going to push for?
Socialist policies, soundfamiliar.
Anti-israel legislation Soundfamiliar.
Anti-us rhetoric Sound familiar.

(13:36):
The 10 years that we had underTrudeau nothing's going to
change.
And the last four with theTrudeau-NDP alliance nothing's
going to change.
It may not be as official aswhat Trudeau did with Jagmeet
Singh.
It may not be an officialformation of that alliance, but

(13:59):
rest assured, mark Carney istalking to the NDP because the
bloc is going to do what's goodfor Quebec.
The Bloc doesn't care about therest of Canada per se.
They care about Quebec and theConservatives don't want to show
that they're aligned with theLiberals.
So it's only the NDP, theleft-leaning, hateful, racially

(14:19):
driven party.
Nothing has changed.
This election redrew the map inhouse of commons.
Some new faces, some old facesgone, but at the end of the day,
people were seeing the samething.
It just, instead of justintrudeau with this-like way of

(14:42):
talking to you, you got theimpatient Mark Carney, who just
wants to be heard and doesn'tgive a crap about you people.
Welcome to Canada in 2025.
So for those of you who votedfor the Liberal Party and said,
yeah, we voted for change, what'd you get?
What'd you get?

(15:03):
That's it, ladies and gentlemen, thank you so much for joining
