Speaker 2 (00:28):
Hello everyone and
thank you for joining us on this
new episode of the podcast Joyin this Journey.
I hope you're having a veryblessed day, depending on the
time you're listening to us, andtoday we will be reading in
Hebrews, chapter 7, verses 22 to28.
We read in the name of theFather, the Son and the Holy
(00:51):
Spirit.
By so much more, jesus hasbecome a surety of a better
covenant.
Also, there were many priests, because they were prevented by
death from continuing, but he,because he continues forever,
has an unchangeable priesthood.
Therefore, he is also able tosave to the uttermost those who
(01:15):
come to God through him, sincehe always lives to make
intercession for them.
For such a high priest wasfitting for us, who is holy,
harmless, undefiled, separatefrom sinners and has become
higher than the heavens, whodoes not need daily, at those
(01:37):
high priests, to offer upsacrifices, first for his own
sins and then for the people's.
For this he did once for allwhen he offered up himself.
For the law appoints as highpriest men who have weaknesses,
but the word of the oath whichcame after the law appoints the
(01:58):
son who has been perfectedforever.
Meditating on these verses, godwas ministering my life on how
Jesus already did it all.
In this chapter of the book ofHebrews, god tells us that Jesus
was made a surety of a bettercovenant, a covenant without the
(02:20):
need for animal sacrifice tojustify our sins, a covenant
where we all have access to Godwhenever we want, not just once
a year and not just one person, but all those who come to God
through him.
The Old Testament and the lawsof the Old Covenant show us that
(02:41):
we have fallen short before Godand that, no matter how much we
try to become righteous on ourown, we will not be able to.
The main purpose of the law wasto reveal God's standards and
to show that we alone could notreach God.
Verses 24 to 25 says that hehas an unchangeable priesthood.
(03:06):
This means that it remains thesame yesterday, today and
forever.
Not only this, but he's alsoable to save anyone who comes to
God through him.
Everything that could not beachieved through the old
covenant Jesus did.
The good thing is that this hasnothing to do with us or what I
(03:30):
have done or what I will do,but it's only through him and
for him, something that, even onthese days, is difficult to
accept, and we can be led tobelieve that because we do
certain things for God we can bemore saved than others.
But the truth is that Jesus didit all.
(03:52):
Understanding this can lift theheavy weight off our shoulders
If we let the Holy Spirit helpus realize that we are accepted
before God through Jesus and notthrough our works.
In other words, that what youand I do or we would do does not
(04:13):
change the fact that Jesus diedon the cross and paid for our
sins.
Ephesians, chapter 2, verses 8to 9, says For by grace you have
been saved through faith andnot of yourselves.
It is the gift of God, not ofworks, lest anyone shall bust.
(04:34):
And Romans 3 26 says todemonstrate at the present time
his righteousness, that he mightbe just and the justifier of
the one.
The essence of the gospel isaccepting what Jesus did on the
cross through his death andresurrection, and not only that,
(04:59):
but also what he wants to doevery day through his Holy
Spirit in our lives.
He's the one who changes andtransforms our life.
God tells us that he searchesand purifies us through his word
.
Hebrews, chapter 4, 12-13 saysFor the word of God is living
(05:21):
and powerful and sharper thanany two-edged sword person, even
to the division of soul andspirit and of joints and marrow,
and is a discerner of thethoughts and intents of the
heart, and there is no creaturehidden from his sight, but all
(05:42):
things are naked and open to theeyes of him, who we must give
account.
Through spending time with Godin intimacy, we are changed, and
not because this will add ortake away what Jesus has already
done, but because it isbeneficial to our lives, and
(06:08):
this is what our souls need.
Having access to God isdefinitely a privilege.
To end, I would like to leaveyou with this verse in 2
Corinthians 7.
Therefore, having thesepromises beloved, let us cleanse
(06:36):
ourselves from all filthinessof the flesh and spirit,
perfecting holiness in the fearof God.
What was difficult for men todo, jesus did.
Therefore, since we have Jesusas a surety of a better covenant
full of great promises, let usfreely accept and receive what
he did and is doing for us.
I hope this has been a blessingto your lives.
(06:57):
This is your sister in Christ, lauren.
Speaker 1 (07:02):
Until next time, amen
