Speaker 1 (00:03):
Hi, loves, welcome to the Journey to the Soul podcast
.
I am your host, jacinda Villa,a spiritual life coach and
holistic health coach.
Every week, we will be divingdeep into all things purpose,
wellness, spirituality andcreating the life that you dream
of.
This space is meant to be safeand transformative for you to

(00:26):
dive into the deepest parts ofyourself.
I will share what I havelearned from my journey along
this path years of research andmentors along the way.
Having spent many years livinglife out of alignment and afraid
to go after my dreams, I knowfirsthand what it means to take
the first step down, living alife authentic to you.

(00:47):
We are on this road ofself-discovery together.
It is time for you to live thelife you imagined.
Hello, my loves, welcome toanother week here at Journey to
the Soul, another podcast.
I hope you are all having abeautiful day, wherever it is

(01:10):
you are tuning in from.
This week's episode is actuallygoing to be tying in to the
episode that I uploaded twoweeks ago, which was about
getting out of your comfort zoneand pushing yourself to just go
live that life that you wantfor yourself, that you intend to

(01:32):
have for yourself, and wetalked about how to go about
doing that, and this kind ofsupports that a little bit,
because once we have clarityover what it is that we want and
we have the conviction and thedevotion to go and start
creating that life for ourselves, it could require some change

(01:55):
in our life, right Us choosingto make different decisions that
are more aligned with the lifethat we envision for ourselves.
More aligned with the life thatwe envision for ourselves.
And it could also be supersupportive to have people in
your life who also expand youand are living a similar life to

(02:16):
the life that you want.
And that's what we're going tobe talking about today is having
expanders in your life.
Talking about today is havingexpanders in your life, mentors
of some kind, people that canhelp you as you stay devoted to
your path.
And there's two reasons that wecould want to have mentors, and

(02:37):
one of them is just havingsomeone who is living that life
that you want to live, who hasthat lifestyle that you want to
have.
The relationships that theyhave is something that you
aspire to have.
Maybe they're making a certainamount of money or they have a
certain kind of family.

(02:58):
Expanders are there to show youwhat is possible.
It's people that are being amirror for you to show you the
many opportunities and optionsthat are available to you in
your life, because the life thatyou are living now is not the
only option that you have, andthat's what we talked about in

(03:20):
the last episode, right.
So having expanders in yourlife is so important because,
especially when you startpushing yourself out of your
comfort zone, you might not haveanyone in your day-to-day life
that actually is doing what itis you want to do, or having the

(03:40):
life that you desire to have,or making the amount of money
that you aspire to have.
And this is where mentors, expanders, mirrors, are going to
be super key to your journey.
And it's about knowing that, whatever it is that you are
striving for, that clarity thatyou gained when we talked about

(04:03):
it in the last episode, right,of pushing yourself to go create
that life that you want foryourself, knowing that that is
possible for you, because it is.
That's the truth.
That is black and white.
Each one of us comes withchoices in our life, and we have
a choice to go create thatextraordinary life for ourselves

(04:25):
in our life.
And we have a choice to gocreate that extraordinary life
for ourselves and sometimes wejust need support, we need
inspiration, we need, you know, just some kind of hug as we go
through this journey in life, and that's where these mentors
come in.
And mentors could be people youknow in person.
It could be a friend, it couldbe an acquaintance, a friend of

(04:49):
a friend, someone that you knowthat has a similar business to
what you want to have.
Maybe they have a photographybusiness and you've been wanting
to start your own photographybusiness, or they have their own
company selling candles and youwant to do something similar.
It could also be people thatyou don't know at all, because

(05:13):
it's very much possible that thepeople in your life you know,
your circle, the people that youknow in your day to day, it's
very possible that they may notbe people that you aspire to be
or you aspire to have a certainlife to them.
So you know, it could be SteveJobs, can be one of the people

(05:34):
that expand you, it can be ElonMusk, it could be Oprah Winfrey,
anyone that really justinspires you, that really just
inspires you, that just shattersyour ceiling and your roof of
what is possible in the realm,of what it is you want to do or
the life that you want to lead.

