Speaker 1 (00:04):
Hello everyone,
welcome to this week's episode.
I am so excited to have youhere with me today.
I am really excited to talkabout today's topic with you.
It's one that I wanted to touchon for some time now, and there
(00:24):
was just so many differentthings I wanted to say, so many
ways that it could be approached.
But we're going to be talkingabout creating financial
abundance for yourself, and thisis money, wealth, how we earn
money.
We're going to be talking aboutall of that today, and I'm
(00:48):
really excited because I feellike a lot of people can feel a
bit uncomfortable having theseconversations, especially with
people that they may know, orit's just something that we view
as more taboo and it becomes apart of our life or an aspect of
(01:09):
our life that we don't reallytalk about or express fully,
whether that's how we feel aboutmoney or wealth or us earning
money.
There can be a lot of shame here, and it really doesn't have to
be that way.
I know that when I grew up,money was something that it
(01:30):
wasn't talked about a whole lot,but when it was, it wasn't
positive.
There wasn't anything aboutmoney as I was growing up that
ever led me to believe thatmoney was a good thing.
That's just not what myenvironment poured into me and
we're going to look at that moredeeply today.
But it really doesn't have tobe that way.
(01:54):
You know, we could have thisvery comfortable conversation
about ourselves and how we feelabout earning wealth and the
kind of money and life that wewant in our lives.
And how we feel about earningwealth and the kind of money and
life that we want in our lives, and how we want to do that
right, the kind of work that wedo.
So all of these things are sonecessary because they're all
(02:15):
playing a role in how we stepinto the most abundant version
of us.
And I've talked about limitingbeliefs quite a bit in the last
few episodes and it's just areflection of again how these
things show up in our life andsometimes we're not even
(02:36):
conscious of it.
So if you've listened to theother episodes that I did on
that more recently of what'sreally blocking you from having
everything you want and speakingyourself well, which I will
link down below if you want tolisten to those, we're going to
be looking at again how ourbeliefs create our reality.
(02:57):
But when it comes to this fearof money, abundance, wealth, all
of those things.
So we're gonna be looking atanother bucket of our life where
these limiting beliefs show up,and the first thing that we
need to do is let go of anystories that we have about
(03:17):
earning or having money, becausethey limit us and they are not
true.
These are thoughts that we haveeither heard, played time and
time again or seen in ourenvironment that became our
truth, but, like I've mentionedbefore, any thought can be
(03:40):
challenged and changed.
It's up to us to choosesomething different.
Some common limiting beliefsthat we may have about money is
that money doesn't buy happiness.
Money is scarce.
You have to work hard for money.
This idea that it's difficultto acquire wealth, or this
(04:03):
belief that it's extremely hardto make money and you have to
sacrifice a lot in order to berich.
I am unworthy of money.
It's a very common one too.
This is a lack of self-worth.
A lot of people also grow uphearing more money, more
problems, that money is evil orunnecessary, and they grow up
(04:28):
feeling like it's a root of allevil, or they have just a
negative frequency, a negativeconnotation towards money.
You might have heard havingmoney is selfish.
This is tied to the belief thatrich people are bad, selfish.
This is tied to the belief thatrich people are bad.
Maybe if you grew up in a morehumble family or in a more
(04:49):
religious background too, thismight have been one that you
heard growing up, and this fearcan limit people from really
stepping into striving to makewealth for themselves or
creating wealth for themselves, because of the fear that it will
change them.
There's also the fear of loss.
(05:10):
A lot of people fear losingmoney if they acquire it, so
that's another very common fearand one that can be harder to
pinpoint sometimes, especiallyif it's ourselves that's doing
this is we have a fixed beliefwhen it comes to our income and
(05:32):
our earning potential, so webelieve that our financial
situation is unchangeable andthat we might not be able to
earn more.
Maybe it's because you work anine to five job and you've been
doing that for years, and maybeyou even work on the side a
little bit, and you only have somany hours in the day, and for
(05:55):
you, the only way to increaseyour wealth might be to work
more hours or to increase yourhourly rate, but there's
actually other ways of creatingwealth that doesn't require any
of that, but most people don'tknow that.
So a lot of people who are onfixed incomes have a limited
(06:16):
view that their financialsituation is not changeable, and
these beliefs come from a lotof places.
I'm curious, like as you werelistening to this, if there was
any person, situation, thingthat came to mind specifically
of, maybe, where that beliefcame from for you.
(06:40):
For some people, this might bevery crystal clear.
Maybe it could have been mom ordad or an uncle or someone else
, saying these things very blackand white, or, indirectly,
through their actions, theycreated this environment where
some of these beliefs might havefelt were ever present, but for
(07:04):
others, trying to pinpoint thismight be a little bit harder.
