Fitz and The Tantrums released their sixth studio album Man on The Moon last week. Anchored by the lead single “Ruin the Night,” the album is full of alt pop anthems with booming Motown-inspired drums.
Over the years, hits like “Out of My League,” “I Just Wanna Shine” and “HandClap” have become part of pop culture. Even if you don’t follow the band, you’ve heard them in a TV show, movie, or commercial.
What makes the run more impressive is the path Fitz (Michael Fitzpatrick) took to get here. A professional musician for decades, he was in his late 30s when the band started and north of 40 when they scored a record deal.
In this interview with Jordan and Demi, Fitz talks about the band’s origin story, the making of Man on the Moon, and his undeniable stage chemistry with co-vocalist Noelle Scaggs.