(05:54):
These are going to be yourexpanders.
So I invite you, after thisepisode, to kind of take some
time and think about who in yourlife that you may know, or
someone in your life may knowcould be someone that is an
expander for you, or it could bejust someone that you already

(06:18):
aspire to be like in our moremainstream culture.
Like I mentioned, it could bean entrepreneur, it could be a
philanthropist, it could beanyone the president of the
United States, I mean whoeveryou want, whoever inspires you.
It could also be people thatmight not be alive, and this is

(06:40):
also how what we're talkingabout.
It doesn't need to be someonethat you know in person.
Your expander could also besomeone who has passed.
It could be Pablo Picasso, itcould be Audrey Hepburn, it
could be Coco Chanel, whoever itis that just piques your
interest, that gives you thatvisceral yes of some kind.

(07:03):
That is probably going to beyour answer.
So, after this episode, takesome time and just write about
it, think about it, ponder aboutwho in your life is someone
that could be just so expansivefor where you are in your life
and where you want to go.

(07:24):
The next step of that.
So it's just a great littlething to know, because these
people are going to really helpyou get to the next step of your
life.
The other reason we want tohave mentors or expanders or

(07:46):
mirrors is that it allows you tostay focused on what it is you
are really working toward inyour life.
We've already establishedclarity on what those things are
.
We've already established thatin order for you to have that
life, you need to get out ofyour comfort zone, and having

(08:09):
mentors expanders they're goingto continue to help you get out
of that comfort zone andcontinue to take aligned action
that is supportive of the lifethat you have.
But the other thing is that thispath, when you start walking a
different path, living adifferent life that is very

(08:31):
different than the people allaround you, it can be quite
lonely.
It could be helpful to havepeople who are value similar
things and are working towards asimilar change in their life,
but that might not be possiblefor everyone.
So these mentors also allow youto stay focused on what it is

(08:54):
you are working on.
It keeps the end in mind foryou.
It allows your eye to stayfocused on the long run.
Right.
It's like what is the light atthe end of the tunnel.
What is all of this for?
And again, this is so helpful, especially when, every single
day, we might not have anyone inour life that is wanting to

(09:18):
create a better life forthemselves.
That can be very hard.
That's when it can be extrahard to remember to stay the
course that we're on and devotedto our path, to our evolution,
to our becoming.
Once you have a mentoridentified for you, find ways
that you can work with them.

(09:40):
If this is someone that youknow, someone in person, an
acquaintance, if they doone-on-one coaching, if they
teach any courses, retreats, anyway that you can just be more
intimate with them, you can meetthem for coffee.
You can shadow them in personfor coffee.

(10:02):
You can shadow them in person, read books that they have
written.
This also, of course, appliesto people who you may not know
in person.
So you know, if again, we'reusing Oprah as an example here
If Oprah is someone thatinspires you and you want to be
more aligned with that way oflife and her values and the life

(10:25):
that she leads and she is yourexpander, read her books, find a
way to work with her and to bein her state of mind, her state
of being, how she works, how shefunctions, more intimately.
So this is going to bedifferent for all of us, right?
If you're an artist and youknow your expander is again

(10:50):
Pablo Picasso, this might looklike spending more time
observing his art, being more inthat realm, in the energy of
that piece of art, and studyingit and all of those other things
.
And we can have mirrors, mentors for different aspects of

(11:12):
life.
It's very possible that theremight be one person that comes
to mind for you and it's like no, this is my expander, this is
what I'm working towards, thisis my inspiration for the life
that I am trying to create.
But it's also very possible foryou to have two or three
different expanders that kind ofhave different energy and have

(11:39):
slightly just different valuesand a different lifestyle, have
slightly just different valuesand a different lifestyle, but
that embody certain things thatyou want to embody or have in
your life in different realms.
So that can be true for some ofus.
I remember when I first wantedto just have a different life,

(12:03):
when I was much younger andstarted my self-development
journey, I really had no one inmy life that I knew personally,
who had the life that Ienvisioned, who had the kind of
success that I had, who wantedthe kinds of things that I
wanted, who valued the samethings.