But most of the time these arethings that we took away from
our upbringing, whether weremember them or not, and for
some of us they can begenerational traumas that we
were meant to break through.
We didn't choose them, but wehave the choice for something
(07:30):
better once we know better, because when we're young we are
a sponge to everything around us.
It doesn't do us any good toblame the people in our lives
for putting us in a scarcitymindset or all of those things,
but it's up to us to choosesomething better once we know
(07:51):
better, and that's what I'mhoping this episode will
highlight for you.
Maybe you've done some work inthis area of your life already.
Maybe you never have, that'sokay.
This episode is going to giveyou an idea of where you can
start and where you can look at,and my biggest limiting belief
(08:12):
when it came to money was that Ihave to work hard to earn money
.
Others have definitely showedup throughout my life, for sure,
but the idea that I have towork myself to death in order to
create the life that I want tohave has been ingrained in me
(08:36):
since I was a child, and it hasto do with my upbringing.
You know I've talked about thatin other episodes, I've shared
tidbits here and there, but mymom was always struggling.
My parents were immigrants inthis country, so I'm a
first-generation American and Ifeel like a lot of people who
(08:59):
are immigrants may struggle withthis mentality too, but it's
the idea that you always have tostruggle to make ends meet.
You know, and in my culture, you know my background, with me
being Mexican.
My country is very hardworking.
My people are very hardworking.
They are always going to find away to make it work.
(09:21):
Mexico is not an easy place tolive.
That's why a lot of people cometo this country.
But it's this idea that you knowwe have to work forever for the
rest of our lives, even if itis doing crap jobs or jobs that
don't pay well or all of theseother things.
But the constant in all of thisis that you have to work hard,
(09:44):
that you have to sacrifice, youknow, sleep, your health, your
well-being in order to be okay.
And it's something that Istarted doing very young as well
, not necessarily by choice, because I started working very
young to provide for myself.
My mom wasn't able to providefor me at a very young age, so I
(10:08):
started working basicallyfull-time when I was 15, and
I've always just worked.
That was always going to bewhat got me out of where I was,
and I grew up in poverty, so Inever wanted to be where I had
been.
You know I worked very hard forthat, but that's still very
(10:32):
much something that I work on,like this belief.
I've done a lot of work on this, but it was something honestly
too, and the more that I grow, that I get older and have
different conversations withpeople as well, I realized how
much other people did not growup like this, and that's more
(10:53):
evident to me than ever.
But it wasn't always the case, you know, and it's also, I think
, because our culture justpraises hard work and discipline
and working yourself to deathand all of those other things
which I, you know, have sharedmy thoughts on that in another
(11:13):
episode.
So I feel like it wasn't justmy family or, you know, my
upbringing, but it's also justthe country that I live in.
But I slowly had an evolutionwith this.
This did not happen quickly, but it really started when I
started working in real estate, when I decided to take a step
(11:35):
back from my ideal of workinghard, which was very difficult
for me.
It was a very scary step, andwhen I first started my real
estate career, I was workingfully for myself, so I had full
autonomy over my schedule andthings like that, and I had
(11:56):
always, always, always workedsuper long hours.
I had a full-time job and apart-time job most of my life
and sometimes another job, somost weeks I would work 50 to 60
hours a week.
I did that for years.
So when I started doing realestate, I thought I would just
take a little bit of a step backand again, it was my internal
(12:22):
belief.
It was.
My truth is that working hardand long hours was what I needed
to do to be successful, and Iwas also starting a new career
and I really needed this to workas well.
There was a lot on the line atthe time.
So I really wanted to succeedin my career and I did take a
(12:45):
step back and when I startedworking full-time in real estate
and I let go of a full-time jobthat I had and I was doing real
estate part-time at the time Ifocused wholeheartedly on real
estate and again, I didn't havea backup plan.
(13:07):
I didn't have family oranything to fall back on.
So if this didn't work, it wasnot going to be a great
situation.
And that's really where thisneed of like okay, I have to
make it work, and this was alsokind of all around me as well.
(13:28):
It's like, even on my team andjust in the entrepreneur space
especially, there's a very toxicmasculine productivity that
there is a certain way to create, way to create and I'm going to
be expanding on all of this inanother episode to come but this
(13:55):
is not the only way to functionin the world, and I've shared
that before, but there isactually a path that is more
easeful and pleasurable.
I never knew that until aboutthis age and until I decided to
take a step towards that path, but prior to this I never knew
that there was what theBuddhists called the path of
(14:16):
least resistance.
