Hello everyone, it's Jamie here.I hope you're doing well.
I know it's been a while since we put out any new episodes and
I've had a few messages from people asking what's going on,
where's the podcast that have you stopped making the podcast?
When are new episodes coming out?
Which is really nice. It's lovely that people are
invested in the show and want tolisten to it regularly.
And I'd have missed it not been out as much.

(00:21):
But the answer of course to those questions is we have not
stopped making the show at all. And we'll be back very, very
soon. In fact, been recording lots of
conversations recently and we'llhave new episodes coming out in
a few weeks time, 15th of October, there'll be a new
episode dropping. So keep an eye out for that.
I've been really enjoying some of the conversations I've been
having over the last few weeks and I've got some great

(00:43):
conversations lined up as well. The truth is that life has been
really, really busy lately. I've had a lot of things going
on outside the podcast and as a result, I've just not had as
much time to to put the work in and and get episodes out weekly
for you. But as I say, I've been putting
a lot of work and still behind the scenes and I'm really

(01:03):
excited for the new episodes. And yeah, I really want this
podcast to keep growing. And as we come up to five years
and November, I've got some big things planned and some exciting
things planned. So yeah, watch the space.
Something else I've been thinking a lot about recently,
which I wanted to share in this quick update is, and I think a
lot of you might relate to this. And one of the reasons I started

(01:24):
this podcast was to be honest about what it's like to work in
the creative industries and how hard it can sometimes be to work
a job that is also your passion. And because, yeah, it's a really
hard industry. And something I've really
struggled with this year after the news about River City
shutting down is, is the uncertainty.
And I think having a career in the creative industries, whether

(01:44):
you do what I do working in TV, like it's always uncertain.
It always comes of an element ofuncertainty because you tend to
not get a contract that's longerthan six months or a year or
whatever. So it's always hard to plan
ahead. A lot of people that do this are
freelance, so that's even harder.
And look, I know that, yeah, life in general is uncertain.

(02:05):
You know, things like COVID and everything that's sort of
happened in the world in the last five years, a great example
of that. I know we can't really control
everything and and feel like we are in control, but I do think
working a creative career does just really amplify that
uncertainty. And don't get me wrong, I love
what I do and I get a lot of excitement and joy from from

(02:27):
choosing to work at a career in TV.
But I think at the same time, it's OK technology that
sometimes does come at a cost because it can be very anxiety
injuries and then you do worry about the financial aspect of
it. Like what am I going to do if I
don't have a job in four or fivemonths time?
Like that doesn't seem to be so like many opportunities.
And I think that's part of the the context I may be coming from

(02:50):
in there. So that there'll be so many of
you listening to this that can relate because especially if
you're working somewhere like the TV industry at the moment,
like 50% of the industry aren't working.
There's a massive crisis facing the arts where like the
opportunities that used to existjust aren't there in the same
way anymore. And there's things we can do to
adapt. And got lots of great episodes

(03:10):
about that coming up. We've recorded some as well in
the past, but it's completely normal and completely
understandable to feel anxious and lost at the moment.
It just does really feel like there's a lack of opportunities
out there for people right now. But at the same time, that also
doesn't mean that we should giveup and we shouldn't stop making
work and we should stop being creative.

(03:32):
There is lots of things we can do and we can have agency, so it
isn't all doom and gloom. But I guess I'm trying to say is
that it's completely OK to find this really hard and to have
days where you think, what's thepoint?
What is the point in in trying to do this as a career?
The other thing you try and remember is that lean on your
community. Hopefully you're lucky enough to
have a community around you. If you don't, go and try and

(03:53):
find one because it's so useful to have people around you to
understand what is really like to work in this industry.
And it's just important to have people to talk to, even if they
don't work in this industry. It's better to not be on your
own and and to share your thoughts on what you're going
through. This industry can really the
anxiety inducing at times and I think I've felt that a lot this
year, especially working somewhere that's shutting down.

(04:15):
It's you're around loads of people that are in the same boat
and are feeling stressed and being able to at least be in it
with them does really, really help.
But yeah, that is my little, little update, I guess.
But I think what I'm trying to really say is that it's OK to
not be OK at the moment. It's completely understandable.
And even people that from the outside seem like they're
killing it just now and are really successful, like they

(04:38):
still have a lot of these anxieties as well.
This industry is so up and down, and there's massive highs and
massive lows. And often these careers are not
linear either. They go up and down as well.
So yeah, it's OK to feel uncertain and to feel anxious
about it. Before I sign off as well, also
quickly want to say that we are going to be returning to the HP
Film Festival on Sunday this weekend coming.

(04:59):
And so if you're free, come downSunday morning.
We'll be doing a little live podcast between 10:30 and 11:30.
So if you can make it along to the Wind Centre and Paisley, if
you're Scottish based, we'd loveto see you there.
If not, it'll be going out as anepisode on the feed in a few
weeks time as well. But lovely to catch up with you

(05:20):
all and we'll be back properly on the 15th of October.
Get it in the diary, be sure notto miss.
It's going to be a brilliant episode to kick off the podcast
again. But Yep, great to catch up and
I'll catch you all on the 15th of October.