(12:25):
So when I first started myjourney, I really just read
about the people that reallyinterested me.
I read about whatever it isthat they shared, people that
inspired me.
I really had to look outside ofmy circle, outside of just my

(12:47):
everyday life, to have someoneshow me what was possible,
because my realm of what waspossible when I was younger and
we all go through this wecontinuously break through our
reality of what is possible, right, I've talked about that in
another podcast episode, howwe're constantly expanding our

(13:12):
reality, our perspective of whatis possible.
And I remember when I firstwent through this that I can
actually remember I was probablyin college and I just didn't
have anyone in my life that wasreally doing what I wanted to do

(13:34):
or living the life that Iwanted.
And I know that I've alsoshared before that I've kind of
always had a pretty strong senseof what it is that I want in
life, like from the more macrosense, like in the greater sense
.
But those desires, those wants, have evolved over time as I

(13:56):
have evolved, but when I firststarted, it was so pivotal to my
growth for me to actually seekoutside of my everyday life to
find people that could show mewhat was possible in all of
these different ways, and I'vegone through so many evolutions

(14:17):
of this.
Now, when I think back to it, Ithink about you know the
different times in my life wherethis has happened.
When I decided to start workingfull-time as an entrepreneur
for myself five or six years ago, that was a big thing for me,

(14:38):
leaving my 9-to-5 job andchoosing to have more freedom in
my life.
When I also wanted to make moremoney by working less.
This was also just aself-limiting belief that I had
about having to work more andhard in order to make more money

(15:00):
, and that is, of course, nottrue, but I remember that when I
went into my business full-time, I didn't want to.
After a few years, I wanted towork smarter, not harder, and
that was another evolution whereI looked for expanders.
I started reading and learningabout different people who had

(15:24):
done this.
When I wanted more freedom inmy life, even more than when I
left my job.
When I wanted to travel andreally have total autonomy over
my life.
Again, I sought out people whocould show me what was possible
and how I could apply that in mylife, and for me, this has

(15:45):
looked like, of course, like Isaid, reading books.
It's looked like taking courses.
It's looked like talking tothem one-on-one, picking their
brain.
It's looked like retreats.
It's looked like so manydifferent things, because those
people are truly going to be sosupportive as you go through

(16:08):
your evolution in life, and thisis going to be ever-changing,
just as you are ever-changing.
But it's so important for us toknow what is possible for us,
especially if we have anupbringing that was maybe a
little bit more sheltered orthere was a lot of scarcity

(16:34):
around certain things, and youmaybe didn't have the easiest
upbringing.
But also just for anyone, right?
Any single one of us.
There is a quote by IsaacNewton and it says if I have
seen further, it is by standingon the shoulders of giants, and

(17:09):
essentially, this is justtelling us that new ideas, new
works, new inspirations arebuilt from the people who came
before us, and these are ourmentors, these are our mirrors,
right?
It's people that have done thethings that we've wanted to do,
and this is how we are going toget better.
Like Isaac Newton isessentially saying that he
wouldn't have been as great ashe would have been, because we

(17:32):
could all attest that he wastruly an outlier when it came to
science and all of these otherthings during his time.
But he would never have beenable to do that if it hadn't
been to the teachings and thesupport and the knowledge of the
people who did what he wasdoing before him, and he was

(17:54):
just able to take all of that inand take it even to the next
level, to expand on that.
And that is what this isinviting you to do, because you
are so capable of creatingwhatever life that you want.
Sometimes it can be so hard tostay rooted in that, when

(18:14):
there's no one in your life whois devoted to that as much as
you are, is devoted to that asmuch as you are.
But knowing that there arepeople who A want to support you
on your life path and who loveseeing other people rise, there
are people who love to bringother people with them as they

(18:35):
continuously go through thisjourney of life, it's about you
know saying, hey, this is whatI've learned so far.
Maybe this will make yourjourney a little bit better, and
that's what these mentors arehere to do.
That's what so many of themwant to do the mirrors in your
life.
Some of the most inspirationalpeople are so inspirational for

(18:56):
a reason they want to share thatknowledge.
They want to share that lightbecause by sharing it, it just
expands other people and you, choosing to expand yourself and
go through and do the lifethat's meant for you, you will

(19:16):
also be an expander and a mirrorfor people in your life of what
is possible.
So this has a domino effect.
This is so much greater thanjust yourself.
I hope you all enjoyed thisepisode.
I look forward to talking toyou all in my next episode.

(19:39):
I am sending you a big hug andso much love and light until
then.