I never knew that that was evenan option.
So a few months passed really afew years passed with my real
estate career and I did haveautonomy over my life compared
to working a full-time job andworking part-time doing real
(14:37):
estate.
But I wanted even more freedom, and that came about two or
three years in.
I wanted to have even morepower over my life and to have
even more freedom to move and dowhat I wanted to do, and for
the last 10 years I had been aslave to my work, like I shared.
(15:00):
But at this point I wanted totravel more, and which is
something that I never reallyhad the chance to do when I was
younger, and now I had theability to do it, the means to
do it.
I wanted to sleep more.
This was a huge change for me,because up until this point, for
(15:20):
the last about eight years, Ionly slept about five or six
hours a night.
This was my normal.
I wanted to take care of myselfbetter and have time to do
other things that I never hadtime to do, like little hobbies,
things for fun, things.
I stopped doing.
I just didn't have time to doanything that I actually wanted
(15:43):
to do.
I was just constantly working.
So that came about two yearsinto me being in real estate
full-time, and this was a hugechange for me, because up until
that point, all I had everthought about doing was working
to survive, and every decision Ihad ever made up until that
point was to work as much as Ipossibly could physically in
(16:07):
order to be okay.
That was my biggest reason tokeep going and a huge reason for
this change, or a hugeinspiration for this change
other than me just gaining alittle knowledge was really my
husband, and watching him have asuccessful career and how he
(16:30):
approached it was so differentto my idea of how it needed to
be.
We were just dating at the time, but him beginning to open
himself up to the life that heled and different things like
that, and us just sharing ourlife together.
I began to see that there wasactually another way to do this,
(16:51):
and he worked a few hours everyday and not some crazy amount
of output that I believe wasneeded to have a thriving
business.
So I started learning aboutbeing intentional with what I
was doing and my time, aboutfocusing more on doing less but
(17:15):
doing it right.
This is around the time that Istarted learning about the
four-hour work week as well, byTim Ferris, and he talks a lot
about this as well, about youknow how to have this flexible
work and to be able to work fromanywhere and automate and, you
(17:37):
know, have this business thatgives you this freedom.
At the time, I was also readingbooks by Rhonda Byrne, which, if
you guys know Rhonda Byrne, youprobably know her most popular
book, which is the Secret, and Iread the Secret for the first
time many, many years ago.
But at the time I was readingher other books too the Power
(18:00):
and all of that jazz, and I waslearning about doing things
intentionally and alsomanifesting and creating slowly.
So when I did have time, I wasreading a bunch of nonfiction
learning how to do things better, to be a more productive human,
(18:21):
to, you know, succeed more inmy business and all of these
other things.
So these were some of the booksthat I was reading at the time
that also inspired this growththat I started going through.
Rhonda Byrne's books have beenone of my favorites.
I know a lot of people talkabout the Secret and if you have
(18:42):
read it then you'll know thatit's the little gem of a book as
well.
But if you never have, I meanshe talks about the law of
attraction and she was also oneof the first people that I came
across whose knowledge Iabsorbed, that just discuss that
you don't have to work hard ordo things difficultly.
(19:09):
But it was really one of thefirst times that I think I
really started absorbing it at adeeper level and started
wanting to apply it more thanever.
And I had already read it whenI was younger, so I think
reading it this time aroundreally just opened me up to
(19:30):
being ready to actually applythis.
But I was beginning tounderstand that what I wanted to
attract if that was more ease, you know, not working as much or
just more financial abundancewhile I was doing less that it
would be inevitable, and we hearso much.
(19:53):
You know in the manifestationworld the law of attraction, but
there's also the law ofassumption.
That is very key and if youhave never heard of the law of
attraction, it's essentiallythat our thoughts attract
similar thoughts.
So positive or negativethoughts bring about either
(20:13):
positive or negative experiences.
You hear it a lot described aslikes attracts like.
So if you clearly define whatyou want and you have the
certainty and the belief thatyour desires will be attained
(20:34):
and you embody the emotions andthe mindset of someone who has
whatever it is that you'retrying to attract, then it will
come into your life.
So you have to be in thefrequency to attract whatever it
is that you want, and ourthoughts play a key role in that
(20:54):
.
And the law of assumption isthat by being in a certain state
of being and living from thisplace of you knowing again that
your desires and everything thatyou want can manifest into the
physical reality, this is youacting and behaving as if it's
(21:19):
already happened.
Instead of just wishing orhoping, you are living every day
like it's already happened, every day like it's already
happened.
And the key here is thateverything that you do, every
(21:40):
action that you take, iscorrectly aligned with the right
energy that we want to call in.
