Speaker 1 (00:04):
Hello, my loves,
welcome to this week's episode.
I hope you are all enjoying thefirst few weeks of spring so
far.
Isn't it so amazing to see howthe world around us is
constantly changing?
Springs is one of my favoriteseasons.
(00:26):
I have a hard time choosingbetween spring and fall.
They're like right next to eachother.
But spring is one of myfavorite times of the year and I
wanted to share with you allsome of the ways that you can
celebrate spring and welcomespring in and really get the
(00:50):
most out of this beautifulseason.
The spring equinox was on April20th, actually, and it's a time
when the day and night are thesame length, and before this the
night was longer, which issomething categorized of us
(01:14):
being in winter.
But April 20th was the firsttime in weeks, months, where the
day and the night are the samelength, and it's also from this
moment forward until the summersolstice that every day, our
(01:36):
days slowly get longer.
We have more sunlight.
We have those later sunsets, sospring is this time where we
are more in the light, and thespring equinox is also sometimes
known as Ostara.
(01:57):
For anyone that's listening, that may follow the wheel of the
year.
It's the official first day ofspring in the wheel of the year,
and Ostara is also a paganholiday.
Ostara is actually a goddess.
She is the goddess of fertilityand spring and she is
(02:23):
celebrated during the springequinox.
That's why they have the samename and in the old times what
they would do during thiscelebration, during the
celebration of Ostara, is theywould have a seasonal feast of
(02:45):
some sort and a fire, like abonfire, and everyone would be
there, everyone that was in thevillage.
It was like a communal thingand it would be to commemorate
her, the goddess Ostara, forincreasing light and the
fertility that comes with spring, which was also more food.
(03:08):
Right Back in the day, you know, winter was a time when it
would be a time of just deephibernation for everyone.
There was only so much foodthat you can eat right, there
was rations, things like that.
People would only venture outduring the daylight hours.
(03:29):
So Ostara was the initiation ofthem, for this new light, for
possibility, for more food, andit's still celebrated in many
parts all over the world.
And it's still celebrated inmany parts all over the world.
It's something that you can seestill more traditional
celebrations in what's nowIreland or Scotland or the UK,
(03:56):
but different cultures from allover celebrate this change in
the season as well, celebratethis change in the season as
well.
And I was in Japan just a fewdays ago and we happened to be
there for the spring equinox, and I didn't know until that day
actually, when our guide wasmentioning to us that it was a
(04:24):
national holiday and thateveryone has this holiday and
it's called the vernal equinoxand in Japanese it's called
shunbun no hi.
I believe I'm pronouncing thatcorrect and again, it's another
celebration for this beautifulchanging of the season, and for
(04:44):
them it marks the beginning ofmany things Of course, the
changing of the new season, butalso the initiation of sakura
season, which is the Japanesecherry blossom season in Japan.
And this is something thatpeople all over Japan look
(05:06):
forward to and anticipate as itgets closer and closer to spring
.
The cherry blossoms in Japan.
They actually only are in bloomfor a couple weeks at a time
throughout the whole year, whichis mostly typically April, but
(05:27):
most cherry blossoms will bloomfor two weeks and that's it
basically.
They won't bloom again tillnext year, and there's cherry
blossoms and plum trees all overJapan.
Japan's such a beautifulcountry, full of so much nature
(05:48):
and mountains and flowers.
So during the spring, duringApril, typically, you can just
see the cherry blossoms in fullbloom all over Japan, which is a
beautiful way to celebrate andenjoy the first few days of this
(06:11):
equinox and for this publicholiday, what the Japanese do,
it's really just a time tocelebrate their love of nature.
So most people will spend theday outside or in a garden,
somewhere immersed in nature.
They will also enjoy somecherry blossom treats, some plum
(06:36):
treats, treats that are onlyseasonal as well, because now
the cherry blossoms aren'tseasonal.
In Japan, you can find a lot ofcherry blossom flavored sweets
like mochi or ice cream orcookies, just about everything.
But right now you can reallyget the most of it, and on this
(07:01):
day, while we were there, it wasjust so amazing to see because
everyone is just sitting outsidein gardens or just walking
about in shrines and enjoyingthe sun and the first little
inklings of spring being there, the trees blooming, and I feel
(07:25):
like this time of year, thischange where we're slowly
getting into the warmer months,I feel like for a lot of people
throughout the world, this couldfeel more like the initiation
of a new year, and for peoplewho do follow the wheel of the
(07:49):
year.
This would be the start of anew year for them, but I feel
like for most of us it can bewhere we naturally have, or
begin to have, more energy afterthe winter, because the winter
is such a different feeling tothis.
