On This Week’s Episode
Hey, it’s Josh, and this is Episode #31 of the Josh Bloom Podcast!
This week, we talk about how I spiraled and got depressed over the lack of a good “Pope from Chicago” joke, my ongoing struggle with food, boundaries around food, and self-discipline regarding food. Did I mention food?
We also get into a negative commenter named Jim who blocked me, and I discuss his potential love of R.E.M. and somehow manage to bring up The Lord of The Rings, then we get into Penn Jillette from Penn & Teller’s discussion on his podcast of cults, the concept of evil, and how my parents checked my skull to see if I was a real-life Damien from the film The Omen.
Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, and Carole King are invoked during a rant on the difference between facts and truth, I bring up the well-intentioned manipulation of a indie famous friend I have been contracted to write a book about (look for a subtle clue in the thumbnail of this week’s episode — it’s not the person pictured!), and we celebrate making it through 8% of 1461 days with a mention of Rodney Dangerfield.
If you haven’t seen Rodney as Al Czervik in Caddyshack lately or ever, it is one of the greatest comedic film performances ever. Distract yourself from something and watch it this weekend.

Hi. It’s Josh.
A few days before the inauguration, I was thinking about how I wanted to deal with the next four years.
I was exhausted by the news!
But I wasn’t interested in going completely uninformed. I wanted to use the “opportunity,” as I had decided to optimistically look at this timeline, to become more mindful and better train my mind to take in the “news,” and then let it fall away from my conciousness.
Efficiently and totally. The other aspect of this thought was to then take the personal time I was reclaiming through this process and apply it to more creative endeavors.
This series, for example!
1461 Days of Ignoring The Trump Administration began. “Day 1” went viral on TikTok, so now I am in until 2029, right?!
If you are also someone aspiring to become the best version of yourself, please feel free to join me on this journey, which is sure to get weird around “Day 132,” “Day 877,” and “Day 1001,” etc.
For your pleasure (maybe not, let’s see), here is another compilation of posts, along with an exclusive intro and outro only available on the podcast (because I love you.)
As per usual, if you want to see video of the original TikTok posts that this podcast audio is derived from, you can watch them all on YouTube at this link. Sometimes seeing my face makes it better (maybe not, let’s see.)
Please follow the Josh Bloom Podcast on your favorite podcast app!
Thank you,

More about Josh:
I published my first newsletter before the age of ten, written using my next-door neighbor’s typewriter, copied with carbon paper, and distributed to mailboxes on my bicycle.
One of my first stories was an obituary of John Belushi. Strange for a ten year old? Yes!
My writing today is governed by deadpan sarcasm that goes granular on various cultural topics that I am deeply curious about. I hope you enjoy this sometimes snarky stream of consciousness.
I'm serious about not taking life too seriously.™

Cardiac Cowboys
The heart was always off-limits to surgeons. Cutting into it spelled instant death for the patient. That is, until a ragtag group of doctors scattered across the Midwest and Texas decided to throw out the rule book. Working in makeshift laboratories and home garages, using medical devices made from scavenged machine parts and beer tubes, these men and women invented the field of open heart surgery. Odds are, someone you know is alive because of them. So why has history left them behind? Presented by Chris Pine, CARDIAC COWBOYS tells the gripping true story behind the birth of heart surgery, and the young, Greatest Generation doctors who made it happen. For years, they competed and feuded, racing to be the first, the best, and the most prolific. Some appeared on the cover of Time Magazine, operated on kings and advised presidents. Others ended up disgraced, penniless, and convicted of felonies. Together, they ignited a revolution in medicine, and changed the world.