So it's not performing from aplace of lack, but by doing less
and doing it with intention, wecan have more of an impact than
working eight or nine hour days.
Essentially, this was somethingthat didn't just happen right
away with me.
It was a slow, slow bloom andyou have to stay devoted to
(22:05):
these beliefs.
If you are trying to cultivatenew beliefs around money, you
have to know that it's not goingto change immediately.
But you need to stay devoted towhatever those new beliefs are
and your new reality will slowlyreflect that.
And for myself, with these newbeliefs and intentions that I
(22:28):
had in mind, I started workingless.
I was intentional about what Iwas doing.
I started working an average offive hours a day.
I was traveling quite a bit andmy income continued to grow,
and within a few months andwithin a few months I was
earning six figures with ease, and I continued to do that.
(22:52):
I was able to maintain thatuntil I decided to leave real
estate, and when I left realestate, a few years later, I was
probably even working closer tofour hours a day.
It was even less.
But I want us to really focus onnoticing what's blocking us and
(23:14):
looking through, hearing backat the beliefs that I went
through earlier in this episodeand you want to go through the
same process that I discussed inthe last limiting beliefs
episode of what's reallyblocking you, and you're going
to identify, challenge andreplace it with a new one.
You're going to identify whatthis limiting belief is, how it
(23:37):
shows up in your life and, asyou were listening to the list
above, you probably felt yourbelief come to life.
You're probably like yes, thatis what spends too much time in
my head and you're going tospend some time challenging that
you can do this in your mind, you can do this in a journal,
(23:57):
you can have a conversation withyourself.
But why is this your truth?
Why have you chosen it as yourtruth?
You need to get clear on that, because that will allow you to
make peace with it.
By doing that, you're going tobegin to understand that that's
actually not true.
Or, if you believe that to betrue, why can't anything else
(24:21):
that you choose to believe betrue?
And that's where our last stepwith this is to replace it with
a new one.
Choose a new belief for yourself.
If your belief was, like mine, that you need to work hard, you
know, to earn a living, tocreate the kind of wealth that
you want to create the kind oflife that you want.
(24:42):
Make it your fundamental belief.
Know in your body, in yourheart, in your soul, with
certainty, that you can createthe life that you want, with
ease, with flow, by letting go,by doing less and doing more of
(25:02):
the right thing, and letyourself constantly come back to
this new belief.
You need to become familiarwith it.
My biggest reason for thisepisode is, well, all of these
episodes.
I really don't want thesethoughts to inhibit you from
receiving the abundance that youare meant for in this life.
(25:25):
It breaks my heart to see somany people limit themselves,
knowingly and unknowinglysometimes, but there is no need
for that, and if you'relistening to this podcast, you
have some kind of growth mindset.
So, even if you have a limitingbelief about money, you're more
open than others to this work, but there is no reason why you
(25:49):
can't have another life If youwant to have more money, if you
want to have a certain lifestyle, if you want certain things in
your life.
There is no reason why any ofthis can't happen for you.
I also wanted to share otherlittle tools in my toolbox that
(26:10):
helped me replace my old beliefwith this new story and also
just helped me expand into thisabundance mindset, because for
me it was like a twofold thing.
It was working on my limitingbelief that I had to work a
certain amount in order to havea certain life, but also the
(26:34):
belief that or not being as open, or not being able to see other
possibilities when it came intowhat was possible, so being
able to see other ways thatpeople lived in a state of
abundance.
So one of the very helpfulthings for me was therapy, and
(26:57):
therapy helped me work on mymindset in general, but it
really helped me kind of put thepieces together of how so many
of my limiting beliefs showed upin other aspects of my life,
places that I didn't evenrealize were connected and it's
something for us to be aware ofis that this belief that you
(27:21):
have around money shows upoutside of just money or
abundance or making money.
If you take a step back, youwill be able to see how it
manifests in other areas of yourlife, and I encourage you to
take a moment to do that, toactually notice where that could
(27:42):
be happening.
The other thing that I still doand still use is activations.
I have talked about this app onother podcast episodes, but
activations are essentiallyvisualizations, and what they
help you do is get into thefeeling of feelings, whatever it
(28:08):
is that you're trying to callinto your life.
So, whether it is with money, with health or all of these
things, in this case we'retalking about money, and the app
has so many amazingvisualizations for you to work
through any beliefs that youmight be working through, but
(28:28):
also for you to really tune intowhat it feels for you to be
abundant.
What does that feel like foryou to be a wealthy person, for
you to attract money and successand all of these other things.