(08:11):
It has such a different energy, and I feel like we're all kind
of just waking up after our ownslumber the last couple of
months, the last couple of weeks, and for me this feels most
aligned.
Actually, I take the first fewweeks of the year quite easy,
(08:32):
kind of dipping my toes into theenergy of the year, feeling it
out, recuperating after theholidays.
Just like the world around us,right Like half of the animals
are in hibernation, the treesare still sleeping, you know,
everything around us is so quietand still and asleep, and I
(08:55):
think a lot of us feel that waytoo, and with very good reason.
There's a lot of reasons forthat.
The decreased sunlight duringthe winter plays a big role in
that, but it's also just ournatural rhythms if we actually
pay attention to them.
And I wanted to share with yousome of the benefits of aligning
(09:19):
with the energy of the seasons, because right now we're getting
ready to welcome spring, andsoon summer will come, and then
autumn and then winter, and eachone of these seasons has
something different to offer us.
It has something different toteach us, to share with us, and
(09:41):
I feel like if we really enjoyedeach season for what it brought
, we would naturally feel likewe are more in flow with the
world around us.
It's about working with theenergy of the world around us
and not fighting it, becausesometimes it's like at the
beginning of the new year wemight have feel the need whether
(10:06):
that comes from our mind or theoutside world to start the year
off super strong and to do allof these things and to hit the
ground running, and that mightnot feel natural for many of us.
And if we look at the seasonsand align ourselves with the
(10:27):
seasons, we can see that that'snot exactly what's going on in
the world around us.
And if we could learn to workwith every season, that might
actually be more beneficial tous, because when we are in
spring or summer or fall, we aremaking the most out of those
(10:51):
seasons.
And this also allows you to seethat you are a cyclical being.
You are constantly changing andevolving, just as the seasons
do, just as the world around usis constantly changing and
evolving, you will also justnaturally become more in tune
(11:14):
with nature, which is never abad thing.
Nature has so much that itcould teach us.
It's something that we shouldhonestly pay attention more to.
I think that we have lost touchwith being more in tune with the
natural world and, like I wasmentioning this transition from
(11:38):
winter to spring, if we look atit, winter is more inward
focused energy, and this isperfect.
After the holidays, after allthe socializing, the partying,
the going out and doing this anddoing that, there's so much
going on from after Thanksgiving, basically, to right up to the
(12:02):
new year we're just going, going, going, and after the holidays,
I feel like everyone just wantsto stop, slow down, just be at
home a little bit more, not doas much.
And this is exactly what theworld around us is doing, what
(12:25):
nature is doing, what theanimals are doing.
They are getting ready to gointo a deep breath, to prepare
themselves for hibernation, andthat is something that we
naturally want to do as wellduring the winter months, and
(12:48):
winter is perfect for us to justbe for a while, to just rest,
to recuperate.
This is really a time forstillness, to release and to
contemplate.
It's a time for you to thinkabout everything that's happened
(13:11):
in the year so far and to kindof gather yourself for whatever
it is that you want for the yearto come.
So it's a very different energythat we're walking into now with
spring, because spring has thisfresh and vibrant energy.
(13:34):
It's a time when we're buildingback up after our deep rest.
To me it kind of actually feelslike a Monday, and I love
Mondays for some reason.
I don't know if it has anythingto do with the fact that I was
born on a Monday, but I love thestart of a new beginning, like
starting fresh.
(13:55):
And spring to me feels likethat, and it's a time for us to
begin again.
It's a time for new growth, foropportunity for renewal.
And if you pay attention againto the natural world just like
(14:16):
we can see it during the winter,of the little animals getting
ready to hibernate, the treeslosing all of their leaves
they're getting ready for a deepsleep too we can also see the
changes in the natural world forspring.
The flowers are slowly startingto bloom, the trees are
(14:39):
beginning to gain color again.
They're becoming vibrant, moregreen.
We're being gifted with morelight in our day.
It's a change that just happensright, and this energy that
spring brings it manifestswithin us during this time as
(15:01):
inspiration, a time fortransformation or rejuvenation.
This is an incredible time foryou to set new intentions, to
begin a new project, to watersomething that you have been
wanting to work on.
It's a time for you to plantnew seeds, some ways that you
(15:25):
can celebrate spring while it'shere, because it's going, gonna
keep going and eventually summerwill come.
But while spring is here, youcould go out for nature, walks,
just being outside as much aspossible, and I feel like we
(15:47):
just want to do that anyways, especially if you live in places
with a colder winter where, after the winter, all you want
to do is feel the sun on yourskin, or to just go outside.
If you haven't been able to gooutside as much, it's just
something that we want to do.
So on the days where it'swarmer, wherever you are, just
(16:10):
go outside, be with nature, listen to the leaves rustling,
go, look at the bees buzzing orthe flowers blooming.
It's just a time for you to beable to deeply connect with the
(16:31):
world around you.
You could also bring springinside.
There's lots of ways that youcan do this, but you could pick
some flowers and make your ownflower arrangement, or just buy
some flowers and have someflowers laying out around the
house.
Have some flowers laying outaround the house.
(16:57):
You could also create a springaltar with some spring flowers,
crystals, herbs.
The spring altar could alsowork if you want to celebrate
Ostara, which I mentioned at thebeginning of the episode, which
is the goddess of fertility.
She's the one being celebratedduring the spring equinox and
you can celebrate Ostara bycreating a spring altar.
(17:20):
You could also celebrate it bysharing a seasonal meal with
someone by lighting a candle.
It's a new light, new initiationright, new energy that we're
welcoming in and just givingthanks for the spring and all
(17:41):
that is to come, this beautifulseason.
It's really a time to just beeternally grateful for, you know
, the dark winter that was hereand the light that is upon us
once again.
It's also a perfect time foryou to detox in all aspects of
(18:01):
life.
This is about making space fora new energy, and you can do
this in so many different ways.
It can be physically, likedoing a sauna or lymphatic
drainage, to literally somethinglike spring cleaning.
(18:23):
That's why it's something thatwe hear a lot.
It's tied to spring becauseit's about removing clutter,
removing stagnant energy towelcome in new things.
So think about all thedifferent areas of your life
that you can detox.
What aspect of your life couldyou perhaps do a little detox on
(18:47):
?
Maybe it's mentally orspiritually or literally
cleaning out some aspect of yourspace, your home.
Now is the perfect time to dothat.
You could also eat some seasonalfoods.
Look at what is in season whereyou live right now.
(19:09):
In spring, it's going to belighter foods that are going to
be coming back into the markets, like asparagus, peas, fennel,
lemon greens, and play withspring flavors in the kitchen.
Bake a lemon loaf, make abeautiful salad with all the
(19:33):
beautiful lighter foods that youcan eat right now.
Like I mentioned before, settingnew intentions for the year
this seems more natural to methan doing it at the start of
the year.
This is actually when I feelmore inclined to set goals for
the year or intentions.
(19:55):
If I'm going to do it, and ifyou set goals at the start of
the year, this is a great timeto revisit them.
But, like I mentioned, this iskind of where we naturally feel
like we start having more energy.
The first couple weeks of theyear, the first couple of months
(20:17):
, really, we don't feel asenergized as we do throughout
other parts of the year, andit's because most of us need to
take a little bit of time afterthe year has started.
So, if setting goals at thebeginning of the year has never
(20:37):
really felt right for you, youshould play around with maybe
setting some intentions duringthe spring, because, again, this
is all about celebrating thenew possibilities, the
opportunity, so I wouldencourage you to give it a try.
If you never have, you couldalso start a new project, and
(20:58):
this could be a home project, maybe cleaning out a closet or
organizing something that youwanted to do, or a passion
project that you've been wantingto try or put your energy into.
This is a perfect time to startfocusing on that.
If you've been wanting to starta photography business,
(21:19):
thinking about all the ways thatyou can bring that into life
right now.
It's about making most out ofthis inspiration and
rejuvenating energy that'scoming through.
You could also plant someflowers or a tree to celebrate
(21:39):
the spring, and a beautiful waythat you can do this, if you
choose to do this, is toactually think about the
intentions or the project orjust anything that you are
planting for this year or thisseason.
While you plant the flowers andyou can put some seeds in the
(22:05):
soil and then you could waterthem and think about how you can
water those new seeds that youhave planted, not just literally
but also symbolically, usingthis ritual of planting the
seeds for you to also plant anyother seeds of intention for any
(22:32):
other aspect of life that youwant to plant this season.
I hope you guys enjoyed thislittle episode celebrating the
start of this beautiful season.
I would love to know if youhave your own rituals, that
perhaps you do things that youlove to do when spring comes
(22:56):
about.
Please share them with me ifyou do.
I hope that this inspires youto make the most out of the
wonderful energy that is herefor us to lean into if we want
to, because it really is such abeautiful time to start again,
(23:18):
to finally get some energy, somerigor.
If you feel like maybe thebeginning of the year you were
kind of just not full of energy, maybe leaning into this energy
a little bit more and justenjoying it and enjoying what
the season brings the food, theflowers, the light, the warmth,
(23:40):
the laughs, making the most ofit, because it really is such a
beautiful time of the year and Iam sending you all so much love
and light.