It's an incredible app and ithas been so pivotal for my
(28:49):
journey with this in so manyways, so I'm going to link that
app below if you want to checkit out.
And there are, of course, a fewbooks that I want to share with
you.
There's so many and you canfind so many books on this, but
I'm just going to share some ofthe key ones, but for me, one of
(29:12):
them was the Seven SpiritualLaws by Deepak Chopra.
He talks about the law ofassumption and some of the other
laws in his book.
It is so great if you want toapproach this from a more
spiritual place.
I already mentioned the Secret, but all of Rhonda Byrne's books
(29:33):
are wonderful as well the Power, the Magic.
Another one that was superhelpful with in regards to being
more intentional with what Iwas doing outside of the
four-hour work week, which Imentioned by Tim Ferriss, was Do
Less by Kate Northrup, and Imentioned this book in so many
(29:59):
episodes, but it really it's oneof those books that you should
just have for the rest of yourlife because it can be used in
almost any aspect of life.
But if you have heard my otherepisodes, you know I love this
book.
It's you Can Heal your Life byLouise Hay.
She touches on money in thisbook, like she basically touches
(30:21):
on everything, but she toucheson money and our limiting
beliefs around money and how thepower is within us.
One of the things that helped meexpand my ideal of what
abundance can look like and belike was surrounding myself with
expansive people, people whohad wealth, people who had
(30:45):
freedom, the life that I wantedto lead, something similar along
to what I'm trying to create inthe world, just simply exposing
myself to other ways of lifeand other ways of approaching
money as well, because evenwealthy people have very
different ideals and ways thatthey approach money Journaling.
(31:08):
It's an incredible tool forself-reflection, which is so key
if you're trying to create newideals for yourself.
Just writing it out withyourself that can help you gain
a deeper understanding of whatis running through your mind,
and seeing it on paper can justhelp you see it that much more
(31:31):
clearly.
And the last thing was, honestly, just devotion to this
new reality that I chose tocreate for myself.
Like I mentioned, it did nothappen overnight and you need to
continue to carry on with it,even if it's not there yet, even
if, when you wake up every dayand your life is not what you
(31:53):
want it to be, you need to staydevoted to it.
But to end, remember that yourbeliefs shape your bank account.
All of these small beliefs thatwe don't even know make up our
psyche can affect how muchabundance we choose to let into
our life.
(32:13):
And at any moment in time, youcan choose to have a new
relationship with money and youcan choose to embody that every
single day.
And it's a small devotion toyourself and remember that you
are allowed to thrive in thislife.
You are allowed to have anabundance of whatever it is that
(32:36):
you want.
Maybe money doesn't evenmotivate you, maybe money isn't
even a thing, but we all need acertain amount of money to be
comfortable in life, whateverthat looks like for us, whatever
we aspire to have in life, butto get out of the idea that
we're just working to survive.
(32:57):
We're meant to live well whilewe're here on this earth, to
enjoy our ride, to love deeply,to receive abundance without any
guilt or shame.
And this work, if you have notdone it before, is going to be
super healing for you.
It's going to bring up a lot offeelings regarding your
(33:21):
self-worth, your identity, yourprogramming, and just be gentle
with yourself and stay devotedto continuing to learn and be
curious about what comes up.
And this doesn't mean that, ifyou have done work on this, that
your limiting belief might notever show up again, again.
(33:55):
In time it will probably not bethere anymore, but every time
that you iterate a new belief, you are choosing to replace it
with a new one, a new reality.
One day, that will be yourtruth, just like sometimes this
shows up for you in your lifeevery day.
One day, you will just knowthat this is my new truth.
This is my new reality.
When it comes to money and staydevoted to it, I believe in all
(34:22):
of our potential, our rising, our ability to just have this
beautiful life if we choose tohave it.
Like I mentioned, maybe it'snot money, but maybe it's having
a certain life, having acertain lifestyle, having a
certain amount of freedom, justnot having to worry about
certain things.
This all ties into abundance.
(34:42):
You know our version of that, and for some of us, money might
be part of that.
For others it might not.
It might be an abundance offreedom, an abundance of love,
an abundance of connection.
You know, an abundance ofwhatever we want.
I'm going to link down below allof the episodes that I
(35:04):
referenced and all the booksthat I mentioned as well, if you
want to check any of those out.
I hope this episode gave yousomething to muddle over, or
maybe it felt it gave you someinspiration or a newfound vigor
for you to work on these aspectsof your life so that you can go
(35:28):
and have the life that you want.
We're all capable and worthy ofthat.
I look forward to talking toyou all in my next episode.
I am sending you a big hugUntil then.
